"I was prescribed Cipro to treat bacterial overgrowth syndrome in my intestines. The first time I took it, it worked wonders! It without a doubt changed my life. Apparently, bacterial overgrowth is recurring, so I'm on my second round of it now - 2 pills, twice daily, for 14 days - and am experiencing much worse side effects than the first time around. The nausea/dizziness/upset stomach passes after about an hour, though, so I don't mind putting up with it to get the desired results, because it really does work phenomenally well for me!"

"I was given this by a Mexican doctor after contracting a very nasty bacterial infection with severe diarrhea during a road trip down the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. Worked great, and we were back on the road after one day."

"I took Cipro the first day prescribed. By the next morning, I was uncontrollably itching from head to toe, red as a horrible sunburn, heart racing a mile a second. I went back to the doctor and spent 4 hours on IV, and a couple of injections later, I went home with a horrible headache."

"I took a 10-day course over Christmas. My personality changed, I got so angry all the time, and the dishes and food making sent me over the edge. My family said I had become bipolar. I had pain in my knees, and my right leg kept kicking out to the side. I was just so hateful to myself and everyone. I felt so sad as the whole family now will remember this as the worst family reunion ever. I tried to explain, but not a soul seems to believe me. I had black runs to the toilet and brain fog like I was starting Alzheimer's. I lost my dad to Alzheimer's this same year, so it made me so paranoid."

"I was given ciprofloxacin for a possible infection after a stent was placed in my ureter during an OR procedure. After 3 pills, I had tendon pulls, weakness on my left side, abdominal pain, electric zaps in my legs and abdomen, fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, itching, etc. I could hardly walk for 5 months. Thought I would end up in a wheelchair. 2 years later, I still deal with pain, weakness, anxiety, brain fog, tendon pulls, abdominal pain."

"It is efficient in the treatment of bacterial infection, and it is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which means it handles both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms. It is effective in treating typhoid and paratyphoid, is easy to use, and has mild and unnecessary side effects, and is the best for bacterial infection."

"I took Cipro for my infected ingrown toenail. After the 3rd day in the evening, I woke up with a huge pain behind my knee/thigh. I felt like something popped. The shooting pain goes straight down to my left ankle. My feet were numb and felt pins and needles. I read about this medicine from the FDA. I was so mad that no doctor or pharmacist told me about the black box. No warning on the bottle. I called my primary doctor and met him. He checked to make sure I don't have any ruptures. He thinks it might be a muscle strain. But I am still in pain in my left knee down to my ankle. I hope it will go away??"

"I've used this antibiotic a few times because nothing else works for me, constantly given amoxicillin or doxycycline by the GP for a sinus infection that wouldn't go away even after rinses and sinus washes. Co-amoxiclav used to work, but it stopped working as well in the end, even the higher dose didn't seem to do anything. Taken cipro for a bad war infection, and I've found it's good again after nothing else worked. Bad side effects mainly for me are feeling so sick and struggling to eat, it can take a while to work. I'm usually given 10 days of 250 mg, and I don't see improvement until sometimes after 2 weeks. I have found lately it's getting harder and harder to get cipro because the GP doesn't like giving it. They prefer you to have amoxicillin or doxycycline, which I don't find helps at all, even with a second dose, I don't see improvements. You have to try this antibiotic and make your own mind up."

Ciprofloxacin "I was prescribed Cipro for a nasty and ongoing sinus infection. I realized after many months of physical therapy on a bad case of tennis elbow that when I quit Cipro, the tennis elbow disappeared. The side effects listed tendon problems. I believe it affected my elbow rather than other tendons."

"I am at this point having no issues after 3 days of taking 750 mg twice a day for a blood infection. Reading the reviews is scary. What upsets me the most is when I left the hospital, absolutely no one warned me of the possible side effects of this drug. I will update if I start having issues."

"Couldn't open my hand; swelling on part of the hand; extreme tiredness; vomiting and diarrhea last day; some ringing in the ears; had back pain after finishing - hard to get up from a low seat, wonder if it's related to the medicine? Wouldn't recommend this medicine for anyone and feel it should be taken off the market."

