Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Horrible, horrible experience. I'm a healthy (no pre-existing conditions, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet) female in my mid-30s. Rarely take meds, especially antibiotics, so when I do, they usually work well. I was a little nervous to take Augmentin because the dose was so strong, but the doc was adamant because I had a very severe sinus infection. By the third dose, my whole body was reacting. No relief from the sinus congestion, horrible headache, very anxious/nervous, nightmares, night sweats, zero appetite, insomnia, blurred vision, horrible, horrible yeast infection (I have never had a yeast infection in my entire life). Called the doc hysterically crying and was told to stop taking it immediately. Stay far away!!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "This is my second time using Augmentin. Before this, it was used for an ear infection, and now for sinusitis. Symptoms cleared up almost exactly when my doctor said they would-about 2 days in each time. Symptoms have been minimal, with only minor stomach upset. Taken with probiotics several hours apart from it regularly, I managed to avoid a yeast infection."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "On Tamiflu for the flu, Z-pack for strep throat, and Motrin for pain and fever. Day 2: me begging, please give me penicillin, please. My throat began to swell and was covered with infection. I went to urgent care and was given a prednisone shot along with a Rocephin shot, followed by a prescription for prednisone, Augmentin, and Diflucan. Immediately, the Augmentin kicked the hell out of the strep throat. I began spitting out the infection, the flu symptoms subsided, and all is right in the world. I had the runs, upset stomach, and a yeast infection, all of those pale in comparison to strep throat and the flu."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "This is one of the worst experiences in my entire life. After taking Augmentin, I had diarrhea for a week, a yeast infection, dry red rashes on the palms of my hands and inner thighs, hemorrhoids, exhaustion, blurry vision, and an increased heart rate, which caused me to not be able to sleep. I WILL NEVER take Augmentin again, worst meds in the world."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I loved the antibiotic. If you take probiotics and eat yogurt, you'll be fine. If you're sensitive to antibiotics and get yeast infections easily, I recommend asking your GP for Diflucan. Take 2 pills 2 or 3 days into the antibiotic course, then on day 6 or 7."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed amoxicillin for a tooth abscess/infection. The medicine worked great and cleared it up. Side effects: slight yeast infection (quickly warded off by eating plenty of plain Greek probiotic yogurt). Also, my stomach was fine throughout the whole course, but once I finished the medication (6 days later), I have come down with nausea and diarrhea and dizziness that lasted for 3 days. It still beats a toothache."

For Bacterial Infection "I took this combination for bronchitis, 125 mg. It has caused severe lip swelling (an allergy?). Even a week later, I am still having the swelling. I also got a yeast infection. I am not allergic to the amoxicillin, however, the clavulanate is the culprit. Did you know it can cause death?"

For Bacterial Infection "I will never, and I mean never, take this medicine again. If I see the doctor say amoxicillin/clavulanate, I'm running for the hills. It gave me vaginal itching (vaginal yeast infection). It is horrible. I had diarrhea - I pooped till I couldn't poop anymore. I'm done taking this."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 mg 2 times a day for 10 days. I took it for 5 days, and it seemed to be working to clear up the sinus infection, but I had to stop taking it because it gave me the worst yeast infection I have ever had in my life. I read someone else's comments about their tongue swelling and having ulcers on it, thus, it is oral thrush or a yeast infection on the tongue. I had to take 7 days of Diflucan and eat plain yogurt to get rid of it. And I had to stop taking the Augmentin. I tried to start back taking it in halves, but the yeast infection in my mouth came back. So I had to get more plain yogurt with probiotics to get rid of it. I cannot take this medicine."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "This drug was the worst. I'm still recovering. Started taking this on 12/28 for SI. I take daily probiotics and increased them since I expected some stomach upset. At first, not so bad but by Friday 12/30, the yeast infection from hell reared its ugly head. I had Diflucan on standby just in case and took it 12/31 and stopped Augmentin altogether. Nothing, and normally it's hours when I feel relief. I had to get Monistat 1 on New Year's to help fight it. Just got relief as of 1/4. Digestive still not normal. Never again. Unless my life depends on it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Having new medication anxiety, a sensitive stomach, acid reflux, and an irrational fear of diarrhea and vomiting made me terrified of taking this medication after reading a lot of these reviews. But! The key here is food. Avoid anything that upsets your guts. Eat something right before taking the pill and eat a probiotics yogurt 2-3 hours after taking the pill. This will help with an angry tummy and also help prevent yeast infections caused by antibiotics, ladies. Don’t skip a meal and snack on crackers or the likes throughout the day. This med is bad if it is in an empty stomach. Coming from someone who has taken a lower dose of amoxicillin only and gotten the runs every time, with sticking to a strict regimen of never letting the gut be empty and eating the yogurt 2 hours after taking the pill, I’ve had no side effects and started feeling better on the 2nd day. Goodbye bacterial sinusitis."

