Ciprofloxacin for Bacterial Infection "Been taking antibiotics for almost 3 months now, Cipro for 6 weeks for an apparently antibiotic-resistant infection. Started on Meropenem I.V. (don't know why if it's antibiotic resistant). I think doctors do whatever they can with the knowledge they have been given by these companies, which most don't even know of the side effects and say, don't believe everything you read on Google. But I had diarrhea straight away after the first pill (500 mg). I have also had tennis elbow, yet never played any tennis or golf. I have muscular pain in my shoulder, and it felt like it popped out or something almost a week ago. And only now I reread the symptoms and the reviews, I see others having this problem. I don't trust pharma companies, I want to stop taking now."

For Bronchitis "This antibiotic destroyed my life. I was given it at 71 years of age, with cortisone injections at the same time, both contraindicated for my age. Side effects were tendonopathy, ruptured tendon, chronic fatigue, balance gone, heart palpitations, peripheral neuropathy, and pain every day for three years to date. All this for a bout of bronchitis. I was wheelchair-bound for two months. I have spent over £10,000 trying to cure myself because there is no help from the medical profession. Doctors say we sufferers are rare. What's rare is doctors connecting the dots as symptoms can appear weeks later after taking a fluoroquinolone. Or you may not react until it's taken a few times as it's cumulative. It's like playing Russian roulette."

Ciprofloxacin for Urinary Tract Infection "I have had a UTI for about 2 weeks now. The first week I was prescribed 100 mg twice a day of Macrobid, which did absolutely nothing to my UTI. I went in for a physical days after finishing Macrobid and was told I still had a UTI, so I was put on 500 mg of Cipro twice a day. Ever since getting on Cipro, I have had pain everywhere in my body. I now have pain in my leg and behind my knee, I have horrible pain on the right side of my shoulder and neck, and I also have a sore feeling all over my chest area. On top of that, I feel as if something on my face is swollen. It does not appear swollen, but I feel my tongue is a bit bigger and so are other parts of my face. This is torture. I cannot wait to get off of this stuff."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm so sick, can't keep anything on my stomach. So nauseated, feel like I got the flu. Everything I eat goes straight through me. Got ulcers in my mouth. So much pain in my sides. I'm done taking this."

Ciprofloxacin for Urinary Tract Infection "I went to the doctor with a UTI. I got prescribed the generic for Cipro 500 mg. The first pill, I felt fine, the second pill, I started to feel a tingling sensation on my forearm and pain in my wrists. The third pill, my arms hurt from the shoulders to the palms of my hands, my arms had gotten swollen, and I couldn't even stand my watch. I couldn't sleep at night due to the pain in my arms, which I thought was not normal. The next morning, before my next pill, I decided to read the side effects of this medication, and it said that in some cases, it could cause swelling, vomiting, nausea, and arm pain. At that moment, I stopped taking the medication and went back to my doctor and complained. I made them write this medication under my allergies so this doesn't happen again."

For Epididymitis, Sexually Transmitted "For one, do not listen to all of these people saying after 1 or 3 days they can't walk or remember what they had for breakfast because of 1 pill! Everyone is different. I had epididymitis, but not due to sexual, it was bacterial, and after day 4 I was feeling much better. The only side effects I had were some muscle stiffness, jaw pain, and a little stomach pain, but for the most part, not enough to cry over and was tolerable. The medicine does its job, period. Why wait until you feel like shit to complain instead of reporting their bad effects quickly?"

For Kidney Infections "Took Cipro for a month, and it cleared up a very major kidney cyst infection for me. I was extremely unwell and in the hospital. I am 50 and a regular walker. I found all symptoms minor and manageable until week 4, when I did develop some extra aches and pains and felt a general malaise and unwellness. I even felt a bit depressed on the last day of taking it. Stopped Cipro yesterday and have woken up feeling like my old self. I would take it again, though, because it was so effective at clearing up my infection."

