For Narcolepsy "Along with narcolepsy, I've also been diagnosed with ADHD. I have been taking Dexedrine for the last 4 years. At first, it was 5 mg tablets, which worked for a couple of months. As soon as my dose was increased to 10 mg spansules a day, my life has been so much easier since then. I can actually concentrate on one thing without wanting to quit in the middle and take a nap. Many side effects, including dry mouth almost every day, heart pounding, loss of appetite leading to weight loss, muscles twitching, and severe tiredness if I suddenly stop taking it."

For ADHD "My 15-year-old son, who has inattentive ADHD, was taking Adderall since 7th grade. He is now in 10th. For the longest time, he has been having anger issues, he is easily irritated by other students talking in class, noise on the bus, and his 7-year-old sister. I was desperately searching online for meds to help with anger with ADHD and ASP and found this site. Reading all the comparisons of Adderall and Dexedrine, others having the same situation and most improving on the Dex, I hoped that his problem was the Adderall. Went to the doctor, told her all of the above. She seemed a little skeptical about it but was willing to give it a try. I don't want to jinx myself or my son, but so far, so good, it even helped my sister with homework."

For ADHD "My daughter is now nine and has been on Dexedrine for about four and a half years. I know about the med from my little brother, and it worked for him. My daughter's doctors wanted to try all the new stuff, not one worked, so once again, I said put her on Dexedrine. Finally, after about a year, they put her on it, and she is doing great on a low dose. So if you have tried the others, go old school and use Dexedrine, it works :)"

For ADHD "I used Ritalin for many years before realizing it had little or no effect on me. I think the placebo effect applied not only to me, but also to my parents and teachers. Upon finding out that it's quite common for some patients to have their medication switched 2-3 times before finding one that works, I decided to try Adderall (which worked amazingly, but gave me insomnia), Concerta (which didn't work on me, since it's basically the same as Ritalin), and finally settled on Dexedrine, which I don't know how I ever lived without. Of all the ADD medications I tried, it was head and shoulders above the rest as far as effectiveness and had the fewest side effects (which were barely noticeable and disappeared after a couple of weeks)."

For Narcolepsy "Helps a great deal with daytime sleepiness, which I had all my adult life until Dexedrine. No side effects at 5 to 7.5 mg a day. At 10 mg sometimes anxiety or tension, but not always. No rebound effect or depression if I stop taking it. Not the dangerous drug some people would have you think."

For ADHD "Got this for ADD and my chronic fatigue. It changed me. Grades in school went from 60s to 80s, I could actually focus long enough to plan my life and pay attention. Only problem I had was the tolerance. Although my dosage was raised and now I can take it regularly without feeling it, it made it really hard to sleep if I took it too late, and if the dosage is too high, or you are just starting, you get a really unpleasant buzz. Even though that buzz makes you super motivated and lets you get stuff done, it makes it really hard to relax and makes you more prone to panic attacks."

For Drowsiness "There is no material in the side effects list that you may have a hard time with Novocaine. My dentist spent hours trying to figure out why he could not get me numb before he made the connection. Be forewarned that this is a potential problem. This drug, all in all, has improved the quality of my life drastically. Seven years and topped at 90 mg. I hit tolerance a long time ago, but it still does what it was designed to do. I am not looking for a high, I am looking for a life with alertness, and this medicine has given me that. I personally trust this older proven medication."

For ADHD "I am 39 years old and have been suffering from ADD my whole life. It wasn't until recently that I finally figured out what it was. After trying Ritalin, which didn't agree with me, and Adderall XR, which made me irritable, anti-social, and too engaged, I read the reviews of this and decided to give it a whirl. I'm only on week 1, but compared to the others, I am MUCH more myself with no anxiety! Also, I am shocked at how low of a dose gets the job done. I am on 5 mg once daily around noon. You may think you need more, but start low and see how much changes right before your very eyes. You get plenty done and still wind down after 4 hours. I sleep great, and my appetite is only affected the first 3 hours. I didn't give it a 10 because of some memory issues."

