"I started taking this drug for what I think is GERD, as I could not get a doctor's appointment to get my prescription for omeprazole. After 3 days, I decided never again would I take the drug. Terrible constipation, stomach pain, chest pain, headaches, and feeling tired all the time. Morale of the story, wait to get an appointment..."

Esomeprazole "I had excess acid all of my life, including as a child. As an adult, I was miserable because all of my friends and family could eat anything at any time. I often would sit up in bed for hours trying to sleep. I tried everything, then my doctor put me on Nexium. It has been heaven. I eat normally. I sleep normally. I don't hurt, belch, and/or throw up anymore. No side effects after over two years. Love this stuff."

Esomeprazole "I have tried everything to ease the pain and discomfort of acid reflux. Then I was introduced to the 'purple pill', Nexium, about three years ago, and to my total surprise, it worked. So now I'm a 'firm believer' in the product. I'm very, very satisfied. Thank you, Nexium!"

Esomeprazole "I had been taking Somac (brand of pantoprazole) for a possible ulcer. Then a pharmacist suggested Nexium. Within hours, I had bad nausea. The next day, I read it causes bad nausea. I went back to the pharmacy, and the chemist confirmed nausea and sweating. I had both, so no more for me."

Esomeprazole "I've been on and off Nexium since the beginning of 2020. My GERD symptoms can get really bad if I don't follow a strict diet and a certain way to eat, which is small portions and chew slowly. Sometimes I don't follow those rules, so I would need Nexium as soon as the GERD gets bad. Nexium does work for my worst symptoms, but I think this is the last time I will take these tablets because it's definitely the reason why I was feeling so weird every time I took them. My side effects I would get are bloating, constipation, racing thoughts, mind pops, and VERY creepy dreams and thoughts. I can't wait until the drug is completely out of my system. My tips for people struggling with GERD: eat healthy, exercise, lower stress and anxiety, limit full cream, acidic food, and spicy food, eat small meals, chew your food A LOT, and don't drink liquids with food (this is my main cause of GERD). Avoid Nexium. It has so many lawsuits, yet it's still on shelves in stores."

Esomeprazole "I only took it for 3 weeks, and I had never been so sick in my entire life - Unable to eat without vomiting - Vomiting up acid for hours - Rash - Wheezing - Had to go to the ER twice and call an ambulance once - Couldn’t even drink water without vomiting - Panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. This is pure awfulness."

Esomeprazole "I have been on Nexium for years. Have tried to get off it with no success. Last spring, summer 2020, symptoms warranted a complete workup - lab, CT, upper endo - increased my Nexium to 80 mg a day. I started (in hindsight) getting almost daily headaches, more depressed and irritable, then out of control anger. I thought I was going crazy. I stopped Nexium 3 days ago. No more headaches, feel great, no irritability. I am now on 40 mg 2x a day. This is a horrible drug. Stay away at all costs. Plus, very expensive - interestingly, 3x as much with insurance, so I bought OTC. I think there needs to be a class action suit against this drug - it is addictive and changes your body's ability to deal with reflux (proven in studies of people without GERD)."

Esomeprazole "Doctor told me to take Nexium for heartburn. Within a day, made me feel bloated, headache, tired, stomach cramps, serious constipation for 3 weeks, and low mood. I took this for 3 weeks on and off. Had no idea it was Nexium that was making me feel awful, thought it was my body, which made me worry a lot. It worked well for heartburn, but the side effects were awful. Would never take it again."

Esomeprazole "It is the only medicine for reflux that works for me. Right now, I am on a different medicine because my insurance won't pay for it, and I even have trouble eating basic foods (with a good reflux medicine, you should only have problems when you make a really wrong food choice; not normal food at normal times). The same insurance has paid for it for 3 years, and now I, since the end of June, have been having to go through too much red tape to get Nexium, that works for me."