For Bacterial Infection "I took this medicine for a sinus infection, and within my second pill, I had nonstop red diarrhea. So severe that I have had cuts from wiping so much. I had a severe cough, and I would leak poop when I cough. And my cough has not gotten any better, and it gave me a yeast infection."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "This medication did clear up my strep throat within the first couple of days being on it. However, the side effects were horrible. I had watery diarrhea for like 3 days, I always felt nausea after taking it even with food, and I had strong stomach pains. Also, by the 4th day on it, I had a yeast infection."

For Sinusitis "My problem is I'll always get a yeast infection on this drug, no matter how much yogurt and probiotic pills I take. It also will make me a little sick to my stomach if I don't eat something with it. Otherwise, as long as I really have a sinus infection, it takes care of it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "For my son, who got multiple ear infections, Augmentin worked well. We always increase his yogurt intake while on antibiotics, and he's had little to no trouble with this side effect. Seems to taste okay to him too. Good drug... try to be proactive about the diarrhea and/or yeast infection with probiotics and taking the med with food. My two cents..."

For Strep Throat "Dr. thought I had strep just by looking at my throat and felt like I was swallowing glass, so I got 500 mg amoxicillin 3x/day. Within 24 hrs, I could swallow again and fever went away. However, I am now on day 5 of this medication and have pretty bad nausea, a raging yeast infection, and frequent loose stools, and the abdominal cramps are pretty bad. If you're on this, start taking a probiotic or yogurt immediately! I'm not playing around!"

For Bacterial Infection "I was given this medicine for a nasty cough I couldn't get rid of caused by a bacterial infection, plus I had an enlarged tonsil. It helped with the swelling, but the side effects were something else. It does the job, but I definitely could have done without the diarrhea and yeast infection."

For Bronchitis "It worked for my bronchitis but gave me diarrhea and a yeast infection. I felt better in my chest, worse in my pants. I forgot the last time I was on amoxicillin I also had diarrhea. Not taking it again, will ask for something else."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "Was prescribed a 10-day course of Augmentin for an ear infection and bronchitis, and by day three had diarrhea, a severe headache, and nausea. Started probiotics, and that helped a little. Now, after being off of it for one day, I have developed a yeast infection. The meds did help the infection, but I felt like I was going to die in the meantime. I will never take this med again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Was prescribed the 875 mg tabs every 12 hours for an infected cyst. Right from the 1st dose, I experienced stomach upset, severe bloating, and diarrhea that burned. Within several days, I also developed a vaginal yeast infection and severe yeast rashes in both armpits. I normally have a cast iron stomach and can take normally any medication without meals and have no problems. The Augmentin caused bad side effects even with meals. Stay away from this drug, it is well known to cause stomach problems."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I'm someone who generally responds well to medications. However, with Amoxi Clav 875 mg, I had very uncomfortable lower abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gas started about halfway through a 7-day course. Despite taking with food and taking 2 different probiotics twice daily, this medication caused a yeast infection and rectal itching that is still lingering almost 2 weeks after treatment. I've seen 3 separate doctors about side effects just to make sure there isn't something severely wrong with me. Do not take this unless you're desperate!!"

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this antibiotic for sinusitis. It caused the worst yeast infection and bowel problem I have ever had. A day or two after I took my last dose, I began to have severe diarrhea with blood and/or mucus in it. I also began to have severe stomach cramps/heartburn as well. I went to the doctor thinking it was something more serious, and she did a stool test as well as a blood test. Everything is fine, she said that this antibiotic has a reputation for doing this to people. I am on day 8 of this. She says it could last a while, and I just have to stay hydrated and wait it out. I hope it goes away soon. I can't even eat without having to go!!! I've lost about 10 pounds in a week!!! I am so sick of this! Stay away from it!!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

For Sinusitis "I developed a viral upper respiratory infection on April 21st. By April 29th, I started to run a low-grade fever of 100.8° F, and my sinuses were throbbing, and both ears were too. By May 1st, I knew I had to see the doctor who prescribed this for me to take every 12 hours. By May 3rd, the fever broke, and I felt much better. However, I'm having copious amounts of diarrhea even though I eat with it and am eating yogurt twice daily. Now I'm feeling nauseous and bloated all the time and developing a nasty yeast infection. I'm on day 6 of this and seriously considering just stopping it, although it says to take it for 10 days. My sinus and ear infections have completely cleared up. Before stopping, though, I'll call and talk to my doctor tomorrow and see what he says. Don't get me wrong, this antibiotic is very effective, but the diarrhea, nausea, and yeast overgrowth down yonder are no joke! I'm just glad I haven't developed oral thrush from it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 twice a day for a severe sinus infection and just after two pills (one day) I could see light at the end of a dark, stuffy, congested tunnel... I began feeling much better almost immediately but a side effect that almost always happens to me with antibiotics... I got a yeast infection! My doctor told me that this is common because antibiotics job is to kill bacteria, all whether good or bad... these include bacteria that naturally occur and are normal in the vaginal tract, so my doctor usually prescribes something for a yeast infection. Other than that, taken with food, I did not have any side effects and feel much better... it's amazing how quickly it works. After being miserable for days, I'm very happy!"
