Quetiapine for Schizophrenia "My son has autism and anxiety. He started experiencing psychosis/auditory hallucinations at age 18...so bad he would yell and get very angry. We have started Seroquel, been on it for over 2 months now, some improvement but not great. His doc has now upped it from 25mg to 500 mg. Along with Mirtazapine and Ativan for sleep. Hoping we can stay ahead of his episodes instead of chasing them. I'll give an update. Super helpful to read others' reviews. Praying we see some good results."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This drug is the only drug I have ever taken that helps my massive anxiety and suicidal depression. I believe I am a high-functioning borderline, and I was spinning out of control after a traumatic breakup with my partner. This drug saved my life! It worked immediately, the first night I took it. It took away all my suicidal thoughts that were completely overwhelming me — likely saving me from a stay at a psychiatric hospital. It has also helped eradicate obsessive thoughts about my ex-partner and the compulsion to contact my partner. I feel calm and relatively reasonable. I’m an attorney, and I can now focus on work so much better! Before, I was simply overwhelmed and could not focus enough to comprehend documents and client comments/emails. I don’t know how this drug works, but what a godsend! I’m on 50mg nightly. I am so grateful!"

Quetiapine for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "300 mg 4x/day. I used to have horrible hyper-vigilance, hyper-startle, anxiety, paranoia, insomnia symptoms. NOTHING (meditation, yoga, EMDR, etc.) helped that much, let alone fix it. So, the doctor said to try this. Because of my side-effect sensitivity, my doctor started me on 25 mg. That first night, I slept a full night for the first time in months. But then I started sleeping too much - up to 14 hrs a day on the weekends. We backed off to 12.5 mg & my life CHANGED. I'm under more stress right now so my dose is back to 25 mg & I'm doing great on it. It pulls me down out of that watchfulness that prevents me from doing anything but surviving (and poorly, at that). For me, after a near-lifetime of struggle, this is a miracle."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I love Seroquel but not the XR type. Helps you to sleep well at night and wake up feeling great. Gives you major munchies at night and woke up with Reese's Pieces all over the bed. Does help with a lot on highs and lows. So for me it's worth a little weight gain. Overall this medicine has changed my life."

Quetiapine for Schizoaffective Disorder "My experience with quetiapine is amazingly positive. I tried Invega (that was bad) with unsuccessful results. I take quetiapine at a dose of 50 mg at night, and it makes me so much more relaxed and without any bad feelings or thoughts. If you want to be healthy and active during your days, this drug is highly recommended. In my case, it is used at night before sleep. It works!"

Quetiapine for Schizophrenia "I've been taking Seroquel for a long time. It destroyed my life. It's addictive because when you stop taking it, you'll never be able to sleep again. There's no getting off of it. I sleep in till 2 to 5 pm every day. I'm sluggish all day. It never helped with any of my symptoms of schizophrenia. It makes me crave sugar immensely. This drug is very dangerous. You have to be very careful when taking it. Don't drive or be around people you don't know or trust. Let's just say I could sleep through anything. This drug should be illegal even if it does help some people with their mental illness. There are other things people can take. Risperdal, for example, does wonders for me. I'm working with my doctor on getting off of Seroquel. I didn't do it sooner because I'm so sick I can barely accomplish anything really. I just want to say to all schizophrenics I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that NOBODY has any idea of what's happening to you."

For Insomnia "After suffering from insomnia for decades and having tried everything under the sun, including homeopathic remedies, I decided to give an antipsychotic drug a try. It works amazingly well - I have never slept for 8 hours since I was a teen. This allows me to SLEEP. Yes, it does make you feel groggy in the morning, but I split my 25 mg tablet into halves or quarters, and then the grogginess is not an issue!"

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I can now see my own signs of mania or depression (having had Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for six months). With that said, the meds are not miracles, and after some dialectical treatment to add to my “toolbox”, Seroquel really helps. When I am restless, having racing thoughts, and feeling moody, I feel well-balanced after about 48-72 hours of using coping skills and adding Seroquel to prevent lack of sleep, which can worsen thoughts, moods, eating, etc. For me, it’s very helpful to have self-relaxation skills to manage my reactions. I give this medication, after months of skill work, an A++. My experience is not to say it is 100% fluent to all bipolar sufferers. The good thing is that DBT is not a medication so it won’t hurt to try it as a “tool”. The side effects are mild. It does make me drowsy, and I sometimes get an oily face, yet I can accept that over extended episodes. I also have to keep drinking lots of water as dry mouth is mild and I do feel thirsty."

