For Birth Control "Seemed to work fine for the first 3 years, however, the 2nd time around mood swings are horrendous, weight gain of approx. 2 stone no matter how much exercise/diets I never shed a pound, total loss of sex drive, and heavy irregular bleeding - getting it removed now."

For Birth Control "Got it 3 years ago and have had it reinserted in the last 6 months. Found it great for the first 3 years, rarely had periods, but when I did, at random times. Did not affect my sex drive, but my skin has suffered terribly with breakouts. Since I reinserted it, it's a completely different story: very heavy period, I'm a complete emotional basket case, extreme mood swings, not feeling myself. Seriously considering a new form of contraception."

For Birth Control "I used Implanon right after my first child only for about a year, was very fat, got it removed, lost the weight, but no other side effects. After my second child, I got it again. Only this time, I have terrible migraine headaches, mood swings, and weight gain. I have tried losing weight and eating healthy, and I do lose the weight, but it has to be a strict diet and exercise routine, or else my weight will just come right back. I also get my period about 2-3 times a month! For me, this is definitely not worth it. Getting it removed ASAP."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon inserted 4 months ago after my son was born. Since then, I have gained 15 additional pounds to the weight I had gained due to pregnancy. I have had a migraine for the past 4 days that not even migraine medicine and sleep can't take away. My acne is terrible since I got this birth control. I have been bleeding non-stop for the past 4 months. My hair is falling out. It is causing major mood swings. It is making me a very angry person, which I am not. Overall, I just feel unhealthy due to the Implanon. Every possible side effect that any Implanon user could experience, I am experiencing."

For Birth Control "I got my first Implanon in July 2011 at 17 y/o. The 3 years of being on my first rod was okay. I gained about 15 lbs, started getting a little acne (never had acne before that), and I had a period about twice a year (light, lasted a week). I got my second implant in July 2014. A month later, I started experiencing HORRIBLE acne, mood swings, and more weight gain. I've now gained about 30 lbs since getting my first rod. The only pros are no periods (twice a year) and no pregnancies (my boyfriend had unprotected sex for almost 5 yrs). My acne has calmed down a lot in the past 6 months, but I now have a lot of scarring. It's now almost 2 years into my second rod, and I plan on getting it removed this summer because I can't get the weight off."

For Birth Control "I had this removed yesterday morning, and within 24 hours, my sex drive kicked back in again. Funny that. This thing works effectively as birth control because you probably won't want your partner to touch you. Yep, here are 10 things I won't miss by having a stick owned by one of the world's largest pharmaceutical corporations in my arm: 1. Headaches. 2. Bleeding. Every. Day. 3. No normal period. See point 2. 4. No sex drive. 5. Weight gain. 6. Mood swings that made me feel insane. 7. Sensitivity to the stupidest things. 8. Lower bone density and higher risk of osteoporosis. See 2007 study. 9. Uncharted, unknown long-term effects. 10. Having a stick that might break through my skin when grabbed accidentally. Satisfaction: never again."

For Birth Control "I had my Implanon placed in Feb 2011. The procedure to place it was quick and painless. Prior to Implanon, I had been on the Depo shot. The insertion was less painful than the shot. I just had the implant removed 10/2013. I noticed severe mood swings right off the bat and went straight back to my doctor to have it removed. We discussed options, and I decided to take a mood stabilizer for the times when I felt extra B*tchy! I spotted for a few days, then had a period once every 3 months. For the next 3 years, I did gain about 60 pounds over 2.5 years. Some of it was my eating and exercise habits, and some of it I believe was Implanon. All in all, it was a good experience, I just will not do it again."

For Birth Control "I've never done anything like this, but I decided to share my story. I was on Implanon birth control for two and a half years. I got it put in three weeks after my daughter was born. I weighed 155 at the time. I tried everything to lose weight, I ate healthy and worked out daily, from doing Zumba workout videos to running two miles a day. I just couldn't lose weight. My periods were awful, I would be on mine for at least 14 days out of the month, every month. I also had really bad headaches at least twice a month, and the mood swings were horrible, I just wasn't myself. So I finally got the implant taken out a week ago today, and I feel so much better. I have lost ten pounds without working out or changing what I eat."

