For Anxiety "I have had social anxiety all of my life. I am a 38-year-old female. My biggest concern taking SSRIs is the sexual side effects. Viibryd had the same effect, unfortunately. I was very hopeful and sadly disappointed. I took Viibryd for 3 weeks, with sexual side effects after one week. On top of extreme nausea and insomnia almost instantly. I could have managed the nausea and insomnia, but no way I can manage a healthy marriage with no orgasm, EVER. So, once again I am searching for an anti-anxiety medication that won't kill sex and my marriage."

Vilazodone for Depression "I started taking Viibryd approximately three months ago. It started out rough, lots of side effects, terrible nightmares every night, electric shocks, visual disturbances, nausea, and diarrhea, among others. I continued with the medicine because I have been on well over 15-20 others over the years. To my surprise, after the symptoms alleviated, I felt much better, a lot less depressed and generally less hopeless. This lasted only about a month and a half, my body has become tolerant to the medication like every other, and now I am in a deeper depression than usual, so I am going back to Wellbutrin."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "I have taken many SSRIs over the years. Recently, I told my doctor that I had taken myself off of Prozac because I was sick of gaining weight unless I starved myself. He put me on Viibryd, and let me say, the weight gain is gone! Unfortunately, that’s because I feel queasy all of the time. Food doesn’t interest me at all, and if I eat a cheese sandwich, I feel bloated for hours. As to mood, I still have suicidal thoughts, but they are less obsessive; more like planning a distant vacation. Taking it in the a.m. makes sleep easier, and I do feel more energetic and positive. It is quite expensive, however, yet after reading these reviews, I’m fearful of possibly horrific withdrawal symptoms."

Vilazodone for Depression "I have been on this medicine for 8 days now and have constant, severe nausea. This is the second night in a row that I have thrown up. My sex drive is back, which is why I switched from Lexapro 10 mg. I am hoping the nausea will go away. I have also gained 3 lbs in these 8 days! Tomorrow I am going to keep a food diary and when I take my medicine to see if I can make any changes. The swelling in my stomach has not gotten better and has been there for 2 days now."

Vilazodone for Depression "Started taking this after Zoloft, which helped my anxiety and mood fluctuations but not my depression. I think I took 10 mg for 1 to 2 weeks, then 20 mg for the same. Then jumped to 40 mg. At first, I took it in the mornings as directed, but it made me uncontrollably tired by mid-morning, so I switched to at night. I had mild nausea/diarrhea in the morning, but it eventually subsided. The first time I noticed a problem was with a skipped dose. I experienced vivid (scary, being attacked by rabid mice) nightmares and sweating. (Never had either before). Drenched 2 separate shirts. I don't feel depressed, but now I feel manic, I only sleep 2 hours a night. I never feel tired on this medication but have to lay down with my 2-year-old for her to sleep, so I get a bit. I feel angry, mean, my skin feels itchy, but like under the surface (it's getting worse the lower I drop my dose). Terrible 45 days."

Vilazodone for Depression "Been on this for about 6 months now, after being on Lexapro 20-30 mg for 18 yrs. I think my mood overall is slightly better now. However, I’ve been having nausea on almost a daily basis. Have had several episodes of vomiting. I’ve been blaming the GI stuff on a recurrent ulcer, but I only had actual stomach pain when I attempted to take ibuprofen. Now concerned the culprit might actually be Viibryd. I don’t really want to try another medicine if I don’t have to. I’m a surgical PA, and it’s extremely difficult to be messing with my meds when I need to focus 10 hrs a day. Anyone have a similar experience? Suggestions?"

Vilazodone for Depression "Medicaid covers this! I'm ending week 3 on Viibryd - 2 weeks on 10 mg, finishing the 1st week on 20 mg. Had lots of tummy trouble after the 1st dose (diarrhea, slight nausea, lots of bloating & gas), but it has lessened, but not good yet. I take it with lunch. (Also on Synthroid - empty stomach in the morning, Wellbutrin - 450/day x 10 yrs) Main other side effects: a bit more anxiety, electric-zappy/restless legs in the evening (getting better), other muscle twitches at first, trouble getting to sleep (worse after dosing up to 20 mg). I do feel a little more energy and a little more positive. Not interested in food during the day after taking Viibryd, mostly due to upset tummy. I get HUGE cravings for sweets in the evening (must be after it wears off)."

