For Birth Control "I've been on Nexplanon for almost three months now (it was inserted Valentine's Day weekend) and I love it. I have experienced some side effects, however. I have noticed an increase in acne, but thankfully I found a new face wash that seems to keep it at bay. My hair gets slightly oilier (but I only wash it every 2-3 days anyway). I have also had some spotting. Nothing too extreme, I can get away with a single pantiliner for the day. The spotting has been on and off for the past months. It will come for a few weeks and then leave for a few weeks. No weight gain, no funny cravings, no mood swings. FYI I'm 23 years old, 120 lbs, and I exercise 5-6 days a week. Best of luck!"

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon since the beginning of February 2016, and since then I've had uncontrollable mood swings, suicidal thoughts, breakouts that I usually never get, terrible back and hip pain. I always bleed during sex (it is never rough or something that would cause bleeding). I never stop bleeding to some degree, I get more frequent headaches. It's like I could go on and on. I was told by this point these symptoms should just be toning down and that by the 6-month mark almost all of this would be done, and it just seems to progressively get worse. I hate Nexplanon with a passion currently."

For Birth Control "I got this horrible torture device (Nexplanon) put in my arm about a year ago, and within a few days of having it, I started getting severely depressed, and it wasn’t like a normal depression/sadness. I started to feel like I had no emotions at all, like I was numb to the world. Had absolutely no sex drive at all. And bled (and am still bleeding) at all times. I have a constant UTI (probably from all the tampons), and I have gained about 65 pounds. My skin is covered in acne. I know everyone is different, but ladies, if you are considering this form of birth control, please think again! It not only affects you but also the people around you! My boyfriend thinks I am a completely different person ever since I got this! As far as contraception, it works great, but I’m done. I shouldn’t have gotten this removed a long time ago!"

For Birth Control "I am 20 years old and have had the Nexplanon in my arm for 2 years. The insertion itself wasn't bad, just a little sting. I didn't have any bruising, and the rod is still able to be felt in my arm. I first experienced a little acne and a little weight gain, but nothing major. Now having the rod in my arm for 2 years, I have experienced major anxiety, depression, and mood swings. As most other young adults, working part-time and going to school part-time can cause a lot of stress on a person. At first, I thought it was normal and every other person was experiencing the same stress as me. It kept getting worse. My boyfriend of 3 years began to notice my changes. I have become completely depressed. I am now looking into getting my rod removed ASAP."

For Birth Control "The only good thing about Nexplanon is the convenience. This birth control gave me horrible acne on my jaw, my back, and my chest. I have never struggled with back acne, but after being on this birth control, I now have scars on my back from the acne being so bad. My jaw acne is horrible. The only relief I will find is taking the implant out, which is happening very soon. I have struggled with cramps constantly and finally got a HORRIBLE period that lasted for two weeks after the first year. I have horrible mood swings and anxiety on this. I have gained 18 pounds, and I've never had a problem with weight. I don't recommend this at all. I am so happy to be going back to pills."

For Birth Control "I got Nexplanon about 6 weeks after I had my son in May 2013, and I've had a mostly positive experience with it. For the first couple of months, I had no period. The next few months, a very light period, which is great because before getting pregnant, my period was pretty heavy. Then last month, my period was about a week long and VERY heavy. I haven't had any other side effects at all. No moodiness, a little bit of weight gain, but I think that's because I stopped breastfeeding, no headaches, and no acne. I love not having to worry about birth control. This thing is great."

For Birth Control "I have been on Nexplanon since Sept 26, 2013. The first week was really hard. I bled horribly. I called my doctor with my issue. For one month, she prescribed my prior birth control pills to control the bleeding. It stopped after the second day on oral birth control. I finished the pack. My cycle came on time in October. And until 12/26/13, I had not had a cycle. At this point it is VERY LIGHT. I encourage everyone to try it for themselves. We all have different bodies, and the side effects will not be the same. I also experienced a minor acne breakout. Best thing...NO BABIES, weight gain, or hair loss."

For Birth Control "Got the Nexplanon in March of 2015 after I had my son (my kids are 369 days apart, so I wanted something good), but this has been awful! I have worn a pad for the past year straight. It goes from gross discharge to heavy, heavy bleeding and blood clots. I have awful headaches, acne, weight gain, mood swings that are insane. I'm rarely happy, always in a bad mood-so angry. No sex drive-like don't touch or kiss me. My relationship is horrible, I feel so bad for my fiancé. But even worse for my kids, I flip over ridiculous stuff and yell when I shouldn't. For some reason, I thought to read the reviews, and all these bad experiences are exactly what's been happening. Don't do it. I can't wait to get this thing cut out!!!"

