Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I am starting Farxiga 10mg in the morning, and after reading the reviews, I can honestly say I’m scared of it. I’m a nurse, and I always do my research when it comes to new drugs. Right now, I’m on metformin XR 2000mg in the morning. My last HbA1c was 8.4, which worries me. 5.4 is what I want it to read. I have had issues with yeast infections and UTIs since I was a young woman, and I hate getting them. I guess I have to try something. Wish me luck! I’ll be back with an update in a couple of weeks."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Started taking Farxiga about 3 weeks ago for the second time. The first time I quit was having terrible yeast infections after 2 weeks. This time I was prescribed Fluconazole along with Farxiga. Took one every week when I noticed the yeast infection was coming back. My husband noticed that he was finding my hair everywhere, and I just went to my hairdresser who asked if I was on a new medication as my hair was broken and the new growth was thin!! That's it, no more drugs. Have taken Metformin (horrible diarrhea & UTI) and tried all the new 'wonder drugs', all had bad side effects. Tired of being a guinea pig! Has any of the above contributors that lost hair had it grow back?"

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "After 1 1/2 weeks of taking Farxiga, I went into severe dehydration that included dizziness, being lightheaded, not being able to stand for more than a minute without feeling like I was going to faint, extreme shortness of breath, chest pain, pain in my lower back and sides, excessive thirst, and dry mouth. Luckily, my daughter has had medical training and recognized that I had severe dehydration. I had to begin immediate fluid replenishing as well as salt replacement. Farxiga is the only thing that had been changed about my regular schedule, and upon looking at the maker's website, we found that dehydration, kidney problems, increased bad cholesterol levels, and UTIs are just some of the regular side effects that go along with taking this."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Had a constant yeast infection and 3 urinary tract infections in the two months I was on it. I was so thirsty, I would drink a gallon of water at work. I urinated every 20 minutes. My bladder was sore if my belly was touched. I really tried and wanted this to work. I did lose about 12 pounds and had energy. But I was depressed from constant 'female issues'. It just got worse and worse. I took myself off this pill and am back on Metformin XR. Waiting to see my doc for the next plan of attack. This did not work for me."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I took Farxiga for 8 months. I ended up with numerous horrible urinary tract and yeast infections. So bad one time that it required an ER visit and missing work. At the end of the 8 months, my A1c went from a 6.7 to a 7.1. It didn't work at all for me, just made me miserable."

For Type 2 Diabetes "This drug has given me a UTI, a lengthy episode of thrush, and a genital infection. I have been taking it for 6 weeks. I have never suffered from any of these conditions before. I have not been able to speak to a doctor, despite daily calls to the surgery because this is not deemed serious. The practice nurse has tried to help and given me 3 days of antibiotics. This appeared to help the UTI but not the thrush or genital infection. The nurse would not advise me about stopping dapagliflozin. Said she is not a doctor. Seemed unable to understand that I desperately wanted to at least speak to a doctor. I feel that the infection that I have from front to back needs examining. That was why I have contacted the surgery for 4 days in a row. So, without speaking to a doctor, I am now told to pick up Canesten cream from the chemist tomorrow. I am paying to see a GP ASAP. For me, this drug has not been effective, and it has caused me harm."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Farxiga has wrecked havoc on me. I am a 52-year-old female. I took just 1 pill and immediately had issues with yeast, itching so bad to the point I was red and raw. Then, I stopped taking it to test if Farxiga was the cause. I started to take it again and immediately had the same symptoms. I started to show signs of vaginal bleeding and then dark urine and blood in urine. Now, a UTI from prolonged yeast infections and back pain, cramping. Had urgency to urinate and seemed like every 20 minutes running to urinate, sometimes not being able to make it. I have not had a period in a year and 5 months, and to see blood scared me to death. I was told that yeast and UTI can make you bleed vaginally. I stopped taking this drug again and am changing meds."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I was on this drug about 2 months when I developed a horrible UTI and ended up in the hospital, where it was also discovered that I had acute kidney injury. I have never had an issue with this before with any of the other diabetes medications I have tried, but I have been told it is the way the drug works. The bottom line is that it did nothing to control my glucose or A1C either."

For Type 2 Diabetes "This drug has been an absolute lifesaver for me. My levels were creeping up. I was petrified of needing insulin, and luckily the nurse at my GP surgery told me about this and said it can cause UTIs and the sick day rule and stopping it if you do get a UTI. I was scared reading the reviews but thought other drugs that have bad reviews I take, and I am fine on them, so thought I should give it a try. No side effects and no UTI, but I do drink lots of water every day, so I don’t know if this helps."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have started taking Forxiga 10 mg 6 months ago. I have a UTI, and I feel that my muscle power is getting weaker and weaker. I am skinny, and after taking this medicine, I became even skinnier. I continue to lose weight. It is horrible to me."

For Type 2 Diabetes "An experimental on the part of my doctor. Gave me samples to try Farxiga for 10 days. Let me tell you the good thing first: it lowers my sugar level. Bad things that happened to me: dizziness, dehydrated, UTI (I was so shocked to have this) and I'm so grumpy after taking Farxiga. Just now, the main doctor called me and told me about the urine test, and he said it was very high in infection and that antibiotics were ordered at the pharmacy for me to pick up. Told me to stop taking Farxiga and just continue with Metformin. So Metformin it is and my supplement to control sugar level. I have not taken antibiotics for really long years, and now with this Farxiga... the cons."

Dapagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "The medication states that you can get a UTI when using this drug. Well, guess what? I never had a UTI in my life until now. This happened two weeks after I started taking this. I am 66 years old, and I have always heard that once you get a UTI, you are susceptible to getting them on and off from that point on. Gee, thanks! UTIs left untreated can lead to dementia. I am going to talk to my doctor to find out what, if anything, I can do alternatively to lower my glucose level or otherwise see what the improvement turns out to be. I am also planning to get a Pap smear as well because it states that you can get a yeast infection, so I want to make sure I didn't get that as well! Besides these two things, the medication has some promising effects. Still too early to tell. I am conflicted in my opinion."