For Anxiety "I tried this for anxiety, but unfortunately, it killed my stomach, and I had to stop after 2 weeks. Upon the first dose, I became very nauseous. I moved the dosing time to after my largest meal, but it did not help. My stomach would cramp for 3 hours after taking the pill. It gave me heartburn also. I had zero appetite and could not even think about eating a vegetable for all 14 days. I could only eat very bland foods in very tiny amounts. I have gastritis, and this drug flared it so badly, I had to take Prilosec. If you have stomach/GI issues of any kind, I would not suggest this drug. I would also advise you to check with your insurance on the cost. I was given a sample pack, then called my insurance, and it was going to be $223/month for me."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Horrible medication for me. I’ve been sick for months on this medication and finally just got off—thank goodness! I had so much nausea, bloating, GI upset, and just generally felt unwell. This is one of the worst medications I’ve tried. Now they are putting it on my “allergy” list because my body struggled with it so much. Maybe it’ll work for you and your body. But my body hates it."

Vilazodone for Depression "Was given the starter pack from the doctor, took three days' worth, was nauseous/diarrhea every day, then I got the flu, couldn't keep anything down, so I quit taking it. Started back on 40 mg (doctor's choice) and had nausea/diarrhea again. I only took it a few days because my stomach was cramping all the time, and I was constantly in the bathroom. Back to the doctor on Friday, he is just going to have to give me something else."

Vilazodone for Depression "I have tried so many medicines like Zoloft, Bupropion, Venlafaxine, etc. I talked to my doctor and he decided to put me on Viibryd as a last resort before turning me over to a psychiatrist. He said 80% of his patients had a positive result from taking Viibryd. Only 20% didn't. I have only been on Viibryd for a total of 2 days (counting today), and my mood, irritability, stress, self-motivation, and self-confidence have felt miraculously better. So much so that my husband told me yesterday (1st day of 10mg pink pill) that it was good to have me back for a day. I notice I am not as stressed when stressful situations arise. Yes, I have had side effects: nausea, diarrhea, but I feel overall better."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Took Viibryd for MDD. Had bad symptoms if I was a little late taking the med each day. Was actually without it for a day and a half because I was home as I was sick and couldn't get to the pharmacy, and thought I was going to lose my mind. My whole body itched, I was flushed, nauseated, couldn't concentrate, my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I was sicker from not taking the medication than from the flu I was home sick with! I called my psychiatrist and told him I wanted off the medication. Explained what happened, and we tapered me down. It took about 3 weeks, and it wasn't fun, but I would NOT recommend this medication for that reason alone."

Vilazodone for Depression "Started my dose 7 days ago. The first three days were fantastic, and by day 4, I felt as normal as I have in two years. Now, I am having the racing thoughts, electrical zaps, and insomnia. I was struck with some strange illness 2 years ago that no doctor has yet to explain. My neurological symptoms of the illness have been a challenge at best (constant muscle twitches, head fog, stinging sensations, lack of coordination, sleeplessness, etc.). Well, all of this took a toll on me emotionally as a man. I have 4 children, a wife, and three businesses. I was put on Zoloft 2 years ago and stayed on it for 6 months, but the sexual side effects and the nausea were too much at the higher doses. Hope I can get through the break-in period, and this works."

Vilazodone for Depression "I've read all the reviews and feel so alone with my side effects. I can't stop clenching my jaw, to the point that I don't realize I'm doing it, only to stop and automatically realize I'm doing it again. My jaw is hurting so badly. The other bad one is shivering. I feel like I'm super nervous and very shaky, especially in the AM. I wake up like this every day, like tremors. Yes, I had diarrhea and nausea the first week of 10 mg, but I hung in there. Now I'm on 20 mg, and even though that part is better, the first two I mentioned are worse. I think I'll go back to 10 mg if this doesn't stop. I've tried everything for my depression. I felt I should share my side effects since no one mentioned them. I take it at 6 pm with dinner because it makes me sleepy. I dream more, but no terrors or sleep paralysis. At this point, I just feel like I'm on sedatives, not in a good way. I'm gonna go back to 10 mg and praying for better results. Good luck to everyone. I know how hard it is to find the one that works for you."

Vilazodone for Depression "Female, age 55. Chronic dysthymia with episodes of major depression. Have been on Viibryd for about 4 weeks, ramping up from 10 to 40 mg, as I ramped off Zoloft. I also take Wellbutrin, Ativan, and Ritalin (for fatigue). I have been a Type I diabetic for over 35 years. I had side effects when I began taking Viibryd: nausea (no vomiting), more frequent stools, fatigue, and severe cognitive fuzz-out and difficulty with short-term memory. Anyone else have chills with this med? About 30 minutes after dosing, I typically get very shivery. The effect does not last long and is not severe, but it is very weird! The doctor told me to try taking 1/2 dose of Viibryd at bedtime or with an evening meal, but this did not work because it made me wide awake."

