Zyrtec (cetirizine) "Unfortunately I had a severe reaction to generic Zyrtec last night. I took 10mg before bed. I woke up with a severe heartburn, nausea, and abnormal heart rhythm. I took sodium bicarbonate to relieve the acidic heartburn. I went back to bed only to be awakened with another severe heartburn, but in addition I was extremely dizzy, nauseous, cold sweats, sick feeling. I went to the bathroom nauseous. I barely made it back to bed as I was about to faint. Fortunately my bed isn’t far from my bathroom as I almost fell from faintness and dizziness. My head was soaked in cold sweats. In the late morning, I found out that there is a percentage of women in my age group 60’s that have fainted with Zyrtec who have taken it less than a month - in which I have - only taken it since my Patch Test allergic reactions since Thursday. No other symptoms since the drug wore off."

"I suffer from Giant Urticaria which is caused from several different things like Pepsi Max and Persil Washing Powder. My Dr. provided 10mg Cetirizine and I take it only when the reaction starts and within 30 minutes the itchiness stops and after a few hours the hives and redness have completely gone. It does make me very drowsy but that's a small price to pay for relief. Great product, highly recommended."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) "Oh wow! I'm going on nonstop itching for 3 months. Doc had me on medrol dose pack, prilosec, and benadryl. Yah, worked great til the dose pack ran out. Quit eating everything but oatmeal and fair life lactose free milk out of sheer desperation. This is completely off the charts maddening. Changed everything scent free, organic soaps, lotions, dteft detergent, air purifiers, air filters, hepa vacuum filters, NOTHING helps. Starting on 2 generic Zyrtec and 1 Allegra. God willing this works. All the doctors do anymore is scratch their heads. Pathetic."

"I have been using Zyrtec for more than 15 years. It perfectly helped me get rid of my chronic idiopathic urticaria. When I don't take the pill, the next day, itching starts. Also, I can't sleep well in case I forget to take my pill at night."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) "OMG it REALLY works!! I don't know why I've been having hives, but its amazing how this works!! I was having them so bad that I can't figure out which clothes to wear. I don't know what is triggering it. But I haven't had an itch in hours! I took it today for the first time, and I'm back to normal."

"I've been taking the generic for 3 months. Glad to see other posters talking about the groggyness and sedated feeling the next day after taking it at night. Just a few breakouts that are gone by morning along with my energy. The one thing is I take it at night and can't sleep for about 2-4 hours after taking it. "

Zyrtec (cetirizine) "I am currently suffering from Zyrtec withdrawal. I have been taking Zyrtec for about 2 years. I never use to take this drug as much as I do now. But because I noticed that I would need to retake the pill after 2-3days after the last dose, I decided that something didn't add up. I started to believe that it had to be dependency. I am grateful for this forum that it confirmed my suspicion. I started quitting Zyrtec, and I am now on my 5th day... The itching/burning still continues, affecting my hands/neck/scalp/back/chest/legs/feet, pretty much everywhere. I take Benadyrl to help relieve the itch before I sleep. Hopefully, my body recovers from the withdrawal from cetirizine, so that my body doesn't start to grow a dependence on the Benadyl!"

"I have taken Zyrtec or the over the counter with a similar name like Walzyr, anyway, other than a rare occasional large hive, and probably due to missing a dose. I have been great. But I got this idea (to save more money) that I should have the doctor prescribe citirizine generic. You would think that would be OK, but I have been broke out in fine hives and a few welts. Also some spots that are a little dry like my eczema. My skin has never ITCHED this extremely. First I had it on upper right arm. WHICH HAS FINALLY RECOVERED, BUT... It continues to move and I break out, all over the last 26 to 28 days. I am switching back to the drug I used before. We will see if it a medication issue. Wish me luck!"

"I've had chronic Urticaria for the last 6 months. My Allergist has me taking 4 zyrtec a day. Two in the morning and two at night. I also take 300mg Rantitidine twice a day and just added singulair because I'm still having hives with all these meds. I end up with Angiodema (facial swelling) and have to take Prednisone. Seems as if its getting worse and nothings helping."

"I have a love-hate relationship with this drug. My chronic hives/urticaria & angioedema made my quality of life abysmal, low energy, pain, mental fatigue, and low self-esteem with my appearance. I have had hives for 2+ years now. Taking this does help.I recall taking a lower dose at the beginning but as time passed my condition would go back to how it was and the dosage I took would be upped. As of Feb 16, 2023-- I'm taking a huge dose to have a lower amount of hives. I plan to up it again as the hives swelling are interfering with my quality of life again. As it's paid out of pocket....but it's the only thing that works for me."
