Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "My Dr. prescribes this for me every fall/winter. I get a cold, it turns into bronchitis, and then I can't sleep or function normally due to the horrible coughing. I take it about an hour before I go to bed, and I sleep like a baby, no coughing, and wake up refreshed and ready to go. Side effect is I feel a little groggy until around 11 am, but that's not a big deal for me when you aren't coughing and able to sleep."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This stuff is a miracle cure for nasty coughs. I was prescribed this for a painful, dry cough that was unresponsive to codeine and OTC cough medicines. It completely killed my cough and allowed me to relax and sleep. If I were a doctor, I'd give this stuff out instead of codeine."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "First of all, if you go to a doctor and request this medicine, he/she will see this as drug-seeking behavior. It is an opiate. The only difference between Tussionex and Vicodin is the antihistamine in the Tussionex. It is highly addictive. I should know... I have been to drug treatment two times for my addiction to Tussionex. I didn't take it as prescribed, though - worked my way up to 3 oz. each day - sometimes twice a day. Be very careful."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "Like others have said, this cough medicine is the only Rx that effectively treats a cough (due to a combo of reflux, post-nasal drip, and allergies…perfect storm) that I have dealt with over the past 30 years! When this coughing 'season' occurs, I cough to the point of vomiting throughout the day and especially at night. I only take this medicine at night when incessantly coughing has kept me awake for several nights. The question is how do you get doctors to prescribe as needed without thinking you are drug-seeking or addicted? Other meds just don’t impact the coughing like Tussionex…it eradicates the cough!"

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This is the nastiest looking and tasting medicine I have ever taken. With that said, the medicine works the best for a cough. I kept myself and my husband awake at night coughing. I took this medicine (only at night), and it worked like a charm. This is the best medicine for a cough (I don't waste my money on Robitussin or Mucinex) and is my go-to medicine whenever I get a pesky cough."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I have had bronchitis and pneumonia on many occasions, and this medicine is hands down the best for helping stop the coughing and pain associated with coughing from these infections. I have walking pneumonia right now, and my family doctor will not prescribe any narcotic cough syrup. Tussionex would have been a huge blessing for me!"

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This is the best cough syrup, hands down, in the country. It works very, very well and has no bad taste. Very pricey, but worth it. Some doctors will not write for it. I think that is poor professionalism for those who refuse. Yes, some will seek and/or abuse, but the benefit of the doubt should be given for something that works this well. Highly recommended."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "Had a chronic cough for 1 month that over-the-counter medicines wouldn't stop, and even prescription syrups wouldn't stop. I went through 4 bottles of syrup before going on TussiCaps - stopped my cough in less than 24 hours. It came with a side effect of drowsiness, which was fine for me because I hadn't slept in over a month due to the cough. Great medication."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This is the best cough medicine out there. Whenever I get chest colds that keep me up at night coughing, I request this. I have been doing this for 10 yrs. Seriously, if you want to stop your cough - request this one. Nothing works like this one. The side effects do not outweigh the results!"

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "After 15 years of vasomotor rhinitis, which caused chronic coughing, I was finally prescribed something that helped me sleep without waking up 10 times coughing each night. I don't notice any hangover or grogginess the next day. My only complaint is that it is not covered by my insurance and is a little expensive."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I first used Tussionex in 1981. At that time, it was called Tussionex Susp. and contained only 5 mg of hydrocodone per dose. They also had a tablet version available back then, which equaled one teaspoon of the suspension. The reason that it is so effective over other cough remedies, even other syrups that contain hydrocodone, is due to the type of hydrocodone used."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "A wonderful medicine! Stops a nagging cough dead in its tracks. I have used it several times when I've had the flu or a bad cold. Unfortunately, it is now hard to get due to people who can't be responsible with such medications."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cold Symptoms "My physician ordered this medicine after a severe flu and cold that lasted over a month. I found immediate relief, even helped the laryngitis. I see great potential for my patients in hospice. I am amazed at how effective it worked and with minimal negative side effects. I am amazed I have never heard of it before. As a clinician, I see great potential for my patients."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This is a wonderful medicine that will turn off the most vicious coughs. Having said that, my doctor and I found that 5 ml every 8 hrs (instead of the usual max of 10 ml/day) is most effective in my case; I'm about 2 meters tall and about 105 kilos. I have asthma, which is easily exacerbated; when I get any sort of cough, it can (and, in the past, has) turned into pneumonia. In my doctor's estimation, Tussionex has saved me about 5 trips to the hospital over the last 10 years. In summary: This medicine, (expensive as it may be) has, in my opinion, plausibly saved my life. It shuts the cough off and allows my lungs to heal."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I recently moved to Savannah, GA, and developed a horrid cough. I continued to get colds and did not stop coughing for weeks. I was treated by an allergist with every known allergy drug, inhaler, and nasal spray. I then started allergy shots. I continued to cough till I threw up at least 10 times a day. In addition, this caused urinary incontinence. I then started to see an ENT and went through cat scans, scopes, etc., with no relief from the cough. My personal care physician has now suggested I see a gastroenterologist. Meanwhile, she was willing to treat the symptoms. This is the best drug I have ever taken. After the first dose, I immediately stopped coughing. It lasts a full 12 hours and allows me to sleep!"

