Sertraline for Social Anxiety Disorder "I finally asked about going on meds for anxiety after a rough year of being victims of a home invasion and our house flooding. I wanted something to take the edge off as I felt like any little thing would send me spiraling. My doc prescribed 25mg of Zoloft. The first day I felt a little high and had diarrhea. The second day I felt tired. The third day I slept through the night for the first time in months. I felt like a new person. Then the exhaustion crept in, the worst being exactly a week in. It felt like someone put a wet blanket over my brain. I read the message board and felt encouraged to keep going. Today marks exactly a month on Zoloft. The spiraling is no more. I don’t fixate on issues like I used to, and even when our dryer died and a pipe on our softener burst in the same week, I felt like I handled it well. All in all, I’m thankful I tried this as I’m hoping it gets me back to seeing that, despite some unfortunate circumstances, I’m very blessed and should enjoy every moment."

For Depression "Started taking sertraline around 6 weeks ago after years of crippling fatigue, feeling of complete self-loathing, and no desire to engage with the world. I finally accepted that maybe these symptoms were all due to depression, which I've been living with for most of my adult life. Started on 25mg for a week with no side effects and no change, upped to 50mg for two weeks and felt really tired, still no change, then upped to 100mg in week 4 and this is when I noticed the changes. I feel happy, the ruminating thoughts have dissipated, I'm interested in life and myself again, and I'm genuinely excited about life. I realize now just how depressed and down I actually was. My advice to anyone reading this is not to be perturbed by bad reviews, side effects are bearable and go away when you stop taking the meds, so if your doctor has suggested trying Sertraline or any other SSRI, my advice is to try it. Don't suffer unnecessarily like I have for almost 20 years."

For Anxiety and Stress "I suffer from health anxiety. I had a pretty scary health scare earlier this year, which kicked my anxiety into overdrive, and I became very ill. My GP prescribed sertraline 50mg. I used this site every day to get me through and promised to do an honest review: Week 1 & 2 - horrific. I nearly gave up so many times, but I was so desperate I stuck with it. Side effects: bad diarrhea, GI issues/pain, shaking, sweating/night sweats, debilitating anxiety, insomnia, no appetite, lethargy, nausea, and brain fog. Week 3 - side effects started slowly to lift. Week 4 - side effects lifting, appetite started to return, and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Week 5 - massive improvement in side effects, feeling more positive. Week 6 - only side effects are sweating and slight shaking. Anxiety much improved. Week 7 - I feel like my old self, but with a quieter mind. I don’t hyper-fixate on things and go into panic mode like I used to daily. Please stick with it!"

Sertraline for Depression "I think Zoloft for me is great. The only downfall I have with it was headaches. They started right when I began taking Zoloft daily. They were intense and hurt like hell. Lasted about 2 weeks. Then bam, they were gone. I took it at night before bed. I thought they made me tired. Since I've been on it, I've lost about 20 lbs. I don't have the munchies at all & honestly I have to tell myself to eat because it curbs my appetite. I don't feel bloated like I did on Lexapro, that's why I switched. Zoloft really works for me and I'm on a low dose. Headaches suck the first few weeks but what a difference from Lexapro. Everyone's different."

Sertraline for Social Anxiety Disorder "After having several panic attacks over a 12-month period, I was prescribed Zoloft. I had no idea that it would also help with so many other problems which I just thought were variations of 'normal.' I started on 25mg in the morning but found it made me feel tired, so I changed to taking it before bed. Miraculously, I was able to fall asleep within a few minutes instead of the usual 30 to 60 minutes. I also stayed asleep through the night, rarely waking but easily returning to sleep when I did. I felt less agitated and irritated by what now seems like fairly trivial things. Big problems in life still exist, but they do not dominate my mind every waking moment. I no longer feel embarrassed in social situations and just feel generally content."

Sertraline for Depression "I am 24 years old and have a 14-week-old son. I have fought with depression most of my life due to childhood and whatnot. After having my son, everything came crashing down. I was on the brink of a divorce and suicidal. So I asked my doctor, he put me on 50mg of Zoloft, and I'm now on day 4. Side effects for me are headache, tiredness, dizziness, and nausea. But I'm sticking to it, hoping those will go away. My mood is so much better."

Sertraline for Depression "I've been taking Zoloft for about 3 months. I've felt very few side effects, all of which I did experience was tiredness, but other than that, I went from an emotionless zombie to feeling great all day long."

Sertraline for Depression "After a little over two months taking 50mg of Zoloft, I feel happier, calmer, less anxious about things. I look forward to things again, I enjoy things I had forgotten I cared about. I laugh more, I enjoy sex more (when I am depressed, my mind is on other things whenever I want to have sex). I sleep whole nights, I used to wake up in the middle of the night EVERY night and stay awake for 1-2 hours before falling asleep again. I wish I had tried it sooner. Part of me wants to quit taking it now to see if I feel better still without the side effects (such as crazy vivid dreams, lower libido than when I am not depressed, yawning, etc.), but I think I am fooling myself. It is not perfect, but so much better than I could've hoped."

