Esomeprazole for GERD "Nexium was moderately effective at reducing my GERD symptoms, but the side effects made it not worth taking. I had trouble sleeping, felt very lethargic and fatigued, found it difficult to think through complex problems (which, in my job, is a serious concern). I felt constantly run-down and had no energy, but could not get a good night's sleep."

Esomeprazole for GERD "I took Nexium for 14 days for GERD problems...first week noticed a difference in my GERD symptoms. The only side effect in my first week with Nexium was diarrhea. In the second week, my side effects got bad...every day headache day and night, feeling tired all day, muscle pain in my back, my shoulders, my neck, and my cheekbones, trouble falling asleep at night...hope all these bad side effects go away soon."

Esomeprazole for GERD "I’ve been suffering from GERD since January. After being in the hospital, I was prescribed 40 mg Nexium. It worked, however, I had terrible side effects such as severe fatigue, muscle weakness, and mild hallucinations because of exhaustion. I then decided to take the natural road, which helped to a point, however, I was still suffering quite intensely. A month ago, I decided to succumb to my fear of trying the OTC Nexium. By day 4, I was better, by week two, I was clear of all of my symptoms. I feel great, happy, energetic, and grateful. Nothing more painful than watching your friends enjoy foods and drinks you can’t eat. I never thought the pain would end, and I’m so happy that I’m well again. I’m still on a low acidic diet because my aim is to come off the medication. I still think it’s important to find the root cause of your GERD and learn natural ways to heal your body. For now, Nexium has saved me."

Esomeprazole for GERD "In 2014, I was diagnosed with H. Pylori, which was eradicated successfully. In 2019, diagnosed with chronic gastritis, I was prescribed Nexium 40 mg for the first month and 20 mg for five months. It worked so well that I started eating things I was not able to eat before. I was so happy until I developed side effects that I never thought were from Nexium. They were stomach ache, diarrhea, constant nausea feeling, pain in my back and between shoulder blades, headache that would come on from little sound, like someone coughing, and extreme fatigue. When my periods started, I had nightmare cramping, I was vomiting, runny tummy all day, and excruciating pain. I couldn't sit, lie down, or walk. I was literally rolling on the floor with pain, and I never suffered from period pains before. I decided to go off it. I am on my first day. The stomach pain and the shoulder pain subsided, the fatigue almost completely gone. I had little diarrhea and tummy ache. I am hoping all this will be gone and will go back to normal. PPIs are a bittersweet pill."

Esomeprazole for GERD "Taking for the first time, started 6 days ago, and it is not helping and seems to be making the condition worse. Lots of swallowing, stomach noises, dry cough, and lack of energy. Disappointed. Is it safe to just discontinue use?"

Esomeprazole for GERD "Omg, I am so glad I found this website!! I took Nexium 20mg 24hr for 2 weeks, then my GI put me on 40mg, and after taking it for 1 week, I thought I was going crazy with all these horrible side effects such as anxiety, muscle twitches, bloating, belching, insomnia, heart palpitations, and much more!! Ended up in the ER, did an ultrasound and bloodwork, and nothing came up, so they must have thought I was faking it. It raises my blood pressure, makes me so fatigued that some days I couldn’t even get out of bed. My mouth and eyes were so dry, brain fog, and confusion…. Just HORRIBLE!! I’m so glad I went on here and found all these reviews, I will stop taking it!"

Esomeprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Being on this medicine for the first 5 days was hard, felt sicker than ever with symptoms of mild diarrhea, some hives, worst nausea, fatigue. This started to improve day 6. After being on it for a week, am almost back to normal. Felt like the drugs had to work on the H. Pylori, then the body had to work on getting the drug out of the body."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I'd taken this in the past but didn’t realize it could’ve been why I’d been having so many awful symptoms. This time I was feeling better when I started it, so I definitely noticed. I was having super bad fatigue, it was hard to get up in the morning or make it through the day, anxiety and racing thoughts, hair loss, diarrhea, generally just feeling super awful and unwell. I stopped taking it last night and actually felt like I could wake up today. I’d had to switch to caffeine pills, and those stopped working, I was worried I’d have to get back on Ritalin for fatigue before I put it together and realized it was this, and I’m glad I did."

