Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Started on T4, zombie. Then Armour, that went downhill. I was then put on Naturethroid, that went downhill, and I changed to NP last year. I have become insular, don't want to go out much, have gained 2 stone, from a size UK 8 to UK 12. Very irritable, angry. Hair loss has increased (it never really stopped, only slowed up). Skin conditions that went away, granuloma annulare, have flared up. General feeling that if I died tomorrow, I wouldn't care. I am not depressed. Armour is 400 euro a month here in Ireland now, I can't afford that. Don't know what to do? Will try to change to Naturethroid or I guess back to synthetic T4, but will ask for T3 this time around."

Thyroid desiccated for TSH Suppression "I have been receiving natural hormone pellets for the past 6 months and feel great! My blood work showed I had a very low level of thyroid, and I was put on 30 mg in the morning; as a result, I feel so much better. I did gain weight, but I cannot blame it all on the thyroid medication because I received the pellets at the same time. This week, my thyroid medication was increased to 60 mg since my levels were still low, and I hope to stay at a low dosage. I feel greater than before the hormone therapy and try to manage my food portions. I will be buying the book called Thyroid Diet Book to learn more about managing my intake of food. The medication is working for me, and I have not experienced hair loss, and I hope not to."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Horrible! Sounds similar to others' experience. Was switched because NatureThyroid disappeared off the market. Within a couple of weeks, noticed a huge shift. Periods became irregular again, eyebrows thinning, hair falling out, insomnia, mood swings, weight gain... the last straw was a trip to the ER for heart attack symptoms last week. Thank goodness NatureThyroid is available again... and now directly from my ND. Just got back on it yesterday. Looking forward to feeling great again."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Synthroid did not help: zero improvement in quality of life and bad side effects. Have been through all possible medications, none helped, same story as Synthroid. Am now on Armour, 3 grains. Doesn't help at all and gives me side effects: weight gain, hair loss, difficulty sleeping, hyperpigmentation, no patella reflex, brain fog, extreme fatigue, etc. In fact, I feel better, and most of the signs/symptoms are lessened if I take *nothing*, even though my TSH is 90 and my T4 and T3 are undetectable (i.e., no T3 nor T4 in my body). I overwhelmingly prefer taking nothing as that gives me the best quality of life (albeit a pretty poor quality of life). I take medication, Armour, (and suffer) only because my doctors insist that I take medication."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I started taking NP Thyroid in June. For the first week, I felt great, but then I started to notice some of the pills had a terrible odor, and the taste was worse. I have cats, and they smelled like cat urine, as well as my urine. Not every pill had the odor, but the ones that did, that I took, caused me terrible stomach cramps. Then, as time went on, my hair loss was terrible, constipation was 5 days, anxiety, depression, severe fatigue, it all came back as well as hot flashes. I let my doctor know, and he wanted me to have blood work before he made any changes, so after 5 weeks, I had blood work. I got it back, and my T3 was high, TSH low, and T4 was good. Before the blood work, I had blood work done, and the levels I just mentioned were all in range. I stopped it immediately. Unfortunately, my doctor is on vacation, so I can't get any meds like LDN, which worked wonders for me in the past. I am so exhausted I can barely function. I would not recommend this medication to anyone."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I was prescribed NP Thyroid by my GYN, who is also a midlife wellness expert. She also started me on BioTE hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). Since I've been losing hair steadily over the last ten years, I requested something to stop the hair shedding. After taking NP for a few days, my hair started shedding at double the usual rate. Alarmed at the rate of hair shedding, and after research, have stopped this. Also, felt cold hands and racing heart. I will be returning these to the pharmacy for a refund."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I had horrible side effects on Synthroid. My hair fell out, I was lethargic, the side effects almost weren't worth the little good it did. With Nature Thyroid, the inside of my ears itched all the time, and wax production was excessive, and I still lost excessive hair and even eyebrows. With NP Thyroid, I experienced no side effects and an actual improvement in my thyroid function over time."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "Today, I suddenly found out that Nature-Throid medication has been recalled and is no longer available. I've been on it for over a year. However, after reading about the recall, it makes me wonder how long the subpotency has actually occurred because my last TSH values in Feb 2020 were higher than they have been in a long time. I have a lot of symptoms of hypo: constipation, hair loss, brittle nails, fatigue, brain fog, dry skin, etc. However, when my doctor tried to up the dose to the next highest, I had horrible heart palpitations. I'm scared and concerned because I have so many allergies and intolerances. This medication contained no excipients that caused me issues. The only one available like it is Tirosint, which only contains T4. My doctor called it in, and it's not covered by insurance, so I have to go through a specialty pharmacy. I am so angry."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "NDT??? Natural Desiccated Thyroid. My husband asked me why would anyone eat pig poop! He was confused with desiccated vs. defecated. So as it turns out, pig pills are not so natural after all. Made my hair fall out, my urine smelled nasty, and it didn't lower the TSH. I wonder where the pig thyroids come from and that is scary. People like it for a while and then they don't like it anymore. They keep changing the formulation, but remember it's still an animal, and animal products vary. It's not bioidentical and that causes a problem, especially with autoimmune disease. A lot of people continue to use it, but it's potluck. It is impossible to monitor accurate dosing. Good luck with it!"

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "Terrible med. Unbeknownst to me, the pharmacy gave it to me in the place of Armour, which I have been taking for years and works great. I took NP Acella for about a month and a half, and all of my symptoms came back with a vengeance. I gained weight, became fatigued and depressed, started losing hair, couldn't sleep at night, had brain fog, etc. Went back to Armour and was fine again. If I could, I would give NP Thyroid Acella a 0. Also, I wish pharmacists warned us when they replace a prescription."

Thyroid desiccated for Underactive Thyroid "I have no symptoms of hypothyroid, yet my blood work comes back low for the last 6 months. Started taking Nature-Throid, feel no different, and eyebrows started thinning. Stopped for 2 months, went to a new NP, and she put me back on Nature-Throid. Still feel no difference, and within a week, my hair started falling out rapidly, which I've never had happen. So frustrated, going to stop taking, as clearly doesn't agree with me."

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been taking this medication for about a year and love it. However, I got a refill, and I suspect it's bad. I break out in itching fits and hives. My throat feels like there is a knife inserted in it. My hair is falling out."

Thyroid desiccated for Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had my right thyroid removed 4 years ago. They started me out on levothyroxine 50 mg. My side effects were itchy eyes, brain fog, and tired every day around 4:00. The doctor changed my medication to Armour 30 mg and 15 mg. I loved it for 3 years. The start of my 4 years was good until July 2021. Side effects were bad weight gain, brain fog so bad I was having trouble with having a conversation. I was tired too. I just did not put two and two together and realized it was my thyroid medication. Saw the doctor in October, told her my side effects, told her I stopped taking the 15 mg Armour, and the side effects lessened. My blood work came back with my TSH off the charts. She now has me on Armour 30 mg and levothyroxine 50 mg. My side effects now are losing my hair, tired, cold, weight gain. I have only been on this for a month and a half. I am hoping it will lessen over time."

Thyroid desiccated for Hashimoto's disease "If you have subclinical hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's, be careful with NDT! It is most likely too strong for you. My hair fell out, and I felt awful on it, and it raised my thyroid antibodies. I am currently using a compounding pharmacy for synthetic T4 without fillers and a small 5 mcg dose of extended-release synthetic T3 with great results. T3 is the metabolically active thyroid hormone, but you need T4 for your hair, skin, and nails... it’s not all about adrenal fatigue either... NDT is just too strong for subclinical hypothyroidism in these cases."
