For Fibromyalgia "I have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and have had two back surgeries, the second one 22 years ago. Tramadol did not reduce my neck, shoulder, or lower back pain noticeably. I hadn't recognized that my increased symptoms of nausea, headaches, lethargy, irritable bowels, or poor sleep might be related to the drug. I took myself off tramadol (no warnings from my doctor about side effects taking Ultram or going off Ultram) and felt worse. More nausea, pain, irritable bowels, headaches turning into migraines. Desperate, I changed my diet. Low carbs, lots of green veggies, high protein, healthy fats, small amounts of whole grain rice. Pain is still there, but I feel more in control. I still take Voltaren and Flexeril."

For Pain "One pill makes me sick more than 24 hours regardless of diet and is generally ineffective for pain. Nausea and lack of pain relief were so bad, had to get something that does not cause debilitating nausea, pain relief was not noticeable at all."

For Chronic Pain "I was supposed to take 2 x 50 mg tabs at bedtime. I did, and I had horrible racing heart, nausea, and vomiting, and then a mild headache. Last night, I just took one and had no problems. It didn't get rid of all pain, but enough to be able to get some sleep. I'm not using it every day."

For Pain "Was prescribed 50 mg after getting 4 dry sockets from wisdom tooth extractions and had awful pain for over a week. Unfortunately, I had a bad reaction to this - it made me extremely dizzy from taking 50 mg 2 times (hours after the first dose I still had no pain relief, so I took another - as advised by my pharmacist). Even after that, I got no pain relief, if anything, it made it worse. A few hours after taking my second dose, my heart was pounding, and I started feeling incredibly tired, but every time I fell asleep, I’d wake up from holding my breath. I also had difficulty urinating, and I was dizzy and shaky/weak, nauseous, and had no appetite for about 13 hours after taking the second dose. I had to call Health Link and speak to a nurse who told me to stop taking it because I was having an adverse reaction and that it would leave my system soon. I don’t take any other medications, so I’m not sure why I had such a bad experience, having anxiety probably didn’t help."

For Pain "I try not to use tramadol too often for the pain I experience with my Crohn's and rheumatoid arthritis - only when it is very severe and the strong codeine I already take is not helping - this is down to the negative side effects I experience when taking it. Although it helps with the pain and can help with my mood, I really don't like the overall experience. I find it can make me disorientated; slightly nauseous and with a loss of appetite; blur my vision and make me feel weirdly euphoric (very mildly) in a 'speedy' way; and while some people report sleeping better, I find it has the opposite effect and I suffer insomnia when taking it. The worst thing by far though is the itching! I always forget how bad it makes me itch! 100 mg"

"I started taking tramadol about 3 weeks ago for my club foot pain. Due to my having to walk everywhere and stand at work, nothing was helping the pain. I would take ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc., and it didn’t even take a pinch of the pain away. My doctor decided to prescribe me tramadol 50 mg, and so far it has worked! It doesn’t take all the pain away, but it definitely takes the edge off. The only downside is it makes me incredibly nauseous. I already deal with nausea on a daily basis, but this medication definitely enhances it. I recommend taking something for nausea along with it. The first few days I was really drowsy and tired, but it slowly went away the more I was taking it. I got recommended to take a half but take a full if needed. I definitely needed to take the full, but half might work just as well for other people. But it depends on how much pain you are in. Overall, I think it’s a great medication to take for pain!"

For Pain "I have used tramadol for about 2 weeks for knee, lower back, leg, and foot pain. It has been of slight to moderate help, but nothing to brag about. The main side effects were constipation and dry mouth. I had nausea the first 2 times, but didn't take it with food. I have no nausea or lightheadedness when taken with food since then."

For Pain "Horrible drug. You may get pain relief, which you won't get to appreciate due to the experience that I had when I took it. With it were several side effects: heart palpitations, nausea, disorientation, and general ill feeling. It was awfully scary. My mom had the same bad experience. I would never want my family to take this drug."

For Pain "I had to take a second dose of misoprostol for my missed miscarriage, and the first time was painful, so I asked my doctor for something to relieve the pain, and she prescribed tramadol. I took it in the morning of January 24th, along with the misoprostol and regular over-the-counter ibuprofen that my doctor recommended I take with it. Everything seemed to be fine until I went to bed. I watched maybe 20 minutes of a TV show, then panicked out of nowhere, with my whole body feeling like a jolt, and then I hid, so I would say random paranoia. It scared me because I wasn't in control of my body nor my thoughts since there wasn't a reason for me to feel scared. I woke up at 4 am throwing up with a terrible headache. I woke up again at 7 am with the same feeling. The nausea went away, but I still have a headache two days later. I would be cautious taking this medication."

For Pain "Was prescribed for pain related to colon cancer. Not taking any other meds yet. It arrived at 3 pm today, took two 50 mg tablets. Within 20 minutes, the pain was gone, within an hour, I was high as a kite. Couldn't focus, but felt good. Went to bed at about 6:30 pm (I work graveyard shift), woke up at 10:30 with the worst headache ever and very dizzy. At about 11:00 on my 5-minute drive to work, I had to pull over due to dizziness and nausea. Ended up dry heaving on the side of the road for a few minutes. Started sweating profusely. Finally got to work, still dizzy. Can't focus on my work and having trouble getting my eyes to focus... 12:08, had to stop typing halfway through the last sentence to run to the bathroom to vomit... Will not take more."