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "I have been on Seroquel off and on for three years. I have tried other meds for my bipolar disorder, but nothing has worked better for me. I feel the only drawback is waking up in the morning with a cloudy head and dry mouth."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I found Seroquel to be the wonder drug for my anxiety problems (due to long-term drug use). I was prescribed it five years ago at 100 mg a day. That has decreased to 50 mg at night, but I have since made the decision that I am ready to decrease this further to 25 mg a day, then down to none, as I have been free from addiction for the past five years I have been taking Seroquel. In my mind though, I would never have gotten through the debilitating anxiety that followed without the help of Seroquel."

For Depression "Seroquel has been life-changing for me. I struggled with insomnia for years. Currently diagnosed with bipolar type II, I was prescribed Lamotrigine and Seroquel. Seroquel has helped me tremendously. I’m sleeping better than I ever have, and I’ve actually lost weight with this medication because now that I’m sleeping, I actually have the energy to work out every day. I am so thankful for this medication!"

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "Only on week 1 of this med, but I CANNOT believe the change in my mood. I am taking this to treat bipolar 2, anxiety and poor sleep quality. I take 50mg at night and sleep like a baby. Make sure to get 8-10 hours of sleep/night and you won't feel drowsy the next morning. It's eliminated my anxiety entirely and I feel completely stabilized. I haven't had any trouble with weight gain; in fact, I've already lost a few lbs, due to the fact that I no longer feel emotionally-driven to binge eat. No side effects as far as I can tell. An ABSOLUTE MIRACLE DRUG. Just praying the results hold up."

For Insomnia "It's a wonderful knockout punch if everything else has failed, or if you've taken something like Ambien and it stops working. For me, Ambien was great until it stopped working. I then tried Trazodone but that didn't help much. Seroquel is an antipsychotic but at small doses (25-50mg) it only hits histamine receptors so it's like a large dose of Benadryl - but much better than Benadryl. The only downside is that it is a little hard to get out of bed the next day, but you will sleep like a bear so it's worth it. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to kick in and 25 mg does the trick for me. Also, there is no weight gain at small doses so that's nice too."

For Insomnia "My doctor put me on a low dose of quetiapine to help with sleep as I also have mood issues. Quetiapine works very well to help you sleep. Before I started taking it, it would take me probably 2 to 3 hours to fall asleep on my own, within a half hour of quetiapine I could sleep. This was great at first, however, now, if I don't take it I can't sleep AT ALL. If I don't take it, for whatever reason, no matter how tired I am, my body will not fall asleep. I have been up for more than 30 hours multiple times. I can lay in bed in complete silence and darkness for 12 hours and not fall asleep for a minute. My body is dependent and I don't like it at all. I just want to be able to even take a nap in the afternoon without taking something. If this is what the lowest dose can do, I can't imagine if I was on a higher dose."

Quetiapine for Depression "Seroquel XR has changed my life. I feel I am present again in my world. Before taking this medication, I had very little hope that I would ever feel enthusiastic about life. I recognize myself again. I can't say enough about how excited I am about living. I tried so many therapies and had given up hope anything would work. The combination of my antidepressant and Seroquel XR was the key for me."

For Insomnia "I don't know what I would do without Seroquel for sleep. I have bipolar 1 and have not had an episode in about 5 years, which I attribute to taking Seroquel for sleep and having a bit of lithium in my system, along with a low dose of Ritalin in the morning for depression. I take 25 mg of Seroquel to sleep at night, I know most people need more. I only sleep about 2-3 hours at night without it. I have gained and lost about 10 lbs on it. If I take it before going straight to bed, I get a serious case of the munchies. Just take it and try to get right to bed and don't fight the med and eat. It takes about an hour for the Seroquel to digest for me. If I am really restless, I take 50 mg to sleep and it makes me feel drowsy in the morning."

