Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I get sinus infections twice a year like clockwork. I usually get a Z-pack and a couple of days of prednisone, and I'm usually better in a couple of days. This time around, I was given 875 mg of Augmentin for 10 days, along with a 10-day step-down dosage of prednisone. I took the meds as prescribed for 4 days and had to stop. I've never had such debilitating stomach pains in my life. I'm talking stomach pains, not intestinal pains. I felt so nauseated, though I never vomited once. My head felt funny, like a headache was trying to develop, and I began to sweat. It has been 5 days since I stopped taking the medications, and I am still having issues with my stomach! Never ever again! I need answers!"

For Sinusitis "This is a strong and multi-purpose antibiotic. Yes, you will get stomach pain, yes, you will get loose stools, and yes, you get some other form of discomfort. But if you want to rid your upper respiratory infection quickly and for good, then this is the drug. No pain, no gain. This drug almost guarantees that the original infection will not return. When it comes to sinuses, you need to destroy all of the bad bacteria for good. Just reducing the bacteria with a mild antibiotic that agrees with you is certain to allow the same bacteria to grow and make you sick again a month or two in the future. Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I took it for a severely abscessed tooth. It did clear up after 5 days (2 1000 mg tabs a day). However, I felt horrible the entire time. Gave me so much anxiety that I had 2 panic attacks. I had headaches, stomach pain, and diarrhea. No appetite, even though you have to eat in order to tolerate the medicine. My infection was really bad, and I'm thankful that the Augmentin cleared it up, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to take it again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Monday morning, I went to my doctor, and she diagnosed me with sinusitis and prescribed me Augmentin. I took my first dose at around 11 a.m. Four hours later, I was feeling terribly nauseous with awful cramps. Though the medication had helped subside the pain in my head, there was a newfound pain in my stomach. I stopped taking the medication on Wednesday because the stomach pains were unbearable. In my experience, this medication helped get rid of my sinus infection, but now I am suffering through daily nausea and cramps, and I have been off the antibiotics for two days."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "My 16-month-old daughter was prescribed this for an ear infection, her first ear infection ever. She's never been on antibiotics before. This drug is tearing up her insides. We're on day four of ten, and I'm not giving it to her anymore. Going to the doctor today for other options. She's been crying, screaming, writhing with stomach pain, and I feel like the cure is FAR worse than the ear infection! Wish I'd known how strong it was before I picked it up. Horrible!"

For Sinusitis "Pro: Got relief from a bad sinus infection within one day. Cons: Supremely hard on my stomach and energy level. If I was not nauseous, I had severe stomach pains and chest dagger-like pangs. Also had the sweats. And yes, all this even after taking probiotics and with food."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I started Augmentin 1 gm twice/day 5 days ago (Wed. Sep. 9th) to treat inflammation in the tooth root. The stomach problems started by day 4. Today (day 5) was really bad: headache, stomach pain, pain in my joints, and my whole body. I also had a loose stool from day 1. I called my doctor, explained the situation, and he said I can stop taking it, a minimum of 4 days should suffice. So I took 9 out of a course of 14 tablets. I hope I'll get rid of my whole-body pain and stomach problems soon. So overall experience with Augmentin: bad."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "This medication did clear up my strep throat within the first couple of days being on it. However, the side effects were horrible. I had watery diarrhea for like 3 days, I always felt nausea after taking it even with food, and I had strong stomach pains. Also, by the 4th day on it, I had a yeast infection."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I took this for 4 days, and now I’m seriously regretting it. I have serious diarrhea and the worst stomach pain and cramping imaginable. The severe diarrhea has meant 10-15 bowel movements per day. They have been pure liquid. I’m now on day 3 of the episodes, and the diarrhea is now about a 1 to 1 mix of blood and stool. My appetite is shot, and because of the pain and diarrhea, I’m afraid of eating. The stomach pain is so severe that I’ve been bedridden for the last 3 days. It’s so bothersome I’m not able to work from home while I’m off work. It’s kept me awake every night where I get 2-3 hours of sleep, and then the pain builds back up, which requires a pill for pain that I supplement with Tylenol. I’m waiting to hear back on the lab results from the stool sample I provided. There is a chance that my stomach chemistry is damaged to the point that I may have contracted an illness called C. diff, which will require a 3rd type of antibiotic."

