For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "It took a full 15 months of treatment plus adding a low dose of an antidepressant and topical progesterone for me to see the full benefits of Armour. I became hypo shortly after menopause, experiencing severe fatigue, sleepiness, a 9 lb weight gain in spite of poor appetite and low calorie intake, dry thinning hair and nails, depression, coldness, no libido. My face took on the typical dull thyroid expression with pudgy features and the outer third of my eyebrows missing. I had high cholesterol, yet my TSH showed normal at 1.9. My GP just said to 'watch it' while I grew progressively worse. After 15 months on Armour, I've finally settled on the right dose and I feel young and great again!!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

For Hashimoto's disease "Was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and felt great. Then went into another Hashi-toxicosis, so TSH increased and had severe hyperthyroid symptoms due to this. My thyroid started to normalize again on Levoxyl, but my primary doctor wanted me to try Armour, so I did. HUGE mistake! I took it only for one week, and it gave me seizures with fear and extreme anxiety, depression, mood changes. TSH rapidly increased, nausea, no appetite, and I started feeling depressed after the very first day taking it. Even after I stopped taking it, I am still dealing with the horrible side effects three months later, especially the anxiety! I never had anxiety, depression, or seizures prior to taking Armour. Stay away from this drug."

"Horrible medication. I experienced pelvic pain, water weight gain, severe joint pain in my knees, depression, mania, puffy face, profuse sweating, headaches, and bloating. I also had abdominal pain and major chills. I went back on Armour…willing to pay more money. This drug is horrible, the worst experience of my life!"

For Hashimoto's disease "This has saved my life. I was on Levothyroxine for 8 years, and it didn't help my fatigue, pain, insomnia, or weight. I've been on WP Thyroid for 5 months and have lost 36 pounds and am no longer at risk for diabetes, and feel like a new person. I still struggle with depression and anxiety, but I feel this medication is amazing."

For Underactive Thyroid "NP Thyroid was prescribed for me for the first time, so I have no other meds to compare to. The first 4 days, energy, positive weight loss. 2 weeks, my hair feeling dry & breaking. Shortly after this, hair is falling out from the root in GREAT amounts! I have fine hair and really cannot lose anymore. My doctor said to cut my 30mg dose in half. This didn’t help, my hair continued falling out. Finally, she said to go off completely. I was on this for one month, 5 days. After going off, I got weepy, depressed, and felt worse than before I started. It’s been 15 days since stopping the NP, and my hair isn’t falling out as much. I’m not feeling as weepy anymore. I have some weird dry bumps on my scalp that just started since this med, and I have a dermatology appointment for that next. The pills smell like urine. I thought that was normal as well. I am going to be very apprehensive about trying another medication. But for now, still dealing with the aftereffects of this horrible medication."

For Hashimoto's disease "Armour Thyroid 60 mg was okay for about 3 months, then I got edema in my feet and hands. Paresthesia in my leg and face. Horrible nerve problems with trembling, shaking hands. I was dizzy and very depressed, hair loss, weight gain, tiredness, sweating, crying, vision problems-couldn’t drive, freezing. I couldn’t function. All my hypo symptoms were worse than ever. Emergency carpal tunnel surgery. Heart palpitations, high blood pressure. I reduced and then stopped, and symptoms started to go away. Back to Synthroid and am a work in progress again. 5 endo docs and none helped me. They just look at TSH. Good luck, everyone. Stay away from Armour, and Nature Thyroid was just as bad. All my scans and blood work normal. Good luck, everyone."

