Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I have inherited familial high cholesterol. At age 36, I had quintuple bypass surgery. At age 46, 56, 63, and 65, I had stents due to blockages. I've been taking statins for 30 years despite severe muscle pain, currently Crestor, and started Repatha injections every two weeks shortly after it became available. I attribute the shortness of breath I have been experiencing to Repatha, and my symptoms have grown increasingly worse during this period of time, including weakness and trouble breathing. I have allergies and asthma, which I thought was the source of my trouble breathing, however, my breathing problems have significantly worsened since taking Repatha and are a debilitating side effect. Cholesterol has dropped significantly."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "This drug was effective year one. Raised my HDL cholesterol, which was my issue. A week ago, I injected as always, and by nightfall, I had a 5-minute angina attack. Night 2, one-hour attack. Next AM, my body was writhing in pain: hands, shoulder, back. My thumb was the worst. Went to my cardiologist, of course he said, “Repatha wouldn’t do that!” I have been miserable for a week. Mornings are the absolute worst. My biggest concern is how to combat this reaction? CoQ10 was recommended, so I began this yesterday. Please, if anyone can help, reach out to me. I’m feeling crippled."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "Having taken statins since 1993 for high cholesterol, I became allergic and began Repatha injections a year ago. My hair started falling out, so I had blood work to rule out thyroid trouble. Ruled that out. My numbers are down, but my hair loss continues. I have a feeling it is Repatha causing it. I came on here to see if anyone else was having this problem. It being such a new drug, I feel like a guinea pig. I am scared to stop the drug, but my cholesterol will go sky high again. I am at a loss as to where to turn for answers."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "After 8 months of use, started having major muscle pains, neuropathy, and increased anxiety. Stopped after multiple ER visits. Now told it could take 3 to 6 months to get it out of my system. Need other drugs to quell or minimize discomfort."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I started this medication and took maybe 7 shots. First few times mild cold symptoms, which I could tolerate. I also had ear issues. The next few shots came with blurry eyes, nausea, some diarrhea, and weight loss. The next shots started with severe diarrhea, nausea, and more weight loss. I am a kidney transplant patient, and my kidney labs are worse, I will be having a biopsy in 3 days to see why my transplant is rejecting (probably Repatha). I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago and saw my cardiologist today, and he told me to stay off of it and that it will take 3+ months to get out of my system. This stuff is POISON! I am very angry, sad, and feel deceived by Amgen and the rubbish they peddle about this stuff. Heed the warnings."

Repatha (evolocumab) for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I have been on Repatha since January. My average glucose was 116-120 before that. In March, my glucose was 200. In June, it was 400. I am wondering if Repatha causes increased blood glucose levels. I am now on daily insulin and cannot keep it below 150. The swings are over 150. I have an appointment with a cardiologist to switch back to a statin. By the way, my LDL did drop to 3. That is not a misprint. I just hope I can resume normal glucose levels again."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I was on Praluent for a year with no side effects. My cholesterol was great. Insurance wanted me to switch to Repatha. After the 2nd injection, I noticed constant stomach pain, persistent diarrhea, and I have vivid dreams all night, making me wake up exhausted. I called my doctor to switch back to Praluent because I cannot handle the side effects."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I have several in my family with high cholesterol... 503 high, so hereditary. I went on Repatha in Oct. 2018. My numbers steadily went down to 235 with mild side effects; some joint pain every now and then. This all changed with my July 2019 injection. I experienced sudden severe hip pain that went all the way down one leg. I could not walk even to the next room. I have had sciatica before, and this was a lot like that, except that it lasted for a day and a half and went away. I wrote this sudden pain off as maybe it was sciatica until my next injection, and the same thing happened, but less severe. I immediately went off of Repatha. I'm still experiencing more symptoms, like muscle weakness and throbbing pain in my arm and hand joints. My feet ache often now as well. I had tried several statins as well, and those also resulted in several side effects that were not tolerable."