For Birth Control "Insertion was virtually painless. I've had it for almost 5 months, and I hardly notice it. No weight gain or loss (I was really hoping to gain weight from it since I'm very skinny). I'd assume the people complaining of weight gain probably produce a lot of estrogen in general - but I'm not a doctor, so don't take my word for it. No mood swings, no headaches. I still get my period somewhat regularly, however, it's longer by a week or two but lighter. I hardly notice it, my period symptoms have also lightened up a bit (less pimples, less cramps, less attitude). I would recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I got Nexplanon in November of 2020. I had previously been on a few pills, all of which have made me SUPER depressed and anxious (along with suicidal thoughts). The first year with Nexplanon was no issue. I got my period only a few times, and I felt okay. Since then, it has made me gain 40+ pounds in such a short amount of time. I get extremely anxious and emotional/depressed when my period is coming, and it's affecting my everyday life. My intrusive thoughts and anxiety are SO bad now. Also, my periods have become SO heavy after the first year on it. Bleeding through tampons at work and waking up in pools of blood. Nexplanon has done a great job at preventing pregnancy, but the physical and emotional side effects are absolutely terrible. I need to find a new BC to go on or to just be done with it all."

For Birth Control "Got the Nexplanon 2 days after I had my daughter. Everything was cool. I bled my whole 6 weeks, then my period completely stopped until the first week of Feb. I spotted for a few days (3). Started gaining weight after, and no matter how much I work out, I can't lose the weight! Lately, I've started getting headaches for 4-5 days straight. No matter what I take, I continue to have a headache and increased appetite. Really considering getting it taken out. The no period or pregnancy is the only great thing!"

For Birth Control "I love Nexplanon. I have had it since April 2012, and it is amazing! I rarely get my period, but if I do, it is very light, not even enough bleeding for tampons. I know some people's main concern is being able to feel it. If I'm not trying to, I don't even notice it there! Also, I have not gained any weight, and my acne is no worse than it was before. Definitely an option for those of us who have trouble taking a pill every day or making an appointment every three months!"

For Birth Control "I had a horrible time on the Nexplanon implant, and I don’t want anybody to go through the experience I did. I was 18 years old when I was sold on the idea of the Nexplanon implant by my OBGYN. I wish I knew then what I know now so I could avoid the whole mistake. I didn’t know hormones in BC affect your chemical balance in your brain most of the time. I went through severe depression, really dark thoughts, erratic thoughts, and huge weight gain. The implant poked my skin and left me with a scar (I got after removing it) that reminds me of the horrible emotional trauma I went through. I'm still recovering from the mental state I was in while on it. Instead, I looked into Kyleena. It lasts 5 years and protects great against pregnancy. It doesn’t affect my mood, no weight gain, and I can’t feel it. I know BC works differently, but save the risk and avoid Nexplanon. I learned the hard way that it sucks - take my advice!"

For Birth Control "I'm currently 21, and I've had Nexplanon for just over 2 years now (since June 15, 2015) and have had absolutely no problems with it. Possibly the best decision I've ever made. Obviously, all BC affects everyone differently, but for me, I've experienced no mood swings, I haven't had a proper period or cramping in 2 years now (I've had maybe 4 or 5 occurrences of extremely light spotting in 2 years - lasting no more than a day each - and even that was mainly just slightly pink discharge). I haven't noticed any weight gain from it (but I was gaining weight regardless because I started university and lived off take-outs). I'll be getting it replaced a few months before it's due just to be sure. I love it, though."

For Birth Control "DO NOT USE! The cost alone is NOT WORTH IT! It cost me my body, my mental health, nearly cost me my husband! This implant will make you gain excessive weight and NOTHING you do will ever take it off, even after removal! Your metabolism will be wrecked for life! I got the implant 6 weeks PP, and I was just 10 lbs away from my pre-baby weight. In TWO MONTHS, I gained weight PAST MY PREGNANCY WEIGHT! I weigh more now than I did NINE MONTHS PREGNANT! I have a strict diet, and I exercise at the gym 3 times a week and even more at home (after healing from birth), and NO WEIGHT HAS COME OFF! Even after removal! In addition to making you hate yourself, it gives you acne, it makes you so angry all the time, it will make your period last 8 weeks or up to A YEAR!! Mine lasted 2 whole months! I can see how this works as a birth control - it makes you so mean and ugly and fat that nobody wants to sleep with you! This was my biggest mistake in life, I regret it with every fiber of my being. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!"

