Vilazodone for Depression "I switched from Pristiq (which I had been on for over a year) to Viibryd after my blood pressure went up. I had some of the stomach issues at the beginning, but nothing too bad. I began with 10 mg, then 20, then to 30 mg very slowly, as I had read about the side effects. In all, I was on this medicine for about 8 weeks. Over this time, my whole body basically bloated up. I looked like I was pregnant! I gained about 10 pounds and craved carbohydrates. I was also having nightmares. Mind-wise, I believe I should have been at a higher dose, but in the end, I opted to change medication due to the stomach bloating. I have been on Celexa and Pristiq, but the stomach component of Viibryd seems to affect me badly."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Well, I've been on Viibryd for about a week, and I can say I feel more alive. I've been on several others, but the side effects were terrible, so my Dr. decided to try this. I read all of the other comments, I pray I don't get the side effects. The only thing that's happened to me is my stomach turning, but hey, I can handle that. If the side effects don't get any worse, I'm staying on it. I have a lot more energy, and I'm calmer."

Vilazodone "I started Viibryd in 2012 for anxiety and panic disorder, and my experience with it has been great. Little to no sexual side effects, no weight gain, and the initial adjustment period gave me VERY few side effects — maybe a couple of stomach aches, but that's it. Alongside therapy, it truly changed my life around — no overthinking, no paranoia, happier moods. My cons: the moderate to moderately severe hand tremor that it has given me. It’s not constant, but almost. When I’m stressed or anxious or doing any fine motor work, I barely have any control over my hands. However, I don’t think this is a very common side effect, and I wouldn’t discourage someone from trying it for that reason. Something I hate is how quickly it wears off. ALWAYS keep some on you in case you forget your dose. I have been on the floor shaking and near vomiting because of how awful it makes me feel if I wait more than 24 hours to take it. Speaking of — after a decade, it stopped working. Back to the drawing board, sadly."

Vilazodone for Depression "Medicaid covers this! I'm ending week 3 on Viibryd - 2 weeks on 10 mg, finishing the 1st week on 20 mg. Had lots of tummy trouble after the 1st dose (diarrhea, slight nausea, lots of bloating & gas), but it has lessened, but not good yet. I take it with lunch. (Also on Synthroid - empty stomach in the morning, Wellbutrin - 450/day x 10 yrs) Main other side effects: a bit more anxiety, electric-zappy/restless legs in the evening (getting better), other muscle twitches at first, trouble getting to sleep (worse after dosing up to 20 mg). I do feel a little more energy and a little more positive. Not interested in food during the day after taking Viibryd, mostly due to upset tummy. I get HUGE cravings for sweets in the evening (must be after it wears off)."

Vilazodone "I started this medicine almost 2 weeks ago. I don't feel as depressed, but I feel most days that I'm walking around with my head in a fog. Some stomach issues, but nothing major (mostly gas). I will give it a few more weeks, but after reading some of the people's comments, I may stay at 20 mg until I see my doctor again."

For Depression "I started vilazodone 10 mg last year, seemed to help with seasonal depression, kept me going. I switched to 20 mg a few months ago and have been in bed almost every weekend since, crying spells, feeling of helplessness, 2-3 days between showering, some suicidal thoughts, don't leave the house, literally give no fucks. I'm surprised I have been able to keep my job while taking this. Positive-this med does not cause any weight gain, probably because it does upset your stomach and lots of time on the toilet. Also helped me stop drinking, was a daily drinker for many years, alcohol-free for over 2 months now. That being said, I am going to taper off, not into feeling like a zombie with the shits all the time."

Vilazodone for Depression "I cannot say enough good things about this drug. It made me 'me' again. I have tried many drugs over the years to try to deal with anxiety and depression, and either the meds made things worse, didn't work at all, or the side effects were worse than the actual problem. I tried for years to deal with no meds at all, then when things were getting to a boiling point and not really having a doctor listen to me, I did my own research and requested to be put on Viibryd. My anxiety is almost nonexistent now. I feel better than I have in years. The only side effect I have been experiencing is stomach upsets and diarrhea, but that has also gotten better with time. I take 20 mg once a day and am beyond thankful I have found this drug. I have been on it now 6 months, no weight gain, no sexual side effects at all."

For Anxiety "I tried this medication between Cymbalta and Trintellix. Cymbalta did not eliminate my anxiety and caused stomach issues for me. Viibryd's half-life is short. For whatever reason, I would have discontinuation effects late in the cycle. Taking half 2x/day helped, but seemed to weaken the effect of the drug. The bottom line for me was that while it worked at 40 mg part of the day, the end of the day would be very difficult, with brain zaps and lethargy. If you have this experience like I did, you simply may metabolize the drug too fast to take advantage of it properly. It is unfortunate because other effects of the drug -- digestive, libido, etc. -- were quite good."

For Depression "The vilazodone was prescribed during a psychiatric stay for suicidal ideation. Constant stomach distress followed by gas and diarrhea post-eating anything. Shaky, nausea, profuse sweating, joint pain, extreme dizziness, and extremity swelling. Weight gain of 6 pounds in 12 days of taking this med. Dry mouth and generalized feelings of being very sick from the first day of taking this medication. Called my doctor about the side effects and ordered me off of it ASAP. Brain-wise, I felt scared, numb, and family complained my affect was flat. I did want to be around people and socialize, but diarrhea made it very difficult. Do not drink on this med as extreme dizziness occurs. I do not recommend this med to anyone."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Viibryd worked good for me for several months, but I had stomach aches and diarrhea in the beginning. Then, after several months of taking it, I started getting severe anxiety. I no longer liked this medicine."

Vilazodone for Depression "This made me extremely ill, where I didn't want to eat anything, and my stomach hurt and was swollen. I am still trying to recover from getting this out of my system. I wouldn't recommend it!!!"

Vilazodone "Taken Viibryd off-label for schizophrenia. Some diarrhea and upset stomach that resolved over time. Controls positive symptoms and little but some effect on social anxiety, and decent mood stabilizer."

Vilazodone for Depression "Awesome drug! Lifesaver for me! Once you get past the first 2 weeks of stomach issues, it is awesome. Reduced my depression by 80% with my low days at 50% of the depression I was having."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Switched from Zoloft and so far this drug is really good. I don't have all the side effects like tiredness all the time, and my ED is gone. Zoloft is almost a 30-year-old outdated drug, so it made sense to switch to try this one that came out in 2015. I'm pretty happy with it, and it's only been a week since I have switched. I had some upset stomach, but that's normal with all these meds. Just don't have nearly the side effects, especially the ED that Zoloft caused."