For Bladder Infection "Have an acute UTI which comes on very, very quickly, so have to go to A & E for intravenous antibiotics. This is the 3rd infection in 3 months, but the hospital keeps prescribing Ciprofloxacin 500 mgs, fine for a short while, but the infection starts again, with lots of blood in my urine. I experience dizziness, nausea, and some pain. This time, along with the Cipro, I've been prescribed Naproxen. Have an appointment with a urologist soon and hoping he will prescribe something different and that works. My life is on hold at the moment and totally fed up."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Cipros, a failed chemo drug with multiple anticancer properties. It performs these anticancer actions on your OWN CELLS. This medication can disable you, even if you took it before without issue. It's unpredictable. This antibiotic has ruined my life, and I'm only in my 20s. The nerve and muscular pain I feel lately is so debilitating, I don't know if I have a future or if I'm going to have to get on disability before I hit 30. I was healthy before taking Cipro. Despite the multiple black box warnings and studies showing the dangers of FQ (fluoroquinolone) antibiotics, you will be treated as if you're insane. You will be treated like a drug seeker, even if tests show organ or tissue damage. These adverse effects can be long-term, even permanent. There are SAFE antibiotics out there that won't disable you. I read warnings and thought, 'Eh, it's fine. I'm young and healthy.' I'm almost a year out, and I suffer so much. My future is compromised because a doctor prescribed a dangerous medication to me without any thought."

Ciprofloxacin for Bronchitis "Dangerous drug, associated with many side effects, even after you stop taking it. I took a similar one (a quinolone) and came out in a terrible rash. Had a bad taste in my mouth, and aches and pains. I also suffered hallucinations. All these reactions have been strongly associated with this group of antibiotics. Best avoided."

For Bacterial Infection "I took Cipro for my infected ingrown toenail. After the 3rd day in the evening, I woke up with a huge pain behind my knee/thigh. I felt like something popped. The shooting pain goes straight down to my left ankle. My feet were numb and felt pins and needles. I read about this medicine from the FDA. I was so mad that no doctor or pharmacist told me about the black box. No warning on the bottle. I called my primary doctor and met him. He checked to make sure I don't have any ruptures. He thinks it might be a muscle strain. But I am still in pain in my left knee down to my ankle. I hope it will go away??"

For Kidney Infections "I had to go to the ER because it was so bad. They gave me cipro, and I feel way worse than when I went to the emergency. I've been taking it for two days now, and the pain on my right side feels like it's on fire. I can't stand up for longer than a few minutes, and I've been throwing up every couple of hours. Antibiotics are supposed to make you better, not worse."

For Urinary Tract Infection "AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Have 'fibromyalgia' like me? You've probably taken this poison or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics. I developed the same neurological symptoms on the 2016 FDA 2nd black box warning (they don't call it fibro though) and also have/had plantar fasciitis and heel and joint pain. Debilitating problems started after my 3rd time taking Cipro NSAIDs (contraindicated!) after a surgery to prevent infection. Steady decline over a year then struck down with full-on fibro, which has been misery. Cipro kills good gut microbes that produce neurotransmitters like GABA, which prevents muscle contraction and calms the CNS-helps sleep and pain. Thank God for kefir and fermented foods, they are undoing the damage for me. Am better."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Took this drug for a very minor UTI. I was an athlete all my life with no issues taking any medications. A week on this antibiotic left me weak and in pain to the point of complete disability. I lost 10% of my body mass in less than a week from taking this. It has been 3 years since I took this medication, and I still have neuropathy in my extremities, extreme weakness in every muscle, continued muscle wasting, and increasing prevalence of hypointense bone marrow that is causing pernicious anemia because Cipro is one of the only drugs that passes through your blood-brain barrier and can get into bone marrow. It has destroyed the mitochondria in my marrow’s stem cells. I cannot work. My quality of life is not sufficient. I’m on my last $150, and I can’t afford my medical bills anymore, all from taking this horrible drug for a simple infection."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Please don't take unless a life or death situation. After 5 days, Cipro has caused me so much pain, especially in my left kidney. Muscle aches, as well. Ciprofloxacin has given me a non-stop internal fever. This medication has been debilitating. I can't get out of bed or take care of my kids. But my UTI is gone, smh."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've been on ciprofloxacin for two days now, it's a total of three days' worth of antibiotic. This is my first time taking it, and it seems to have cleared up the main reason I got prescribed the medicine, but the side effects are unbearable most of the time. Long bouts of nausea that come out of nowhere at random times, pain and tightness in my sternum, painful gas, and soft stools numerous times a day, and just an all-around feeling of bad to the point where I may not take my last dose because I'm afraid I will be up again half the night with discomfort. I've been on other antibiotics before, but I've never had this many side effects. I suppose it may help some people without the side effects, it just depends on how your body handles it."