For Birth Control "Had Nexplanon for 6 weeks in 2015. Worst decision of my life. 1st week, arm sore at insertion, became painful, and then couldn't use that arm. Shooting pain, couldn't sleep on left side, and strength gone. Awful mood swings, hair thinned, plus 15 lbs in 2 weeks, bled horribly, large clots, always tired, heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, and no energy. All new symptoms. Became depersonalized and felt outside of my body looking in. One minute was intense emotions: sadness or rage, then emptiness. Horrible thoughts or blankness... don't wish that on anyone. Went to the ER twice to get checked for extreme bleeding, barely left the house. The tech looked for a sac, couldn't explain my 8-9 weeks pregnant thickened uterine lining. Said it was very strange. My doctor wanted me to keep it longer, but I was falling asleep, even sitting up, worried my 3-year-old and 7-month-old would get hurt, seriously concerned for their safety. Also got some acne. Removal day, I felt better, and in 1 week almost back to normal."

For Birth Control "I have loved Nexplanon so much. I despise daily pills, which made me gain 50+ pounds (I’m 4’11, so that’s a huge deal) and was terrified of getting an IUD after a friend had hers inserted wrong and it poked a hole through her uterus. I use it for both contraception as well as extremely heavy period management, crippling pain from cramps that last 75% of every month, and to lessen the intense pain and regularity of ovarian cysts. The simplicity of it is amazing, no daily upkeep, fast working, and I’ve actually been able to lose some of the weight previously gained. I’ve had probably three very mild and very short periods since getting the implant. The implant site itself healed extremely fast and it can be felt if pressed but not visible. The worst part of getting the implant was the numbing shot. I have had no adverse side effects whatsoever."

For Birth Control "I have had the Nexplanon for about 19 months. I have to admit, I 'loved' it!! No period all this time and does its job. The bad... the last 7-8 months have been horrible!! Huge mood swings, depression, anxiety, and for the past 6 months, I have gained 35 lbs!!! I cry every single day about stuff I would normally never cry about. At times, it could be just a tear up or could go full blast, enter panic attack type crying spell. I am looking into getting it removed now."

For Birth Control "I got my Nexplanon in October 2013. My first period was normal, 7 days very light. My second period was about 3 days real light. And my third was a week light as well, then, 2 weeks after, I spotted for a week. Symptoms I have noticed are acne, I've never had such oily hair and skin before, and also some weight gain. I love Nexplanon because I always forgot my pill. I would recommend every girl to get it."

For Birth Control "Omg, let me tell y'all I am a 35-year-old woman, and I have tried plenty of BC, and this was the worst mentally and emotionally. Plus, I gained like 30 pounds. I've had Nexplanon for a year, it caused so much anxiety and depression that I was put on my medicine. I went TODAY and had it removed, and I'm so glad about it. Before getting it, I was happy just to be alive, didn't mind going to work, and I worked out about 4 times a week. All of these things slowly left, and I took me a while to figure it out, but it was this damn Nexplanon. It was NOT worth the mental garbage I went through behind that thing."

For Birth Control "Horrible. I have gained ten pounds so far, literally half of my hair has fallen out, I've been bleeding since I got it put in 6 months ago, it pinches my arm fat when I rest my arm downward, and it has made me insane, like I feel pregnant and hormonal and crying and angry, irrational, just crazy."

For Birth Control "I just wanted to add my experience with Nexplanon because there are a lot of negative reviews up here that really worried me when I read them right after I got it inserted. I'm 19, and I got my implant in January 2017, got my period a week or so later for about 4 days, and haven't had it since. At first, this concerned me a little, but it's really just a signal that the hormones are working. I experienced no weight gain and no acne troubles either. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I feel as though I can attribute my lack of side effects from getting the implant directly off of 2+ years of birth control pills. I did experience minor changes in mood a few weeks after insertion, but I have been feeling completely normal since then."

For Birth Control "I had my first implant in November of 2012 and haven't had a period since, and I'm now on my second implant. I had a light, irregular period before, but this has completely eradicated them, and I couldn't be happier. I've had monogamous sexual partners ejaculate inside, and I've never had anything close to a pregnancy scare. This birth control is honestly the best thing that's ever happened to me. Honestly, the numbing shot is worse than the actual incision for inserting/removing and just left a small bruise. I can't tell if it's affected my mood because I am on psych meds for other reasons and was before I started Nexplanon. No weight gain or acne either. This thing is a miracle for me."

For Birth Control "I got my first Nexplanon in 2013, had it for three years, and got my new one about 2 weeks ago. I love it. I have two-week periods every other month (so the same amount as a normal cycle within a year's time). Before it, I had heavier periods. Now they are a lot lighter, only downside is that I gained a few pounds (I became a lot less active, which added to the gained weight). When it was time to change it at the end of three years, my cycle stayed on for about 3 weeks (not bleeding the whole time. It was the normal two weeks as stated before and then a week of discharge that I usually get after my cycles). I've read a lot of bad reviews on this, but I absolutely love it. I literally don't have to think about birth control for three years."

