Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I took Armour Thyroid for the last 10 years. When the formula was changed a couple of years ago, all of the hypothyroid symptoms set in: weight gain, hair loss, etc. My new doctor switched my prescription to NP Thyroid about 6 months ago. Such a huge improvement!!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had RAI (antibodies for Graves and Hashimoto's). It worked for me until they recently retooled the plant. I'm not sure why there is a change in the product, but I've had a dramatic drop in T3/T4 blood test numbers, below the lowest acceptable level. I ache all over. My hair is dry and brittle. I have put on 20 pounds over the last few months. I am so tired! Why did they change something that worked?"

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Progressively got sicker on Armour Thyroid. Abdominal pain and bloating, back pain, brain fog, headache in the morning, dizzy, blurry vision, extreme fatigue, pale skin, weight gain (10 lbs - thin my entire life - never had weight issues), high cholesterol. I've never felt so ill. I finally put 2 and 2 together, stopped taking the meds, and within two days, I started feeling better. I lost 5 lbs in one week and feel like my old self again. Today was the first day in 5 months that my stomach didn't hurt."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I, too, have experienced various hypo symptoms since the back order of 2017: dry hair, hair breakage, and hair loss, weight gain, muscular aches and pains, and depression. The company says that nothing has changed, but I disagree. I tried posting on RLC Labs' site, and they blocked me from posting. That says it all! I found out, from someone who has done a lot of research, that the FDA has made RLC change the formula to call it a 'drug,' and I also found out that one of the ingredients is propylene glycol, a derivative of anti-freeze. I am not quite sure about that, though. I do know that whatever they did since the recall has caused problems for many, many people. I am now going to try a compounding pharmacy that will make up a pill with the same ratio of T3 T4 with only one filler, microcrystalline cellulose. Hopefully, this will finally help me feel better!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on thyroid for 15 years. 8 years before thyroid removal, 7 years after. I started with Synthroid at the beginning, I felt 'normal.' Then it was difficult to get Synthroid, and I switched to Nature Thyroid. Was on that for a very long time, made me feel better, no headaches, didn’t fluctuate in weight. Then the money-hungry pharmaceutical companies decided that we didn’t pay enough for our working thyroid medicine and didn’t make enough. So, I switched to NP. Now I am back to being fatigued all the time, migraines again, weight gain, brain fog, cramps in my legs, the list goes on. When are these pharmaceuticals going to be accountable for screwing with the well-being of hundreds of thousands of people?"

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I started taking this back in July 2022 because my insurance didn't cover Armour. This was a horrible mistake. At first, I didn't notice a huge difference, but within a couple of months, my hair started falling out, I had aching joints and weird back pain that I had never experienced. I gained lots of weight, too. I got my labs done, and they did not show hypothyroid, but all my other female hormones were a mess. I am going back to Armour and praying I go back to feeling like myself."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been taking Armour Thyroid for 10 years, and it has been great. In March of 2021, I started feeling dizzy, old, weight gain, and breaking out in hives. Something has changed with Armour for sure!!! I tried Levothyroxine and was totally exhausted, so back on Armour and hives are all back again. Does anyone know if the fillers changed or something?"

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I was on WP Thyroid last year (2018, from 2016 for about a year and a half) and had the best results ever. Then WP Thyroid was gone, and I went on to NP, which was horrible. Weight gain, mood swings, brain fog, swelling. So, the MD put me on Armour. Not bad; things improved and I leveled out, but the swelling remains (I've had it my entire life in my right lower leg only, and I mean only the WP relieved me of it! It was literally a godsend!). So, when I saw that WP was back in production, I hounded my doc to order it. I've been on it for 5 days, and it stinks. Foot swelling returned with a vengeance, irritability, constipation, headaches! I called the MD after reading reviews on here (which only confirmed what I knew) and said, put me back on the Armour. It seems the formula most definitely has changed for the worse! I was surprised my insurance covered it (it didn't last time!), now I'm imagining why... Don't waste your time with this garbage. It is terrible, in my case!"