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "Please, everyone, I have been reading all your comments. You need to call the FDA and report what is happening. I can’t make it any clearer how important this is. This drug is so bad for patients, especially causing cancer. It’s not a coincidence. It’s a horrible drug."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I was a very active, healthy 61-year-old, athletic male who had to have a heart stent because of family history. No heart attack or anything. My doc put me on Repatha to lower cholesterol. After injections of six months, numerous ER visits, and every health test possible, the side effects have diminished my quality of life. It has been over a year and a half since stopping the injections, and I am still suffering from bouts of feeling very ill. DO NOT TAKE THIS stuff."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I am a physician, and I warn my patients that there is no such thing as a completely safe and side effect-free medication. Even a quarter of an adult aspirin tablet has caused GI bleeding problems. I take Repatha as I cannot tolerate any statin. High cholesterol is a serious problem. People die from strokes and coronary artery disease, lung cancer is a horrible side effect, but people also die from high cholesterol, and always the risks versus the benefits must be considered."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "Numbers are great from this medication. Dropped cholesterol 100 points, LDL to 70. That's great for this 59-year-old female who has always had high cholesterol. However, those numbers are not worth the side effects. Have tremendous burning from neck to abdomen. Muscle pains in legs and severe back pain, especially lower and between my shoulder blades. Have taken 5 injections and discussed the side effects with Dr., and he reduced the injections to once a month. Last had the injection on April 1st. As we speak, April 30th, am fighting extreme side effects. With the burning in my chest, I'm not sure if I'm having a heart attack or not. Have suffered 3 attacks like this that last all night since my last injection. THERE IS NO WAY I'M TAKING ANOTHER INJECTION. I am just praying that these symptoms stop and do not continue long term like others have stated on this site. Stay away from this drug! Please! There may be no recovery from it."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "After one shot, it scalded my skin, made an open sore, and I started experiencing diarrhea. My lower right back started hurting. Day 17, I'm waiting on blood work before I take a second shot, and my neck at the base hurts. Weird pains I'm not used to that hurt and affect my quality of life. Can't take statins. Don't think I'll ever take another shot of Repatha. If it messes with your liver, it can kill you. I will walk at least 60 minutes a day, every day, and continue to watch my fat, trans fat, and cholesterol intake. My last shot was 27 days ago. Between the initial post and now, I'm still nauseated. I have loose bowels every time I eat, and I have to go. Can't go anywhere, and it's physically irritating. My knees and back still hurt, and I feel pain behind my eyes, have trouble swallowing, and experience body spasms. Still so tired with no energy and have trouble."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I’m a 64-year-old female with hypercholesterolemia. Nothing worked to lower my cholesterol, so my doctor highly recommended Repatha. Right away, I noticed blisters in my mouth, nose, butt, etc. I was rushed to the emergency room at 3 a.m. because I couldn’t breathe from blisters on my throat and nose. Repatha causes shingles. It has been 8 months, and the left side of my face is still tingling because the left side of your face has nerves, and Repatha affected all the nerves. I can’t chew on the left side of my mouth, and my smile is drooping. This drug is horrible, and it’s just another money-making way for doctors to lie to us. I stopped going to doctors now. I go to holistic doctors. They are definitely more experienced in good health and care more about their patients. I’m thinking of suing Repatha because I’m still suffering."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "Both my wife and I had high cholesterol and were unable to take statins due to the painful side effects. She tried Repatha first and had virtually no side effects. I started it a few months after her and have also had no side effects. Her total cholesterol came down 72 points and mine down 50 points. Been on it for about 5 months. People have told me my face looks younger since I now have less bags under my eyes."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "Works great, but my quality of life wasn't there. The drug turned my muscles into marshmallows to the point I couldn't walk. So what's the point? I ended up pulling muscles when I bent over. $300 later at a chiropractor put me back together again. Statins for me are bad news! I can't take them, PERIOD, so quit pushing the meds at $500.00 a shot."