Esomeprazole "I'm 60 years old, 8 stone, and really careful what I eat, but for weeks on end, I'll get GERD. It takes its toll and gets me down. I've tried lots of meds, including nearly all the PPIs available. They all have side effects for me, but Nexium was clearly the worst. It's a drug that actually worked well, cured the GERD, but I've given up with it as I get headaches, dry mouth, tinnitus, twice as bad as normal, and a fatigue like I have flu. The best of the worst for me is Rabeprazole. It's a debilitating illness that, when you're doing nothing to aggravate it, flares up. I'd have an operation if there was one available, but the doctors never give this as an option, just keep prescribing these strange drugs that make you feel dreadful."

Esomeprazole "My cardiologist noticed that I had a cough and thought it might be acid reflux. I filled the script that day (40 mg). The next day my gut was tender, I was lightheaded, had diarrhea. Three days in, the pain was worse, my migraines had become daily and acutely painful, nausea persisted, I was flatulent, and even that caused severe gut pain. I felt nausea but thought it was a migraine-related problem. I reasoned all my symptoms could not have been from 10 capsules that were supposed to help my cough. After I looked online, I stopped the pills, thinking that would be the end of my pain, but six days later I am still dealing with some side effects, and the pain is just now easing up. Thanks to this site, I finally put it all together. Never take ESOMEPRAZOLE, the generic for Nexium. I have never had a side effect to anything that was this painful, this hard to pinpoint, and took this long to clear up."

"I have taken generic Nexium (esomeprazole) for a little over a year. I started by taking it every day. I experienced immediate relief, which was a big surprise. I had heartburn for years, and there were many foods I liked that I could not eat. Within 6 hours of taking my first pill, I felt relief, and it has not repeated itself unless I don't take it for 3 or more days. I am cutting back to 1 every other day, and that should work well."

Esomeprazole "I have GERD intermittently, as a side effect of another illness. I only get symptoms around lying down in bed or preparing to. I only take it when I feel the signs escalating at bedtime, and if I take it on time, the symptoms subside rapidly, and I can comfortably go to bed within a few minutes. I feel bad that the experience might be completely different for others. But I'm glad that for me, it works perfectly."

Esomeprazole "I thought the Nexium Clear Minis would be a good choice since they're so small they should be very easy to swallow. Today I think I aspirated the capsule as I took it early this morning and coughed it up finally this evening. In the windpipe, it didn't dissolve like it would in the esophagus and stomach, so it was partially intact. Scary and relieved that it didn't go further into my lungs!"

Esomeprazole "I took 20 mg for about a year. Heartburn was gone, but at what cost? Painful joints and hips, fatigue. Feeling lousy. Look up what the recent studies are saying about liver damage. This medicine starves your body of nutrients like calcium and magnesium, which are highly essential. This can affect your bones. Also, the low stomach acid creates a friendly environment for nasty bacteria that attack your organs. I have had my last dose of this very dangerous drug. Do your research and be aware."

"In the beginning, couldn't figure out what my problem was. Wasn't eating excessive amounts of bad food to aggravate any symptoms, but was going through Tums Ultra like candy, and trying to get relief from Pepto Bismol. Shortly thereafter, moved onto Zantac, which was awful and didn't help at all. Then came prescription omeprazole, which gave some relief but not much, because my acid was absolutely out of control. It was painful to eat, drink, or pretty much just sit still. Many sleepless nights with stomach acid just wreaking havoc on my gut and esophagus, coming up my throat painfully on the back of my tongue, making me nearly want to vomit from the pain. Then I tried OTC Nexium 20mg and it began to give me relief again. Met with my doctor and it was instantly prescribed, after a year, and seeing a gastroenterologist, it was adjusted to 40 MG, and the only time my GERD and acid reflux get out of control is when I don't take this pill. Works wonders, no side effects for me."

"I thought Nexium was my cure-all. So, to treat ulcers, my doctor moved me to a prescription strength. One week after taking it, I had severe abdominal pains, back and neck pain, headache, tender scalp, and painful feet. Not to mention muscle spasms throughout my body. I just had my blood work done, and after this reaction, we did the blood work again. My C-reactive protein was 31 (always under 1). Yikes! I described the pain in my stomach as a pain jumping from organ to organ, like being kicked and stepped on, and every now and then stabbed with a jolt of voltage. It scared the hell out of me. Even if you don't have a reaction, I wouldn't stay on this long."

