Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for almost a year now. Started it because Zyprexa made me unbearably tired and confused, and Abilify made me insanely anxious. For the first three weeks, I felt tired within two hours of taking it at dinner, so I was going to bed at like 8 every night and waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning. I was also incredibly nauseous to the point where I didn't eat hardly anything for about a month and lost about 15 pounds. After that, the side effects basically went away (about once a month I'll get the sleepiness again), and it's been great at controlling my symptoms!"

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I was only taking Geodon for 3 weeks (tapered up to 60 mg), and one evening I was sitting in front of my computer and experienced the worst panic attack of my life (also my first panic attack). I was admitted to the ER that day. I felt like I was about to have a drug-induced psychosis. My pdoc instructed me to stop taking it immediately. The withdrawal was an absolute nightmare. I experienced over 30 different symptoms (anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, paranoia, nausea, crawling skin, heart palpitations, chills, and tingling just to name a few). It has been almost 2 months, and I am still struggling with anxiety."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Geodon causes horrible nausea and working memory problems. I can't remember what I'm supposed to be doing at work sometimes. I go into a room and forget why I'm there. I had to switch to one dose in the morning (I work at night) because taking two doses a day just made me too sleepy. Truthfully, this is the best antipsychotic I've been on (I don't like antipsychotics period). At least it doesn't cause weight gain. Risperidone made me a zombie, Latuda didn't work, Abilify gave me insomnia, and Seroquel made me suicidal."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "At first, taking Geodon, it was great, felt alive for the first time in so, so many years, it was for my major depression disorder. Then, after three weeks of taking it, it stopped working. Now increasing to 40 mg daily. I’m hoping that works, but kinda nervous it’s not going to. Just my experience for taking it for 3 going on 4 weeks. The side effects I had were nausea, lack of appetite, shaking, and some vision issues. Side effects seem to be subsiding."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for several years now. After trying seemingly every medication as well as ECT, this combined with Lamictal finally seemed to even my bipolar out. However, it's not perfect and I still have periods of mania and depression when I mess with my dose. I'm currently thinking about switching antipsychotics, mostly because of the horrible withdrawal symptoms I get each morning and night before my next dose. Mostly bad nausea and vomiting almost every day. I also go through periods where I literally cannot stay awake because of this medication (falling asleep in the hallways of my college classes and while driving). Overall, it has helped me tremendously, but the combination of side effects, withdrawals, and still having manic symptoms is causing me to think about other options."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "Ok, first off, I'm very skeptical about reviews. I don't know what to believe when it comes down to it. My doctor told me I needed a mood stabilizer, so he decided to put me on Geodon. I looked up reviews beforehand, and I was unsure, but then said, what's the worst that can happen? Well, the worst happened. I'm actually typing this in the emergency room. I've experienced awful side effects after the first 3 days: restless leg syndrome, headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting. The bad outweighed the good, and after 2 weeks or so of taking this medication, my doctor told me to stop taking it. In such a short time of taking this medication, I'm experiencing crazy withdrawals. Stay away from this drug!"

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I take one 20 mg capsule every night. I have borderline personality disorder. Before starting this, I never slept, and this medication helps me sleep. I had some side effects when I started taking it. I was sick to my stomach, throwing up, and wasn't able to keep any food down. This lasted a bit over two weeks. I've been on this medication for a few months now, and it's helped me with mood and sleep. I take Prozac 40 mg as well."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I had bad mania and needed to be on something. I couldn't go to sleep, crazy focused on everything and felt so scattered. My doctor recommended Geodon, and it worked for the first 2 months, but then it gave me horrible anxiety. I had to get off it and get on an anti-anxiety. I also had some bad side effects from Geodon - lots of vomiting and nausea, cravings, and anxiety."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "My Dr. switched me from Risperidone to Geodon because of weight gain. I had taken Geodon back in 2002 and didn't have any side effects that I can recall. However, this time it was a nightmare. As soon as I started taking it, I felt sick. The side effects I experienced: sore throat, cough, sore throat glands, restlessness, acid indigestion, heartburn, belching, depression, rash on my neck, loss of appetite, back pain, joint pain, flatulence, hot flashes, insomnia, unable to stay asleep, exhausted. I was on it for 2 1/2 weeks. My Dr. told me to stop cold turkey. The withdrawal was hell. I was dizzy for a week, hot flashes, chills, shaking, nauseous, vomiting, terrible spasms in my thighs. It took about 8 days for me to feel better."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I was prescribed this during a bad mixed episode, and it did wonders for me. It worked within the day! My only complaint is the sedation side effect. I get knocked out within two hours of taking it, so I take it at night. I also find that you can't take it with carbonated drinks, or else you get nauseous."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I felt extremely woozy, nauseated, and shaky while on this medication. I had 2 trips to the ER for severe dehydration caused by the Geodon. I was so shaky I was pretty much convulsing, my heart was going crazy, and it felt like my brain was shutting down. By the time I got to the ER, I could barely form sentences and very nearly blacked out. It was a terrifying experience. I felt sick the entire time taking this drug."

