Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 pm, about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take the next dose this morning and was super nauseous, tired, and not hungry all day. Going to request a different drug. To be fair, I did not take it with food at the exact same time and did not know to take probiotics a couple of hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed amox-clav 875 mg 2x a day for two weeks for infected adenoids in my sinuses. I had not been taking it with a full glass of water but had been taking it with an early afternoon and late evening meal. The doctor also prescribed Prilosec to be taken with it once a day. From the start, I noticed a little bit of nausea with extreme fatigue on days 2 and 3. On day four, I woke up feeling great, assuming I slept better because the medicine must have been working. However, two hours after lunch, I had severe nausea and stomach cramps and burning along with severe diarrhea. Took 6 Tums and the Prilosec earlier than normal and ate a lot of plain crackers. Burning lessened just a bit. This medicine has awful side effects. Need to call the doctor."

I just close my eyes and wait till the sun rises. Lay in bed, wake up, eat, take my course, and repeat.... Hate this antibiotic..."

For Bacterial Infection "I went to an urgent care center. I have a horrible dental abscess. My mouth is huge, and the throbbing was unbearable! I have a high pain tolerance too. I took my first dose of Augmentin (875 mg amox/125 mg clav) yesterday. I ate a bowl of cereal prior to taking it. I had very little nausea, and I have a weak stomach. The first 2 hours after taking this, I felt a little better and was happy. A few hours later, BAM! I was shaking, eyes burning, and I had a mild fever of 101. My body was aching just like the flu! I will NEVER take this stuff again! I am 30 years old and 112 lbs and was given the strongest dose, maybe it was just too strong for me? But after reading reviews and forums, I’ve read a lot of the same reviews! Grown men having the same side effects and doubling over. Yes, one dose helped me with the throbbing in my face/gums, but the flu-like symptoms I had to deal with weren’t worth it! I was done after one pill... I will NEVER TAKE THIS AGAIN!! Good luck."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "This drug is awful. I have 3 days left, and I physically cannot handle it anymore. I'm intensely nauseous every day, but I never vomit. I just drool at the mouth and dry heave until it wears away. But by the time the nausea settles, it's time to take another pill! It makes going to work almost impossible. I also get unusual headaches and generally feel terrible. Unfortunately, it's a holiday, so I am unable to contact my doctor for something new. Considering risking it and quitting - never again."

For Bacterial Infection "Day 8 of taking this for just another sinus infection. Have had horrible, HORRIBLE side effects. My body felt extremely strange, tingly almost. Nausea has been so bad I had to take a pregnancy test to eliminate that possibility. I did vomit today for the first time in years after a whiff of cleaning products. The infection has improved, but if you have a sensitive stomach - I don't advise. I did notice improvement (on nausea) on days I consistently chugged water (emphasis on chugged) and took the dose while eating."

For Sinusitis "Three years ago, I was prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection. Within two days, I was having terrible stomach pains, nausea, and severe bloating. Began vomiting, stayed severely bloated, and was in constant pain. Lost 40 pounds in 2 months even with eating regularly. Was not absorbing anything I was eating. After multiple misdiagnoses and exploratory surgeries, I was diagnosed with SIBO. One month later, I developed colitis and spent 5 days inpatient in the hospital. Still cannot tolerate gluten and have lingering digestive problems three years later. Also, now have a phobia of taking antibiotics and new medications for the first time. This took a year of my life from me. I had taken it several times prior and tolerated it well, and this time, it destroyed all of the healthy bacteria in my body. I will never take this drug again or anything similar to it. If you have to, load up on probiotics and yogurt and pray."

For Strep Throat "I was prescribed Amox-Clav 875 for strep throat. After three doses of the medication, I became extremely nauseous and threw up everything in my stomach. I became exhausted and slept for multiple hours. I developed a terrible headache, and my nausea continued. I contacted my doctor to explain my conditions, and he prescribed an anti-nausea medication and a different antibiotic. While Amox-Clav was effective in helping my strep throat symptoms in only three doses, it rendered me incapable of doing anything. I was not comfortable continuing the medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I don't tolerate antibiotics very well at all. I was put on this, and it was okay at first. After a couple of days, I definitely had severe nausea and some dizziness. I really had to force myself to eat. I was on 500 mg 2x daily for 10 days. I only made it for those 6 days. I wish I had made myself push through, but I couldn’t work dizzy. I also itched a little bit, not bad. Did not help UTI, probably because I stopped 4 days early. Side effects lingered a week, even after I stopped."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "As someone with panic and anxiety disorder, these reviews terrified me and I almost asked for a different antibiotic, but I managed to pull through and take it. Thank goodness I did. My infection cleared up fast. Only side effects were feeling nausea and stomach pain. Take a probiotic with it (by with it I mean leave a 2-hour period before and after doing that."