"I started taking Nexium (prescription 40 mg, 1X daily) in my late 20s for recurring indigestion (acid reflux) after an endoscopy. I've been taking it every day now for 30 years. It has been a godsend for me. I can't eat hardly anything without it. Even though I've had endoscopies about every 5 years, I'm concerned, as in the past 4 years I've been diagnosed with seborrhea, rosacea, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). I also have a horrible, chronic, nasty cough that I've had for as long as I can remember (no reason). Never smoked, don't drink, and even though I rarely have an appetite, am overweight (was a size 4-6 my entire life until I became postmenopausal at 50). I also have some new tummy issues. I made an appointment with an endocrinologist today."

Esomeprazole "Was given Nexium 40 mg for GERD. First week was great. Felt relief after 3 days. Second week it stopped working as well and nasty side effects. The worst being anxiety (crying all day), painful muscle cramps, and it made my chronic pain (fibromyalgia) worse! But also insomnia, stomach pain, headaches, trembling, watery diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, weakness, and fatigue. I'm asking the doctor tomorrow for something else. Never taking this again."

"I have had a hiatus hernia for many years, but it hasn't caused that many problems until about two years ago. The doc prescribed me everything under the sun, including Omi, Panto, Lanso, and Esomeprazole. By far, the worst of these was Esomeprazole, I experienced all of the bad stuff that people have given reviews about. I stopped taking Esom for a while, but the heartburn kept coming back, so I went back on it yesterday. Big mistake! After two hours, I had delusions, lower right side back pain, bloating, shakes, headache, chest pain, diarrhea, dizziness, I felt like a heart attack was going to happen (anxiety). Believe me when I say this medicine is an absolute nightmare! It may be alright for a few people to cure their acid reflux, but you get a whole new set of problems with it, which is far worse. A lot of people are on this for more than 14 days via docs' prescriptions, that's like a death sentence! It is still being sold as a wonder drug online and in chemists and supermarkets as well! Steer clear!"

Esomeprazole "I’m from England. I thought I was losing my mind, but I have had health issues with this acid reflux, belching all the time, so I tried all these medications. I started to get upset all the time, have bad nervousness. My stomach has issues, sleeping issues, bad shakes, headaches. I tried to talk to someone, and all they do is look at you like you’re losing your mind. Then, on top of that, I had unexplained seizures. The last time I had one was two years ago, and I was better. I thought great, I can go for my car license back, but I started to have issues again with belching. I was then given Nexium, I was on it for a day, then back to two seizures, then a rash on the side of my face, then I passed out at work. They did my blood pressure, and that was so high that I thought I was going to have a heart attack, so they kept me in over Christmas. I knew I was not losing my mind. People, be careful."

VA prescribed omeprazole, and after two weeks of 40 mg/day taken before two meals, I'm fine! No reflux. OK so far. Good because I like saving money."

"I had been on another PPI, my insurance would not cover it, so my gastro doc changed me to Nexium. It worked okay from another pharmaceutical company. When I received my 90-day refill, they changed pharmaceuticals to Camber. Unfortunately, things went south. Within a week of taking it, I noticed different changes: nausea, no appetite, and sore throat. I continued taking it for 3 weeks, and then issues became really bad. I called my gastro and ENT docs, got into see my ENT, and I developed ulcerated laryngitis and ulcers through my esophagus and duodenum (confirmed by tests). Unable to take this Camber esomeprazole product, perhaps some quality control should be done."

"Stress/anxiety ... GERD ... always occurs. Worst is the revolting acid in nose and throat, waking in the middle of the night. For around 20 years. Other medication, ineffective ... discovered, eventually, that certain foods, plus stress ... guaranteed GERD ... One excellent treatment proved to be 'Lait ribot' ... always a bottle of it available. It's sour milk, like very thin yogurt. Eventually, ordinary milk, if drunk as soon as any symptoms occurred, stops a full-on attack. Best was to discover my own WORST GERD-causing foods, e.g., meat, bread, citrus fruits, cider, etc. But medication is essential for stressful business trips, with unidentifiable foods. Woke up at 2 a.m. Forgot the effect of cider! ... terrible acid. Just one pill! GERD GONE!!!!"
