Sertraline for Major Depressive Disorder "I would like to share my honest review of Zoloft. I was depressed, anxious, and had tremendous amounts of social anxiety since my childhood. I had no history of substance abuse, I was in a foreign land, and at the age of 23, I was diagnosed with BPD. I was in therapy too, but it didn't help much. Finally, my psychiatrist prescribed 150 mg of Zoloft with a starting dose of 50 mg. The first 2 days were a nightmare, and later on, I stuck with the doctor's advice and gradually upped my dose to 150 mg. I started to love myself a lot after 75 mg, people around me started to notice a difference, and I'm a lot happier. It has now been 6 years on Zoloft, but I cut my dosage to 75 mg. I'm married and blessed with a kid. Cons: highly lethargic, weight gain was 20 pounds, and in just 3 months, I went bald."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I’m posting this to shine some hope for people who are trying to find relief from anxiety and depression. I have been severely depressed for well over 2 years-tried neurofeedback, TMS, and about a dozen different medications. I’ve been in the day program (psych) and had two stints of medical leave from work. I’ve been suffering more than I know how to express in words, basically hanging on by a thread for the last year or so. I’m 3 weeks into Zoloft and I feel more like myself than I have in years. I laugh easier, I can express my thoughts and, more importantly, I am actually having thoughts, and they aren’t all crappy ones! There’s a slight backup in my GI system, but other than that, no horrid side effects. The first few days, I was exhausted and a bit restless, but it was transient. I am feeling so grateful for finally landing on a med that works for me. Please hang in and know that there’s a solution out there. Keep fighting. You are worth it."

Sertraline for Depression "Before taking this, my hands and feet were always so cold, my depressing mood I just could not shake off. I was irritable and hopeless, like a drone, living day to day. I finally turned to my doctor for help. It surprised me to find out that my being cold, even in the heat of the summer, had to do with anxiety! Within the first day of taking this medication, I felt instant relief. The will to live flowed in my veins right down to my fingertips and toes. I feel alive again, no longer cold, no longer hopeless. I am happy to be me and so very thankful that this type of medication exists! It's obvious by this board that it helps a lot of people just like it helped me. One symptom: Yawning! So, I go outside for deep breaths of air."

Sertraline for Social Anxiety Disorder "I started this two months ago to help with my light depression and anxiety problems as a long-term replacement for Xanax. So far, I haven't had to use my Xanax in almost a month. I didn't think this would do much, but I was wrong. The first two to three weeks, I had some mild nausea and tiredness, but that went away pretty quickly."

For Depression "I've been taking sertraline for about 3 months now and feel so lucky with how well it's worked for me! In the first week or two, I felt a bit more tired and nauseous, but now the only side effect I have is my boobs have gotten bigger :) My moods are stable, not depressed, anxious, and suicidal anymore. I really never thought I'd feel like this again :) Different medications have different effects on people, but I would really encourage everyone to keep trying to find the perfect fit :) Also, I never actually stopped drinking, etc., to follow what the medication recommends, and this time I did, so maybe worth trying that as well :) I really hope everybody manages to find a medication that works for them like I have. :)"

Sertraline for Major Depressive Disorder "I’ve suffered from serious depression since I was about 11, but always refused treatment because I’m against any kind of drugs and I was afraid I would lose myself and become a zombie instead, and I didn’t want that. But now in my 30s, feeling very suicidal, waking up anxious every day, heart racing nonstop, always crying and not being able to do anything really without being panicky and ridiculously self-conscious, relationship failing because of my head, I was at the end. Started on 25 mg of Zoloft, and from the first day, no crying. No depression or anxiety, no reactive emotions anymore. From the first day. Didn’t think it would work from the first day, but it has, and I’m blown away I didn’t start this sooner. Side effect (very tired though) definitely worth it."

For Anxiety and Stress "My doctor started me out on 25 mg a day for a week, then 50 mg a day after that. The first 3 weeks were not good-symptoms became somewhat worse. However, I had read enough reviews to understand that I needed to stick with it. After the 4th week, I could tell I was not nearly as anxious and worrisome but still didn't feel 100%. My doc upped the dosage to 100 mg a day, and it's the perfect dose for me. Stay with this drug! It has really helped me! At first, I had diarrhea for a few days, but that's gone. I yawn even when I'm not tired and catch myself clenching my jaws, but I will tolerate that to feel like myself again. Oh, I also had mild depression, which this drug also helped. Hope this helps someone else."