For Pain "I was prescribed Tramadol after wrist surgery because I had an allergic reaction to Vicodin. Unfortunately, it seems I cannot tolerate very many medications. Tramadol barely dulled my pain, and it did not even help me sleep. Instead, I developed nausea and dizziness the day after taking it. At first, I didn't connect the nausea and dizziness to Tramadol until several months later when I took it again for severe wrist and back pain and had the same reaction the day after taking it. I wish it would work for my pain, but it seems I only get the negative side effects."

For Pain "I take tramadol 50 mg three times daily for severe carpal tunnel syndrome and recurrent tendonitis. It is the only thing that has helped me so far, and has very few unpleasant side effects for me. I must take it with food, however, or I have nausea. This medication has been a lifesaver for me, it is effective without the spacey feelings of narcotic pain relievers."

For Pain "My orthopedic surgeon decided to prescribe Tramadol 50 mg once every 4-6 hours. This was for preoperative pain relief. I am bone on bone with my right hip. DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for pain. Prior to the Tramadol, I was given Vicodin 5/325 every 6-8 hours for pain relief. When I called back for another script (on schedule), I'm told that I would become opioid dependent and that they wouldn't be able to effectively manage my pain after surgery. First of all, it made me nauseous to the point where it felt like someone poured Drano in my stomach, second, it made me sleepy with zero energy. I'm on warfarin, so I can't take ibuprofen, which works wonders for joint pain, so this is a conundrum... bottom line, Tramadol is useless!!!"

For Pain "Tramadol used on top of my Fioricet or Midrin. For headache was somewhat effective. Used when the pain of the headache has reached a point where I'm on the verge of nausea and vomiting, once the other baseline abortives have failed. When used with the Fioricet/Codeine, it works quite well at knocking it out, otherwise, just Tramadol, even at doses of 200 mg, is only a dent in the pain."

For Pain "I've been having lower back pain since I was about eight. I'm now eighteen, and doctors have finally discovered I have a degenerative disc. There's nothing they can do about it, is basically what they told me. I've now taken tramadol twice. Though it does decrease my pain greatly, I suffer from severe migraines and nausea. I would recommend Percocet. I don't get any side effects from Percocet."

For Pain "Worst possible drug for migraine pain. Did not do much for the pain, worsened the nausea and jacked me up. I could not sleep, was twitching and I am sure if I continued taking pills I would have had a seizure. I generally don’t do well with antidepressant drugs."

For Back Pain "At 8 a.m., I took a 50 mg tablet at the same time as two 2 mg tizanidine (muscle relaxer). Was very dizzy and nauseated all day until 5 p.m. Next day, took one tablet again, but at 5 a.m. Took one tizanidine at 8 a.m. After an hour, I was once again dizzy and nauseated, and it lasted until 9 p.m. Hadn't had any problem with the tizanidine when taking it with steroids, Aleve, and acetaminophen (for back pain). Will not take any more tramadol."

For Chronic Pain "I have cerebral palsy and thus have associated osteoarthritis. I find tramadol to be very good regarding chronic pain. A bonus is that it does not cause the nausea and especially the intense drowsiness typical of opioids."

For Pain "Prescribed for lower back injury. This pill is small and powerful. It took a bit of getting used to. I think it is more powerful than the 5 mg hydrocodone I am prescribed now. I was given 50 mg tablets, one tablet three times a day, but the third pill made me thirsty, very thirsty, and sometimes dizzy, and I had to eat before use or nausea became a serious issue. I took two a day and Tylenol for several months until I began having mild pain in my groin that escalated to numbness. My doctor has me using hydrocodone now when needed, and I use Tylenol for a break from the toxins when needed."

For Chronic Pain "I have chronic pain from fibromyalgia, stenosis in the lumbar area, and osteoarthritis in my back and shoulders. My doctor tried antidepressants and muscle relaxants for the pain at first, but had adverse side effects like high blood pressure and fatigue. The worst was Cymbalta with brain zaps. The tramadol only has the side effect of a little nausea once in a while. I am prescribed 50 mg 3X a day as needed. It helps me to move my stiff body through the day and feel less pain. It is not 100%, but gives relief. My mail-order drug company that sends my meds tried to have my prescription blocked, I had to also go into the doctor's office each time to fill out a paper. My doctor intervened and now I am sent a 90-day supply through the mail-order pharmacy with only problems sometimes with them trying to block the prescription. I do not drink alcohol and am careful to not mix the med with the old muscle relaxants I have on hand."

For Pain "I took one 50 mg pill for menstrual migraine and cramps. About an hour later, I had moderate relief and was able to sleep. But I have nausea and a heavy-headed feeling twelve hours later, leaving me unable to work. Very uncomfortable. I will try 800 mg ibuprofen next time."

For Chronic Pain "A nightmare opioid! Do not take if you have other options for chronic pain. I am 12 hours out from taking a 50 mg dose and have had such intense dizziness, nausea, headaches, ringing ears, and it’s caused me tremors and hypnotic jerks. I cannot sleep no matter how exhausted and desperate I am to, as I am woken up from scary jerks that haven’t gone away 12 hours later. Although it took away my chest pains and other body chronic pains, it’s caused just as much pain from not allowing me to sleep or function properly. I felt so out of it, I was trembling to walk and slurring my words during the day. Skip this opioid if you can unless you want to go through that."

For Chronic Pain "This medicine made me feel absolutely terrible. I was prescribed this to take for migraines, and after dealing with the side effects/withdrawal symptoms... I think I’d rather just deal with my migraine. Nausea, vomiting, itching, heart palpitations, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression, etc. You name it, I was experiencing it. And have been for 3 days. Take at your own risk."