For Sinusitis "I went to an ENT, and the camera she ran up my nose and into my throat indicated I had a sinus infection. It was a great relief as I had been to my family doctor a few times, and she said there was nothing she could see, and I was left feeling ill. The ENT gave me 3x 500 for 21 days. Seemed very excessive, I thought. She did prescribe Sandoz-Rabeprazole as it reduces any side effects. I have had no nausea or bowel issues, however, on day 8, I feel worse than ever. I am anxious, sad, had to take a leave from work because I am lethargic and cannot focus. My vision is blurry, and my eyes are dry. So glad to know I am not alone. Going to my GP tomorrow to see if she can do anything."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "I've had several antibiotics before in my life with no problem. If the doctors ever try prescribing me Augmentin again, I'm refusing. WORST EXPERIENCE of my life. I've been extremely nauseous with stomach pain. Some Pepto took care of the discomfort easily enough, but that's not my main complaint. It has destroyed my sense of taste and smell, everything reeks, I can't make out any smells, everything has the same disgusting odor. There's a putrid bitter taste in my mouth all the time. I lost almost 10 lbs through my 10 days of this antibiotic simply because of how little I could eat or keep down. Granny Smith apples and yogurt were the only things that didn't have that bitter putrid taste. Not to mention it took 7 days for my fever to break when the doctors told me 3-4."

For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium 2x a day for 10 days. First day, I had chills. I took acidophilus daily while taking the Rx. By the 9th day, the bacterial infection, which was some combination of dental/sinus, was not better. It was not worse. But my doctor prescribed an additional course of the drugs because she knew I could not see a dentist. It may be coincidence, but after taking tablet 21, I awoke with the most severe nausea I have experienced in 7 decades of life. I then vomited 5 times, so severely, I think I may have internal injuries - that will have to be investigated. I'm uncertain if it did not affect my circulatory system. That was four days ago. I took no more of the Rx. I feel completely disabled. (I have not vomited for any reason until this, for 10 years). It could be a coincidence, but I wouldn't take this again. Ironically, on that 10th day, the possible bacterial infection seemed to be clearing up."

For Sinusitis "I was just prescribed amoxicillin clav 875 mg - 2 pills a day. I'm going on my 3rd day of meds. The first day I had a horrible headache, but I'm prone to them and the weather was rainy too. So I figure that could have been something else. The worst thing I have experienced is the nausea. It happens a few hours after I have taken a dose. I've been taking the meds with a half bottle of water. I sip some milk and eat cereal along with it each time. Usually, a few hours after the dose and/or when I eat, I will have to go to the bathroom. Somewhat loose stool. May be the nausea, but I also feel sick/feverish a few hours after the pill, but I do not have a fever. Comes and goes."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

When I went to see the doctor, she said it was most probably a throat problem. By Thursday the 12th, my throat was sore and I had problems eating. On Friday, the problem was getting worse, and today, Saturday the 14th, I woke up to a left ear with blisters that are oozing, a tongue coated with canker sores, swollen glands, and stiff joints. I spent a greater part of the day in bed. Tomorrow morning, I am off to the emergency room. Instead of feeling better, I feel awful and very sick."

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine was so bad. I gave it to my son for a sinus infection. During 6 to 7 a.m., he came to me and complained about stomach pain, and then all of a sudden, he ran to the bathroom and threw up a lot, five times. We found out about the side effects when we all woke up!! This all happened, and it was day one of the medication. Please refer another medicine."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this medication for sinusitis. After taking the pills twice a day for 5 days out of the ten I needed, I began developing side effects: swelling of the throat, sweaty hands and feet with tingling/burning, tingling in both arms, swelling of lower legs and ankles, tight chest, pain on front and back of chest, pain on both sides of my neck, unable to sleep flat, nausea, and constant gas and indigestion. Dry mouth, terrible taste in mouth with a white-coated tongue. My blood pressure jumped to 144/98 from the usual 117/80. I thought I was having a heart attack! The pain in my chest was unbearable. I am hoping all these symptoms resolve on their own after stopping the antibiotic. All of my medical tests came back normal."

For Strep Throat "I got strep throat for the 2nd time in a month, so they wanted to prescribe something more heavy-duty, I guess. I got prescribed 875-125 mg tablets, and I had to take them every 12 hours. After my 2nd dose, I fell asleep and woke up about 4 hours later to myself really needing to vomit. After I think 8 doses (5 days out of the 10 I was supposed to), nothing changed at all, well at least nothing changed for the better. None of my symptoms changed, I was still throwing up every few hours-sometimes it had blood in it. When I wasn't throwing up, I was continuously nauseous, I couldn't walk or really see, I couldn't eat, it was just really bad, so I stopped taking them. After I stopped, I had really bad diarrhea, but my strep symptoms went away."
