For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been on thyroid for 15 years. 8 years before thyroid removal, 7 years after. I started with Synthroid at the beginning, I felt 'normal.' Then it was difficult to get Synthroid, and I switched to Nature Thyroid. Was on that for a very long time, made me feel better, no headaches, didn’t fluctuate in weight. Then the money-hungry pharmaceutical companies decided that we didn’t pay enough for our working thyroid medicine and didn’t make enough. So, I switched to NP. Now I am back to being fatigued all the time, migraines again, weight gain, brain fog, cramps in my legs, the list goes on. When are these pharmaceuticals going to be accountable for screwing with the well-being of hundreds of thousands of people?"

For Underactive Thyroid "Started taking NP Thyroid about 3 weeks ago. I was taking WP Thyroid due to recall, no longer available. I have chronic Lyme and co-infections. I've been feeling a lot better lately. About 2 weeks ago, I started feeling very anxious, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, severely depressed, brain fog, muscle pain/aches, and the list is endless. I really thought it was one of my co-infections coming back. Paid $580 to get tested for it, and I was negative. Couldn't figure out what was causing all of this until I Googled NP Thyroid, it smells like cat pee. I will no longer be taking it. I don't know what to change it to, I see my doc on Monday, I hope to get it sorted. Please don't touch this stuff."

For Underactive Thyroid "Was doing well on Naturethroid, up until they seemed to change the formula. So switched to NP. Fatigue okay, but brain fog much worse, painful joints, stiffness in muscles, and leg pain that feels similar to restless legs. The worst symptom though is headaches-constant. Am now experimenting with altering my dose (again!), but I’ll have to swap to Armour, I think. I’m in the U.K. Getting hold of NDT is like finding a unicorn. I despair. I wish Naturethroid had never changed. I know they deny a reformulation, but it worked like a dream for me before their manufacturing issues, and I felt well. Now I’m back in the hypo pit, and it’s dreadful."

For Underactive Thyroid "I am suffering from incredible brain fog, dizziness, and confusion that are so severe that I have nearly fallen off the steps three times. I also experience other symptoms that other women have written about, such as difficulty breathing, constant nose dripping, sneezing, and fluctuating body temperature. Additionally, I sweat profusely while sleeping and have the worst body odor. For me, it took some time to build up in my system. Initially, I felt slightly better, but it quickly became horrendous. I am grateful to have found this website. Like many others on Nature-Throid, I have not been on any medication for a couple of years. For Underactive Thyroid "I was on WP Thyroid last year (2018, from 2016 for about a year and a half) and had the best results ever. Then WP Thyroid was gone, and I went on to NP, which was horrible. Weight gain, mood swings, brain fog, swelling. So, the MD put me on Armour. Not bad; things improved and I leveled out, but the swelling remains (I've had it my entire life in my right lower leg only, and I mean only the WP relieved me of it! It was literally a godsend!). So, when I saw that WP was back in production, I hounded my doc to order it. I've been on it for 5 days, and it stinks. Foot swelling returned with a vengeance, irritability, constipation, headaches! I called the MD after reading reviews on here (which only confirmed what I knew) and said, put me back on the Armour. It seems the formula most definitely has changed for the worse! I was surprised my insurance covered it (it didn't last time!), now I'm imagining why... Don't waste your time with this garbage. It is terrible, in my case!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Like most with the WP/Naturethroid shortage, was switched to this drug back in 2017. On it 4 months; 120 mg/2 grains in the am, and 30 mg/a half grain in the afternoon. Managed to get back on Naturethroid right when it became available again in early 2018, not the greatest as they reformulated it and my levels were low, but at least no side effects. When my prescription for it ran out recently, I had no insurance to see my doctor again yet, and so had no choice but to take something I already had on hand. This time, after 6 hours of taking the first dose of NP, I experienced the most profound sadness/deep depression, complete with crying spells. It lasted for hours; I was in bed crying my eyes out for no apparent reason. Not like me! And that’s not all. Headache, dizziness, anxiety, heart pounding, feeling like I was going to pass out, diarrhea, vision problems, confusion/disorientation/brain fog, no appetite, “wired but tired” feeling, shortness of breath...what a list, good grief!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I was on Armour Thyroid for many years. Pharmacy recommended NP because of the price difference, so switched me to NP, and I noticed extreme flu-like symptoms, headaches, hair loss, insomnia, swelling (even facial swelling), all-over body pain, and constant exhaustion. I asked to be switched back to Armour after a month of misery on NP, and to please make note on my account to NEVER give me NP again because of the terrible reactions. After new blood work, I unknowingly was given NP again and took it without realizing that it wasn’t Armour. My life became a living nightmare! The anxiety attacks have been awful. My nails break easily, hair falls out in alarming amounts, continuous dull headaches accompanied by brain fog that has been very concerning. The feeling of exhaustion is unbelievable, and I cannot sleep. Joint pain, miserable indigestion and reflux, profuse sweating, inflammation, and muscle aches. My energy is ZERO, and the crying makes me feel crazy! NP Thyroid is HORRIBLE!!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been on Nature Throid for years and have felt great. My doctor switched me to NP after Nature Throid was recalled. I felt okay at first, and now symptoms are popping up: sore arms, depression, constipation, brain fog, weight gain, puffy skin, and fatigue. This medicine isn't consistent, and not to mention, it smells and tastes like pee. Stop recalling medicine that works for people for pharmaceutical benefit. It's wrong. This stuff is junk."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

