Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I used Tymlos for 3 months initially. Prior to my first injection, my blood pressure was perfect. After the injection, my BP would climb to 185-195/90-95 and the heart palpitations would start. At night, insomnia and leg cramps would arrive. My doctor took me off for one month - no heart palpitations, no insomnia, no leg cramps and blood pressure back to 115/65. My doctor asked me to start again. This time it was worse. BP even higher and heart palpitations more pronounced - extreme chest pains, as well. The leg cramps were brutal and my Achilles tendon in my left leg started hurting and burning. Eight years ago I ruptured it in TRX as a result of being on Levaquin. For seven years I have had no pain, no issues whatsoever in exercising until I restarted the Tymlos. I just went in for an MRI, the Achilles repair is intact - however, I now have damage just above - the tendon has thinned and I am on severe restrictions to avoid another rupture. I am off of Tymlos."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "My first week on Tymlos was excruciating! About five minutes after taking the injection, I had heart palpitations, a severe headache, my teeth hurt so bad, and then the lower back spasms started and I cried out in pain. It was horrible. I called my prescribing doctor after the first couple of days, and she said that she had never heard of anyone having the side effects I described. They made me feel like I was crazy for saying that it was so horrible. I have now suffered through a little over a month of this drug. Although not so intense, I still have heart palpitations and now severe thigh and feet cramps. I feel terrible and don't know how much more of this I can take. I am 59 years old and I work full time and am a very busy person, and this has made my quality of life very bad. I hope it is worth it!"

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I started Tymlos on 3/12/20 and decided to discontinue it due to heart palpitations and anxiety. I also had terrible insomnia with it. I took the injection at night before bed, but when I tried taking the injection in the morning, I would have to lie down because it made me so tired (go figure). With all of the COVID-19 worries, I sure don't need my heart racing any more than it already is. Also, the black box warning of osteosarcoma worries me a lot, frankly."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I was apprehensive about taking this Tymlos injection because I’m always sensitive to medications. I took the shot Thursday night at 9:15, immediately had lightheadedness and fatigue, heart palpitations. The heart palpitations went away, lightheadedness and fatigue stayed. I went to bed at 11 pm, was awakened by horrible reflux at 3 am. Fell back to sleep, was awakened at 5 am, severe pain in my entire head, teeth, gums, etc. Sat up to get Tylenol and was totally blind in my left eye. I woke my husband, he took me to the emergency room. Spent 7 hours being tested, 2 CT scans, expert eye examinations, neurological testing, blood tests, all normal tests. I try never to take pain medication because it makes me nauseous, but they said it would be baby doses. Ok. Well, wound up dry heaving for 3 hrs. Finally released, went home. Once pain meds wore off, pain in head started again. I took 2 gabapentins, 2 Xanax, and slept all night. I woke up Saturday morning, same pain in head, the pain jumps all around."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I have been on Tymlos for five months. I inject just before getting in bed to minimize feeling the side effects. I started having heart palpitations when I first started injecting it. Each month they lessened, and now I don't have them at all. I had a pelvic stress fracture a year ago and a back compression fracture eight months ago. I didn't fall or have any type of accident. My bones just fractured. I've never had to inject myself before, but it is very easy to do. The dosage is pre-measured. Couldn't be easier. I hope it is working. Still have a lot of pain from the fractures, but went from a walker to a cane, and sometimes in the house I don't need the cane. I can't rate this medicine because I don't know yet if it has made my bones stronger. Doctor will order a bone density test at my next appointment."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "On Tymlos for 1 month. Won’t make 2 years on this med. Probably only another month, then switching to Prolia, even though I know it doesn’t build bone. With Tymlos, the constant headache, palpitations, and nausea are very unsettling. However, the bone/muscle pains the last few days have been the last straw. Can’t sleep. Can’t get comfortable."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "Horrendous itching all over my body, could only tolerate 1/2 the dose... i.e., 40 mcg. Any increase in dose resulted in marked tachycardia (fast heartbeat) that was uncomfortable. I also experienced considerable fatigue. None of the osteoporosis drugs are without significant side effects. No good options, very unfortunately, for those of us who suffer from this. Also, it takes a while to get used to doing subQ injections the very weird way the company recommends... injecting directly at a 90-degree angle right into your abdominal skin. If you are thin, this is not the easiest thing to do. Definitely do NOT recommend this drug, and I am a medical doctor myself."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I am just about finished with my second pen. I switched to injecting at bedtime because of side effects, and that has worked well. I do get the dizziness and palpitations. During the day, I do experience fatigue and brain fog, but it seems to be lessening. I have fractured three vertebrae and have a score of -4.3 in my spine, so I am planning on staying on it."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I was on Tymlos for about 5 weeks — I gave it a good try. I had to inject at night before bed because of the palpitations and nausea — but then I dreaded going to bed. The main symptom that has bothered me so much and still is after being off it for a week is bone pain, which I did not have before. It wakes me up at night. I hope it goes away. I’ll be starting Prolia soon and hope to have fewer side effects."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "Tymlos is effective because my numbers on spine are getting down a little, but side effects are strong, like: vertigo and heart palpitations are very strong, and I feel very weak the next day after injection."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I took Tymlos for almost 3 months. Racing heart, palpitations, being winded, and fatigue were my most severe symptoms. I am told these symptoms should have subsided in 7 or 8 hours after an injection, but that did not happen in my case. These symptoms, especially the palpitations, persisted off and on 24/7 and are still with me even though I've been off the medication for 2 weeks. So now I have to have a cardiac workup to make sure there is no damage to my heart, and I guess try to pinpoint what is happening. I did not have heart problems/issues before I started this medication. Right now, my heart is my main concern before I start to address my osteoporosis. I feel like I traded one problem for two."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "Am on my 3rd pen; since the beginning, side effects have been palpitations and fatigue, so I moved (an hour at a time) injections from morning to about 2 hours before bed. I tried bedtime, but it disturbed my sleep, so I made the adjustment. Palpitations were mild, might last 15 minutes. Two nights ago, I went through my regular routine, and within 10 minutes, my heart was literally beating out of my chest. Very fast, very hard. It was very alarming and kept up for 1 1/2 hours, and then another 1/2 hour before settling back into rhythm. I contacted my doctor the next day and detailed past side effects and this episode. The response was that these were not side effects of Tymlos and maybe I needed to see a cardiologist or I had 'anxiety,' and he didn't think I should discontinue the injections. I thought this was very dismissive and careless. I have other health issues that require doctor visits on a regular basis. Pretty sure if I had heart problems, someone would have addressed this."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I'm on my fifth injection. My numbers were 4.7 in the left hip. My calcium and vitamin D are excellent, so I can't improve with nutrition. I didn't get any instructions; the VA sent me the pen and, later, the needles. When I asked for instruction, they told me to look at the YouTube videos, which I did. Bunches of them, but they don't tell you where to inject or what to look for after. No one mentions all the stuff you all are telling me. So, I'm sorry, but glad to hear the back pain, palpitations, insomnia, brain fog, general malaise, severe headache, and pains in my legs and ankles are fairly typical. I'm not surprised at the health care professionals dismissing our concerns. After all, years of living with the pain of a condition and knowing our own bodies are not equivalent to that two-week course the health provider took. I experience burning and itching at the injection site that seems to grow bigger with each injection. It was the first time the needle actually hurt... a lot."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I am two weeks into my Tymlos injections. Side effects have included palpitations, increased heart rate, nausea, and fatigue. The fatigue has been the hardest part so far. But I am in my early 30s and have sustained 20+ non-traumatic fractures, so I feel that this is my only option at this point. I am hopeful to see what my next DEXA looks like."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "Take it at night, have a slight headache and pressure behind my ears, but not horrible. I have an 'ill feeling' after injection, but I go to sleep fairly quickly after. Palpitations are there, but it calms down after a while. I am on my first pen about 2 weeks in. So far, tolerable. However, I am very interested in why the Tymlos hasn’t had more facts available to the public. Why does it cause the pain in the bones (I am guessing it’s caused from bone growth.)"