For Underactive Thyroid "It took 15 years after chemotherapy treatments to be properly diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I finally found a GP who also practices holistic medicine, and she ran a series of tests that were much more detailed than what regular GPs offer. Although my TSH levels were not too high, I was very symptomatic with severe bloating by the end of the day, a puffy face, lethargy, mood swings, bouts of laryngitis, nightly snoring, and about a 5 kg weight gain. These symptoms had been persistent for years to varying degrees. Within 2 weeks of being administered natural desiccated hormone therapy, there was a big improvement in all symptoms, and 1 year later, they have completely disappeared. I feel 15 years younger."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Like the majority of people, I was given NP when WP was unavailable. Cue sweats, anxiety, weight gain, and utter misery. Crying, can’t function, blurry vision. I’ve taken my first dose of NatureThroid this morning, and voila, I am a different person. I’m holding my body straight, I feel alive/awake, and I feel like I don’t have heavy, puffy eyes."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "On Synthroid for a year post-subtotal thyroidectomy in 2002, gained 17 lbs in just a few months, hair fell out, felt miserable. Switched to Armour in 2003 and got my life and health back. Compounded thyroid is cheaper, so I started using that with no issues until last year, when I was no longer able to get my compounded thyroid as I'm now in the U.K., which only compounds thyroid for animals, not humans. Back on Armour last year and the weight started creeping back up, fatigue set in, cold at night, all the hypo symptoms came back despite my labs looking great. I put on 8 lbs in three months! Switched to Nature Throid and the weight is coming off again, and I feel normal. Forrest Pharma pulled a Martin Shkreli."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I've been on Armour Thyroid for 4 months or so, and I've lost no weight, and I'm tired all the time, also gained weight. Having hot flashes and night sweats, and I've been feeling dizzy. My TSH is low along with my T3 and T4. It's time to switch medicines once again. I've been on 2 other medicines, and nothing is helping me. I'm so frustrated. I need some help, anyone know of a better medicine out there?"

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "It took a full 15 months of treatment plus adding a low dose of an antidepressant and topical progesterone for me to see the full benefits of Armour. I became hypo shortly after menopause, experiencing severe fatigue, sleepiness, a 9 lb weight gain in spite of poor appetite and low calorie intake, dry thinning hair and nails, depression, coldness, no libido. My face took on the typical dull thyroid expression with pudgy features and the outer third of my eyebrows missing. I had high cholesterol, yet my TSH showed normal at 1.9. My GP just said to 'watch it' while I grew progressively worse. After 15 months on Armour, I've finally settled on the right dose and I feel young and great again!!"

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Nature Throid for years and have felt great. My doctor switched me to NP after Nature Throid was recalled. I felt okay at first, and now symptoms are popping up: sore arms, depression, constipation, brain fog, weight gain, puffy skin, and fatigue. This medicine isn't consistent, and not to mention, it smells and tastes like pee. Stop recalling medicine that works for people for pharmaceutical benefit. It's wrong. This stuff is junk."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I gave it 4 stars because I did start to feel better on this medication. I started getting some energy back and felt pretty good. However, the energy boost was not worth the hair loss and weight gain it caused! I really wish I would not have taken it at all!!"

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I was taking 30 mg NP Thyroid, and I had to stop it. I hurt all over, lost most of my hair, and the worst part, I could not breathe. I could only lay around and not walk to do anything. I stopped taking it, and I could breathe better, and the pain in my stomach went away. I am not taking anything now. My weight had also gone up. My insurance won't pay for Armour Thyroid, and my pharmacy will let me buy it for $13.95. It's very bad for me. God bless you all."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Pharmacist substituted Armour RX with NP two months ago. I didn’t notice because I didn’t read the label (12+ years taking the same thing.) Weight gain, headache, equilibrium/balance off, blurry vision, joints ache, picking up a pitcher of water difficult, memory issues. I’ve missed 4 of the last 5 days of work (I rarely take leave) because driving the hour to work is too exhausting. Only realized the switch yesterday when I called the pharmacist to request replacement pills-figured I had a “bad batch” of Armour."

