For Insomnia "On two separate nights, took 50 mg: slept for 3-4 hours, then wide awake at 3 am, and mood felt low, not a nice feeling. Tried again on another night and had one of the most horrific nightmares I’ve ever had and haven’t had a nightmare for years before now, rarely ever get them. Now don’t want to sleep as don’t want another nightmare, and mood feels horrible. Won’t take these again."

For Insomnia "Works great for me and my family. Tired and able to sleep within 30 minutes. I wake up feeling rested. For all those people saying it doesn't work, it just doesn't work for them. I'm sure there isn't a product that exists that works for everyone."

For Insomnia "Diphenhydramine is a fantastic sleep aid, but you need to follow the dosage very, very carefully. I've struggled with insomnia since basically puberty, and a few years back I began taking ZzzQuil daily. I slowly grew a tolerance to it and increased my dosage eventually to 100 mg. One night I was so fed up with tossing and turning, I took another 100 mg (I was 19, OK?). An hour later I was watching the walls ripple like the surface of a pond, little black dots crawling up the walls here and there, and full-blown auditory hallucinations. (I.e., I heard orchestra music coming from the bathroom vent fan amidst its hum). I felt like my body was made of lead and was horribly lethargic. Still, after tossing and turning for hours, I eventually made it to sleep and felt as if I was awake the entire time. My roommate said I talked in my sleep the entire duration of my slumber, and my dreams were very vivid and unsettling. I felt like a train wreck the next day until I could finally go home and sleep."

For Insomnia "I usually work a 10 hr shift in the afternoon, but my boss has changed my Saturday shift to 5 am-1 pm. We live on a farm and have 3 outside dogs that like to bark at night. The first morning shift, I only got 2 hrs sleep because of our dogs. I purchased ZzzQuil to get some help falling asleep the night before my morning shifts. I took the recommended dose (2 pills) at 8 pm. I went to bed at 8:30. I didn't feel any effect from the medication until almost 10:30!! And then I woke up again at 12:30 am! I do not recommend ZzzQuil if you want to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep."

For Insomnia "I have taken Sominex for a few days now and still wake up after 2-3 hours of sleep and can't get back to sleep again. I am so tired. Yet I can fall asleep in the chair really easily in the day. I was hoping Sominex would work, but so far it really hasn't."

For Insomnia "Couldn’t believe the effect these things had! Rather than falling asleep, I was irritated, restless, and slept almost zero minutes all night. Never again. Save your money, not only does this product not help you sleep, but achieves the exact opposite!"

For Allergic Reactions "I was given Benadryl at the hospital for an allergic reaction. It instantly shot my heart rate up to 217 bpm, and instantly my mouth got dry. I couldn't swallow, my chest felt hot, like an elephant was sitting on it, and I got really cold. It put me into shock, my body wouldn't stop shaking, I could breathe. It was so scary, I thought I was dead. Thanks to the doctor's quick response, he saved me, but it almost killed me."

For Allergic Reactions "So I've been taking this going on 2 years now, and I regret taking it so long. I even ended up in the ER because my heart wouldn't stop racing, it was over 170. I believe it was due to the Benadryl. I ignored the side effect before I noticed that sometimes when I took it, my heart would beat funny, and it would be hard to catch my breath, but I kept taking it as it stopped my itchy throat, eyes, and mouth. Doctors at the ER found arrhythmia but said everything else looked fine. I stopped taking it, haven't taken it in a week, and I'm still having a racing heart and palpitations. Don't take this stuff long term. I'm in my early 20s and healthy if anyone reading this was curious."

For Insomnia "Have trouble getting to sleep and then wake and can’t get back to sleep. Tried Nytol, followed the instructions exactly, and am wide awake at 3 am, having gone to bed at 11 and not been able to sleep. Worse off than when I don’t take anything. Complete waste of money!"

For Insomnia "Don't use this medicine if you have any history of mental health issues. Took me so long to realize this was making me so mentally ill, I was as close to committing suicide as I ever have been while taking this at a dose of 50 mg. Gave me serious shaking leg syndrome, but that I could deal with. The next day, I was so knocked out I almost didn't feel alive, the worst feeling I have ever had. I am so happy I read about antihistamines and how they affect the brain, they should be illegal. Crazy drug, but hey, someone's making a profit, so oh well! P.S. This is my experience. My mother uses Nytol and has no problem with it whatsoever, so I'm just pointing out to be careful, please."