For Depression "Caution! Many reports here are from sub <100 mg dosages! These doses are not approved for depression. 150-300 mg have been studied in multiple trials with positive results. So if you want to take reports here seriously, at least look for those reports that actually report dosages clinically approved for depression! On a side note, I have used quetiapine for 8 months, and overall it's been a very good medication for me. The positives: not only is it anti-depressive for me, but it also alleviates my mood over my 'normal' not-depressant mood. It works very well for social anxiety for me (although on average this has not been seen in trials). Negative: it makes me tired the first 3 hours of the day, which is not trivial. (English is my second language; I rarely write it, so the spelling is probably not great.)"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I can honestly say that quetiapine has saved my life. I take between 25mg during the day and 50mg at night. Anxiety is a wearing experience, like a caterpillar gnawing away at your well-being in an endless cycle. I have been on it for about 7 years now, and I was prescribed it by a one-time visit to a psychiatrist at the surgery. The winter months with the dark nights here in the UK can be unremitting, but this little pill does so much and is not addictive. If you're in doubt, go for it... although all drugs work differently for everyone."

Quetiapine for Depression "Read a lot of bad things about Seroquel on the web. After a couple of days, I tried it myself (100 mg a night) and I've found it amazing. It really helps with my anxiety and my hyperactive behavior. I just feel a lot more calm and settled in general. Don't believe everything you read. Just try it for a few nights and see how it suits you. Everyone is different."

For Insomnia "I’m going to give a short version of my journey the past year. I went into inpatient therapy twice while trying to figure out what was going on with me. During that time, I was put on seroquel to help me sleep. I take 50mg every night. It doesn’t always put me right to sleep, but it helps me find sleep. I haven’t had any trouble with nightmares, and honestly, I’ve had better dreams since taking it. All in all, I personally have had a decent experience. The only downsides I’ve seen are feeling super sleepy when trying to get out of bed and feeling terribly hungry if I don’t go to bed pretty quickly after taking it. If you read all of this, thanks. I hope if you're prescribed it, it helps you."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). I’m 20. I was depressed and suicidal when my psychiatrist put me on Seroquel. It took 4-5 months for it to fully kick in. 300 mg was too much for me, my mornings were horrible, and I fainted a couple of times. My heart was beating so fast when I woke up, and I would get so dizzy. It was so hard to start my days properly. I wouldn’t go back to 300 mg, it also made me feel like a potato because I never felt sad anymore. I am now taking 150 mg, which is working soooo well for me. I am finally happy, and I have reached a point of emotional stability and consciousness that I have never had previously. It makes me feel like I have seen real life on the other side. I was so blinded due to BPD, and now Seroquel-only (no dialect treatment)-made me feel so confident and the person I’ve always been looking for. I’ve been on it for 9 months, and I can’t imagine my life without it. I might be addicted to it, but IDC-I would never go back to my BPD, it scares me into the thought of living in that nightmare."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have been an active drug user my whole life, and I was diagnosed with psychosis and an anxiety disorder. I highly recommend this medicine for psychosis. Within two weeks of taking it, I felt my brain chemistry changing, and it's currently changing my life for the better each day. Works well for anxiety too, it calms my nerves down and puts me to sleep. Don't know where I'd be without Seroquel :)"

Quetiapine for Bipolar Disorder "The reason I'm rating this drug 10/10 is that it does not stab you in the back, and it does not ask for increased doses. It works all the time and kicks in fast, making you feel euphoric combined with sleepiness. If you stay awake more than 30 minutes after taking it, you will feel hungry. So, if you are worried about gaining weight, just take it and sleep. Find your correct dose that works well, and remember good sleep equals a good mood. If you feel sleepy the next day, that's okay, drink some coffee + 1 cup of water. And remember to do 20 minutes of exercise every day, just not before going to sleep, and you will feel better 100%."

Quetiapine for Depression "I have had depression since I was a child, but I didn't start getting help for it until I was 19. I have tried Prozac and Celexa, which did nothing for me, and then my doctor asked me if I have ever heard of a medicine called Seroquel XR. I started out on 50mg and then worked my way up to 300mg. The only side effects for me were weight gain and drowsiness, but the drowsiness went away after a couple of months of using this medicine. Overall, I really like this medicine. It has helped me tremendously!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "This medication has significantly reduced my anxiety. I am currently on 50 mg and I am able to sleep longer without midnight interruptions. Before Seroquel, I took 10 mg of Abilify (bad lethargy and restlessness). Life doesn't seem so scary to me anymore."
