Clonidine "We have recently switched from clonidine XR tablets to Onyda XR due to it being a liquid, so having more flexibility with dose adjustments. Going from 0.1 mg to 0.2 mg clonidine XR was way too sedating for her. Onyda XR also works 24 hours as opposed to the 12 hours, so it's given once a day at night. My 8-year-old ADHD girl has been doing so well on it. Her impulsivity is improved, so is her focus. Much less tears and much less frustration at school. She went from getting all her questions wrong to now telling me, 'I had another great day at school.' She sleeps better and overall has less anxiety. I wish I had tried this sooner. If you have commercial insurance, make sure you apply for coupons on the manufacturer's website, it brought it down from $288 to $27 for us."

"I was prescribed this for sleep, since I take Adderall in the morning and my job had gotten so crazy lately. I would come home and didn’t feel like I could actually relax. So I was prescribed a dose of 0.1 mg ER at bedtime. By the second time, my anxiety had gone through the roof, and I felt like if I fell asleep, I wouldn’t wake up! Some people tried to tell me that it was just in my head and that I should give it a chance, but I honestly think I’m too young to be taking a blood pressure medication, and I never want to feel that way again. Xanax felt safer than that medication..."

Clonidine "My son has used various stimulants for 5 years. Still struggling because of impulsivity and super high metabolism, the doctors wanted to add non-stimulants. We started with Intuniv, which dropped his blood pressure way too low (75/43), so we stopped after 2 weeks. Tried Clonidine IR, and it worked GREAT the first 2 days, then fine (not great, just fine). The doctor changed to Kapvay for long-acting effects, but we stopped after 2 weeks because he got awful insomnia (took 2-3 hours to fall asleep instead of his usual 15 minutes). Last night, we went back to Clonidine IR - he fell asleep quickly and slept great! I give Kapvay a 2 because it decreased his impulsivity a bit, but the insomnia was awful, he got more aggressive/emotional, and really affected him negatively."

"At first, it was fantastic. I actually was able to sleep well, and nothing could wake me up. About a year ago, though, I began having one notable side effect that was so hard to shake, and it occurred daily: morning sickness, but I am not pregnant. Every morning when I wake up, I am greeted back to reality by bouts of nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and exhaustion. It goes away in the afternoon, and then I’m fine at night, but it can get bad. I want to try to get off of clonidine as well, but I'm still in the final stages of discontinuing Seroquel, so it would be too hard on me. The withdrawals aren’t that bad if you miss a dose until you realize your blood pressure has spiked through the roof. My blood pressure on both Seroquel and clonidine was so low, and I have a feeling it’s not a great idea to prescribe neurodivergent and mentally ill patients with a medication. It’s not the worst med I’ve ever been on, but there are some side effects that have never gotten easier to shake."

"My son is diagnosed with autism and has behavioral acting out behaviors characteristic of ADHD. He is currently prescribed 0.05 mg of clonidine. I'm concerned that it's impacting his kidney function because his creatinine levels have been reported abnormal, so I'm very concerned about this. In regards to dryness, his eyes are excessively itchy, in conjunction with his allergies, and he has been having bouts of diarrhea lately as well, but also has a failure to thrive diagnosis."

"My son is 9 years old, and he takes clonidine for ADHD. He takes it twice a day - half in the morning and the other half at night. It made him really angry and saying really bad things. I tried telling the doctor to change the medication, but she does not want to, so instead of changing it, she gave me hydroxyzine for the anger. But now she gave me clonidine three times: half in the morning, half in the afternoon, and half at night."

"Well, my doctor boosted my ADHD medicine, Adderall XR, to 30 mg, and I have a hard time falling asleep even after a 14-hour workday. So he prescribed clonidine to counter my Adderall XR. Adderall helps me function at work really well. But my sleep disorder has worsened. I was taking Xanax and Ambien to sleep, but since I started Adderall XR, I had to stop taking the other two medications. What helps you sleep?"

"My autistic/ADHD son finally gets rest at night and is much more calm during the day. I was scared to put him on meds, so nice he is only 3, but it was for the best. So far, so good!"

Clonidine "It makes me sleepy during the day, but helps with the side effects of Wellbutrin (itching and stuttering). Helps me sleep at night, so it is doing something for me."

"I have ADHD combined type with tics. This helps with the tics, not 100%, but enough for me to get by, but makes me so sleepy, like if I fall asleep."