For Birth Control "I've had Nexplanon for 7 months now, and I've only had one 'period' that lasted for two weeks, which is great! But I've gained a lot of weight and have a problem with acne, which I've never had more than one pimple at a time. And my hair is extremely greasy, no matter what I try to do about it. I'm thinking about getting it removed."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon inserted 6 months ago. My pros are: I haven't had my period ever since it was inserted, my libido has considerably increased, no pains, and no kids. Cons: A LOT of weight gain. In the beginning, I had a lot of mood swings. I noticed that if I felt just a little sad or if I had any small negative thought, it would aggravate me, and I would cry my heart out, so I tried to stay positive, but I only became extremely anxious to a point where I couldn’t go to sleep (4 a.m. rolling in bed). Now I’m on therapy, which is helping me a lot, and I feel like I have more control of my emotions (I don’t know if it’s because of therapy or because I just got to the 6-month mark - or both). The only other problem that really bothers me is acne. I’ve never had it before in my life, but my face is popping ever since Nexplanon was inserted. Ohhh, and I’m always bloated and trying to manage anger. If you have depression and/or anxiety, BEWARE!"

For Birth Control "11:05 pm. I’m scrolling through this thread in tears. Depressed. Confused. I’m 6 months with this Nexplanon implant, and it was the worst mistake of my life next to dropping out of college. I had been bleeding every 3 weeks, and I would have a break of about 2 days. My flows would be as heavy as my heart would feel. This was going on for 5 months. I can’t stop eating. I’m always sad. I got acne on my cheeks and my neck. I’ve gained weight (20 pounds). I resent men, my gynecologist, and myself for getting this. My doctor has advised me to stick it all out, and that is what I am doing. But during the after hours, I find myself browsing YouTube, trying to find an instructive video on how to take this lord-forsaken device out of my arm because I’ve had enough. Truthfully, everyone is different. My friend's experience was the complete opposite. But this was not for me."

For Birth Control "So far, I have been on this birth control about 2 months. Noticing strong mood swings to the point I'm verbally abusing my kids by using swear words constantly. I have no patience at all. Broke down crying tonight, trying to figure out what was wrong with me and why I was so on edge and impatient with my babies. Then I remembered the implant, and maybe it's causing me to have extreme mood swings. Also, slight cramping that never really goes away. I've been eating like a pig, and my teenage acne days are upon me again. This is my first time ever using birth control. Really sucks, I was thinking birth control would be a walk in the park, but so far it's causing me to become a mad woman."

For Birth Control "Been on Nexplanon for nearly 2 years. It was fine at first, but for the last month or so, I have felt extremely depressed and anxious. I am bleeding every day, although lightly. My face is breaking out. I can't put it down to anything else, as I don't have any complaints in life, but this black cloud is hanging over me, it's so heavy, and I can't shake it. I will be making an appointment to remove it ASAP, especially after reading some of these reviews. I just hope I'm right in doing this. Sometimes it sucks to be a woman."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon for 3 years and am now into my 2nd year of Nexplanon. I've had major weight gain, about 30 pounds, no acne. For the first year, no period, and then they became irregular. Same with my second one."

For Birth Control "I just got my Nexplanon taken out after the full 3 years, and the same day I got another one put in. I LOVE this birth control! I totally understand that everyone reacts differently to things, but I truly believe it is worth sticking it out for the first 6 months and THEN decide if you want it taken out. Nexplanon helped me clear up my acne and controlled my weight, and I had barely any periods throughout the 3 years I was on it. It is amazing to not have to stress out about a pill every day and not have to go pick up a prescription every month. The ONLY downside is getting it taken out takes a little while, and if you're squeamish, it can be a little uncomfortable, but the insertion is so quick and easy you barely even notice it happening! Love it."

For Birth Control "I'm 32 and have had 2 children. I had this implant inserted at the end of March, and I have gained 20 lbs despite increasing my exercise and decreasing my caloric intake. It doesn't help that all the weight is in my belly - it looks like I'm 4-5 months pregnant on any given day. My OB insists that the Nexplanon shouldn't be the cause of my weight gain, but I've changed nothing else during this time frame. I've also been breaking out a lot more often than I used to. I realize that it's a very fail-proof birth control, but I can't take this weight gain any longer. I can't wait to get it removed!!"

