"I have been on Nexplanon since January 2013. When it was put in my arm, it didn't really hurt, kind of just pressure. I bruised for about a week, but then it went away. Honestly, 99 percent of the time I don't even remember that I have it, it doesn't hurt in my arm or anything. I have no side effects, except that my acne got a little worse, but that could just be because I'm 20 and still young. It had worked for me 100% of the time. I have not gotten pregnant, and I have not had a period since it was inserted."

"I have had the Nexplanon implant for almost 8 months now, and it has been amazing. I have not had a period since the implantation, but this has been my only side effect. I love the convenience of not having to worry about taking a pill every day and would definitely recommend this method of birth control. I know it can affect everyone differently, but I saw tons of scary reviews on here before I got mine done and wanted to leave a positive review about how great it has been for me."

"I had Nexplanon fitted in February, so have had it for about three months now. At first, I had little desire for sex and had irregular bleeding. Since they have both cleared up, I've actually lost weight and my breasts have grown. I sometimes get a little spotting but never a full-blown period, and overall, I think it's a brilliant method of contraception. It's quite surprising to see so many bad reviews! Hopefully, I won't develop any more side effects."

"I've had Nexplanon going on 2 years and have had no issues. I have not had a period since it was put in. The only side effect I have had is my headaches have become stronger than when I didn't have it in. I would recommend this to everyone and plan on having another put in after the 3 years are up."

"First off, THIS BIRTH CONTROL AFFECTS EVERYONE DIFFERENTLY! I originally went to this site after I booked my appointment for insertion just to get a feel for what I was in for. I only saw horribly negative things. My own experience has been fine. Everything that you expect to happen on birth control does. My emotions got the best of me, but they leveled out. I had spurts of acne, but having the correct soap for your face makes all the difference. My period has been off, lots of spotting, but it's really nothing that isn't manageable. My sex drive is better than ever. And I haven't gained any weight. The insertion process is quick and painless. I'm also not pregnant! Seriously, try it for yourself, every body is different."

"I got on Nexplanon 5 months after getting in a relationship. I have been on it for about a year now. Thinking back, I remember myself being really happy before it. As soon as I got on this birth control, I felt like everything went downhill. I am really depressed. I cry randomly, I get sad at least every day. I have a lot of good things going on for myself. I just got hired for a job I've been wanting for a while. I was really happy about it for about an hour, then the rest of the day my mood changed. I was crying and didn't know why. I have been thinking the worst. Also, I now feel like I don't even want to be with my boyfriend even though he treats me good. I just don't want to be close to anyone. I have pushed everyone away. I've isolated myself. I get bad mood swings. I am mostly irritated and sad every day. It has been horrible for me. It might work for some, but for me, it hasn't, so I'm going to schedule an appointment to get it removed."

"I'm on my third one, and I've got to tell you I like it. My doctor prescribed a med to stop heavy periods or very long periods. I take a pill, and they stop. It has not affected my sex drive, and everything else is going well."

"I have had Nexplanon since January 9th, and so it's been a little over 2 months since I've gotten it inserted. I was nervous about getting it inserted, but the whole process is a breeze, so if you are considering it, don't worry about that! For 2 months, I bled almost every day, but it wasn't bad. As time went on, it was less and less. I've read other reviews where they said they bleed every day and was horrified about that happening to me, but it was hardly noticeable. Sex-wise, I haven't gotten pregnant, and this is the only form of protection my boyfriend and I use. Also, I didn't get any acne, but for the first month, I would get nauseous easily after doing cardio or even after having 1 alcoholic beverage. But that has gotten a lot better."

"I’ve had the implant for over 7 months now. The first 2 months after insertion, I only experienced light spotting, although I had severe emotional mood swings that caused me to have panic attacks frequently. Since then, I’ve had prolonged heavy bleeding with very little to no breaks between bleeding every month. I had one week, 2 months ago, when the bleeding stopped, and I thought it was finally settling down, only to start bleeding again. I’ve recently been experiencing cramps and severe bloating (I’m quite slim, haven’t gained any weight, yet I look 6 months pregnant). I’ve been getting strange aches and pains all over my body and joints at nighttime - most of the time, it’s sharp elbow pain. The mood swings have been from one extreme to another, which has had an impact on my relationships with friends and family. The entire experience has been very physically and emotionally exhausting."