For Hashimoto's disease "I switched from Synthroid to Armour last year and felt better for the first couple of months. I've had an on-again, off-again scalp itch/rash that I could not figure out for the life of me. About 6 months into Armour, I was overwhelmed by all my symptoms: fatigue, depression, low libido, joint pain, and the scalp itch/rash just would not go away. My endo let me try a 30-day supply of Tirosint, and the rash went away, and I felt so much better. Just to test my theory, I went back to Armour after the 30 days. Very quickly, I realized it was DEFINITELY the Armour, and I'm going back to Tirosint. Armour is SO much cheaper, but not worth it!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I was taking Levoxyl for 12 years and doing fine. Then went into another Hashitoxicosis due to either progression of Hashimoto’s or extreme stress. After several months of trying to get my thyroid stable again, it finally started to level out with Levoxyl. My Dr. suggested I try Armour, so I did. HUGE mistake!! From the first day I took it, I felt something was off, and I only took it for 7 days - depressed, nauseous, low pulse, tired, felt cold, allergic reaction with fever blisters, itchy rash, and swollen eyes. On the 7th day, I started having seizures, extreme severe anxiety, depressed, I felt like it was causing a mental issue/breakdown/extreme nervousness and fear. I NEVER had seizures or anxiety or depression before the Armour. My TSH increased rapidly, and T4 decreased just two weeks after I started taking it. Went back to Levoxyl. Three months later, and I’m still having anxiety and trying to recover from the extreme damage it caused."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Walmart pharmacy substituted NP for Armour thyroid. It makes me very depressed, sleepless, and fatigued. It makes me angry because they did this without my permission after I told them before that I didn’t want NP because of the same issues before. I would avoid NP!!!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "NP Thyroid med makes me feel very depressed. Very emotional, dizzy, feel like I'm dying. I can't sleep. Always hurting all over my body. Urinary tract infection out of nowhere. I'm going to the doctor ASAP to tell him to get me off these meds."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had a total thyroid removal in February and was started on Levothyroxine 125 mcg. In March, my TSH was 7.5, so my NP increased it to 175 mcg. I began to have terrible side effects and possible allergic reactions. She switched me to a low dose of Armour. I was feeling terrible after a week. My TSH had increased to 32.9. She increased my dose to 60 mg twice a day. I started having horrible side effects, depressed, anxious, BP increased, very irritable, could not sleep. I stopped taking it for 24 hours and already feel better. Now I will have to try something else."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 2 years ago, had been having a lot of stress in my life. I have never been fatigued, but did have weight gain, I gained 20 pounds and had a moon-sized face. I thought that it was grief (lost husband). I am also a nurse. I was put on Synthroid 75 mcg and felt worse, hair started falling out, felt like I was in a dream all of the time, no weight loss, and depression. Told my endo that I felt bad and he ignored me. That's when I started digging into what to eat (I am already a vegetarian), taking supplements, and all of this helped. I went to a family practice doctor and demanded Armour. Felt great for the first two months. I started having the fight or flight feelings. I am now hyperthyroid. Two weeks on lower dose and have lost 15 pounds."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have low T3 syndrome. NP Thyroid is the only thyroid medicine that works for me and my family. I'm not sure what is causing our T3 to tank out, but so far this is the only thyroid medicine that works, and it's like a night and day difference for us. I have energy, I sleep, joint and chest pain have stopped, and depression symptoms have lifted. I would recommend anyone searching for thyroid medicine to try one until their symptoms change. My numbers became 'normal' with other thyroid medicines, but this is the only one that fixed my actual symptoms."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking NP Thyroid in June. For the first week, I felt great, but then I started to notice some of the pills had a terrible odor, and the taste was worse. I have cats, and they smelled like cat urine, as well as my urine. Not every pill had the odor, but the ones that did, that I took, caused me terrible stomach cramps. Then, as time went on, my hair loss was terrible, constipation was 5 days, anxiety, depression, severe fatigue, it all came back as well as hot flashes. I let my doctor know, and he wanted me to have blood work before he made any changes, so after 5 weeks, I had blood work. I got it back, and my T3 was high, TSH low, and T4 was good. Before the blood work, I had blood work done, and the levels I just mentioned were all in range. I stopped it immediately. Unfortunately, my doctor is on vacation, so I can't get any meds like LDN, which worked wonders for me in the past. I am so exhausted I can barely function. I would not recommend this medication to anyone."

For Underactive Thyroid "Armour Thyroid for many years with no issues. Armour became difficult to get, and a couple of years ago my doc switched me to Nature Throid. I had no issues. About a year ago, my prescription was filled with NP Thyroid. Since then, I've had horrible body aches, brain fog, depression, and bad anxiety. I literally thought I was going crazy! I've always been happy and outgoing. After many, many days of researching, I found comments and reviews that stated people on NP Thyroid feeling the same way I was. I've now been off all thyroid medication for over a month, and while tired, constipated, and other normal hypothyroid symptoms, I feel better. No longer crazy, anxious, and depressed. My body hurts some, but nothing like when taking this stuff. My doctor has now prescribed Nature Throid again, and I will start it tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting my life back, laughing again, and being able to think and function. Stay away from NP Thyroid!!!!"

For Hashimoto's disease "Terrible med. Unbeknownst to me, the pharmacy gave it to me in the place of Armour, which I have been taking for years and works great. I took NP Acella for about a month and a half, and all of my symptoms came back with a vengeance. I gained weight, became fatigued and depressed, started losing hair, couldn't sleep at night, had brain fog, etc. Went back to Armour and was fine again. If I could, I would give NP Thyroid Acella a 0. Also, I wish pharmacists warned us when they replace a prescription."

For Underactive Thyroid "I could only last 10 days on NP Thyroid. I became so much more exhausted I couldn’t get myself out of bed. Increased brain fog. Increased headaches. Increased depression. Increased water retention. Stomach became bloated and developed constipation. I’ve been off of it for 5 days and still feeling off. I’m very sensitive to drugs, but this has never happened to me with other thyroid medications."

For Thyroid Cancer "I was on synthetic thyroid meds for over 10 years after thyroid cancer. My levels looked fine, said the doctor, but I clearly wasn’t. You’re depressed, said the other doctor. Having had thyroid and then immediately breast cancer, well yes, I guess I am depressed! Loaded me up on antidepressants. I guess I feel better? I know I’m supposed to, but I wasn’t living, I was surviving, and that was a chore! Finally threw myself at the doctor’s feet bawling and said PLEASE treat ME, NOT the lab work!!! Wow, here comes Nature-Throid. My life began again after 10+ years!! Yippee! After a year of finally feeling like myself again, it was recalled. Right back to feeling like I just can’t drag myself out of bed, and that is NOT me!! WHAT is everyone else doing without our wonder drug? The pharmacist told me last week he’s pretty sure it isn’t coming back!! I can’t imagine the rest of my life feeling like this!!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Nature Throid for years and have felt great. My doctor switched me to NP after Nature Throid was recalled. I felt okay at first, and now symptoms are popping up: sore arms, depression, constipation, brain fog, weight gain, puffy skin, and fatigue. This medicine isn't consistent, and not to mention, it smells and tastes like pee. Stop recalling medicine that works for people for pharmaceutical benefit. It's wrong. This stuff is junk."