For Birth Control "I finally got this after months of debating and reading reviews. I noticed headaches right away. 7 months later, my headaches are extreme, as are my mood swings, no real sex drive, I've gained at least 10 lbs. I've always been a very happy person and good-natured person. Now, on this, I've never been so angry and sad. One awesome thing was my period stopped almost immediately, luckily, I didn't get the constant bleeding like so many others. I've been so exhausted and hungry all the time. Lightheaded, dizzy, and headaches are so bad I was ready to take it out myself. I finally got it out today, and I could never recommend. Hopefully, I will feel better soon."

For Birth Control "Worst mistake of my life getting the Nexplanon implant. I got my implant inserted around August 2020. Around the end of August, I started to have really bad panic attacks, so severe that every time I closed my eyes, I felt like my life was going to end. I didn’t have any weight gain, but from my mental health standpoint, it was bad. Use at your own risk."

For Birth Control "Not all bodies are alike, but if you have suffered from anxiety/depression in the past, I don't recommend Nexplanon. I started out with it in September 2017 and loved it at first. As time went on, it seems my anxiety and depression increased, and I saw a therapist. Then there was the weight gain. I started to feel bloated and pregnant ALL the time. Don't let people tell you birth control and weight gain don't correlate. My scale increased from 150 lbs to 165, then 170, and then 177 lbs (I am 5'9') despite all the dieting and exercise. I admit I did like that my butt got Kardashian huge, but my stomach and face were so bloated I was always uncomfortable and hated how I looked. This method of birth control does work effectively, I just don't think it was right for me. I got mine out yesterday, and I already feel more like myself than I have in 2 and a half years, and I am de-bloating already. Just listen to your body, ladies!! And we aren't all crazy, sometimes it's the hormones."

For Birth Control "The Nexplanon is plain awful. I'm on my third year, a month from getting it taken out (I've been begging my doc to take it out for a year now and just got OK'd). The first year of it, my period was nuts, either no period or a month-long period, slight weight gain but nothing terrible. Second year, mood swings like crazy, weight gain, and acne. Third year has been the worst. I have no acne, constant mood swings, severe depression despite my life going well, can't stop gaining weight (130 lb before, 185 lb now), bloating, cramps are so bad I've had to miss work. I have acne on my back and face and weird hair growth. I'm growing inch-long black facial hairs on my chin, and I'm a blonde who used to have like no body hair. This birth control has made me suicidal at times."

For Birth Control "My experience has been horrible. I got Nexplanon 6 weeks after giving birth. I had gotten pregnant while I was on the pill, so I wanted to try something different. I've been bleeding for three and a half months straight. Severe acne and mood swings. I've been feeling really depressed for no reason. I've gained 15 pounds I can't seem to lose. And this last month, I have been having horrible flu-like symptoms. It feels like it's taking over my life. I'm getting it out this month."

For Birth Control "UPDATE from anonymous March 20th post: It's been 1 week since my removal of Nexplanon, and I feel like the happiest person on earth! I even had more side effects right before removal: my weight gain of 10 lbs became 15 lbs! It also made my digestive system extremely bad! It took 3-4 days for my food to digest! It was causing me to be bloated every single day for 2 weeks straight just before removal. It was also weird that it took away my depression for a whole year of having this, but just before removal, my depression came back twice as hard. I also had NO SEX DRIVE for a whole year! I didn’t want my bf touching me ever! It was driving both of us crazy! Now everything is back to normal! I lost about 5 lbs so far, and I feel like I’m myself again. Now I can live a happy life! I’m never trying this again!"

For Birth Control "I've had no mood swings, no weight gain, no acne. It has certainly prevented pregnancy. However, I have had a full period lasting more than 7 days every other week for the past 6 months. I spend almost half my month bleeding. I don't get cramps, but my periods are heavier than before. It's getting to the point where I'm thinking about getting it taken out."

For Birth Control "I hate this birth control!!! I had my Nexplanon put in August 2013 and just had it removed July 2015. Honestly, I don't see how I kept it that long. I had crazy mood swings, always emotional and on the verge of crying about any and everything. But that's not even the worst part, prior to getting this birth control, I had started my weight loss journey to better myself and had happily lost 70 lbs! Then I got this birth control and my weight loss went straight to hell, basically. Almost 2 years on this, I have gained all my weight back plus some. The only good thing about this is I didn't get pregnant, but from all the weight gain, I'm super depressed now. Hopefully, now that it's out, I can lose the weight again."

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for a month now, and I love it. I didn't get a full-blown period, just spotting for a week. I have not gotten any of the side effects I see in these reviews. But not only that, Nexplanon does not have a side effect of gaining weight, it's explained to you when you get it that it doesn't have the hormone that birth control pills have that causes weight gain. So yes, I would recommend this type of birth control."