"LISTEN!!! & Listen CAREFULLY!! RUN! Run FAR AWAY! YES! This birth control works differently on everyone. But don’t put your life in jeopardy by chancing it!! This birth control has made my life purely awful! I got it implanted in 2016! It was fine until the 6 months! Regular monthly 4-5 day periods, minimal acne, no weight gain, NOTHING!! Then all of a sudden, I changed into a different person. NEVER in my life even knew how anxiety felt, never recalled having depression. CRAZY ABSURD THOUGHTS! Literally feel like a psychopath! Let's not mention I’ve gained 50 pounds! I feel disgusting! I have mini panic attacks! I’m pure evil to my boyfriend. I don’t even want to leave the house. I have anxiety about EVERY LITTLE THING! Nexplanon was the worst decision of my life! I’m completely done with birth control. I have it removed next month on the 11th, and Lord, I wish that day would hurry up and come!"

"I've had Nexplanon for 4 months, and I don't regret it. I was scared by the negative reviews, but I got it anyway. My experience has been so positive. Insertion was quick and painless, other than the lidocaine shot, which stings momentarily. I had been on my normal flow period (day 3) when I got the implant. Bleeding stopped completely within 3 hours. I spotted lightly for about 2 weeks straight beginning 8 days after insertion, but then it went away, and I've had zero bleeding since then. I lost 30 lbs almost effortlessly since getting the implant. The first 10 lbs came off in the first week without dieting. I had to work a little for the rest, but I think Nexplanon actually helped balance my pre-existing body chemistry problems and made it easier."

"You have to understand that when you look at review pages like this before/right after getting the implant in, worry the negative reviews will outweigh the positive simply because when you have a bad experience, you want to warn others, and most people enjoying life with Nexplanon don't return to the review page that terrified them when they first got the implant. I saw this very page and worried I would have a bad time on the implant, boy, was I wrong! No period for 6 months and then a light one on the 7th with period pain on only one day of that period. The implantation site is still there if you look, but no pain or discomfort. Definitely better than the pill that I was on prior for period pain. Talk to your doctor and make your own choice! GL"

"Getting Nexplanon means getting stabbed in the arm. It hurts a bit, but better than getting a metal spring stuck in your uterus, I say. I have been period-free since day one. That's right, no period. I also have not gained any weight and have had no issues with acne. The thing lasts three years. THREE YEARS! I am worry-free, side effect-free, and baby-free. What more can you ask for?"

"*DO NOT TRY THIS PRODUCT*!! This is my first time trying Nexplanon. It's been TWO weeks, and I am actually having it removed TODAY!! All the reviews I've read are accurate, and the side effects are immediate. I have anxiety, anger, depression, an empty feeling, want to be secluded, and that's just mental. Physically dizzy, nauseous, diarrhea, itching face, the area of insertion itches something wicked, like I'm rejecting it... sweating, chills, insomnia. Please don't take the chance without doing your homework first, and 99.99% of everyone asked that has used this thing hated it and/or bled for MANY months at a time :("

"I've had my Nexplanon for over a year now, it's very effective against not getting pregnant, and that's the best part only. I have 2 periods a month, one light, one heavy. I randomly bleed, as well as cramp horribly before I start. I've had headaches, nausea, hives, nasal sinus issues, depression, mood swings, weight gain, loss of appetite, peeling skin on my face, dandruff, a rash on my arm, constantly itching, loss of sex drive, tiredness, and the list continues."

"In reading the comments, many have experienced abnormal bleeding and other symptoms. I highly suggest getting frequent check-ups with your doctor. My daughter (30s) got the implant 2 years ago. Seemed ok the first year, had no periods, then occasional periods. Then this year, very heavy, clotting bleeding started, often. Plus back pain, dizziness, and headaches. Doctors thought kidney stones because of the back pain. Then they thought possible urinary tract infection because urinating became painful. Then the bleeding and symptoms got worse. This week, 11/22/19, my daughter has been diagnosed with cancer!!! Possibly cervical/uterus. We’re waiting on further tests. I don’t know if it’s related to this medication, but I want to tell anyone who is experiencing side effects with bleeding to go to the doctor and keep getting checked, and insist they do a thorough checkup."

"Been on Nexplanon for 3 years now, and I can say it's the best birth control there is out there. I don't have to worry about taking pills or using a backup at all. I'm definitely going back to get my second one. I only get headaches, and I haven't had a period, but other than that, it's all good."