Repatha (evolocumab) for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "Please beware of this medication. I started Repatha, then I had pain in all joints, atrial fib. I was at a point where I felt I was going to die. I had used about four injections. I cannot remember anytime in my life so bad. It took about four months to return to normal. Stupidly, I then tried a 50% reduction of dose with the same family of drug. After one injection, I began to have difficulty swallowing, and then the flu and arthralgia started. I began to suffer atrial fib on and off again. I had been stable for years before Repatha. I didn't take a second injection, I am now about four months down the line and just about recovering back to normal. In my case, simply this medication had horrific side effects. Repatha must be aware of these reactions in some patients. Only a matter of time before something terrible happens to someone, although they will have all the nomenclature to head that off at the pass. Be careful and safe. Good luck, James."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I was prescribed Repatha after having side effects from statins. I was totally off statins when I started. For the first injection, I had some mild cold/flu symptoms for just a couple of days, very mild. I had my second injection on a Thursday, and by Tuesday the next week, I had cold and flu-like symptoms, neck and back pain, and was in bed for three weeks. At first, I didn't even connect it to being side effects of Repatha, but then I remembered when they briefed me, the PA saying cold and flu-like symptoms. So, I started doing some research, and I had every side effect listed with the exception of high blood pressure. It is now almost 3 months since my last injection. My migraine, which in the past had basically gone, has recurred. I also have sinus pressure, neck ache, and lower back ache, aching hands feeling arthritic, urgency to urinate, and extreme fatigue. My internist said it could take about six months to get out of my body. I pray she's right. This is life-altering in a negative way for me. Incredibly frustrated."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "So, just like Dee, I have seen a pretty big jump in my blood sugar levels. History, on top of several other things, I was never diabetic. Suddenly, I was contacted regarding a blood test that said my sugar was very high. Metformin made me sick as a dog. Next thing I knew, I was waking up 8 days after being in a diabetic coma. I took insulin for 6 or 7 months. Levels returned to normal. So, just controlled now by diet. My cardiologist put me on Repatha. I noticed one of the side effects was increased glucose. Sure enough, within a couple of weeks, my levels began to climb from 90-110 to now 160-170. The answer? Go back on insulin. Not sure I like adding two drugs instead of none. Oh, during the year or so my diet was controlled, I ate almost identically every day, with dinner being the exception. I did this so I could watch for increases. All I've done is quit more and more of what I eat, and it just keeps rising. Only change? Repatha."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "It has been a year and a half since I stopped the Repatha injections after taking them for 6 months. I was extremely active and athletic till Repatha. This drug has made me weak, sick, inflamed, and unable to stay active as before. Even after a year and a half, I continue to suffer from side effects. This medicine is like a poison."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I had a heart stent in my LAD in February 2019. I have had high cholesterol since I was in my twenties. I have been on statins since age 27. My cardiologist wanted my LDL to be less than 70 (it was 87), so he started me on Repatha. I have had two doses, 2 weeks apart, and I'm having shortness of breath, weakness, high blood pressure, heart pounding, and muscle aches. I am not going to take this medication any longer."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "One month after two two-week injections of Repatha, blood test shows great control of LDL and general cholesterol, but a significant rise in A1C, neutropenia, upper respiratory infection, especially in both nostrils responsive to Bacitracin, general muscle fatigue, terrible low mood, and social withdrawal, significant cognitive/psychosocial impairment. Physicians never tell patients what to expect, they just write the prescription and wish you luck."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I have taken 4 statins in the past five years, all leaving me with leg pain, which gets worse with walking. Stopped each pill within weeks, as I would rather have quality of life. Physician recommended Repatha. No leg pain for two months, however, I experienced constantly being tired. Blamed it on old age (80). After my last injection, I couldn't walk 50 feet without being out of breath. I decided to check side effects, and of course, the #1 is trouble breathing. A little farther down the list is tired and drowsy. I'll live with the cholesterol. I pray the effects go away, I still have them a week later."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I have muscle aches with statins. I tried Repatha and did fine for a month or so. It lowered total cholesterol to 120. Then, one day after an injection in my right leg, I got severe right leg cramps. It took two more injections to tie the leg pain to the injections. I thought it might be gout. An orthopedic doctor said it was a torn tendon in the knee. Pain was at a level of 2-8, and I could hardly walk. It settled in the knees. I'm about 10 days since the last injection, and the pain is less every day. I'm definitely sure it's the drug as I have never had knee problems. I hope there is no permanent damage."

Repatha (evolocumab) for High Cholesterol "I have gained weight on every statin I've been on. My NP said I want you to try Repatha. I've read and have had great reports with people who can't take statins like yourself. So I was happy there was hope for my condition. I went home, looked up weight gain as a side effect. Researched all I could. I started it 8 weeks ago. I had back surgery the week prior. I've been gaining weight. I finally looked up 'I have been gaining weight on Repatha.' I couldn't believe it. It is a side effect. I've also read it only helps 1 out of 66 people from having a heart attack or stroke. What!! I will take my chances. I have also felt very uneasy, not myself, short with my family, gaining weight, body aches, thinning hair, and earaches!!!"
