Reviews for Metamucil

For Dietary Fiber Supplementation: “I had a colonoscopy and Metamucil was recommended. I did not like it at all with orange flavors and sweeteners. It was yukky. I then found the kind with no sweeteners and unflavored. It is much better. I mix it with my orange juice or other juice as half juice and half water. When I went to buy it again it was almost double the price the the kind with added flavors and sweeteners. So I then bought another kind of psyllium fiber without a bunch of added ingredients. Putting sweeteners, sugar, and unwanted flavors are not needed. Why do they charge more for unsweetened and unflavored.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “This stuff changed my life!! I've been taking metamucil for about 3 months now. Doctors have put me through the ringer of testing and made me a guinea pig for medicines. I've been given every type of IBS diet, medicine and regiment know to man with NO RESOLVE or relief. I had tried everything else so this was my last alternative, I wish it had been my FIRST! I started with 1/2 tsp and worked up... The most I took was a tbsp in a day which I didn't need and backed back down to only a teaspoon a day. I suffer from the diarrhea type of IBS. I take metamucil everyday usually right after breakfast or lunch with Sonny D or OJ. I've been an IBS sufferer since I was 16 I'm 42 now. I highly recommend you give this a try. Blessings to you!!”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “My gastroenterologist told me that I was developing lot of inflammation in my gut. He instructed me to get more fiber. I was experiencing symptoms of incomplete evacuation. Also I found it difficult to clean my bottom after a BM. This left my bottom irritated from leakage. I finally started taking Metamucil. Now I can have a complete BM. Nothing is left behind. When I wipe the tissue is clean. I have been taking it for two days now. I can tell a difference for the better. I hope it continues to help me feel clean.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “IBS-D for 3 years. Fast onset. Breath test confirmed, bad methane and other gases. Finally got Xifaxin x2 - didn't seem to help much. Enzymes didn't seem to help but keep taking them as I do Betaine HCL. Getting a bit better. GI finally said generic psyllium powder/Metamucil and I started with 1 tbsp a day. Too much gas but other symptoms started to lessen. Worked down to 1 tsp a day with water in the morning...and after 3 months, I feel normal again. A miracle. I also take 1 psyllium capsule with lunch and dinner. I have started to put 'gassy' fiber like beans back in my diet. No problems! A miracle. My suggestion is take it no matter what.....I use 1 cup of water. I have my life back.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “I was having horrible stomach cramps with diarrhea on a daily basis last couple of years. And I tried every antidiarrheal medication out there and it wasn't really helping. After several weeks of it my mom said we need to figure out what is going on so she took me to our general physician and he said I need to be on probiotics and recommend me to a GI doctor. The GI doctor ran a bunch of test and told me that if I continue taking antidiarrheal medication it could paralyze my gut so she told me to stop and try metamucil so I tried the powder for a couple of months and I didn't like the taste of it so I switched to the Metamucil Fiber Thins (chocolate) flavor and they taste so good that it helped me a lot. I don't get diarrhea very often anymore. Every once in awhile I'll get some loose stools but other than that I been having normal bowel movements ever since I started doing the metamucil fiber thins.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “I've suffered from IBS with diarrhea off and on since I was 16. The worst is the diarrhea attacks. I have gone through several bouts of testing due to the extreme weight loss and inability to eat without any results coming back with an actual reason or explanation. I restructured my diet as instructed per the doctor's and more diarrhea! Nothing was ever able to maintain normal bowel movements for long no matter what I restricted from my diet. After 30 years I finally tried metamucil all on my own after doing research online about its possibility to help with the stool consistency. I started with 1/2 a teaspoon everyday around 11 a.m. Low and behold it's only been a week but so far it's appearing to assist. I hope that after a month I can report the same results if not even better because I've not even had a month of relief in almost a year.”

For Constipation: “This should be a recommendation for most seniors. I never had a "pooping issue' until I went past 70. I have diverticulosis, gastric reflux and a hiatal hernia and now constipation that is hardly good for my BMs. I eat a lot of fiber laden food and still it an be a difficult "go". My gastroenterologist recommended Metamucil and what a change. Softer, fuller and easier to go. Since seniors can get sometimes fatal blockage this should be the first choice to help prevent that not the stronger Miralax that originally was by prescription, of course once you have been checked over by a doctor.”

