For Birth Control "Where do I start? I'm 22 years old, and I had Implanon inserted in the middle of July 2009. Insertion was painless, but side effects are unbearable. I've gained 50 lbs and counting, constant bleeding ever since I got it; severe anxiety/depression and mood swings. No sex drive, increased vaginal discharge, acne... did I mention I've been bleeding for 6 months! I want to switch to Yaz, but I smoke."

For Birth Control "My boyfriend and I used to have sex all the time... Because I didn't want to get knocked up, I got on this thing, and well, it worked, mainly because you lose your sex drive, gain absolutely tons of weight, and can't stand the little things you used to ignore. Sooo yes, you won't get pregnant unless you're single out on the town, and no one has to deal with that."

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon for about 12 weeks and am going to have it removed next week. Although a good form of contraception for preventing babies, I have found it made me moody, anxious, and at times downright depressed. Also sometimes aggressive, and my libido dwindled to nothing (rather defeats the object). My poor young boys think an alien has inhabited their mummy's body, and they are the final reason I am having it taken out. I have been irritable beyond belief with them and never was before this went in. My husband wants his wife back, my kids want their mum back, and I want my life back. It works for some people. It has not worked for me."

For Birth Control "I have been on Implanon since May 2013, and altogether I have been on my period for a total of 6 months. My periods used to be super light and 3-4 days long. I have not gained any weight, however, I have lost all interest in having sex. My boyfriend of a little over a year and a half is going crazy, and I am also. I have read some other reviews on it and am glad I am not the only one. I will wait a full year before deciding whether or not I am going to take it out."

For Birth Control "I've had it in for 8 months now and only get my light spotting when stressed. I love the convenience of no pill and one hormone. I have gained 5 pounds (I'm less active) and have a lower sex drive, but it's not that bad. I just find myself too tired to do anything."

For Birth Control "I give this a 5 because it does prevent pregnancy, yet so did my pill. Switched because I wanted something I didn't have to remember to take. Been on this for a year now, the first 5 months were alright. But the last 7 months I've noticed my period is heavy and gets me lightheaded. I have more migraines, which I never experienced before Implanon. Sex drive is way down, bad mood swings, and constantly tired. Before Implanon, I was extremely healthy, now I feel like crap almost every day. Getting removed once insurance starts up."

For Birth Control "I am halfway through my second implant! I cannot lie. I love it. The first two months were hell, but you have to let your body get used to the fact you have a hormone replacement. You cannot expect it to be a quick changeover. My skin has stayed the same. Weight pretty similar, a little heavy, but that is due to my eating! I will say I do have a low sex drive, but unfortunately, I think that's just me! I have read some people really slating the implant, but by their own admission, they have only tried it for a week or so? You can't expect it to be a dream at the beginning, you are changing your body's way of working. I recommend giving it at least six months. I went through the long period, but now I haven't had a period in four years! Hope this helps."

For Birth Control "I've had my birth control in for almost 2 and a half years now and finally made an appointment to get it out next week. I was in denial that the zero sex drive, long-lasting periods, mood swings, depression, and 45-pound weight gain was because of that. Don't get me wrong, it does its job. Bc for me, I had no urge to have sex so there was no way for me to get pregnant. Hoping to see a turnaround in my life after the removal and hopeful to patch my relationships affected by my raging hormones."

For Birth Control "The only reason I give this a one is because it is effective. However, I have constant headaches, acne, mood swings, weight gain (over 40 lbs!), and the most important thing is absolutely no sex drive!"

For Birth Control "I had Implanon inserted in June 2015 and currently still have the implant. I have experienced so many body changes that it urged me to look up the side effects. I found all of these posts and can't believe it! It all makes sense now! I have gained almost 10 lbs, have less of a sex drive, feel like a crazy person, my hair stopped growing, and worst of all, I have my period randomly with spotting all the time! It's hard to have sex or want to have sex when you're bloated and spotting 3 weeks out of the month! I am over this! I'm getting this out ASAP! Thank you, ladies!"

For Birth Control "I got it in Jan 2008. No period for 3 months, then I bled for 2 months straight. After that, 2 periods a month for about 5 days each... EXHAUSTING! Tired, sad, depressed, no sex drive, weight gain, anger, aggressiveness, sweet tooth, but the worst - THE HORRIBLE mood swings! The best thing about it, it didn't hurt when it went in, minimal tenderness after insertion, and I did not get pregnant! I seriously feel like I am going through the change of life at 28 years. I am having it removed in days. No clue as to how to prevent future birth control, but NO MORE HORMONES! Probably won't be an issue, hubby hates the new evil me!"

For Birth Control "I got my first Implanon in March 2006 and just had my second done in March 2009. This birth control is my freedom. I've read that some women have had bad side effects, but reading those seems so foreign to me. I did have random light spotting every three or four months (sometimes even longer) that would last from 3 days to 7 days. I never buy tampons anymore. I feel carefree and never notice the implant. I'm a typically moody person that is quickly set off, so I don't put the blame on the Implanon. I have noticed that after having the second one put in, my sex drive has gone down. I find this quite frustrating because I really do enjoy being intimate with my partner."

For Birth Control "It works, didn't get pregnant for the full 3 years, however, I had some mood swings from hell, headaches, anxiety, depression, dryness, and little to no sex drive. I didn't gain a lot of weight (maybe a couple of pounds). However, everyone is different, so side effects can be different."

