Usual Adult Dose for Thrombocytopenia
3 mg orally once a day starting 8 to 14 days prior to a scheduled procedure
Duration of therapy: 7 days
Comments: Patients should undergo their procedure 2 to 8 days after the last dose.
Use: Treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a procedure.

This drug should not be used to normalize platelet counts in patients with chronic liver disease.
Precautions
CONTRAINDICATIONS: None
Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 18 years.

Administration advice:
- May be taken with or without food.
- Patients should take a missed dose as soon as possible on the same day and return to the normal schedule the following day.
Monitoring:
- Hematologic: Platelet count (before starting this drug and not more than 2 days before the procedure)
Patient advice:
- Advise women of reproductive potential who become pregnant or are planning to become pregnant that this drug should be used during pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.
- Advise women not to breastfeed during use of this drug and for at least 28 days after the last dose. Advise women to pump and discard breast milk during this period.