Vilazodone for Depression "Day one, nausea, stomach pain, and when I woke up, horrible body pains, muscle pains, and gas and bloating in the stomach. I am now on day 8, and the body pains are still here. My stomach looks like I'm pregnant at all times. I can't sleep at night, I wake up 3-4 times a night. Nausea is gone, stomach pains are rarely there. Still have dull headaches. Don't know if I have gained weight. I seem to have slight trouble with my breathing. I do seem to be calmer and a bit less depressed, but I don't think it has helped my bipolar symptoms as of yet."

Vilazodone for Depression "I was taking this for anxiety and had a really bad experience with this medicine. I was also told that giving Metformin was not standard practice while taking this. It should be. I wanted to eat my refrigerator and could not sleep. Had nausea, headache, dizziness. I did not have suicidal thoughts."

Vilazodone for Depression "I have been on Zoloft for almost 4 years with the exception of pregnancy, and it seems to do just fine, but after having my daughter, life got ridiculous. After moving around 6 different times in 4 1/2 months, it stopped helping, so a few weeks ago, my doctor put me on Viibryd. The first 2 weeks, I had diarrhea, then severe nausea, and now finishing my first week of 40 mg, I'm having the craziest dreams, and when I don't dream, I feel unconscious and nowhere near rested while still having nausea. I really hope it gets better."

Vilazodone for Depression "I took my first 10 mg dose of Viibryd 7 hours ago with food, and I feel so nauseous. I have diarrhea and a bad headache. I woke from my nap feeling starved with restless legs. I need to eat but am too nauseous. I also feel tight in my chest as if I've taken an Adderall, causing my anxiety to spike, and my jaw feels tight. This is a very powerful medication, and I hope these side effects go away because I do feel more energy, as I've been depressed for years."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "This is a horrible medication. Within months of taking it, I became agitated and very depressed, and my anxiety level was definitely at the top level. Things didn't get better, the longer I was on it, the worse I felt. I had bad side effects: dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, jerking in my body. I started jerking one day and got dizzy and fell and broke my foot and dislocated my heel. It was a bad break, and it's a side effect from that medication. My life went from okay to bad, so after surgery is when I started putting it all together-the why everything started getting so bad. My health problems were so questionable, I didn't know what was going on with my life until I realized those pills. When I first started taking them, that's when one of my problems first began. I had bad nightmares, just things that seemed so real. I couldn't wait to wake up and dreaded falling asleep."

Vilazodone for Depression "This medicine helped for depression. The problem is, the first time I went up to 40 mg, (within 2 hours), I started sweating profusely and was super nauseous. After 5 days of this, I am going to switch medicines. The sad thing is it does help with depression, but I can't handle feeling nauseous all the time."

For Anxiety "I started vilazodone because of the sexual side effects of SSRIs. I have been on meds for depression for almost 30 years. I recently went on vacation and got sick and had to stop because of the nausea that Viibryd causes me to have daily. I feel calmer and have more insight into my problems instead of catastrophizing everything. I had a really bad spring where I really alienated my daughter with obsessive anxiety. I'm not sure why I took it so long. I guess when you are in the middle of something, you don't see it. I still have anxiety, but I'm calmer. I'm on 150 mgs of Lamictal. I had zero withdrawal, but I would check with Dr. I gained 10 lbs when I went from 10 mgs to 20 mgs."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Okay, so today I had a pretty good day, but now I can't sleep. I have taken the 10 mg as directed for 7 days, and it was okay, nothing really changed. My terrible, vivid dreams only seemed to get worse as I keep dreaming about the person that I love, who does not love me in real life (he loves me in my dreams), and when I wake up, I feel like I want to throw up. It is now 5 am, and I cannot fall asleep because I'm scared to have those dreams, and I keep crying hysterically about it. I don't know what to do. I don't like this. I'm 19 years old, and I'm a girl, and I was originally taking Paxil for a whole semester."

Vilazodone for Major Depressive Disorder "Started taking it over the summer on a starter pack. I hate eating, and if you don't eat with this med, you're going downhill. Nausea, vomiting, major headaches, and more black and white BPD symptoms than without. Was placed on Deplin with it, but felt sick all the time. Haven't been back since school started due to other things, and in all honesty, the meds made it hard. Everything was elevated. Nightmares were worse. Little day-to-day events, terrible. A simple manic episode that I was used to? 12 times higher. Really disliked it."