Thyroid desiccated "Horrible medication. I experienced pelvic pain, water weight gain, severe joint pain in my knees, depression, mania, puffy face, profuse sweating, headaches, and bloating. I also had abdominal pain and major chills. I went back on Armour…willing to pay more money. This drug is horrible, the worst experience of my life!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "I started taking NP Thyroid after Naturethroid and WP went on backorder. Didn't know it until now when I restarted WP that NP has been the cause of my hives, itching, and, of course, weight gain over the last 2 years. Restarted WP, and after 2 days, itching went away."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on some form of thyroid for 20 years. First I was on Armour, then Synthroid. But what changed all that was my thyroid cancer diagnosis 6 months ago. They kept me on Synthroid and never told me there was a difference. It seems to me that you need T4 and T3, which Armour provides. I felt so achy after my surgery. Every day my body hurt, and I was so tired and absent-minded. Also, I have had weight gain. Went to a different doctor last week and have switched to Armour. We shall see. The main difference I feel so far is less body aches. That is wonderful to me!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Armour Thyroid 60 mg was okay for about 3 months, then I got edema in my feet and hands. Paresthesia in my leg and face. Horrible nerve problems with trembling, shaking hands. I was dizzy and very depressed, hair loss, weight gain, tiredness, sweating, crying, vision problems-couldn’t drive, freezing. I couldn’t function. All my hypo symptoms were worse than ever. Emergency carpal tunnel surgery. Heart palpitations, high blood pressure. I reduced and then stopped, and symptoms started to go away. Back to Synthroid and am a work in progress again. 5 endo docs and none helped me. They just look at TSH. Good luck, everyone. Stay away from Armour, and Nature Thyroid was just as bad. All my scans and blood work normal. Good luck, everyone."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Been taking Nature-Throid (48.75 mg) for about 2 years now, and feel great as long as I also sleep well, manage my stress, and stay mostly on the Autoimmune Paleo diet. Have been playing around with diet and lifestyle, and if I eat certain things, I notice a rise in TSH, as well as symptoms (brain fog, low energy, and weight gain). I checked it by sticking to the AIP diet for 3 months, and my TSH went to normal range, and I felt normal. It’s not ideal, but worth it to feel good. Also, I always take meds on an empty stomach in the AM."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I've been taking NP Thyroid for the last 6 months and am completely happy with it. It reminds me of what Naturethroid was when I was taking it after getting off Synthroid following a thyroidectomy. Prior to NP, I was given the generic version of NP, which is Levothyroxine/Liothyronine, and felt terrible on it. It reminded me of Synthroid. They were both terrible, the generic version of NP and Synthroid both made my hands and legs swell up. I gained weight on both. If you are on the generic version of NP, then you are NOT taking NP by Acella. I was also on Naturethroid after getting off Synthroid and did great on it, even lost half the weight I gained while on Synthroid, and felt 100% better within just months of being on it. Then a shortage occurred, and that's when I had to switch over to NP. I definitely feel as good as I did when I was on Naturethroid."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "I have been on Armour 180mg almost 11 years. I tried Synthroid first. My TSH was 195, I was 26. When I started, it put me into a major craze. I still don’t know what. It felt like I had bugs crawling in my skin, and I can’t stress enough how horrible it was. I feel like the last 10 years of my life are a blur. I just kind of tolerated it, I lost the weight I gained. Way too terrified to try any other medication after what I went through, I just dealt with it. Fast forward to 2019, I feel terrible despite my TSH actually being a little hyper because of suppressing my goiter. I got from my TSH being 195. I now have gained 50 pounds, my hair is now falling out again. I’m sore everywhere. I barely get out of bed, I can’t think or remember anything. My vision is rapidly declining. I am in such bad shape that I’m actually going to the doctor to ask him to switch me to a T4-only medication to see if this helps. I can’t take being bedridden anymore, it’s got to the point where I cannot even work anymore."