Rushed to the medical center, given an injection to stop the vomiting, didn't work. Vomiting continued until only bile and blood was coming out. Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (Amox-Clav) 125 mg every twelve hours for 10 days. Starting having diarrhea the day I started, and by day five, I became so sick I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. Horrible stomach pain and cramps, fever, extreme weakness, painful muscles, mainly in legs, nasty sweat, nightmares, and I lost my sense of smell...which may have been a good thing since I was pretty much stuck in the bathroom. The fever and pain lasted two days after I stopped taking the Augmentin on day five. The diarrhea has continued (on day eight after discontinuing drug) and is pretty much spontaneous. I can’t go anywhere. I have never had stomach issues in my life (I’m 50). I fear my gut is damaged beyond repair. This is a nasty, nasty drug. Also, has worsened my depression and mental state in general."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin several months ago for a severe sinus and upper respiratory infection. Eight days into a 10-day course, I was even more sick than when I started. I ended up on Levaquin and steroids for 14 days as a result. Once again, a few days ago, my primary care prescribed Augmentin for another sinus and UTI despite my protests. Within two days, my chest is considerably worse, and I am also experiencing terrible stomach pain and nausea. I will be on the phone tomorrow insisting on a new medication."

For Sinusitis "I had a severe sinus infection. And although I needed an antibiotic to get rid of the infection, this is the worst antibiotic I have ever taken! I was prescribed 20 tablets - 10 days, 2 a day. On about day 7, I started having horrible stomach pains, both upper and lower, and felt absolutely nauseated, with little strength due to the nausea. I had never seen a mixture of amoxicillin and potassium together. Something seems terribly wrong with this script. I was always good with just plain antibiotic 'amoxicillin'. What's going on here? Drug companies trying to poison us? Because that is what it feels like. I'm glad I'm done with the prescription and will know better next time. BTW, a friend went through the same thing. Coincidence? Nahhh!"

For Sinusitis "I have 1-2 chronic sinus infections a year, and this time I was given Augmentin the first time, and let me tell ya. I'm on the 2nd day, and after the 2nd dose, I woke up with my sinus headache basically gone, and it was so bad the day before. Only have clogged ears right now. No side effects besides a little bit of stomach pain, but so tolerable, no nauseousness at all."

For Strep Throat "Caught my strep on day 1. Was prescribed penicillin 500 mg originally 4 times daily for 10 days. After two days of antibiotic treatment, my symptoms worsened, resulting in a second visit back to the ER in severe stomach pain since I was taking penicillin, Tylenol, and Advil on an empty stomach due to not being able to swallow even my saliva. The doctor gave me a steroid called Decadron via IV, followed by a pain medicine via IV. The steroid gave me immediate relief within an hour, helping the swelling down. Afterwards, he discharged me and sent me home with Amox-clav 875 and Tylenol 3 with Codeine for pain. The Amox-clav was directed to take twice daily for five days. I'm on my second dose and I feel a major difference but severe stomachache, constipation."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I just started Augmentin antibiotic yesterday for a sinus infection and have had 3 doses, but it's the worst antibiotic ever. I have had really bad stomach pain and terrible diarrhea, and today I only took one dose, but it didn't get any better. My dentist prescribed this to treat a so-called sinusitis that was coming on due to issues with my teeth, of which I haven't felt sick at all. So yes, I agree that this is not an antibiotic that should easily be the first choice for everyone, especially for people with sensitive stomach linings like myself. I already have it bad most of the time, so I don't need a medicine to make it worse. I will be calling the dentist tomorrow ASAP for a change. I do not recommend this to anyone, especially those suffering from gastroenteritis. Be careful."