"Not even characters for this, but here we go: As a 16-year-old boy, I suffered a sports injury to the groin and was prescribed Cipro to fight any infection for a testicular torsion. After 2 days of taking it, I became violently ill and was having unbearable chest and back pains. The ER doctor told me to continue taking it. I took it for another 2 days. I was found unconscious in my high school bathroom. Rush to the hospital to have a CT show I was in complete renal failure. My kidneys at 27%, all caused by the Cipro. I made a recovery, but it wasn’t easy. I’ve never been the same. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DRUG. Do a quick search on the internet for “CIPRO TOXICITY,” and you’ll know why."

"I am 75 years old, and you really need to read this! I have been allergic to just about every drug I’ve ever tried. I used ciprofloxacin for five days, two times a day, and did not have any allergic problems. I read all the warnings on the prescription papers and only read reviews that rated Cipro as a 10. I had the greenlight laser procedure. I was told not to eat the following things two weeks before the procedure: no fish, no fish oil, no multivitamins, no vitamin D3, no vitamin E, no Advil. During the five days I took Cipro, I did not take aluminum, iron, zinc, dairy, milk, soy or almond yogurt, calcium, calcium juices, spinach, caffeine, over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, herbal supplements, antacids, magnesium, calcium, and foods that had calcium like broccoli, oranges, milk, spinach, and salmon. I drank 6 to 8 16-ounce bottles of water every day, homemade bread, soups, tortillas, beans, french fries, potatoes, oatmeal, and vegetable sandwiches. All the best."

"This drug might save your life. NEVER EVER USE IT UNLESS IT'S A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH! Read about fluoroquinolone toxicity. Cipro has given me massive mitochondrial DNA damage, hypoglycemia, and peripheral neuropathy. The FDA and even the manufacturers have released updated labels and MASSIVE WARNINGS, however, they only did so in press releases and on Twitter... NOT by contacting the doctors directly who are getting kickbacks from prescribing these meds. It only takes a little research. Were you diagnosed with fibromyalgia? Cipro toxicity can cause these symptoms, giving the doctor a false diagnosis."

"I have non-sexually transmitted epididymitis, so was prescribed 4 weeks of Cipro. Took a while for it to work. Around day 8, it was 95% gone. Doctor insisted many times this would happen between 1-2 weeks and NOT to stop the antibiotic before the 4-week deadline. Side effects - no having the same energy and stamina in the gym, slightly light-headed, and needing to sleep 30-60 minutes more a night. My bowel movements are no more frequent."

"I decided to try Cipro for UTI (urinary tract infection). Knowing all of the side effects, I got myself the 'FQ toxicity pack' (Q10, magnesium, vit E, probiotics) first. Had no coffee or Advil for several days in advance. I took 1 500 mg pill, with Pepto Bismol, after dipping it into olive oil (sad experience with Septra). Within an hour, my blood pressure dropped to 99/75, stomach started to go bubbly, then I got dizzy, relaxed, and sleepy. This kind of how I feel on Xanax. Next, I started to have shooting burning pains in my both arms, and my right arm felt irritated when I lightly touched it. Some weakness and alienation in arms and legs. Strong rapid heartbeat later that night. I thought it all was heading to neuropathy and decided to stop there. But!!! The symptoms were somewhat gone even after 1 pill! So, it is a great potent drug, just not for me, unfortunately:("

"58-year-old male. Self-diagnosed epiglottitis via Google... all the classic symptoms (headache, bodyache, fever, inflamed upper throat -> actually, the area of the epiglottis, painful swallowing, some difficulty breathing when trying to sleep)... and when I saw on a Saturday that it could possibly be fatal (asphyxiation)... but treatable with antibiotics, I reached for the first antibiotic I saw listed for the condition (although I do not have that reference handy). Cipro 500 mg, 2x day, 5-day course (expired 5 years ago, 2011). 12 hrs (after 1st dose) - fever gone, 18 hrs - headache/bodyache gone, 24 hrs - epiglottis still inflamed, but less so? Pain swallowing. 36 hrs - epiglottis less inflamed? Less pain swallowing? 48 hrs - epiglottitis resolved!!!"