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I started Tymlos 1 month ago. I do have some palpitations, but it goes away after half an hour. I inject before I go to sleep, so I just lie down after taking it. Hopefully, this will help my bones. I plan to stay on it for 1 year. Then get a new Dexa to check my T score."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "I am on my second pen. I have experienced palpitations, nausea, and headache, which are tolerable. But, I have the bone pain others mentioned. The pain occurs randomly, in different areas: ankle, hip, legs, etc. I too had an episode of back pain, I thought I fractured my spine, but it resolved in 24 hours. I also notice that the first void after injecting is cloudy. Has anyone experienced that? Also, each injection burns, has anyone else experienced that?"

For Osteoporosis "This medicine gave me horrible side effects, high blood pressure, heart palpitations after the 1st dose. Felt like a sword going through my back, radiating through my body. I'm 28 hours into it and will never do it again. I asked about heart palpitations and blood pressure and was told they were not in the side effects."

Abaloparatide for Osteoporosis "Started Tymlos full dose, and it made me feel odd, but tolerable. The palpitations were better after one week. Then I got bone pain in my leg-very different from any pain I've had before! Woke me up. After skipping it for a few days, the pain went away, so I started back 2 clicks (20 mg) and am up to 5 clicks (50 mg), but starting to get insomnia. I'm a bit into investigating. I found a dose response clinical trial that shows that 40 mg works half as well as 80 mg, but it still works! Even 20 mg has a positive effect. So I may stay with a half dose until I give up and switch to something else."
