Esomeprazole for GERD "I was put on Nexium 40 mg daily 8 months ago for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It has nearly killed me. I thought I was developing MS as every muscle twitches and spasms, my skin itches, I have involuntary movements, and worst of all, I've got such an acutely dry mouth that I can no longer even eat. I've gone from a healthy person with GERD to an invalid. Finally, my now critical illness has been found to be a reaction to the buildup of Nexium in my body over 8 months. I've been told to stop it immediately. Now I can no longer take any PPI and have such an increased acid flow that I don't know what will become of me. How come this killer drug doesn't come with a strong warning? And why don't the doctors warn you?"

Esomeprazole for GERD "I took one Nexium and had some frightening neurological or central nervous system response. I was trembling uncontrollably, broke out in a cold sweat, was weak, and nauseous. It terrified me! The only other time I have had a reaction like this was to a flu shot. I will never take either again!"

Esomeprazole for GERD "I have taken Nexium a few times in the past and didn't realize that it was causing so many side effects until recently. I went back on it last week and started having terrible shakes, anxiety, nervousness, I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. I stopped taking the Nexium after I knew that's what was causing my mood changes and anxiety. I had the same symptoms a few summers ago from taking it. I will find something else for GERD, Nexium is not worth it. I'm just wondering how long this anxiety will last? It's not going away in a few days as it did before. UGHHHHHH"

Esomeprazole "I took Nexium 40 mg for 3 weeks. At the beginning, it was fine, my acid reflux was fixed, but side effects were terrible, such as depression, anxiety, tremor, diarrhea, back pain, and general feeling of sickness. Dizziness during the day. This is my 3rd day off from Nexium 40 mg, back pain is gone, but still feeling dizzy from time to time. Does anyone know how long these side effects last? Thank you."

Esomeprazole for GERD "I was put on this for GERD and to heal my esophagus for an upper GI. I was only on it for a few weeks before I was hit out of nowhere with crippling stomach cramps and diarrhea that lasted for hours. My hands were shaky and would go numb, which they had never done before. This happened twice, each a week apart before we discovered the pill was behind it. Once I stopped taking it, every symptom stopped: the shakiness and numbness, cramping, and diarrhea all stopped. This pill had no effect on my GERD either, it just created misery for me. I still do not know why I got such a reaction from this pill."

Esomeprazole for GERD "Omg, I am so glad I found this website!! I took Nexium 20mg 24hr for 2 weeks, then my GI put me on 40mg, and after taking it for 1 week, I thought I was going crazy with all these horrible side effects such as anxiety, muscle twitches, bloating, belching, insomnia, heart palpitations, and much more!! Ended up in the ER, did an ultrasound and bloodwork, and nothing came up, so they must have thought I was faking it. It raises my blood pressure, makes me so fatigued that some days I couldn’t even get out of bed. My mouth and eyes were so dry, brain fog, and confusion…. Just HORRIBLE!! I’m so glad I went on here and found all these reviews, I will stop taking it!"

For GERD "This medicine is toxic. After weeks of stopping my medication, I now have: 1. Muscle twitching 2. Nerve problems 3. Back, leg, and shoulder pains (although my leg and shoulder pain have decreased) 4. Weight loss (I managed to recover my lost weight) 5. Vision problems (although I think it has something to do with a wrong prescription for glasses) 6. Anxiety/Panic Attacks. I do not recommend taking this drug. If you want to reduce your stomach acid, I recommend Gaviscon and other antacids. NEVER USE PPIs."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I have an anxiety disorder and was prescribed this a few days ago for acid reflux. I feel like my anxiety has gone through the roof, I feel terrible, and I'm wondering if it is this drug now that I read all of your comments! I will stop it immediately. I have a fast heartbeat, shaking, and my hands are hot, and a headache. :("

Esomeprazole for GERD "Was given Nexium 40 mg for GERD. First week was great. Felt relief after 3 days. Second week it stopped working as well and nasty side effects. The worst being anxiety (crying all day), painful muscle cramps, and it made my chronic pain (fibromyalgia) worse! But also insomnia, stomach pain, headaches, trembling, watery diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, weakness, and fatigue. I'm asking the doctor tomorrow for something else. Never taking this again."

For GERD "I have had a hiatus hernia for many years, but it hasn't caused that many problems until about two years ago. The doc prescribed me everything under the sun, including Omi, Panto, Lanso, and Esomeprazole. By far, the worst of these was Esomeprazole, I experienced all of the bad stuff that people have given reviews about. I stopped taking Esom for a while, but the heartburn kept coming back, so I went back on it yesterday. Big mistake! After two hours, I had delusions, lower right side back pain, bloating, shakes, headache, chest pain, diarrhea, dizziness, I felt like a heart attack was going to happen (anxiety). Believe me when I say this medicine is an absolute nightmare! It may be alright for a few people to cure their acid reflux, but you get a whole new set of problems with it, which is far worse. A lot of people are on this for more than 14 days via docs' prescriptions, that's like a death sentence! It is still being sold as a wonder drug online and in chemists and supermarkets as well! Steer clear!"

Esomeprazole for GERD "I’m from England. I thought I was losing my mind, but I have had health issues with this acid reflux, belching all the time, so I tried all these medications. I started to get upset all the time, have bad nervousness. My stomach has issues, sleeping issues, bad shakes, headaches. I tried to talk to someone, and all they do is look at you like you’re losing your mind. Then, on top of that, I had unexplained seizures. The last time I had one was two years ago, and I was better. I thought great, I can go for my car license back, but I started to have issues again with belching. I was then given Nexium, I was on it for a day, then back to two seizures, then a rash on the side of my face, then I passed out at work. They did my blood pressure, and that was so high that I thought I was going to have a heart attack, so they kept me in over Christmas. I knew I was not losing my mind. People, be careful."

Esomeprazole for GERD "Omagh, let me start by saying I've only been on this for 14 days. Since then, I've been to nine doctor's appointments, 3 of these were different ERs because I was having heart/panic attacks! I'm 27 years young, healthy as a lark. Every doctor swore that this wasn't the problem, that I had nothing at all wrong with me - anxiety, twitching, sweating/freezing, very moody, VERY bad gas, sharp pains in chest and upper and lower back, abdomen hurting, confusion, foggy vision. This is insane. I had to figure it out on my own. Guys, I have never had any side effects from any medications. I have never ever felt this awful in my life. Just imagining me being as young and healthy as I am, what this is doing to others. Just know, your doctors/nurses will tell you that you're crazy and causing panic attacks and anxiety on your own. It's a lie. This medication was UNBELIEVABLY TOXIC for me. It did stop my heartburn 100%, but I'd rather have heartburn than $100,000 in medical bills."