"I had a bacterial infection in my lungs that I fought with for eight months. Since I have COPD, I really thought it was the end of me. Ciprofloxacin saved my life. I had to take three rounds of it and really had a bad experience with the side effects on the tail end of the third round. But I’m finally getting better and I’m not smothering anymore."

"Ok, so I had pain in my right testicle and groin area, went to A&E to check it all out, as I've been having this pain for 3 days. When the surgeon checked out my problem and did an examination on my testicles, he said there are not many signs of torsion, so he prescribed me these awful tablets (CIPROFLOXACIN) as he thought I had an infection. Him being a surgeon, I thought he knew his stuff, so I agreed and got my prescription for 2 weeks. After a few days, the symptoms I had from the medication were so bad. I had a lack of hunger, awareness, a massive headache, loss of concentration, feeling sick, and black tar-like stool. Since I had these symptoms, I immediately stopped, as I felt in a better state when I was not on Cipro. The next day after being off CIPROFLOXACIN, I'd regained my appetite, didn't feel like rubbish anymore, and my stools are back to normal."

"I took 3 doses, and when I got in my truck, I heard a rip in my crotch. I could no longer drive that vehicle because I couldn't jump up to get in. I had to buy a vehicle that I could just sit in. A day or 2 later, I was just pushing up in bed with my arm, and I heard a rip in my elbow. I quit doing anything and quit the meds, drank a lot of water to let it heal. In later time, I had an X-ray, a chiropractor found a gap in diamond-shaped bone in the hip area of my crotch. Is that what ripped?? Be careful taking this. I was told this could happen even 6 months to a year later after taking it :("

Ciprofloxacin "Had to take Cipro 750 mg for a severe bacterial infection after knee replacement surgery. Was on it for 7 months, and it cleared the infection (mycobacterium fortuitum), but a year later, I have what feels like a ruptured Achilles. Now I’m starting to have pain in my shoulder (unexplained). It was basically risk vs. reward! Lose the leg or suffer possible side effects."

"My sister was given it as part of a Lyme disease treatment. When a Lyme patient takes an antibiotic, it causes something called a Herxheimer reaction as it fights the disease. My sister took Cipro (500 mg x2 or x3 per day), she immediately felt horrible. She had dreadful muscle pain, couldn't raise her right arm, and was really sick, however, she had never read about being floxxed, the name given for the horrible side effects of fluoroquinolones. She assumed it was the famous 'herxing,' so she continued taking it for 30 days. When she had her regular phone appointment after a month with her doctor, he immediately said, 'It's not a herx, you've been floxxed.' This was 10 years ago, and she's still in pain and can't lift her arm. One of the strangest and most difficult side effects was she started to have audio hallucinations. She constantly hears radio, church bells, vacuuming, gongs, etc., all the time. She doesn't hear people talking, not schizophrenic. Does anyone else get this? Please message me if you do!"

Ciprofloxacin "This was a bit scary to be on because of possible side effects, but it worked. I had a severe inner ear infection for a year. It started with sinus infections, then inner ear. It went to my tonsil and adenoids. A Z-pack, then 10 days of normal antibiotics, then Cipro last. I was nauseated the first dose, but I ate some crackers and it settled. I followed the rules to the letter of how to take and what not to take with it. I was also on a corticosteroid, so I was very careful not to strain or work too hard. Had no real problems with this."

"I took ciprofloxacin to treat a gut infection caused by Aeromonas that showed up on a stool test. I was first prescribed Bactrim, which caused intense tachycardia, dizziness, nausea, and dysphoria. Cipro did cause waves of dizziness and nausea, which meant I couldn't drive right after taking it. It would have been a problem if I had been working. But in the end, the side effects were mostly tolerable, knowing that the infection had to be dealt with. After I finished my 10-day course, I had some weakness and exercise intolerance. My doctor prescribed supplements to rebuild my mitochondria."