For Underactive Thyroid "Please be careful with this medication. I am barely putting it all together this morning. I was on NatureThroid for a while. I lost weight but was jittery. So my doc changed me to NP Thyroid. For 3 months, I noticed I was starting to gain weight and became extremely tired in the afternoon but thought nothing of it. Then I had my prescription refilled on 1/27, and on 1/31 everything came crashing down. I woke to my body buzzing like slight electrocution. My anxiety went through the roof, ringing in my ears (like loud buzzing), inability to focus, complete insomnia. I would wake at 12:45 every night extremely hot like a hot flash and couldn't go back to sleep (thyroid regulates body temperature). I was a zombie! I took myself off this stuff and am recovering SLOWLY because it screwed with my adrenals too. Thyroid and adrenals are linked. Awaiting blood test results to see where to go next."

For Hashimoto's disease "I was on Armour Thyroid as was doing okay. Not great, but certainly better than when I was on Synthroid. Then my pharmacy changed my prescription to NP Thyroid from ACE without telling me, and I have been horribly sick to my stomach, headaches, exhausted, confused, and foggy-brained. No medicine is worth this."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have been taking Armour since Feb 2014. No significant weight changes (47 yo) in past years. Suddenly had foggy brain in December 2018. Retested, and my Endo changed my dose up by 7.5 mg, which helped. I have been recently experiencing the same effect in the last 2 months. My Endo says my levels are normal, I certainly don’t feel normal, though. I will be going in soon for reevaluation. Not sure Armour is normal levels...."

For Hashimoto's disease "Been taking Nature-Throid (48.75 mg) for about 2 years now, and feel great as long as I also sleep well, manage my stress, and stay mostly on the Autoimmune Paleo diet. Have been playing around with diet and lifestyle, and if I eat certain things, I notice a rise in TSH, as well as symptoms (brain fog, low energy, and weight gain). I checked it by sticking to the AIP diet for 3 months, and my TSH went to normal range, and I felt normal. It’s not ideal, but worth it to feel good. Also, I always take meds on an empty stomach in the AM."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started on Armour 2 months ago. I was on levothyroxine for 3 months. I feel like my fogginess is gone (I call it being airheaded:). I'm still in the beginning phase, but has anyone lost any weight on these pills??? I watch my diet and exercise (hired 2 different trainers), but have been stuck on my weight. I feel heavy and tired. Supposedly, I'm 25-30 pounds overweight. I know if I lose weight, it will help with my energy. I'm supposed to do blood work next week. If my numbers are normal, I think I may try to do a full hormone blood panel test and pay out of pocket."

For Hashimoto's disease "Loved NP Thyroid but then started feeling really ill. Migraines, fatigue, nausea, joint pain, brain fog, etc. This was my lifesaver and now just horrible. My doctor switched me to medication from a compounding pharmacy. So disappointed in Acella Pharmaceuticals for changing what was a wonderful product."

