For Sedation "Committed myself to an inpatient detox for my alcoholism. I was given 50mg of trazodone each night, and within 15-20 mins, I was sleeping very well. Then they upped the dose to 100mg. That was too much for me. Woke up dizzy in the middle of the night but returned to bed, and when I awoke, I felt just fine. When you take this for the first time, make sure you're on your way to bed. I'm 6'3' and 180lbs. This works for me instead of using different OTC drugs. Hope this helps somebody."

For Sedation "I have been taking Trazodone now for over 8 years. I originally started at 50 mg, then went up to 100 and 150. I now take 200 only because I feel I need the added boost after all these years. It works wonderfully. I sleep restfully and feel refreshed in the morning. I sometimes wake in the middle of the night, but the medication puts me back to sleep right away. Nightmares are something that you sometimes experience with Trazodone. I take this medication because I once went for an entire month without sleep and I couldn't cope well. The doctor in the emergency who recommended this drug saved my life. I slept like a baby the first time I took the medication and never looked back since. I'll probably be on it forever."

For Anxiety "My 11-year-old daughter has been taking 50mg of trazodone for nearly a year now. She has Asperger's, and her anxiety used to be through the roof. Her insomnia was so bad that she literally could stay up for days at a time. I was reluctant at first, but it's been a godsend. Her grades at school have improved, and her social anxieties have lessened. The first week of taking them, she was slow to wake up, and we had to allow for extra wake-up time on school days. Her body adjusted, and now there is no morning grogginess."

For Anxiety "I am very sensitive to medication. Even though I've been on almost every psychotropic drug since the age of 5. I take 25mg of Zoloft 1x a day and 25mg of trazodone 4x a day for PTSD, panic attacks, GAD, and insomnia. I had to quit taking my Klonopin due to being pregnant and I thought I might end my life due to the panic attacks and constant dread. Surprisingly, trazodone during the day replaced the Klonopin very well and didn't make me so tired to where I couldn't function like I was worried it might. It slowed my negative responses down and my heart rate down to where I wasn't in panic mode, and it's without the more impulsive side effect some of the benzos can give you. I just feel calmer and happier but not like a different person."

For Depression "I have suffered with severe depression, uncontrollable anger and violent outbursts, paranoia, anxiety, and sleep problems. I have tried several different antidepressants and found they all made me worse or didn't help at all. I've been taking trazodone for 8 months now and my life has totally turned around. I'm on the ball at work, approachable, negativity has gone, it feels like a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders, clear thought processes, friendlier, and my relationship has turned around. I have a future. Amazing all this started with 150mg and now on 250mg of the little magic capsules. Thank God for this medicine, I can sleep easy. I'm normal."

For Anxiety "My MD recommended I start taking 25mg at night to help with my sleep/anxiety issues. The past six months I've been battling anxiety and depression intermittently. The past 4 days have been the best since the attacks started. I really can't say enough. No side effects for me at all."

For Anxiety "Having battled anxiety and insomnia for years, and not wanting to take an addictive drug, trazodone has done wonders for me. I take 200 mg a half hour before bed and then lights out for 8 hours. I used to wake up groggy but that went away after three weeks. Best sleep aid I have ever had. Now, no more anxiety."

For Anxiety "I used to feel vaguely anxious all the time and acutely anxious some of the time - and have trouble sleeping. Now, I feel some anxiety (which is natural if you are 65, single, childless, and have little money!) - but I don't worry and obsess and make Plan A, B, C, D, and E the way I once did. I even feel confident that things will work out! And I sleep through the night...I rarely have trouble falling asleep, so what I usually do is go to sleep, and when I wake up in the night and can't get back to sleep, take it then. This works like a charm for me. The only side effects seem to be occasional dizziness...Trazodone is WAY better than Elavil (HORRIBLE drug) and Lorazepam which kept me spaced out and unable to remember anything."