For Birth Control "I had it since March 2009. I was breastfeeding, and it was great. Until I stopped breastfeeding in June 2010. Since then, I have been on my period. Super bad bleeding with the worst cramps ever or spotting still with cramps. NO SEX drive at all. I'm mad all the time at someone for doing anything. Always feeling sad. Feeling that I'm sick all the time, and my tummy hurts. I'm always sleepy. I HAD great skin, now not so much. I'm getting it out as soon as possible. No more for me."

For Birth Control "I have found the implant to be amazing! Have had two so far, so have experienced nearly 6 years of the contraception. With the implant, you never have to worry, I have never experienced any issues. I have not put on weight, lost my sex drive, or experienced heavy periods. In fact, I have no periods, which does slightly worry me, however, I have been assured that this is a normal symptom, and I am not complaining about this. It is quite uncomfortable when changed, as they do have a habit of embedding into the arm tissue, causing a lot of prodding by the nurse, but this is not a painful transition."

For Birth Control "I got this birth control a year and a half ago. For the first year, it was great, no period or anything. I did have some weight gain, about 15 pounds, and it hurts in my arm and took away my sex drive. After a year, I started having my period monthly, and they would last two weeks or more. It made me extremely irritable and moody, and now I have to take the pill and have the bar in to regulate my period, which didn't help my moodiness whatsoever. I feel like I'm constantly hungry, and I'm active in the gym and feel like I haven't lost any weight over an 8-month period. I do not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I had the Implanon inserted about 7 months ago. Since I had it inserted, I have been struggling with severe migraines, mood swings, acne, intermittent spotting that never really stops and can start at any time, lack of sex drive, and I have gained 12 lbs. I have not changed my eating habits, and I exercise frequently. After reading the reviews, I have now realized what is causing all these issues. I will have it removed and post another update once done. Thank you all for the reviews."

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon implant for the past 7 years. My experience has been very positive, I have had complete loss of period since getting the implant and no noticeable side effects apart from a lower sex drive, which I have only discovered since getting it removed. 2 months ago, I had my third implant removed after talking with my boyfriend and deciding that I no longer required birth control and would like to experience my natural body cycles again. I have had a few side effects since getting it removed, but nothing too bad (some breakouts, exhaustion, lack of motivation), only my period still hasn't returned yet. My doctor said it may take a few months, so hopefully it returns soon."

For Birth Control "I can honestly say I hated this birth control. I haven't stopped bleeding since I got it a year ago. I can't hold anything with my left arm, otherwise, my arm just falls. It's made me gain 40 kgs, and I can't seem to lose it no matter what I try. My sex drive is gone, I'm always sick, and get the worse mood swings. Not something I'll be getting again anytime soon."

For Birth Control "I had my Implanon inserted in October 2009 and had it removed today. At first, I was very happy, felt great, it healed super fast and easy. The skin around it did itch a whole lot. No rash, just incredibly itchy skin! The itching started about 2 weeks after the procedure when the original bruise went away and lasted for another 2 weeks. I was thinking I was allergic to it and almost had it removed, but the itching stopped just as suddenly as it started. I still had my periods, but they were irregular and not very heavy. I did gain 8 lb, not a big deal. Now, the reason I had it removed is I became SUPER emotional, always unhappy for no reason, often tired, had headaches, lost sex drive, and it just kept getting worse."

For Birth Control "Since getting the implant in, I had a few longer periods, and now I haven't gotten it for a couple of months. That has been the only advantage so far for me. I was always skinny, then gained 30 pounds from this. Being in my 20s, I was horrified. I have to get all new clothes because of mine not fitting, and I was so embarrassed to even go out. I've also never had acne before, and now I've been having major breakouts constantly. I also have no sex drive anymore, I have no energy, and I have been very depressed, which has never happened to me before. I am now getting this removed after 5 months of having it. Overall, I would not recommend this option. But of course, this doesn't happen to everyone."

For Birth Control "I've had the Implanon for 4 months already, the first two months I got my menstrual cycle, now I don't. My breasts got swollen, and my face is breaking out, I have some acne. Losing weight is a good part, but sex is getting very uncomfortable and painful. But I still recommend it."

For Birth Control "It was okay. I didn't get pregnant, though my sex drive was extremely low. I had breakthrough bleeding almost the whole time, which didn't help the sex drive. When I got off it, my husband said I seemed more happy and acted more my age (mid 20s). Apparently, it affected my mood greatly, and I hadn't noticed."

For Birth Control "I wasn't ready to have a baby when I just got married in 2008, though, to 2012. So Implanon was the latest contraceptive then. I had the rod inserted in my arm with minimum pain. But years later, the removal was a bit more painful. The side effects of Implanon. I started off okay for a few months, then I started having irregular menstruation and breast tenderness. I started spotting drops of blood every 2 weeks. I had lower libido and was more aggressive. My temperament grew increasingly erratic. I also felt like my hair was falling out. After a year, I think I completely transformed into a raging monster. I was increasingly unstable in the head. I had another violent outburst, and my whole personality shifted and it ended my marriage too. I had the Implanon removed. I didn't recover immediately, but after about 4 to 6 months for the hormones to wean. It has been 6 years since then and that whole period of my life was definitely out of character."
