For Anxiety "I have a prescription for clonidine 0.1 mg as needed for anxiety. It is SO helpful! I rarely take it, but when I do, it drastically reduces my anxiety, and it’s not a benzo, so it’s much easier to get a prescription for. I’d highly recommend it for anxiety. It does make me sleepy, but I like that. When I’m feeling anxious, I need that sedated feeling. It doesn’t make me feel zombie-level sedated, but I feel it enough to be able to get some sleep. Also, if you already have low blood pressure, I would not recommend it because it’s a blood pressure medication and could put you into dangerously low blood pressure if you’re not careful."

For Anxiety "I have used clonidine for panic attacks (episodic, severe facial sweating due to stressful situations). This medication has been extremely helpful, resolved the sweating immediately. I have tried lorazepam, which was also extremely effective, but my clinician informed me clonidine has lower risks. Beta blockers did not work at all."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking the drug clonidine for my blood pressure for going on three months now. It does mostly keep my blood pressure normal. I did have one spike one night. But if I sit up for a few minutes, my blood pressure goes back to normal. I decided to look at people’s reviews because I am having some 'side effects' and am concerned. My side effects are upper pain across my back, sometimes just behind my heart in my back. Also, anxiousness before my next dose is due. Also, some humming sound in my ears, or my heartbeat in my ears. Other minor things but mostly these are the major concerns. Any advice from anyone?"

Clonidine for Opiate Withdrawal "I was recently diagnosed with endocarditis, a deadly heart and blood infection due to being an IV heroin user. I needed to be on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks, but the fear of WDs kept me from staying in the hospital since the docs wanted me to go cold turkey. Finally, thanks to the dedication of my PCP, she was able to coordinate with a medical hospital to detox me and give me the IV therapy that I needed. Then, put me on suboxone to continue treating my addiction. But, in order to take the sub, I had to be heroin-free for at least 2 days. I was panicked about how bad the WDs would be. But, the addictionologist I worked with prescribed the clonidine (a patch and up to 3 doses orally a day), and I have to say it was a godsend. It got me through it."

For Insomnia, Stimulant-Associated "I have had insomnia in such a severe degree, it could not be worse. For nearly a decade, I was only able to get 10-12 hours of sleep every 7 days. There's not a sleep remedy the doctors haven't thrown at me (unsuccessfully). If I take 2-3 clonidine tabs, I sleep like a baby. I've recently discovered this. A little morning grogginess, but I'll take it. It's been awesome the last week getting some sleep! Thank you Lord!"

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I have been taking Clonidine for about 2 months for perimenopausal symptoms. Started at 25mcg twice daily, with a slight reduction in night sweats - then went back to my GP (I'm from the UK) and he issued more and I'm now prescribed two 25mcg twice a day. However, as mine are mainly night sweats - I've adjusted to one 25mcg in the morning and two 25mcg at night. This dose is working great for me and I am now free of night sweats and getting better sleep for longer. I would recommend this to all that are going through this horrendous time - only wish I had known about other non-hormonal options as I've had to suffer for over 10 years."

For Anxiety "I've found clonidine to be unparalleled at preventing anxiety of the restless and impatient type. i.e. the kind of anxiety that keeps me from sitting in one place. I take clonidine before any engagement where I must sit for a while, e.g., waiting rooms, courtrooms, and so on. Places where some patience is in order. Clonidine is the best for this. The only side effect is a very slight dry mouth, and that only happens sometimes."

Clonidine for High Blood Pressure "This is a very effective medication but with extreme side effects. It is very short-lived and requires dividing the prescribed dosage into 3 times a day to avoid blood pressure spikes. It leaves you feeling 'high' and sedated. Absolutely do not discontinue it abruptly. Stopping it abruptly causes your blood pressure to rebound even higher than it was before for several days. A better choice in this class is Guanfacine, which for me is even more effective and does not have the radical side effects."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Been on 0.1mg three times a day for 10 days now and it has made a HUGE difference in my detox from heroin, oxycodone, and hydromorphone. Almost completely eliminated the agitation and restlessness, which has always been my personal least favourite symptom of opiate withdrawal. I highly recommend anyone suffering from an addiction akin to mine to talk to a doctor about getting on it. I finally let my family doctor know about my 3 years of on and off use of various opiates, and it was his first suggestion. I am also on propranolol and amitriptyline, which I started at the same time as the clonidine. The only downsides I have experienced are a certain degree of daytime drowsiness and blood pressure drops upon standing up after lying down."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I have been on Clonidine for 2 months at 25mcg morning and night. I tend to have low blood pressure and low heart rate, so my GP wanted to be conservative. For me, it has revolutionized my life. I have suffered flushes for over 10 years and due to having had hormone-positive breast cancer, could not take any HRT. I have occasional flushes but nothing like I used to, and my anxiety associated with the flushing has also reduced. This was immediate. So grateful to have found this drug."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I am on a regular dose of Subutex and have been for 5 years. I had to have surgery and was put on Lortab 5 for pain, and I took the 20 that was given to me over an 8-day period. After my last Lortab, I started back taking my Subutex but found that it was not helping me. I found myself to be in withdrawal, and I was not feeling well at all. I was hurting all over, my nerves were bad, and I was just beside myself. I called my doctor who gives me Subutex, and he sent me Clonidine, and within an hour, I felt so much better. This drug really helped me to overcome this difficult time in my life."

Clonidine for Anxiety "Was prescribed this in conjunction with stimulant meds for ADHD but have found this really works well to relieve NAUSEA caused by ANXIETY. However, as this is primarily a Blood Pressure Medication, it can make you dizzy if you take too much. I have found it the best of any medication to treat the nausea and upset stomach Generalised Anxiety produces. Highly Recommended With Caution!"