For Insomnia "Excellent for sleep aid, seems to have a significant effect on anxiety/depression as well. Doctor prescribed for anxiety. I cannot tell if constant anxiety created depression symptoms, or if anxiety is a symptom of depression. Regardless, mood is better with good night's sleep and ability to forget troubles instead of mulling them over endlessly."

For Insomnia "I would feel so sleepy and go to bed, only to find myself still trying to fall asleep hours later. I tried everything you could buy, but nothing worked. I was keeping my husband up most nights, getting up and down, and he finally said, you have to do something. I went to my doctor, and he put me on trazodone. Since the very first night of taking it, I have had no trouble at all. I call it my miracle sleep aid and would highly recommend. It doesn't make you feel dopey or wake up groggy. I give it a 10."

For Sedation "I love Trazodone. I have always had a problem with anxiety and problems sleeping. My PA put me on 50mg at least a year ago. It was a miracle. I'm able to fall asleep and STAY asleep. Something I have struggled with all my life. I'm also a very light sleeper. But the real miracle came when it helped with my anxiety/depression. I'm a new person. I just recently asked for an increase. My PA was surprised I hadn't asked earlier. She upped the dose to 100 mg and I sleep like a baby. It's been a wonder drug for me."

For Insomnia "Have been on 50mg of trazodone for insomnia for years -- I began with 25 mg but went up to 50 about 5 years ago. I have had no difficulty whatsoever with this medication and hope others can get the relief I do. I get dozy in about a half hour after taking it and off I go to Neverland!"

For Anxiety "I have had an issue for many years where I could not shut my brain off when I went to sleep. My doctors had tried Xanax, Valium, sleeping pills (over-the-counter and prescription), and though some worked initially, they did not completely work for me. I was talking to a psychiatrist friend of mine, and they suggested that I try trazodone. After researching it and seeing that it was an antidepressant, I was extremely skeptical and concerned about side effects. I started with 50mg at night, and the first night I took it was the best night's sleep I had in a long time. I am now on 100mg at night and always have a great night's sleep. The only side effect I have is vivid dreams."

For Depression "One of my favorite medicines of all time. I have taken this for depression/bipolar disorder, insomnia, and currently fibromyalgia. It is the only antidepressant I have found that I can take and not start swinging toward the manic side. I actually feel more refreshed and get a good night's sleep after I take it. I will note that I do not normally take it for long periods of time - only when I need it (this may be days, weeks, or months). There is no withdrawal and you do not have to dose up or down with safety concerns."

For Depression "I take 50mg Trazodone before bed. It helps me get a full night's sleep and eases my depression during the day. I don't think I'd benefit from taking it first thing in the morning because it's a very sedating drug. I also find Trazodone to be an effective long-term pain killer. Trazodone doesn't belong to any of the common classes of antidepressants so it doesn't kill my libido like SSRIs and SNRIs tend to do."

For Sedation "I was first prescribed 50 mg to start, but quickly cut my dose to 25 mg because I didn't like the side effects of a foggy head in the morning. That dose worked for me, and I got the most consistent sleep I'd had for a long time. But I was still only getting 5-6 hours of solid sleep. So I eventually bumped up to 50 mg and just force myself to take it ~8.5 hours before I want to get up, so I can get 8 hours of sleep... and in this way, I don't feel groggy in the morning. Highly recommend allowing yourself a good amount of sleep... not just 5-6 hours, more like 7.5 - 9 hours a night."

For Insomnia "I was put on 100 mg, which was far too much for me. I would be tired and in a fog the next day even after a very restful night's sleep. My doctor told me to split the pills in half, and I still got the sleep I needed without the severe drowsiness the next day. Now, I don't have to take it every single night to sleep."

