For GERD "Nexium was moderately effective at reducing my GERD symptoms, but the side effects made it not worth taking. I had trouble sleeping, felt very lethargic and fatigued, found it difficult to think through complex problems (which, in my job, is a serious concern). I felt constantly run-down and had no energy, but could not get a good night's sleep."

For GERD "I have been on Nexium for a number of years. After eating too much fiber, I got my stomach irritated. The doctor put me on 40 mg of Nexium instead of the 20 mg that I had taken. Well, the 40 mg caused my blood pressure to go up and my heart to race. Will not take the 40 mg anymore."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I had been taking Nexium for about the last 10 years. While taking it, I had no problems at all. Prior to taking Nexium, I had difficulties with acid reflux even from something as simple as eating a slice of bread."

For GERD "Heartburn has interfered with my life for years, and I can now honestly say Nexium has transformed my life. What an astounding difference - I could not believe it. My daughter recommended I try it, to say I was skeptical is an understatement. I think this is a wonder pill. No more waking in the night and taking antacid liquids or tablets. No more popping antacid tablets numerous times a day. What a fantastic relief. Brilliant really isn't strong enough to explain the difference."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I have taken Nexium for over 12 years. I have had a low magnesium problem for 10 years and severe dry mouth for 3 years. My doctor wants me to continue with Nexium, but I cannot continue. The magnesium problem is very serious, and I have had emergency doses of magnesium to get my levels back up. The dry mouth is causing me to have numerous dental problems. I really have to quit Nexium."

For GERD "I have been taking this medication for the past 4 months, 20 mg but recently up to 40 mg. I wanted to stop taking it a while ago as I felt it wasn’t working, but the specialist insists on taking it. Since taking 40 mg, I have felt so nauseous, have headaches, and feel so dizzy. Since reading these reviews, I have only just put 2 and 2 together. This drug is the cause of all the weird symptoms I’ve been experiencing for the past few months. I’ve had multiple doctor visits due to having bad palpitations, chest tightness, and breathlessness very regularly for the past few months. Had heart ultrasound and multiple ECGs, doctors have said my heart is fine and it’s my anxiety, yet it has nothing to do with my anxiety. This is the best I have ever felt mentally. These symptoms just hit me randomly. Before this drug, I didn’t feel like this. It’s truly scary thinking about all the symptoms these drugs cause and doctors insist it’s fine. I’m going to stop taking this ASAP. NEVER AGAIN!"

For Barrett's Esophagus "I have been on Nexium for at least 3-4 years. It did take a change in medicine to two pills a day, but I have not changed my diet like I should have. Nexium cured my Barrett's, and I am on a 2-year endoscopy check now, so I love it."

For GERD "After suffering since 2008, a trip to the emergency room on Thanksgiving 2012 resulted in a prescription for Nexium. It has been a lifesaver, I have been on it less than a week. After having episodes of throwing up at least five times a week during the night and heartburn daily, my throat was raw and I constantly had issues. It has been amazing to be able to again eat what I want without the repercussions. I was afraid to try it because of the cost pre-insurance, but I printed an online discount card and used my insurance, and it was very affordable. Not to mention, I am able to sleep through the night without having my head elevated and the other issues I was having. I have seven ulcers diagnosed in 2008 and haven't had an issue all week. I LOVE NEXIUM!"

For Barrett's Esophagus "I've been suffering with Barrett's for years. Tried omeprazole, anti-acid tablets, etc. On Boxing Day last year, I belched for 10 hours straight. There was a sulfur taste. I picked up a box of Nexium in a supermarket. Within a day, I was a lot better. Only used five tablets in the pack. I've slept really well since then and only have a small amount of reflux. My quality of life has improved because of Nexium."

For GERD "I took Nexium for 14 days for GERD problems...first week noticed a difference in my GERD symptoms. The only side effect in my first week with Nexium was diarrhea. In the second week, my side effects got bad...every day headache day and night, feeling tired all day, muscle pain in my back, my shoulders, my neck, and my cheekbones, trouble falling asleep at night...hope all these bad side effects go away soon."

For GERD "Was on Prevacid for over a year. All of a sudden, it stopped working. Tried Protonix, all I can say is never again. So then Dr. prescribed Nexium 40 mg, been on it for about a week, so far so good. No side effects that I can tell, and acid is definitely under control."

For GERD "I am selecting GERD only because I can't get a correct diagnosis. I've been taking Prilosec, Prevacid, etc., with no help. Symptoms include pain that mimicked a heart attack, anything I eat feels 'stuck' halfway down my esophagus, and I am vomiting almost everything I eat or drink. Nighttime is a horror; acid runs right up into my nose, and I vomit 4-5 times per night. Nexium almost immediately stopped all symptoms with no side effects. I'm not a doctor, but all I can say is it has been a miracle for me."

For GERD "Little to no heartburn after taking Nexium for 3 days now, but high blood pressure, tingly cramps in my stomach that bring me to the verge of throwing up, light headache, difficulty sleeping, throat's constrictive. Not sure if I can keep taking Nexium."

For Erosive Esophagitis "I started taking omeprazole 20 mg 25 years ago, then continued with esomeprazole and Nexium, no stop. I can’t quit, heartburn is coming back immediately, even taking only water, no food. With Nexium, I’m able to eat almost all food without heartburn. Regardless of potential side effects, the doctor advised not to try to quit. My acid reflux is not treatable, but Nexium works perfectly for me. No side effects or discomfort in over 20 years of my experience."