Sertraline for Depression "Generic Sertraline gave me some relief, but it made me jittery and gave me headaches. After reading testimonials, I insisted on the name brand Zoloft, so glad I did. It's like a completely different medicine. More relaxed and not full of negative thinking. I still get overly anxious if something stressful happens, but it doesn't last long. Side effects are more tolerable, though it does make me tired."

Sertraline for Social Anxiety Disorder "From bad to good. Week 1 was great. Obviously placebo. Week 2 was a low week. So tired all day long. I struggled to concentrate. Work performance was affected. I learned that alcohol brings you right down. DON'T DO IT! Some anxiety in Week 3. Another low week in Week 4. I felt zombified. Tired all day. I could barely stay awake in meetings. I couldn't pay attention for more than a minute. Noticed my hands are shaking. Some anxiety. Week 5 was better but still tired. Small improvement but still zombified and shaking hands. Week 6 was less tired but still shaky. Mood is lifting. Strange confidence. Loving it! Confidence and mood grows in Week 7. Little anxious in Week 8. Feeling great. There is hope! Avoid too much alcohol and coffee. 2 or 3 per day is okay."

Sertraline for Panic Disorder "For the last 12 years, I have experienced anxiety, however, I have always been able to cope without medication. Then, last March, my random bouts of anxiety and panic attacks became crippling. I suffer from health anxiety and, most recently, panic disorder. I started having panic attacks that would last days. I couldn't go anywhere. I started on 50 mg, and the first day, extreme drowsiness, tiredness, and just felt off. I really did not like the side effects, so I switched to 25 mg and took it at night before bed. The first week sucked, but the anxiety really went away. I'm on week 5 now. Last week, I went back up to the 50 mg. I feel great! I feel like my old self again. My heart rate's down, and I have had no panic attacks at all! My husband and daughter are so happy. Side effects suck, but they do get better! I promised myself to write a review because the others helped me get through that first week. It was scary, but I'm so grateful."

For Anxiety and Stress "I was extremely against taking medicine for my anxiety, however, after a very severe spell of anxiety and insomnia, I decided I needed to try it as a last resort. I was going back and forth making various doctor’s appointments, scared to take the tablet (as side effects stated insomnia). He prescribed me various different types during this time, eventually, I decided it was time to give sertraline a go, and if I didn’t like it, just stop. I was prescribed 50 mg. I did take this dose for 5 days, but the side effects were too severe, so I lowered it to 25 mg (wish I had just started on this dose). The side effects reduced dramatically, but I still had toilet issues, night sweats, tiredness, and vivid dreams. After 2 months on 25 mg, I decided it was time to up to 37.5 mg (1 week) and now onto 50 mg, which I have now been on for a month. The side effects this time around have not been as bad, and I can say I feel almost myself again. I am now able to do things I couldn’t before and feel so much happier. Give it a go."

For Anxiety and Stress "Like many others on here, I too read the reviews religiously when I found myself stuck in a world of anxiety. What if it doesn’t work and I’m in an even worse position than I’m in right now? For me, after a few weeks, I just noticed I was more interested in the things I thought I would never enjoy again when completely consumed with my thoughts. It allows you to take a step back and get a better perspective on everything. Side effects were fine for me, just a little tired at first. Please don’t let this put you off giving them a try as everyone says you can always come off them if they don’t work well for you. I urge those with anxiety to read 'A Life at Last.' I cannot describe the relief I got from reading this book. I did not realize 90% of my anxiety was caused by constantly trying to fight/cure how I was feeling instead of just allowing myself to feel it (I know how useless that advice sounds!), but please give it a go. I truly think it can help!"

Sertraline for Depression "I swore that if Zoloft worked for me, I would come back here and write a review. I hope this gives some people hope who are too scared to take it or try something new. I was first put on Lexapro for serious anxiety, which then led to depression. I was on that for about 9 days. It was terrible! Made my anxiety way worse, vomiting, couldn't sleep. So then I was put on Pristiq. I took it one day (fast-acting) and felt so weird, shaking out of control, sick to my stomach, etc. FINALLY. I was put on 50mg of Zoloft. I am on my 4th week of it now and I can honestly say I feel like myself again! Only side effect was extremely tired. So I started taking it at night and that has helped! Good luck!"

Sertraline for Panic Disorder "Zoloft has been a life saver! I have been on this medicine for about 7 years now. Two kids (3 and 6 months) later, I still have to use this medicine, and it works miracles. My husband deployed to Afghanistan, and I do not think I could have made it through that time while taking care of our kids without this medicine. The only side effects I had were loss of appetite, tiredness, and mild headaches, but that only lasts about a week. If you're just starting this medicine, hold on, I promise this will help you feel like yourself again!"

For Depression "I have been on sertraline for 2 years. It has helped with depression, but I am always tired and have no sex drive. For the last 6 months, I've been falling out with a lot of people, I think it has made me full of rage and highly irritable. I feel like I actually don't like people anymore, even family, and I don't care about anything or anyone. Everything irritates me, and I only seem to like my own company. Has anyone had any similar side effects?"