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "Tussionex is awesome for that cough you get at night, where you get a tickle in your throat and just have to cough and can't stop. For me, it makes me feel loopy, though, even 12 hours later I will be lightheaded, so I usually don't use it unless Cepacol or something doesn't work. It's rare I use it more than once a year, and even then I only use half the dose. It really works, but it's powerful."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I was prescribed Tussionex for a cough associated with viral pneumonia. It was excellent for suppressing my cough. However, I felt as if I'd had a couple of margaritas, so I was only able to take it before bedtime instead of every 12 hours, or I couldn't have functioned at work. On the positive side, it did eliminate the constant cough and allow me a good night's sleep. As another reviewer noted, I also found it extremely constipating. I advise increasing your liquid intake and possibly taking an over-the-counter stool softener while using Tussionex."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "This stuff is amazing when you are really sick. A severe cough was making my head and neck hurt so bad. After about 20 minutes of taking Tussionex, my cough was much improved, and my neck/headache almost non-existent. I was prescribed this after codeine wasn't helping at all. Will definitely take it again if needed."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "The directions tell you the medicine stops the desire to cough. Works great, but also stops the desire to pretty much do anything. Haha. Works amazing, but plan on catching up on the sleep you've been missing from your cough. This worked for about 14 hours from one pill on me. Didn't take any today, and the cough is back. I had some residual effects of dizziness when it was wearing off. As soon as I ate some food and slowed down a little, it went away quickly."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I've read everyone's posts and am so jealous! I've been coughing for 5 days now and haven't had a decent night's sleep for the last 6 nights! The doctor prescribed this medicine 3 days ago, took it, and nothing. Seriously, nothing! Felt a little relief 10 hours later, but nothing like what everyone else here has experienced. I'm still coughing and miserable and am going to give it another try tonight."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "I had a bad cold and a continued cough that kept me awake. After I developed a fever, I was prescribed Tussionex and antibiotics. The Tussionex worked amazingly well. I was finally able to sleep without waking up coughing all the time. It does taste good too. I have just been taking it at bedtime and am trying not to take it too much. But if I have any more cough problems, I will ask for this first!"

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cough "After my stubborn attempt to rid an upper respiratory cold without a doctor's help, and trying OTC guaifenesin, mucolytics, dexbrompheniramine for cough suppression, and staying well-rested and hydrated, at days 10-13 I realized I needed help as I hardly slept for two days with an incessant post-nasal drip-caused cough. An urgent care doc confirmed no pneumonia, no sinus infection, yet to handle the cough, lingering inflammation, and likely bacterial symptoms (yellow and brown sputum), prescribed an albuterol inhaler, zithromycin, and Tussionex. Smart cocktail to handle all. I’ve slept great for the past two days because the Tussionex has kept my cough at bay, and I’m turning the corner for the better."

Chlorpheniramine / hydrocodone for Cold Symptoms "Tussionex® Pennkinetic is a very good medication for cold and cough conditions accompanied with aches, etc. The active ingredients (hydrocodone 10 mg/chlorpheniramine 8 mg) last a long time for long-lasting relief. I would recommend Tussionex® Pennkinetic 12-Hour Suspension over any other cough preparation. Cough relieved. Rest assured. Not to mention the hydrocodone is good for aches and pains."

For Cough "This medication rocks. For the past years, I have been in and out of allergy doctors, urgent cares, and so on. Once again, got the cough and snots going. I have been given just about everything you can imagine. Today, I was given this medication and BOOM, within an hour or so, those rapid-fire coughs that happened over seconds went away. My coughing would usually last over 1 to 2 months on other meds. Sinuses feel really clear, and once again, the old soldier is saluting again."