For High Blood Pressure "Had high blood pressure and felt really scattered, hard to focus, couldn't meditate, anxiety, when trying to go to sleep at night, heart would beat really fast then skip a beat or two a few times, then would slow down, but heart rate was higher than it is now that I'm on clonidine. It has helped me to focus, to calm down, to meditate, just altogether my energy is much more positive and upbeat and happy. Everyone is different and responds differently to medication, but 0.1 mg of clonidine has for me made such a huge difference in my physiological and mental health, it seems like a miracle drug to me. Thank God my doctor put me on it."

For Opiate Withdrawal "After being addicted to narcotics on and off for many years, I finally, with the strength of my lord and savior, told doctors I am done. Withdrawals were horrible the first couple of days and nothing was helping. On day three of no narcotics and just started clonidine 0.1 yesterday. It works wonders but my only complaint is that I work full time so today I'm going to try just taking one at night. Kudos to all those kicking this awful narcotic addiction, God is so good!"

For High Blood Pressure "I struggle to find anything to help my BP as well, and have tried everything. Always so sensitive and have side effects that drastically affect my life. I tried this, and it helped at first. If you only took it once at bedtime, it might be okay, but I took it 2X like they said and fell asleep in meetings and at my desk. I could not function and took the first one right away since it was really high. I could barely drive back to work, then had to rest my head. It was awful. I have a job calling on customers and was not functional at all. Praying for a better option."

For Anxiety "Clonidine is excellent for performance and social anxiety. But I think it's crucial to get the dosage just right for your body weight & metabolism, so that one doesn't get unnecessarily sedated or have dry mouth. I only use clonidine every now & a blue moon (i.e., rarely), often before a situation or event where I'll need extraordinary patience. I take just 0.1 mg. for this purpose. It prevents nervous tremors of the hand, restlessness and sweating."

Clonidine for ADHD "My 7-year-old daughter has been on Concerta 18mg for a year. She started to tolerate that medicine, but I did not want to increase the dosage. My doctor recommended we add Kapvay to her current Concerta dose. This has made all the difference. She is no longer bouncing off the walls, jumping on the couch, or leaving halfway through a meal. She is engaged, focused, and less moody. Her emotions are more regulated, and we did not tell her teacher, but she even commented on the change without us sharing the news. We are so happy, and this medicine is worth the time it takes to condition to the sleepiness that happens in the initial 2 weeks. Hope the changes stay."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I took clonidine 25 micrograms, 2 tablets, 3 times a day 2 years ago and they worked so well that I stopped taking them, thinking all was okay. I have just recently started taking them again because the flushes and hot sweats came back with a vengeance 7 months ago and I was suffering. I am currently up to 3 tablets, 25 micrograms, 3 times a day. After 3 weeks, the flushes and sweating are finally starting to calm down. They worked for me before so I know they will work again; anyone taking clonidine should not stop taking them. If you do want to stop, you have to reduce the dose back down the same as you would increase it. Good luck, everyone. The struggle is real."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I was on opioids for a few years. I finally decided the only way to be free was to confess to my family and seek help. I had tried many times to quit, but the withdrawals were too much for me. I told my doctor what was going on, and she gave me clonidine. It took away all the symptoms. It took me a few nights to sleep because of restless legs syndrome, but it was a miracle for me. Also, very inexpensive!"

For Anxiety "I have been on clonidine for a year. At first, it made me sleepy, but after about 6 weeks, my only side effect was dry mouth, and I have to eat when I take clonidine. It has helped lower my blood pressure and my anxiety. Very happy with it."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Been on Opiates for 14 years for numerous health issues: lupus, fibromyalgia, neck and back surgery, gastric bypass surgery just to name some. Tried tapering, tried cold turkey, tried suboxone, didn't work. Went back to using more each time, was up to 35 Norco 10 a day in increments, of course, for the last 3 years. However, went in last week and got clonidine for the worst part of the withdrawals. Was given trazodone for sleep and Robaxin for RLS and back pain from the withdrawals. I also read about Elimidrol, a natural herb product. I haven't taken any Robaxin. I take 0.1 mg of clonidine every 8 hours, trazodone at night only, just 150 mg, and I only took Imodium the first day. I feel awesome, just energy a little low. Don't give up!"

For High Blood Pressure "Clonidine works very well in controlling blood pressure, but if you already suffer from slow-moving bowels, this medication makes it infinitely worse if you are taking more than 0.1mg. I finally had to switch medications due to chronic constipation on the drug. Side effects list that as an issue - my doctor said no, it doesn’t cause that. Well, it does."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Wanted to add a post to help convince those who do not know clonidine yet that it's the best thing ever. I'd been using heroin for years before switching to methadone. It was fairly easy to taper 5mg at a time until 20mg, where it became more and more painful/stressful - I'm now at 4mg. I didn't have a clue about clonidine until two months ago. I looked it up on the internet and talked about it with my physician, and he prescribed it to me. Then, the miracle happens: I switch from 5mg to 4mg, and 48h later at withdrawal symptoms onset, I only had to take 0.5mg of clonidine to avoid ALL withdrawal symptoms. I had no sweats, no anxiety, no chills, no pins and needles, no trashy feeling... TRY IT, no side effects noticed."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "Started 2 weeks ago, love this, no more hot flashes. I was having 20-40 a day, they were terrible. It took a few days to get over feeling a little tired and dizziness but now I'm fine. I'm 57 and have suffered for several years with horrible hot flashes, insomnia and etc. I thank my new ob-gyn, the difference in me is amazing."

For High Blood Pressure "Within two weeks my blood pressure came down from well over 200, 190s and 180s down to averages of 140s and below. Incredible because for several years, it was extremely high, and I had a stroke in my eye because of it. I'm thrilled with the results because no other medicine worked."