Esomeprazole for GERD "I'm 60 years old, 8 stone, and really careful what I eat, but for weeks on end, I'll get GERD. It takes its toll and gets me down. I've tried lots of meds, including nearly all the PPIs available. They all have side effects for me, but Nexium was clearly the worst. It's a drug that actually worked well, cured the GERD, but I've given up with it as I get headaches, dry mouth, tinnitus, twice as bad as normal, and a fatigue like I have flu. The best of the worst for me is Rabeprazole. It's a debilitating illness that, when you're doing nothing to aggravate it, flares up. I'd have an operation if there was one available, but the doctors never give this as an option, just keep prescribing these strange drugs that make you feel dreadful."

Esomeprazole for GERD "I took 20 mg for about a year. Heartburn was gone, but at what cost? Painful joints and hips, fatigue. Feeling lousy. Look up what the recent studies are saying about liver damage. This medicine starves your body of nutrients like calcium and magnesium, which are highly essential. This can affect your bones. Also, the low stomach acid creates a friendly environment for nasty bacteria that attack your organs. I have had my last dose of this very dangerous drug. Do your research and be aware."

Esomeprazole for GERD "Was given Nexium 40 mg for GERD. First week was great. Felt relief after 3 days. Second week it stopped working as well and nasty side effects. The worst being anxiety (crying all day), painful muscle cramps, and it made my chronic pain (fibromyalgia) worse! But also insomnia, stomach pain, headaches, trembling, watery diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, weakness, and fatigue. I'm asking the doctor tomorrow for something else. Never taking this again."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Let's begin with the positive aspects of the drug. It does reduce the frequency of GERD flare-ups and the constant acid reflux spilling into your throat, in addition to mitigating the concomitant shortness of breath. This condition is very difficult to deal with, so reducing the symptoms is a welcome relief. However, the cost of this is nigh on intolerable. Here were my side effects: constant loose stools, and when you're already suffering from IBS-D, this is not remotely helpful. Agonizing stomach cramps, which last all day and are even worse when you're hungry. I'm not kidding when I say it literally feels like you're being punched in the stomach from the inside. Interrupted sleep, I would keep waking up in the middle of the night. Brain fog and general fatigue. And if you're prone to depression and anxiety, this medication will absolutely amplify that to the nth degree. Not worth it, and I'd suggest looking for alternatives, but your mileage may vary."

For NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer "I’m glad to see these reviews, I thought I was going insane. I have been taking esomeprazole for the past 7 days, and I have been experiencing weird side effects. My doctor thinks I may have created an ulcer from all the pain relievers from when I had COVID and prescribed me this medication also for all the acid reflux, and it hasn’t been easy. I have been getting a lot of nausea, lack of appetite, really bad back pains, constipation, heart palpitations, fatigue, and even shortness of breath. Sometimes I get a dry mouth, and I have to drink tons of fluids and still feel like I’m not drinking enough. I thought it was maybe the ulcer, if I even do have one, causing all of this, but reading the reviews and putting it all together, it seems like it is the medication. I keep feeling really sick right after I take it. I want to stop taking it and try something else, but my doctor still hasn’t called me."

For GERD "I was prescribed esomeprazole for gastric inflammation caused by alendronic acid (to treat osteoporosis). At first, I was happy with this drug as I was once again able to eat a fairly normal diet. However, as the weeks have passed, I have been feeling increasingly unwell. I have felt extremely fatigued, and it is getting worse by the day. I now have sore muscles and aching joints. After spending months walking for half an hour to an hour every day, I now don't have the energy to shift myself. I read the patient leaflet for side effects and was given the impression that these symptoms are extremely rare, so I had started to believe it was not the drug but something wrong with me...until I saw this site! Thanks, folks! I no longer feel alone and like a hypochondriac. It was so helpful to read of people suffering similar symptoms. I will no longer be taking this medicine. Thanks again, folks."

Esomeprazole for GERD "Thank you, thank you!! I thought I was going crazy!!!!! Massive anxiety attacks, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, massive headaches, worst cramps ever... so many ED visits, so many doctors' visits, ultrasounds, stress tests! My doctors thought I was a hypochondriac, that I was faking it... they put me on so many prescriptions! So I decided to go off all my medications. I have felt the best for the last few weeks until yesterday when I got heartburn, so I took my Nexium tablet... within 30-40 mins I was laying in bed so bloody sick! Blood pressure was up, headaches kicked back in, massive fatigue. So I googled and found this review pages! I have now chucked out my tablets and I'll find something else to stop the heartburn! Thank you, thank you!!"
