I have had a nonstop tension headache for almost a year now, and I am now on amitriptyline. I’ve only been on it for 9 days but I haven’t had any relief yet, and I know that’s not long enough to tell if it works but I just want this headache to go away already. I was on Topamax, and that didn’t really do anything, so my neurologist switched me to amitriptyline and I started on 20mg, and now I’m on 30mg each night. This headache came one day randomly, and never went away since. If anyone could give advice or share how long I should wait to see if amitriptyline works before switching to another pill, that would be great.
It is possible that 2 to 3 weeks or longer will pass before you notice the effects of this medicine.