For Birth Control "I'm 18, and I have had the implant for about 3 months. Overall, it has been very effective for its main purpose, and my skin has improved massively. My periods are still regular but now last much longer (about 8 days) and are so light that using tampons is out of the question. I do experience more mood swings and often cry for no reason. The biggest side effect I've noticed has been my weight, I have lost a lot of weight and have nearly no appetite, and when I do eat, I feel nauseous. I also can't drink alcohol without being sick all of the next day, not sure whether this is the implant, but it only became an issue after getting it. I much prefer this method to the pill and would recommend it, still waiting for my body to settle down!"

For Birth Control "I've had the Implanon in my arm for 3 years now, ending next month, April 2014. I will have it removed and not continue to use it. There are pros and cons. Pros: of course, I am not pregnant, so if you want a trustworthy contraceptive and don't mind the side effects, then this is it. However, when I got it inserted in 2011, I was 19. I broke out like crazy, gained a lot of weight, didn't have my period for like a year, and then it would come like 4 times a year. Most importantly, I feel like I am crazy! I have crazy mood swings, when I think of sex, I just want to throw up (hence, sex drive gone). I want to be normal again. I give it an 8 because it's a great product. To me, acne and weight gain are not a problem, and I never got pregnant having sex."

For Birth Control "I found out about the bar last year in October. I was on the pill. I went on the bar because it was an easier option, not needing to remember to take a pill every morning. The first 2 weeks of the bar were great!! I started losing weight just like that. After that two weeks, I began a period that took forever to go away-around 1 month. I started getting headaches and very emotional. But other than that, it’s fine! The great thing about it was I lost 7 kgs and got to eat whatever I wanted and still didn't gain weight."

For Birth Control "I was 21 when I got Implanon inserted. I wanted an easy-to-remember contraceptive that was not placed in my uterus, that kind of freaks me out. Simple, straightforward insertion, few days of bruising. I had it inserted after my baby turned 8 weeks. I hadn't had my period yet, and after the insertion, continued to not have periods for a whole year (up to today), no mood swings, no acne, a really great birth control! However, I have a non-existent sex drive, and it's really rocking my marriage. After a lot of contemplation and concluding that it's the birth control and not likely the breastfeeding causing this lack of libido (possibly motherhood too), I am removing it next week and going back on pills. Good luck to my sex life!"

For Birth Control "I would NEVER recommend this birth control to anyone. I had it for a year straight! With the feeling of being pregnant. Boobs constantly hurt, always cramping, migraines, exhausted every day, mood swings, and zero sex drive. I would have rather been pregnant. So not worth it. Much rather remember a pill every day!"

For Birth Control "I've had Implanon in for almost a year. Since I've had it, I haven't gone for more than 2 days without spotting, will have a heavy period for up to 5 weeks, migraines, muscle pains, joint aches, acne, incredible mood swings, will cry for no reason, extreme anxiety where everything around me goes hazy and I feel like I'm moving in slow motion, my breasts constantly ache, and I've gained about 35 pounds. While it's great to not have to worry about taking a pill daily, the side effects aren't worth it."

For Birth Control "I still have mine, it's been 2 years and a month. Some mood swings, but not bad. Always hungry, gained like 40 pounds, but I have no period, no cramps. I have not broken out at all, and I never have before either. My hair grew really fast! I think it's amazing, it's just the weight gain and always tired because I feel so fat now and less active. But that's why I have a gym. I feel fine."

For Birth Control "I got this implant in Feb 2015, 2 months after my boy was born, and I'm planning to take it out again ASAP. As soon as I put it in, I had a migraine that lasted 3 days, then it subsided. My joints ache, my energy levels are so low, I can't concentrate on more than 1 task at a time, and no matter how I adjust my diet, the weight keeps piling on. I started at 85 kg, I'm now 115 kg. Oh yes, and the mood... I'm not interested in anything. I feel low all the time. I lost my zest for life. My bf keeps telling me he misses me, and I never understood until now. I bite his head off more and more, it's like when I was pregnant, I couldn't stand him even though he's been an angel from day 1."

