For Bipolar Disorder "I have had absolutely AMAZING results with Tiagabine. The day I first took it, I was having a mixed-state manic rage. I took 4mg. It hit my anger square in the jaw, and although I was a little sleepy, it completely demolished my anger. Usually, I have 1 or 2 rage episodes a month, but this has not returned. I am able to get angry without feeling frustrated to boot, and this has made me so much more relatable and a more effective communicator. It really is magic how this little tiny 2mg pill can have such a drastic and LARGE effect. Tiagabine is a GABA re-uptake inhibitor. It inhibits the GABA transporter, causing a GABA to last in the synapse. As a consequence I felt that it was very similar to the depressant effect of benzodiazepines, but without dopamine release and consequential addiction issues. So, if you liked benzos, this is a great non-addictive alternative. Take it with buspirone for a more full benzo-like effect."

Gabitril (tiagabine) for Seizures "THE MEDICATION Gabitril IS NEVER IN STOCK! Both CVS and Walgreens have to wait way too long to fill prescriptions, putting patients in danger. This is not a medication you can just stop taking. Every 3 months there is a long delay, wholesaler McKessen (wholesaler for CVS and Walgreens) apparently doesn't receive any of the medication."

Gabitril (tiagabine) for Epilepsy "Began a new drug regimen with a new neurologist due to not being seizure free more than four months for most of my life. When I began Gabitril it was a whole new world. I got very dizzy at first but the longer I took it the more sharp I felt and the less dizzy. After that I went almost five years seizure free."

Gabitril (tiagabine) for Seizures "My daughter has taken this for about 25 years. For most part controlled seizure activity. However 5 years ago had several break through seizures. Got them back under control for 2 years, then another seizure, and another 2 years and another seizure. One she quit breathing and this last one two days ago lasted 45 minutes. All of the seizures in last 5 years have had a strange eye movement with them. I looked up rare side effects today on an odd chance I could learn something and sure enough this is a side effect of Gabitril. Odd that it is showing up now, but maybe because she's been on it so long. I don't want to change but might be necessary. I have to agree with other posting that it is difficult to get, and have found ourselves searching all drug stores in 100 miles to try to get enough pills till the refill at her pharmacy could get them filled. Very Very Scary not to be able to get the prescription when you are so dependent on it. Like they said you can't just quit taking and make up later"