For Insomnia "Beware!!! Had the worst night of my life. Hallucinated and ended up calling 911 to get to the hospital. My doctor confirmed it is the worst over-the-counter hallucinogen on the market. I have no idea how this is still available."

For Insomnia "Works for me in the same manner all the above have stated. Be aware, though, it is intended for occasional use, not nightly use. Its active ingredient is basically Benadryl, the same as in many allergy meds. If you check ingredient labels rather than going by the brand name, you may be able to find a bargain."

For Allergic Reactions "My adult-sized teenage son was given Benadryl IV, 50 mg, along with Compazine IV as a 'headache cocktail' in an emergency room in September of 2016. While there is no way to know for certain if Compazine or Benadryl caused the severe reaction he experienced, he has tolerated oral Benadryl just fine in the past. However, it seems important to share our experience based on the severity of his reaction that day and that multiple reports of similar exist. I do not recommend the 'headache cocktail' of Benadryl and Compazine together and hope the number of similar reports is looked into."

For Allergic Reactions "A little-known and rare side effect of this drug is a condition that would probably be called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). This describes a serious depletion of platelets in the blood. The blood will not clot properly, and an injury can be life-threatening due to uncontrolled bleeding. It's rare, but if it happens and the cause is not figured out by your physician(s), this is a big problem."

For Allergic Reactions "I have severe allergies and life has been miserable. I couldn't afford the time or money anymore for allergy shots. Claritin stopped working. So did a bunch of over-the-counter allergy medications. I took so many cough and zinc lozenges my tongue became sore. I coughed all the time, to the point of stomach pain and incontinence. My coworker just gave me Benadryl. I was on the verge of going home sick, but now I'm 100% better. A stress rash that was erupting on the back of my neck just now went away. This is a marvelous product, and I didn't know it had so many uses."

For Insomnia "Basically, Nytol didn't work and had the opposite effect by keeping me awake, but I had a weird reaction too, as it made me feel fairly sick while I was lying in my bed, and that happened both times I took it. So it's into the bin with these tablets. I would be very cautious about taking this product, as most of the reviews are bad."

"My last 2 nights taking Nytol had the opposite effect on me. Took them to help me sleep for work. I normally doze off at 3 with my insomnia, with Nytol, it was 6 or 7. Missed two days of work. Won't be taking these again."

For Insomnia "Took a half tablet about an hour before bed. Slept just short of nine hours and probably could have turned over and got a bit more but forced myself up. Felt a bit drowsy for a short time, but a lot better than I usually do after my normal 5-6 hours. I would strongly recommend you start at half a tablet and work your way up if necessary, as if half a tab does what it did, I'd hate to see what the manufacturer recommended two would do. Would give this a ten but should always leave room for improvement."

For Allergic Reactions "I have taken Benadryl or its generic equivalent for many years. It is very good for itchy throats and ears and all kinds of symptoms, and particularly good for sneezing. If the Benadryl doesn't work, then I know I'm coming down with something more than just seasonal allergies. I try to keep Benadryl with me all the time. There are so many food products that I am supposed to be allergic to that sometimes I take Benadryl before I eat, especially peanut butter and bananas, two of my favorite foods."

For Insomnia "As an ex-drug addict, I've tried many things to help me sleep that are non-prescriptive. Promethazine (Sominex) does work, but the vivid dreams are horrendous, so be ready for wild nightmares. This was a symptom that is very common and does not seem to wear off the more you take, so be warned!"

Total waste of money and time, and now can’t take anything else tonight as this is in my system! Would have been better to take one of the others in the first place."

For Insomnia "Have been taking Nytol for 2 weeks now since severe flu knocked my sleep pattern out, having no effect at all, it is absolute rubbish. Don't make me feel sleepy at all, if anything, the opposite - spend many hours awake staring at the clock! Have tried taking one early in the evening and one before bed as advised, still doesn't work... Oh, and they smell funny and taste even worse, they are going in the bin - waste of money."

For Insomnia "I'm in constant pain as waiting to be called in for hip replacement, so just cannot sleep. Also, even though I'm tired, my brain just will not turn off. SOMINEX is a brilliant over-the-counter pill that lets me sleep ALL night. I take half to one pill when I go to bed, as I like to read before sleeping. I start feeling relaxed and ready to sleep after about an hour, and then before I realize it's morning. I wake up fine with no problems at all. I shall continue taking these - I'm 70 years of age - till I meet my maker."