For Diverticulitis "While this may have worked well on the diverticulitis, the side effects were so awful. I used Cipro for 10 days in April and was almost crippled with heel pain in my left foot, and big toe pain in my right foot. I had to put a box in my bed to keep the sheets off the foot; it was so painful. Once off the Cipro, my heel and toe pain slowly lessened, but I had a serious diverticulitis flare-up last week, and they put me back on it in the hospital. Despite telling the doctors about the heel pain (imagined, they said), they prescribed it to me when I went home. Then I started doing some research. I'm now off the Cipro and will never take it again; just hoping the damage done to my tendons isn't permanent. Back on Augmentin."

Ciprofloxacin for Infection Prophylaxis "DO NOT USE THIS DRUG. I used it for post-vasectomy infection prevention. Horrible drug with crazy side effects. I can't believe that this is legal to prescribe except for emergencies. I only took 2 pills, and 3 days later, I still have aches and pains in joints all over my body. Joints are stiff, and I have to walk slowly. Now I have to worry about a possible tendon rupture even months from now. I also have tinnitus (ringing in my ears), which is CONSTANT. After taking the very first pill, I felt light-headed, out of it, and almost passed out. I should never have taken the 2nd. This drug is insanely overpowered and should only be used if there is no alternative. It attacks your joints, tendons, muscles, digestive tract, and nervous system."

For Prostatitis "I was prescribed Cipro for a prostate infection in 2012. I took three pills. One Friday night, one Saturday morning, and one Saturday night. Sunday morning, I woke with intense pain in my right Achilles and right ankle. I could barely walk, and I think that if I had taken one more pill that I would have ruptured my Achilles. I was diagnosed by an orthopedic specialist as having acute tendonitis in my Achilles. I went through two rounds of physical therapy, and then later on that year my right shoulder began to ache. I was diagnosed with acute tendonitis and went through two rounds of therapy and two cortisone injections in my shoulder. A few months later, I was diagnosed with rosacea, and my ears developed a permanent ringing. I eventually got better, but my foot occasionally hurts, and so does my shoulder. My rosacea and ringing in my ears are still with me. I was once very active. I played in two senior softball leagues and a tournament team, but I never played again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Only managed to take 4 pills out of the entire regimen I was prescribed. I am in horrible pain. My shoulder, spine, neck, and hips are stiff, and they hurt a lot. My muscles ache. My joints are popping and cracking every time I move. I feel like I was hit by a speeding vehicle. Please do not take this drug, especially if all you have is a simple infection like a UTI. There are research articles saying this is a last resort, highly aggressive medication that should only be used for ailments such as the plague. The staff told me this drug was safe. I am terrified of these side effects not going away. Some people suffer from months or years of issues, like tendons rupturing, nerve damage, paralysis. There are much gentler and safer antibiotics available."

Ciprofloxacin for Prostatitis "30-day prescription up to 60. After the first week of mild nausea and mild diarrhea, I developed a weird tightness in my right hip, severe tennis elbow, and weird pain/headache behind my left eye for 2-3 days, bloating, some nights unable to sleep due to insomnia and tremors/weird body vibrations. Mornings were hell due to my coffee drinking and the foggy brain. Do not drink coffee while taking this! 3 weeks after stopping, I still have some prostatitis symptoms but have greatly improved. However, the side effects from the med of muscle tightness, brain fog, foot pain, hip pain, back tightness, lack of appetite, and fatigue still remain but seem to be subsiding a bit. I wish the docs would explain the meds they prescribe, but I don't think they really know!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Began taking this medicine when I was in pain for a strong UTI. This medicine has made me feel the worst I've ever felt in my life. Constantly throwing up, extremely high fever (104), dizzy, confused, blurred vision, chills, insomnia, and the most painful back, ribs, neck, and leg pain. As well, it makes you urinate less frequently, and that put together with not being able to hold down water, how is this supposed to make me 'better'? I have never been one who is sensitive to medication, but due to the amount of dehydration and pain I've been caused, I'm currently sitting in a hospital hooked up to an IV. I wouldn't suggest this medication to anyone, ever."

For Diverticulitis "I have been getting UTIs for years before I was diagnosed with diverticulitis, but my doctor gave me Cipro for the UTIs. As soon as I started taking this drug, I started getting hip pain so bad I couldn't even walk to the bathroom. I went to physical therapy, aquatic therapy, massage therapy, and nothing helped. I finally put two and two together that every time I took Cipro, this happened. When I was diagnosed with diverticulitis, I was given intravenous Cipro and Flagyl, and although it helped the pain and swollen stomach by the third day, the hip pain was getting really bad again. My doctor says Cipro would not cause this, but everybody in my diverticulitis support group has experienced the same thing. My foot was even super painful."