Sertraline for Major Depressive Disorder "My psychiatrist added Zoloft to my Adderall and Wellbutrin XL. It took two months for the Zoloft to take full effect. I started the Zoloft the last week of November and took till the middle of January for the full effect. In the beginning, I felt exhausted when I took it. I waited it out patiently. It's amazing when Zoloft kicked in with my Wellbutrin XL and Adderall. I feel calmer, happier, and more in control of my life and emotions. I think before I act, and my thoughts are so much clearer. It is great. I am bipolar II with ADHD. These medications may not work for everyone, but from my experience, I feel more in control of myself and my emotions."

Sertraline for Depression "I've been on Zoloft for 2 months for depression and anxiety. The reason I don't give it top grades is that I don't have anything else to compare it to. Started 1 week on 25 mg and then moved to 50 mg. The first two to three weeks, the side effects were the same people describe: headache, tiredness, stomach issues, death thoughts, lack of appetite. After that, the first sign was no more tears, less anxiety for eating, my emotions went away, social anxiety too, fear and death gone too. Calmness, ability to focus on the now, lower PMS, ability to focus and interact. Some days are still hard, but it takes less for me to cope with them. I didn't know life could feel this way. Side effects: lower sex drive and return of big appetite and weight gain."

Sertraline for Panic Disorder "I was just like all of us on here looking through the comments, scared to death to start. I have had panic disorder, anxiety, and OCD issues for the past 5 years. I could not drive far, I never went to social gatherings, stayed home for work, and made every excuse for why I could not drive to the office. At one point, I could not even walk my dog down the street. I was always at the doctor's and the emergency room. I have been in therapy for 2 years. I finally gave up my tactics that were not working and started Zoloft. I was originally prescribed 50 mg, and I was supposed to titrate up to 100 mg. I started at 12.5 mg. I stayed on that dose for 3 weeks. I had awful side effects, and you will too. I was so tired and had awful headaches, nausea, and diarrhea. The worst part about it was it made my anxiety and panic go through the roof. I am now on 37.5 mg, and my anxiety and panic are almost gone. Take it. It’s going to suck at first, but it will change you for the better."

Sertraline for Panic Disorder "I've been on Zoloft since I was 21, and I'm now 31. One day I woke up with intense crying, depression, anxiety, fear of family and friends dying, and self-harm. My personality is one of a very happy-go-lucky girl, and I refused to live with this nightmare. So my doctor put me on 50 mg Zoloft. It took about a month for it to work, and I had the tiredness, yawning, feeling completely out of it, to waking up and feeling amazing. I have tried to come off Zoloft throughout the years, and man, the side effects suck! Intense anxiety, feels like your brain is exploding and vertigo. If you do decide to come off, make sure you're under the supervision of your doctor. To this day, Zoloft has helped me, and I will be on this for the rest of my life."

For Anxiety and Stress "The first week on sertraline kinda sucked. I was tired and felt strange. It does take about a month or two to really work. Before taking the medicine, I started with mild anxiety that manifested to panic attacks while driving. I never had these issues and think they were caused by stress from a horrible job I had. They became so bad that I stopped driving altogether. Then I was unable to go inside any business without the look for an exit type fear. Well now, I am back to driving everywhere and shopping. I feel like I have my life back together again. Again, it does take a few months to work. Personally, I feel that it had taken the physical symptoms away and helped my mind with the worries."

For Depression "I began taking this medicine 7 weeks ago. I was feeling really anxious and extremely low with depression. I wasn't washing at all, or caring for my home. I wasn't coping at all. The first 2 weeks, I felt nausea and extreme tiredness. I'm on week 7, and I've broken my 50mg tablet into 2 pieces, and I'm feeling a lot better. More positive. No anxiety at all. Looking forward to the future. I'm applying for different job roles, and I'm enjoying the small things again. My family has seen a difference in me. I'm not crying anymore, and the overthinking is gone. Mental illness is very hard and destructive. Get the help and try this drug. It just feels like my mind has been unscrambled."

Sertraline for Depression "Zoloft was the first antidepressant I tried, and it worked well enough that I stuck with it. The first 2-3 weeks were difficult. I found myself yawning constantly, extremely drowsy, having no appetite, nauseous when I did eat, thinking about doom and death. But those were side effects that all eventually subsided. I feel a lot better because I have more control over my emotions and anxiety. I cry much less now and don't lie in bed at night thinking about suicide as much anymore. I went down in dosage from 75 mg because I felt a little too muted, like things that were really supposed to bother me didn't, and the nausea on 75 mg really sucked. I was finding myself vomiting for no reason. 50 mg has been good to me the last 6 months."