Ziprasidone "This is the only medication that actually helped my PTSD. However, it is often overprescribed and needs to start in low doses. I was started at 80 mg twice daily and literally had to nap constantly. I was really scared and stopped taking it. Years later, in 2021, I took 20 mg twice daily and it seems to work great. After taking it for a year, I stopped taking it as I felt that I no longer needed it. It is now May 2023, and I felt I wasted a year of my life. This medication made me sleepy at first. After a week or so, I could take it in the morning with no problem, however, an evening dose would have me sleeping soon. I also was able to eat less junk, have more energy, helped with depression and anxiety, and lost weight. I must eat this with food or I'll be nauseous for sure. I hope you read this and consider this medication as it was life-changing. I'm also learning to deal with the fact I will need this long term or I'll fall into depression and my house will be a mess."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I started taking this one week ago. I am taking it for bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder (not sure about complete diagnosis yet) and insomnia. It has helped me sleep. The only thing is the side effects that come with it. I started taking it on a Wednesday, and I started feeling sick Thursday. I have felt sick every day for a week: nausea, throwing up, diarrhea. I have been on a lot of medications, and I really want something that will work, so how long do I go on with the side effects hoping they will disappear? Will the side effects eventually go away?"

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I have been taking antidepressants for approximately 20 years now. I normally find one that works well and am able to maintain progress for years until it just stops working. I take Geodon (20mg, CL62 Generic ONLY) at night, after eating at least 600 calories. The catch-22: I have little to no appetite, so it is often a chore to decide on something to eat in order to fulfill that caloric requirement. I say requirement because if I ever fall short of those 600 at night, the next day, I will have extreme anxiety (day-long panic attacks) and various other side effects. It took me almost 8 months of suffering to figure that part out on my own. I've also noticed that my caloric intake during the day needs to be at a similar level or the panic, paranoia, overheating, nausea will creep its way into my day. I just wanted to share my 'ah hah' with anyone else who may be suffering through anxiety and other effects while trying to stay with an otherwise miracle med."

Ziprasidone for Bipolar Disorder "I've been taking Geodon for about two months now, and it isn't working well for me. The first two weeks, I was completely euphoric and energized and saw some resemblance of my old self. I was hoping for the best, but I knew deep down I was experiencing short-term mania without all the risks. My doctor increased my medication, and now I feel flat, hyper-aware of my surroundings, and kind of dark. I also have been non-stop eating, and I had trouble with nausea and dizziness. I don't feel depressed or suicidal, but I do feel 'icky.' I'm NOT going to continue this medication because the pros do not outweigh the cons. So my never-ending search for the correct medication combo carries on."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on ziprasidone for 3 months (40 mg) and like this drug to some extent. Pros: No side effects like nausea or a headache. Hardly gained any weight (but my appetite increased). Helps to fall and stay asleep (I take it 6 hours before going to sleep and I start falling asleep at 11 pm). Cons: Very difficult to wake up in the morning (drowsiness for at least 2 hours upon waking up). It doesn't really help me with paranoia, anxiety, and OCD."

Ziprasidone "I was started on Geodon in 2017 while hospitalized for suicidal ideation. It helped. In 2019, I started to gain weight. I found myself dull and was sleeping for 14 hours a night. I thought, well, this is better than being hospitalized, right? I noticed if I was even 5 minutes late taking it, I felt awful. Here it is 2022, and after my best friend of 38 years died after a 10-month long gruesome battle with cancer, I barely cried. I knew something had to change. I have gained 113 pounds since 2019. I have been weaning from 60 mg to 40 mg for 4 weeks under doctor's supervision, and it is a living nightmare. I am shaky, sweaty, nauseous, have the chills, cannot sleep, and have nightmares. I have no idea how I am going to get off this medication completely. It may take months. This is a nasty medication, and I would recommend for anyone considering taking it to research the side effects and ask your doctor a lot of questions about it."

For Bipolar Disorder "I take 160 mg/d ziprasidone for bipolar and anxiety. It works pretty well. No side effects so far except that it’s made me stop getting my period, and I go into withdrawal and get very nauseous and shaky if I forget to take a dose. I was hoping it would help my severe insomnia, but it doesn’t really make me tired. My mood is a lot more level, though, and my anxiety has improved."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This drug is a life ruiner. Within a few days of medication, it gave me a bad reaction with: blurred vision, headache, gastrointestinal issues, tremors, restless legs, nausea, and of course, OCD. I've never had obsessive-compulsive disorder since I was a kid, but after this drug, YES. I've tried several therapies, but none of them had success. After years, I still haven't found a cure, and I still suffer from OCD, with an inability to do everything. If I see a TV show, a game, Facebook, the Internet, YouTube, reading a book, or an article, everything triggers obsessions and consequently compulsions. I live with constant anxiety and fears, and the blame came all from this 'medicine.' I want my life back, my tranquility back. Stay away from this drug if you want to live and safely."