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Nexplanon for over a year now, and I do like it. I used to have really irregular periods and insane cramps, but when I got the implant, periods were nonexistent! I will bleed maybe once every six months, and that’s it. It helped clear my acne, my depression has improved greatly, and I have not gained any weight. This, however, doesn’t make it okay for every circumstance. I feel like my body takes really well to it, but a lot of these posts are really sad to read. I would definitely recommend not only having an appointment but also researching a lot and reading stories of women who have similar post-birth control symptoms and how it affected them. Good luck on your journey, girls!"

For Birth Control "I am 23, for age reference. My mother talked me into getting this back in February (2014). Since then, I have had horrendous breakouts on my cheeks, chest, and my back; I haven't had problems with acne ever. When I don't wear makeup, my face is paler than usual. My energy is gone, I've become anemic, and like most others, sex sounds 'meh.' I have had maybe ten days of NON-bleeding. I swear I keep Kotex in business. As far as the birth control aspect, it works great; I don't want to get it on at all! I'm giving it until August (the 6th month mark) to see if my body accepts it. However, at this point, I'm over it."

For Birth Control "I had Nexplanon put in October 2012. I had bleeding and spotting nonstop for an entire year. I've gained 15 lbs, and there has been no change in my diet. My skin is very oily. My hair gets very greasy. I sweat a lot now. I used to never sweat. I break out all over my face, chest, and back. I'm 25 years old, and I've never had acne. I've been super moody, to the extent that my antidepressants needed to be increased. Anxiety has gone up. It wasn't until early November 2013 that my period finally stopped. It's been 3.5 months with no bleeding. I've had almost every bad side effect, but I can't get pregnant on it."

"I decided to use this birth control after constantly changing oral contraceptives because they were just awful, mood swings and gained 30 pounds in 2 months. This has been the best birth control I’ve been on. No weight gain. No periods. No mood swings. I get acne around the time I should have a period each month. Also, no pregnancy, so that’s good. I was skeptical to use this birth control after reading reviews. But it’s been the best thing for me. I recommend this to anyone of my girl friends."

For Birth Control "I truthfully do not have anything positive to say about this form of birth control. Prior to this birth control, I was one of the lucky ones; I used a generic BC, and my periods were 3 days, very light, no cramps, acne, or mood swings. I have been on Nexplanon for 11 months. I have been on my period almost ever since. My acne is painful and atrocious. I have way worse and almost unexplained mood swings. As I said, I have nothing positive to say about this BC."

For Birth Control "I have had my Nexplanon implant for almost three years, and I am close to finally getting it removed. I would recommend this birth control to anyone wanting to ease their heavy periods and extremely painful cramps, but if you're ever at all concerned with having bad acne, do not get the implant. I am truly grateful I have not had a period or even spotting in two years, but the acne has only gotten worse. I have spent hundreds of dollars on acne treatments. These treatments have been very intense, but rarely work. Also, I randomly have pain in my arm, headaches, unprovoked periods of depression, and anxiety. My dermatologist has recommended a few products that don't faze my acne. I hope this review was helpful."

For Birth Control "I have never had bad experiences with my period prior to Nexplanon. I was very sexually active with my boyfriend, who hated condoms (he was later dumped). Anyways, I decided to take Nexplanon because of him. My sex drive was still there, which was great. No complaints about my performance in the bedroom. I was told that for 3 to 6 months, wear pantyliners, and I experienced spotting, which was fine. So I'm having sex unprotected, no baby scares, a little spotting, but man, did I get acne. I have never had acne in my life, especially around my jawline and cheeks, so I was surprised that it happened. Also, quite a bit of weight gain. Now I'm already a bigger girl, but depriving myself of goodies and slaving 5 times a week in the gym, I should see results, but in fact, weight gain. I would recommend Nexplanon as an option and would tell you to give it time. If you don't like it after 8 months, then get it removed and tell your man to wear a condom and stop complaining."

For Birth Control "I had my child April 27th, 2016. I had my Nexplanon placed at my 6-week checkup. So I've had my Nexplanon in for over a year. From the time it was placed to this day, I have been bleeding every day! I have horrible acne, migraines, mood swings, weight gain, and NO sex drive. This thing is ruining my marriage! I thought the Nexplanon was going to be amazing, not having to remember a pill every day, but in 2 days, I'm having it removed!"