Sertraline for Social Anxiety Disorder "I started taking Zoloft about three weeks ago. I have noticed various symptoms. I grind my teeth quite a bit, which brings on headaches. I yawn constantly, and I am always tired (even if I have eight hours of sleep). I have not experienced any weight gain as yet or any other symptoms associated with this medicine. I used to have panic attacks every second day, and I have not had one since I started taking Zoloft, which is a great outcome. I did get a bit panicky in a social situation two days ago, though I was able to control my emotions, so I didn't have a panic attack. So far, so good."

Sertraline for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I recently got diagnosed with OCD (almost 2 months ago). My therapist suggested I start taking something to better deal with this issue and recommended a Zoloft dose of 50 mg per day. I can honestly say it changed my life for the better. Usually, antidepressants work for OCD patients to around a 40%-80% improvement rate, and I can proudly say I am one of the people with a higher percentage. When it comes to side effects, I do get a little bit nauseous, and I'm generally more tired, but apart from that, I feel much better, and my only concern at the moment is it stopping to work for me."

For Anxiety and Stress "So I'm on day 4 of 25 mg of Zoloft. I will titrate up to 50 mg at day 7. I have to say, I feel amazing. Is it normal for it to work this quickly? I'm taking it for anxiety. Mild side effects, can tell something is going on in my head. Feel a little tired or foggy about an hour after I take it, but otherwise I feel good. I understand the full effects won't take hold for a while. Will it actually make me feel better than I already do? I seriously cannot believe I feel it this fast. Any thoughts are welcome."

For Depression "I'm 27 and have been depressed/suicidal my entire life (due to sexual abuse and a horrendous childhood). I was getting to the point where I didn't want to go to work or speak to anyone, was extremely irritable, and was close to ending it all. I made a last-minute GP appointment and was prescribed sertraline (50mg). I was nauseous and quite tired the first couple of days but genuinely feel better now. I don't hold on to negative thoughts, can think clearly, and I'm making an effort in things because I can see beyond tomorrow. I used to build everything up and have a mini-breakdown every few weeks, but I haven't felt anywhere near that, but I've not been 'emotionless' (i.e., some people think you feel nothing, but I still do, which is good). Colleagues have noticed that I'm more chatty and less miserable at work, so I'll definitely keep up with these."

Sertraline for Depression "I've been on sertraline generic for 2 weeks today, 50 mg first thing in the morning. I am on the UK brand name version, Lustral. For pretty much the first week, I slept fine on these, but then things started to change. On day 6, I felt really high and paranoid, but later euphoric. However, I have not experienced that same euphoria since. At the start of week 2, I noticed that they started making me feel drowsy for the first few hours after taking, and I find myself having to go back to sleep for a few hours in the morning. But when 11 pm comes, I don't feel tired. Yet I regularly wake now at 5:30 am. So I tried taking them an hour before bed instead, but then had an awful night's sleep. So I went back to taking them in the morning. Mentally, I feel bland, flat, emotionless, drained, and like I don't want to go anywhere because I'm so tired. Also, my social anxiety is worse because of these effects, and yesterday I started to feel a lot lower."

Sertraline for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I've suffered from OCD for about three years. It was pretty bad but still manageable, but then, two months ago, it became unbearably horrible, my life was a nightmare. I would spend almost every waking hour ruminating about my obsessions while feeling intense anxiety. Then I began taking Zoloft. I was started on 25 mg, and I noticed some improvement within 5 days, and there was massive improvement within 9 days. I've been on it for a month now, and I'm at 100 mg. The OCD is definitely still here, but it takes up much less time, and I am able to ruminate without feeling intense anxiety. I didn't have any major side effects. At the beginning, I was yawning a lot, and I felt more irritable. There's also a lack of appetite, and I've lost 4 pounds."

Sertraline for Depression "Two days ago, my Zoloft dose was bumped up from 50 mg to 100 mg, as I was still not feeling 100%. The first day of taking the increased dose, I felt euphoric. The next day, I felt a step down from the day before. Today, I am feeling depressed and extremely tired. I have no energy to do anything. I have no symptoms of nausea at all, just exhaustion. I am hoping that this side effect goes away because it is very annoying and difficult to deal with when I have so much to do."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "After at least a year of worsening anxiety, I tried essentially anything I could think of to manage it, but resorted to something I never wanted to: medication. I started off taking 25 mg once a night before bedtime, and it made me have some really vivid and bizarre dreams (I probably dreamt more in the past month than I have in the last three years combined) and kind of felt like I hadn't slept at all the next morning. The day after I started taking it, I felt really exhausted and depressed. The second day I felt almost manic, but every day after that, I've felt amazing. No sickness to my stomach at thoughts that used to rule my life, and I've got so much more energy. Give it a shot and keep in mind that it can take a few weeks to help. :)"