Sertraline for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I have had PMDD for some time. I was initially prescribed Prozac, and it did nothing. I take a high dose of 100 mg during the luteal phase of my period, and it helps. Not symptom-free, but more manageable. The side effects are tiredness (too mellow and not hyper-motivated) and weight gain, but I can live with this instead of extreme mood changes prior to Zoloft. It also helps me manage work and personal life better. It takes the edge off. My symptoms include racing, obsessive thoughts, anger, raging, paranoia primarily (general distrust of all human beings). I still get food cravings and some thoughts, but they are dramatically reduced. I try to manage PMDD with diet, supplements (magnesium), yoga, etc. Too. It is a tough mood disorder, and I wish I knew what I had years ago."

For Depression "I have been taking this since last April. I take the generic sertraline and started on 50 mg. Initial side effects were nausea, loss of appetite, and tiredness. After 2-3 weeks, it went away and I've now been taking this for 6 months. I am taking it for anxiety and mild depression, and this has worked wonders. My brain fog has lifted, and I can be so much more productive at work. I no longer overthink things like I used to. I no longer just start crying over little things. Things that seemed so overwhelming in the past are just normal everyday things to me now. I feel like a better version of my past self. It has not caused me to become disinterested in things, it's helped me to focus on all those things and enjoy them. I've actually taken on way more in life because I want to and am reaching life goals happily. I hope it works as well for you as it does for me!"

Sertraline for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I wish that I would have started this drug much sooner. I was very reluctant to take an antidepressant mainly due to stigma. I felt immediate relief from anxiety, paranoia, irritability, hopelessness, helplessness, suicidal thoughts, depression, and feeling out of control. I have had major symptoms for several years premenstrually, and it was premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I am very thankful for Zoloft, and I don't ever want to be caught without it. It is the best thing that has happened to me in a very long time. The side effects are very minimal, my side effects would include just feeling a little tired, some gas, and mild diarrhea at times. I would trade this any day for the problems that I was having before I started taking Zoloft. It truly has saved my life."

Sertraline for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "Zoloft pretty much saved my life. I was suicidal due to my trauma and many life failures. I hated the medicine at first, though. The adjustment period is horrible. I felt constipated, sweaty, sleepy, high, and dissociated from the real world. Once you get past that (it takes a couple of months), it is great. I am so much more relaxed now. I used to be very aggressive, and now I think about other people's feelings. Being depressed from my trauma, I was very tired. Zoloft made me more tired until I adjusted to it. Now it actually gives me energy."

For Anxiety and Stress "Has completely changed my life for the better. It's like I am the person I truly am and want to be - I am now without the anxiety, fearfulness, and depression. It has made me able to live life and enjoy it! I couldn't believe I had fallen into a 'what's the purpose' mindset, but now I see it wasn't my fault. I truly needed this medication and will probably be on it long term. It has without a doubt changed my life and brought the joy back into everyday living. It has also boosted my energy. I was tired all the time for no reason, no matter what. Now I wake up in the mornings excited for work. Truly a Godsend medication!!!"

Sertraline for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I first used Zoloft in 1999 for post-traumatic stress disorder. At that time, I was on 50mg. It allowed me to function very well. Now I am being treated for major depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I started 50 mg 7 days ago, today I am to up my dose to 100 mg. The only side effect I have noticed is tiredness so far. The one benefit is I have not cried every day, which is a triumph as I had been doing that on a daily basis several times per day. Still am anxious about large crowds and overly watchful of my surroundings. I will post again after my check-up with my progress at the end of February. Good luck to you, and I wish you recovery, we all need that."

Sertraline for Panic Disorder "I was terrified to try Zoloft! I read all the reviews and kept putting it off. Afraid I would suffer and afraid to give it a try. I was taking Klonopin, and my doctor cut it off. Told me to start taking Zoloft. I went through weeks of hell while I was debating on starting. I could barely drive, I was struggling with sadness and moods all over the place, and I finally decided I couldn't live like this anymore. I tried Zoloft starting at 25 mg for the first week - the only side effect I had was mild nausea and tiredness at first - after three days, it was hardly noticeable. The fear I had to start trying Zoloft kept me from feeling as good as I do now - I'm so grateful I tried it and hope anyone scared to will just do it. I'm glad I did."

For Depression "30 years old; on sertraline 50 mg dose prescribed after complete burnout with hopelessness and depression. The first 2 weeks are hardest; difficulty falling/staying asleep, upset stomach, some anxiety. The first day I woke with horrible nausea and sweating like being on fire. Taking it easy in the mornings with ginger/peppermint and carefully getting out of bed is essential. Do not drink alcohol the first month, dizzy and exhaustion/yawning constantly. 1st month felt numb, 2nd month felt energy come back and interested in hobbies for the first time in years. 4 months in, feel like myself and distant from negative thoughts that tore me apart before (I have BPD tendencies which went away too). Persistent side effects are night sweating, upset stomach, and lowered sex drive. Would highly recommend to help you get your strength back and get life on track. Now ready to change career path and able to take care of myself; sertraline truly gave me the help I needed. Also, weekly therapy is important!"