For Underactive Thyroid "The newest lab tests show that my thyroid is way off, and I feel like something has gone wrong, starting the last few years. When I try to meditate/rest, every cell in my body is screaming at me that something is wrong. So, after a dozen doctors and lab tests, I changed MDs and switched off Nature-Throid. Email from 2017 regarding the issues I was having with my prescription for my thyroid. Nov 25, 2017, got one new bottle of RLC Nature-Throid, and I had some of the older RLC Nature-Throid from Rite Aid leftover, enough that I can taste a difference between the new bottle and the previous bottle from RLC Lab. I have been double-checking this for a week and noticing a difference: I noticed I have uncomfortable brain fog, lower energy. I was taking it as prescribed, 130 mg. I called RLC Lab and they changed to robots and had troubles."

For Underactive Thyroid "I started taking NP Thyroid in April of 2021, so a little over 7 months. I have gotten married and all in this time being on the new med. I literally felt like I was dying with the amount of panic and anxiety attacks I was having, not feeling myself, brain fog, feeling doomed, exhausted, overwhelmed, and overall just off. Instead of checking on the thyroid medication, because I have taken a few different kinds since I was 11 years old when I was originally diagnosed (I’m 35 now) and never having any side effects, I completely regret it. I literally thought I was losing my mind. The waves of emotions along with the ups and downs were just brutal. I had complete loss of my sex drive along with any feelings at all. I thought that it was stress from work and my wedding, thought I had a mental breakdown. I went as far as to see a therapist and then a psychiatrist, trying multiple medications to fix this. For Hashimoto's disease "Switched from other brand after moving to a naturopath Dr. to help with my Hashimoto's. I really would not recommend Thyroid NP. For the last 2 years, I’ve had stomach burning, enough to make me think it was an ulcer, and loss of eyebrows and hair on my head, absolutely zero energy, leg aches, weight gain, and a massively foggy brain as of lately… I’ve been off for 3 days, and I can already feel the difference. Leaving my naturopath and heading back to my regular Dr. for Synthroid. I didn’t connect the dots until recently. And this stuff is not regulated well, it had 3 recalls in the last year… that’s not good."

For Hashimoto's disease "This medication has had the adverse effect for me. After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's, my doctor expected that this medication would help me with brain fog, energy, and tiredness. I experienced the opposite. Within a few days of taking the 60 mg dosage, I felt worse. I began sleeping extremely heavily, had a huge amount of trouble waking in the morning, and could barely keep my eyes open past 8:30 pm each night. I gained five pounds in two months even though I had improved my eating habits and exercise. I began getting these dull headaches on the top of my head. I became extremely irritable with everything, which is not my normal disposition. My doctor told me to stop taking it immediately and is prescribing Nature-throid. We'll see how that goes."

For Underactive Thyroid "Do not take this medicine! I have been on it for a month. My head is all foggy, and it popped in my head today to check the side effects of this drug. I can't walk straight, my head feels like I have some sort of sinus infection. I wake up several times a night. It is like I am drunk! Thank God I checked the side effects. For Hashimoto's disease "Synthroid did not help: zero improvement in quality of life and bad side effects. Have been through all possible medications, none helped, same story as Synthroid. Am now on Armour, 3 grains. Doesn't help at all and gives me side effects: weight gain, hair loss, difficulty sleeping, hyperpigmentation, no patella reflex, brain fog, extreme fatigue, etc. In fact, I feel better, and most of the signs/symptoms are lessened if I take *nothing*, even though my TSH is 90 and my T4 and T3 are undetectable (i.e., no T3 nor T4 in my body). I overwhelmingly prefer taking nothing as that gives me the best quality of life (albeit a pretty poor quality of life). I take medication, Armour, (and suffer) only because my doctors insist that I take medication."

For Underactive Thyroid "Armour Thyroid for many years with no issues. Armour became difficult to get, and a couple of years ago my doc switched me to Nature Throid. I had no issues. About a year ago, my prescription was filled with NP Thyroid. Since then, I've had horrible body aches, brain fog, depression, and bad anxiety. I literally thought I was going crazy! I've always been happy and outgoing. After many, many days of researching, I found comments and reviews that stated people on NP Thyroid feeling the same way I was. I've now been off all thyroid medication for over a month, and while tired, constipated, and other normal hypothyroid symptoms, I feel better. No longer crazy, anxious, and depressed. My body hurts some, but nothing like when taking this stuff. My doctor has now prescribed Nature Throid again, and I will start it tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting my life back, laughing again, and being able to think and function. Stay away from NP Thyroid!!!!"