"I've been on Nexplanon for about a year now. I bled constantly the first 9 months, along with acne and horrible cramps. Hot flashes as well. Now my period just doesn't come at all, yet I still get the horrible cramps often. I have no sex drive, and I feel like my hair/face is always greasy. I haven't gained any weight, which is the only plus."

"Had Nexplanon put in February 2018, by March, was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, which was put down to bereavement. By April 2018, I was in the darkest place in my mind. I had postnatal depression 14 years previously, but nothing on this scale. I was treated with citalopram for my depression till they stopped working for me in September 2019. I was then prescribed mirtazapine for my depression. It wasn't till December 19, 2019, that my GP said about the low moods caused by the Nexplanon and said about removing it, booked in for removal of the implant the following day. Had implant removed December 20, 2019, and after a few days felt like the black mist that had been present for nearly 2 years had gone. I actually felt happy and normal. The following weeks, I weaned off my antidepressants and I'm really happy and positive. I'm 100% positive that Nexplanon caused my depression and super bad thoughts."

"Let me just say, “Wow, YEAH TO ALL THESE REVIEWS!! ALL FACTS!!” Gosh dammit, I hate all these mood swings. My boyfriend said it’s like I have an on/off switch to my moods that occurs every 10 minutes. I’ve always had the same thoughts that make me depressed and stressed. I’ve had this Nexplanon for a month already, and now my same thoughts that I think about every day before this BC are making me hella suicidal. I’ve decided to live in my car just to get away from my problems at my place. Probably going to regret moving into my car once I remove this implant. DO NOT GET THIS!! Especially if you already have mental issues. Unless you only want to get it so you don’t have to deal with getting pregnant."

"I got the Nexplanon about 3 months ago. I'm gonna break down my list of issues. I have been bleeding/spotting ever since then, total change in my hair texture (bad), acne which I have always had clear skin, always feeling down, weight gain, weak, and no energy whatsoever. I have done everything but the Depo Provera shot. I guess I just gotta take my chances. Wish I didn't have to take it out, but I can't deal with ALL the side effects. Hope this helps anyone."

"It's very effective against pregnancy, but the side effects have been horrible for me. I got it installed in June 2014 after having my baby. In August, I noticed two patches of my hair gone and severely thinned out in the front of my hair. I just thought this was due to postpartum hair loss, which typically happens 3-4 months after you have a baby. However, it is now January 27, 2015, and the hair loss has continued and now has spread to my entire front head around the edges. Also, since I have had it, I have had no desire for sex. Nothing gets me aroused at all. My sex drive is nonexistent. I am going to get it removed soon because the side effects are unbearable. I am most upset by my hair loss."

"I got my first Nexplanon in 2016 and had it in for a little over three years. The first couple of years were great, my period stopped. Towards the end of the 3-year mark, I started getting more migraines, had two burst ovarian cysts, and was irregularly bleeding. I thought it was just because the hormone level had gone down, so I got a new Nexplanon reinserted. Two months into the new one, I lost all sex drive. Read forums like crazy and was astonished to see people feeling the exact same way. Didn’t even want to be touched. Looking back, I did have increased anxiety and hadn’t felt like myself for a while. Times when I should’ve been happy but wasn’t. If you feel like you aren’t quite feeling yourself, don’t discount it! Great for preventing pregnancy and worked for me for a while, but everyone’s body is different. Waiting to see how I feel without it before potentially getting a copper IUD."

"I got this put in roughly 7 months ago, and honestly, I've had no problems at all. I was, like many, nervous because of all the horror stories I heard about bleeding and moodiness and decreased sex drive, but decided to try it. I have had no prolonged bleeding, I get a 3-4 day long period once a month. I am not moody at all, which is great, because the pill made me crazy. And I haven't noticed a significant difference in my sex drive, though it has decreased a little - my boyfriend and I have had no problems. I'm glad my body reacted positively to this, because it is a very efficient method of birth control. I truly recommend at least trying it to see how your body reacts, and be sure to remember to give it some time to settle in."

"I have had this for about 2 and a half years now. It has really taken a toll on my life. I’m either feeling sad or mad. I have no sex drive. The weight gain is ridiculous, I gained 20 pounds since being on this birth control. Losing weight is so hard, I can work out and fast, and I only lose a pound. I didn’t have a period for the longest time, and now I randomly have my period or spotting. I can’t even track it properly because it’s a mess. Don’t get me wrong, if you can handle all of this, then this is a product for you. The birth control part of it is great."