For Constipation: “I was having stool that had ribbon-like form. And, I had begun to miss several days having a bowel movement, which was unusual for me. My gastroenterologist suggested Metamucil. Thank God I'd read a review saying the person's blood would elevate when taking Metamucil. I was desperate, and had read that Metamucil could actually lower your blood pressure. I have high blood pressure that's usually pretty controlled with medication. My blood pressure began to increase each day I took Metamucil. Now it's way out of control. Unfortunately I will need to stop using it. It also gives me really bad gas. It's hard to lie down sleep. I also have really bad acid reflux while taking it. I suggest anyone with high blood pressure to be very cautious when taking Metamucil.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “I have taken Metamucil for the last few years for my digestive issues. It slightly improved my digestion. Two weeks ago, I saw MetaMucil Premium at Publix for the first time. I decided to try it. It has drastically improved my digestion for the last 2 weeks. I am curious what is different in the Premium? I can't tell you how much better I am feeling and I'm so grateful. Thank You”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “I used to suffer from frequent, repeated flareups of diarrhea and constipation. It was extremely painful when the liquid stool tried to push past the hardened stool. I finally saw a doctor and explained my problem. She said I had symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. She recommended Metamucil and I started treatment the next day. I experienced considerable relief after a week of drinking the powder mixture. I take Metamucil each and every day now and have experienced far less flareups than I did in the past. I no longer have to stay home so much or know exactly where each bathroom is when I go out. This fiber supplement has greatly improved my quality of life. I'm so grateful.”

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: “I started having emergency runs to the bathroom before my first class everyday in college. Needing to hold it when stuck in traffic was the worse! I started having cramping all over my abdominal, and with internet diagnosing myself I swore I had some serious disease or cancer. I went to the doctor and he did some tests and I was fine, and he recommended Metamucil. It took my body a while to get used to the new fiber. Symptoms would come and go, and after about a week or two I started realizing how much I was actually able to forget about even having stomach problems! I still have some cramping and the product does seem to cause some bloating. However I went from only having a couple good days a week, to only a couple bad days a week.”

For Constipation: “Growing up, I thought straining to poop and sitting there for 30+ minutes was normal. I'm 25 now, and due to my recently discovered kidney problems, I also discovered that those things are not normal. So, my husband one day asked my mother in law to pick up some metamucil for me at the store on her way to our apartment. None of us knew much about it because we had never taken it before. She bought the sugar free orange flavored kind. I started taking 1 teaspoon daily and it has seriously CHANGED MY LIFE. I'm no longer constipated, nor do I get diarrhea, and my chronic nausea has been cured. Usually I go once a day now, but on occasion I have gone 4 times, but all healthy. I love it!”

For Dietary Fiber Supplementation: “After having 14 inches of my colon removed in 2001 due to colorectal cancer, my average day consisted of going to the bathroom literally 15 to 20 times per day/night. No Doctor ever recommended Metamucil or similar product. After starting on Metamucil, my trips to the bathroom are still excessive when compared to pre colon cancer but, my bathroom trips have been reduced by more than 50%. My life is much more closer to normal. I will be taking Metamucil for the rest of my life.”

For Constipation: “Someone had mentioned on this forum to take magnesium oxide supplement along with Metamucil and it really work for constipation. I started taking 500mg along with 1 dose of Metamucil for constipation and it’s worked wonders. I had a surgery to fix a prolapse but still had trouble going because of internal hemorrhoids this has helped so much. I’m happy to not rely on stimulant laxatives”

For Constipation: “I started using Metamucil as suggested by my surgical assistant after adhesion surgery. Within 2 days of starting Metamucil, I began having muscle pain throughout my whole body. I could barely use my hands because of the pain in my forearms and hands. My feet and legs began hurting, it hurt to walk. Stopped the Metamucil for a 2 weeks as suggested by my primary doctor. Pain began to ease off, but constipation returned. Tried Metamucil again for 2 days. This time the pain was back and was worse. My whole body was in pain. I stopped it after talking with primary again and pain is now almost completely gone. I do not know why this caused so much body and muscle pain for me, but I will never touch it again.”

I noticed that Metamucil helped but never got myself to use it on a daily basis. Finally started using it religiously half a teaspoon in the morning and half in the evening. I got back my life is all I have to say.”

For Constipation: “I have suffered with constipation and ibs for awhile now, and I found out about Metamucil. I purchased the capsules for convenience.I have been using it for 2 days and can tell a massive difference. I have not been bloated at all, which means I have more energy. I used to spend 20-30 mins in the bathroom, now I spend a few mins, a lot easier now. I only use 4 tablets per day, and working well.I would recommend to people with constipation or those who suffer from bloating and abdominal pain due to ibs. I will repurchase!”

For Constipation: “I had a bad reaction to Metamucil until I figured out what to do. I found that taking metamucil dried up my stool and gave me constipation :( I couldn't believe it didn't work because everyone loves it. BUT then I took magnesium with I and it was great. Magnesium diverts liquid to the colon so it gave me enough moisture to pass stool.”

For Dietary Fiber Supplementation: “Started taking the product for health maintenance and it was also recommended by my internist after a colonoscopy and early signs of diverticulitis. Also my wife who is a RN nursing supervisor has used the product for years and rightfully claims it reduces bathroom "paperwork". I think the product is gentle acting and good when used regularly. and over times does what it is supposed to. I like the powdered version and think the taste is good. This product is a startng place to clean up inside out and get the benefits of more energy, better health. I also think some folks would benefit from stronger more "kick butt" once a year type colon, liver and kidney body clenzing from Dr Schultz or others, for major healing and slowing the aging process.”