For GERD "Anxiety and GERD - Nexium fixes all. Ever since I started to experience anxiety as a late teen, it would always be in combination with either heartburn or nausea. This went on for years until heartburn and nausea caused by food would trigger anxiety, they became synonymous. I took antacid Rennie for 4 years and Gaviscon for an additional 4 years. Eight years of taking up to 10 tablets a day! Finally, two years ago, I started taking Nexium, 1 pill a day, no side effects, no anxiety. Blood work is fine. Nexium saved my life!"

For GERD "I've been on Nexium off and on for about ten years now. Depending on how it was covered under my insurance, I had to go off it at times since it was not covered. I have tried Protonix, Prilosec, and Prevacid (30 mg daily and 30 mg 2x a day). Prevacid gave me horrible diarrhea. Nexium has been the best. My latest insurance company wanted me to try Dexilant for a month before covering Nexium. Basically, one 60 mg Dexilant is like taking two 30 mg Prevacids. It didn't do anything but give me a cold after a month, and lots of diarrhea. I always come back to the Nexium. When things improve, I wean off it, taking it once every other day for a while to get off of it. I have been getting my calcium and magnesium levels checked every 6 months, always normal."

For GERD "I had gastritis and was put on Nexium. After 2 months, still a lot of pain due to dairy, sugar, etc. (tasty foods). So I assumed that I still have gastritis! Soon after, I had a gastroscopy, and they found nothing. The doctor misdiagnosed me with IBS. So I took matters into my own hands. So I read online about the interaction Nexium could be causing. I hypothesized that perhaps this pain from foods is because of low acidity because proton pumps reduce acidity. It made sense! How can I eat chunky foods when my body does not have enough juices in my body to break it down due to Nexium! So, I got off Nexium the next morning, felt a burning sensation (takes time for your stomach to adjust). Instead of Nexium, I reached for bicarbonate soda and water. The acidity went away. I reached for the milk and tomato sauce, and was able to drink and digest it like a boss! I could not believe what I was experiencing! The problem was Nexium! Fact: Nexium causes hypersensitivity to the stomach in some people."

For GERD "So I was taking Nexium 40 mg. I took it for a month. It didn't really work. I kept taking it thinking that maybe it takes time, but all I can say is it made my anxiety worse! Every morning my ears were ringing so loud, and my head felt fuzzy. I hated that feeling! I would feel chest pains as well. My GI doctor said that was from heartburn, but honestly, I knew it was the Nexium. I still keep taking it like a dummy because people I knew had a great experience with this med. In the end, I threw them away. Everyone is different, and this for me was just toxic. Try it out and see how it goes. It works for some people."

For GERD "I was put on this for GERD and to heal my esophagus for an upper GI. I was only on it for a few weeks before I was hit out of nowhere with crippling stomach cramps and diarrhea that lasted for hours. My hands were shaky and would go numb, which they had never done before. This happened twice, each a week apart before we discovered the pill was behind it. Once I stopped taking it, every symptom stopped: the shakiness and numbness, cramping, and diarrhea all stopped. This pill had no effect on my GERD either, it just created misery for me. I still do not know why I got such a reaction from this pill."

For GERD "Although it seems to work for my mother, for me, I had weird symptoms. I was only on the generic brand for 5 days before I had to stop taking the pills. I did not notice any difference in my actual reflux, but apparently, it heals your esophagus and reduces the amount of acid. My symptoms included: complete exhaustion even though I was getting the same amount of sleep and doing the same things during the day as before, I constantly had a dull ache in my stomach, I had a muscle spasm in my left arm for 2 days straight, constipation, feeling sick and completely unmotivated to do anything, I lost my appetite and hardly ate at all, I was easily hurting myself from barely moving (mostly in my back), extremely weak, headache, and swollen lips."

For GERD "I have been on Nexium for several years, and it works well for me. However, my last bone density test showed some bone loss. My blood tests revealed low vitamin D, now taking supplements. This morning, my doctor's office called and said I need to come off Nexium, extended use can cause reflux acidity that worsens the condition. Waiting to hear what he recommends. Will be coming off Nexium."

For GERD "I've been taking Zegrid and Prilosec for years. I'm one week into Nexium, and I feel way better! Whenever I drink something, I feel awesome. No more little bit of discomfort. I'm amazed! Haven't had GERD, gas blockage in my chest, or gallbladder issues. I feel normal drinking cold and warm. I haven't tried a soda yet, but I did have half a beer, and the bubbles did not bother me at all! It's been years since 2007. I'm so happy, and Nexium, I thank you."

For GERD "Nexium has been very effective in resolving my acid reflux. I have been taking the medication for over five years and now have to stop the medication. My bone density test showed third statistical deviation (3T), which reports that I have osteoporosis. I have been taking calcium and supplements with exercise for almost all my life, and it's hard to believe I have this disease. Nexium blocks the absorption by the body, thus the problem."

"I took Nexium 40 mg for 3 weeks. At the beginning, it was fine, my acid reflux was fixed, but side effects were terrible, such as depression, anxiety, tremor, diarrhea, back pain, and general feeling of sickness. Dizziness during the day. This is my 3rd day off from Nexium 40 mg, back pain is gone, but still feeling dizzy from time to time. Does anyone know how long these side effects last? Thank you."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I've been on Nexium, 40 mg, one per day for about 4 years. I don't really watch my diet like I should, but I've had no issues at all, never any throat burn like I had prior to Nexium. I do have Barrett's and should be more careful about the foods I eat, but I don't eat a lot of anything, that helps. I do drink coffee sometimes, tomato-based sauces, etc. I don't seem to have side effects from Nexium."