For ADHD "I take 15 mg three times a day along with Ritalin 20 mg three times a day, and I am so glad my doc found this combo! I'm 36 and extremely overweight, and I got the get up and go that I never had, and the help to keep my mind on very important things and people in my life, like my kids!"

For ADHD "By far the best medication I have tried for ADHD. It is great for someone who also has social anxiety or anxiety in general. With Ritalin, I had many negative side effects, one of which is anxiety. Dexedrine is great. I do not even need to take my clonazepam (Klonopin) during the day because Dexedrine is so smooth."

For ADHD "I began treatment for bipolar 2 years ago. It has been successful. I still had severe brain fog, impatience, and lethargy, though. The psych doc diagnosed ADHD on top of bipolar. Tried Vyvanse, Ritalin, and Dexedrine. Dex won for me. 10 mg in the am and 5 at lunch and dinner. Much more patient and clear-headed."

For ADHD "It was a pain to get my Dexedrine prescription filled because most pharmacies don't carry it, and they have to order it. Compared to Adderall, Dexedrine is very calming since there's no levoamphetamine in the mix, just pure dextroamphetamine. Unfortunately, I was focusing on things that I wanted to do instead of the things I had to do (and what I worked on really made a difference). I would like to give it another try just to compare it to Adderall again."

For ADHD "Works well for my ADD, but DON'T ever mix with alcohol! I am an alcoholic who comes from an alcoholic background handed down several generations of my family tree. I take my Dex as prescribed (5 mg 3x daily, a small dose by choice compared to 45 mg 3x daily when I was younger and not in charge of my own health needs). But when I binge drank, I would always mix the alcohol with Dex, up to 50 mg a night so I could keep drinking. Lost many friends, a wife, and the respect of too many due to my actions, aggressions, combativeness, stances, and so on. Alcoholics, beware. I'm sober now and take it one day at a time. I still take my Dex but ONLY as prescribed. I am 35 and have taken it since age 12."

For Narcolepsy "Dexedrine is great, aside from the increased anxiety. I currently take 90 mg daily - both the 5 mg tabs and the 15 mg spansules. I require two 20-min naps/day but will still have sleep attacks if I'm inactive. It may not sound overly great, but without Dexedrine, I'd never leave my bed/couch, as I fall asleep every 10 mins. So essentially, it does a world of difference."

For ADHD "I have ADHD as well as binge eating. This helps me to not make impulsive decisions and I really can think a lot clearer. It really does increase the dopamine because I no longer have that intense urge to eat junk food and buy nice clothes. I can just focus better and I am not procrastinating everything. I used to procrastinate basic tasks like showering or brushing my teeth. It feels so good knowing I'm not lazy but just neurodivergent. And I'm so grateful for this medication. I'm on 10mg twice a day."

For ADHD "My experience is limited since I have only been on this medication for a few days. I am a medical resident, diagnosed with ADHD at 32. Got sick and tired of my mediocre performance at work. Tried Strattera, Viibryd, and Wellbutrin, nothing worked. Just started on Dexedrine 5 mg 2-3 times a day. My first day on it, I studied all day until midnight. I was so motivated, I felt great, on top of the world, I was so driven. I noticed an immediate difference in my performance at work, and it made me nicer, less cynical. The bad thing was insomnia, teeth clenching, some nausea, decreased appetite, and the drop in my mood once it wore off. I am worried about intolerance, which is driving up my anxiety level."

For ADHD "I have struggled with ADD for years and was put on a moderate dosage of Ritalin in high school. But it gave me anxiety like you wouldn't believe. I ignored my ADD after high school and started Dexedrine in college. What a difference! It helps me to focus much better and gives me the energy to finish what I start. My procrastination has never been lower. I only give it a 9 because I sometimes need to make myself focus when the meds are an hour or two from wearing off."