For Birth Control "I've only had it for 4 months now. It's been stressful not knowing what to expect because no one's experience is the same. I'm not sure if my mood swings are from it or not. Spotting is really frustrating, and right now I'm having extreme bleeding after a month and a half of nothing. I can't afford to see my GP every time I get anxious, and nothing online helps."

For Birth Control "Absolutely hate it! I've had it for over 2 years and have bled nearly the whole time it's been in. No wonder it's like 99.99% effective, you're on your period nearly 90% of the time! I plan to get it out soon once I build up the courage to. Zero sex drive and insane mood swings since having it in as well."

For Birth Control "When I first got this birth control, I didn't get my period for a couple of months, but then all of a sudden, I started getting heavy periods and bad cramps. I recommend this for anyone else who forgets to take their pills, and also I started gaining weight, but I lose weight at times, also, it all depends on your body. I have 2 more years to go with this birth control, and I get mood swings at times, not all the time. Good luck, ladies!"

For Birth Control "The first week was great. My period stopped, and I thought, 'Wow, this is going to work'... Oh, how wrong I was. It has been anything but great. I have mood swings, anxiety, severe depression, and don't want to be in social situations with extreme paranoia. For no logical reason, I feel like my partner doesn't love me. I have my period twice a month. I spot bleed every other day. Within the first 6 weeks, I experienced bacterial vaginosis. It lasted a week (never had it before - I was scared, disgusted, and embarrassed), thrush on and off for three, a UTI on and off for three (while I had thrush). I would still recommend trying, I haven't gotten pregnant, and every girl responds differently. Just be aware of how terrible it can be. I am getting it removed."

For Birth Control "I was on my period when I got the bar put in, and it was fairly heavy, it stopped overnight, and I didn't get my period for 4-ish weeks. When I got my period again, it was for 4 weeks. When I came off my period, I was only off for like 3 days before it started again. This time it was for just over 8 weeks, super light, but enough that I had to wear a liner all the time. I've put on 10 kg, and I'm always tired and cranky for no reason. I have no energy at all and put a lot of things off because I just can't be bothered. I've been off for about a week now and am getting it removed on Thursday because I don't want to deal with 8 weeks of bleeding again. I should give it more of a chance, but I don't want to put up with that long of a period."

For Birth Control "I have used Implanon since January 17, 2008. At first, I didn't feel anything and thought this was the best method of birth control. However, as time progressed, I have experienced a lot of negative symptoms. I have gained weight, my breasts are constantly in pain, I have lower back pain, and my mood swings have become the worst. It's gotten so bad because I get mad at the smallest things and can't control my attitude. I do believe this is one of the best methods of preventing pregnancy but just hate the side effects that come along with it."

For Birth Control "I have used Implanon for 6 years. I will be getting my second one removed next month, and another one will be put in. I love this. I don't get a period, I lose about 7 to 10 lbs. in the first couple of months after insertion, and it doesn't hurt at all. The only con for me is towards the end of the 3 years, I get very emotional and depressed. For about 3 months, everything pisses me off and/or makes me cry. Prior to Implanon, I have tried birth control pills, the patch, the ring, and the IUD. I was allergic to the patch, cried constantly on the pills and the ring, and experienced my first panic attack while getting the IUD put in. (IUD was awful.)"

For Birth Control "I got Implanon in October 2013. After a month, my cycle of period has become strange. Starting off being light (spotting) for a week or two, then stopped. But after a while (a week), really heavy like soaking a super tampon in 10 mins. That continued a day or two, then light again, lasting for more than 1-2 months at a time, stopping and starting of blood flow during a period. I also experienced cramping and bloating sometimes, started to gain weight after three months, gained 5 kg in three months, some mood swings (but not too bad). I've got it removed, of course."

For Birth Control "I had the implant for three months and then had it removed. I became very emotional, overly sensitive, and very depressed. I initially did not recognize that this was being caused by the implant, but as soon as I did, I made the appointment to have it removed. I felt significantly better within a few days. I know everyone is different, so I am not writing this to deter anyone from getting it, but rather to share my experience."