For Insomnia "I have been taking trazodone on and off for about 8 years for insomnia. If I don't take it, I can only sleep for about 2 hours. I take 50 to 100 mg. If I take 50 mg, I get about 5 to 6 hours of good sleep with no side effects. If I take 100 mg, I will get 8 to 12 hours of sleep but have very vivid nightmares that seem very real and find myself thinking about the dreams for several days. Hope this helps."

For Insomnia "I take trazodone, 150mg to 200mg for insomnia. To avoid morning grogginess, I take it at 7 or 8 pm. This gives it more than enough time to get out of my system. Rarely have nightmares, but do have vivid interesting dreams about friends and family! I recommend this medicine for insomnia."

For Anxiety "In the last year I've lost my husband, my job, and as a result, I relapsed. A lot of stress, anxiety, and little sleep. I am now 6 months clean. Began taking trazodone 6 mos ago. After a few months, it was not helping me long term. It would somewhat relax me, I'd fall asleep, but suddenly, I was awoken after about 3 hrs. After communicating that, I was told that because of my weight gain now weighing 198, height (5'3') that contributed to the non-effectiveness, and the fact that on the end of my treatment, I was no longer taking some of the other meds. Anyways, once my dosage was increased to 100mg, and I've felt so at ease, and have slept through the whole night like a baby. Thank God for Trazodone, 2 thumbs up."

For Insomnia "I am literally so thankful for this medication, even though I don't even take it anymore. I took it for 1.5 years. I had horrible insomnia. I was in my first year of med school, and it was getting to the point where my mind was so cloudy, so sick from the lack of quality sleep that I began nearly failing my tests. I had anhedonia, social anxiety, suicidal dreams, no appetite, etc. The first night I took trazodone, my life changed, and all my symptoms washed away. The moment I began sleeping well on trazodone, my grades shot up, my social anxiety was gone, etc, etc. This saved my life."

For Insomnia "I've been taking trazodone for about five years, and it works great for me. At one point, my dose was up to 200mg, but I decided to taper it back slowly because I felt that it was too much. I still get the same effect from just 100mg now. My only annoying side effect is that it sometimes really dries out my mucous membranes (mouth and nose), especially my nose. It's hard for me to fall asleep because I have to breathe through my mouth."

For Insomnia "I rated this some 10 or so years ago when I was first prescribed trazodone for chronic insomnia. 10 years on, I'm still happily taking it every night. I've historically struggled a lot with sleep, and between the ages of 12 - 23, it turned into an absolute monster. Among other fun brain mishaps, I have severe MDD that rules every aspect of my life. Prior to trazodone, being sleep deprived on top of everything else eventually turned into some pretty serious depersonalization and dissociation. I used to take enormous amounts of diphenhydramine every night, which is already an unpleasant experience, and had no sleep-wake cycle. Trazodone makes me genuinely and gradually tired, not sedated. I've cycled through 50-200 mg doses over the years, but my perfect dose is 100 mg. After 10 years, I can confidently say trazodone changed my life. Insomnia is now a monster from my past and one I never expect to revisit."

For Depression "I recently lost my husband and I was prescribed Trazodone for depression. Before this, I was taking Ambien for sleeplessness. I am now off Ambien which gave me bad headaches. Not only am I sleeping better than ever, but my depression seems to be somewhat in check. I do not expect any miracle medicine to take away the pain and sadness of losing the love of my life, but this is more than helping with no side effects at all."

For Anxiety "Love it! Been on it for only a month now, but wow! The other antidepressants only caused my mania to explode and make me stop taking them. Trust me, I've been on a lot of meds. I used to not sleep (maybe 3 hours a night if that) and now I'm sleeping 6-8 on 50 mg of trazodone. I'm not as mad anymore, I can focus, life is just so much better! I would have rated it a 10, but it gives me heartburn and it is a little more sedating in the morning when I'm trying to wake up (can't have caffeine). This medicine is truly a godsend! But, for anyone that has bipolar, this is definitely an add-on to your normal meds. Taking Klonopin, Depakote, and now Trazodone. Life is great!"