For ADHD "I have currently been taking Dexedrine spansules for 16 years, 90 mg a day. ADHD had ruined my life up until I was 36 years old. Now, all the standard symptoms are under control and have been since I started the medication. I would personally check with a good doctor if you are suffering with this disorder."

For ADHD "I have been on about 100 mg of Dexedrine for over 20 years, and it always worked great until a few years ago, when my drug company stopped sending me the TEVA generic. I never had problems with generics before, but the Activis brand did nothing for me. I was told that TEVA was made by the same drug manufacturer that makes the name brand, so I paid extra for the name brand, and that does not appear to be working either. I have been told that TEVA no longer makes Dexedrine, so I am not sure what I should do. Also, I was told that the FDA no longer allows doses over 60 mg, but I am not sure that is true. It could be my insurance company does not want to pay for more than a standard dose."

For ADHD "Was switched from Adderall XR to generic Dexedrine. I got an ineffective brand of Adderall (yes, some brands are better than others). The positive effects were gone and the negative effects were enhanced. My blood pressure was great, around 102-117 systolic and 75-85 diastolic, but my pulse was way too high, 110-130. For the most part, I loved Dexedrine, it worked very well, and without the L-Amphetamine in Adderall, my pulse rate was good, 85-102. My only complaint was that the length of time it worked was inconsistent. Some days it would last 45 minutes, other days it would last 2 hours. After speaking to my psych doc, we decided to switch to Vyvanse instead of having to take 3 or 4 Dexedrine pills a day. Other than the length of duration, this is great."

"This drug is incredible. Without this drug, I would not be able to work 45 hours a week. I went on a leave of absence until I got 20 mg. I crave sleep almost all the time when not on this drug. On the Dex, I can get up and get to work. It increases my energy level 3 out of 10. So a 4/10 becomes a 7/10. Which is my max (ok, rarely an 8). I have 1/10 days, usually 2 to 3 days a month, so I skip taking the Dex and sleep 15 hours. I shall add I get zero side effects, so I am very fortunate. The Dex is not a miracle, but it allows me to make $$ for my family. I enjoy working, and I also enjoy some free time. Without it, frankly, my life would be a disaster."

For Narcolepsy "After diagnosis, I was prescribed a few other medications with no success until Dexedrine. At first, I was prescribed the slow-release tablets, however, they conflicted with my schedule. I've been on Dexedrine for 25 years and have only increased my dosage once - from 40 mg to 45 mg. I have no doubts that the correct diagnosis and a good doctor literally saved my life."

For ADHD "This medication works really well for helping me feel more focused, and more energized as well. I don't feel sleepy while taking this medication, which is good because part of the reason I started taking it was due to excessive sleepiness that wasn't caused by any other medical problem. The slow-release capsule kept me awake for too long, so I didn't sleep so well at night though, so I switched to the short-acting version of this medication, and now I can be very alert for about 6 hours from one tablet of the short-acting tablet, and if I need another one, I can have one, but I usually don't take two in a day because I don't feel I need more than that. I do find that it makes me feel more confident, happy, and outgoing. It certainly helps me be more awake and attentive."

For ADHD "I have tried all the ADHD medications for my ADD, including Vyvanse, Adderall XR, Adderall, Concerta, and Focalin. Dexedrine 15 mg has been the way to go for me! Not too strong like the others, and helps me get my work done. Great medication, I was on Adderall XR 30 and felt like I couldn’t breathe. Definitely don’t recommend the others, as they were too strong and quite costly, as there were no generics available. Definitely recommend Dexedrine 15 mg!"

For Narcolepsy "Dexedrine was very helpful in treating my narcolepsy. It is dependable without making me nervous. I am able to have a better attention span, too! I can sit confidently at my desk or be in social situations and have confidence that I will not be falling asleep while someone is talking to me again! Dexedrine is a great medicine for narcolepsy."
