"I am 21 years of age and have suffered from migraines for nearly 15 years now. Phenergan is my go-to medication for the nausea and vomiting that sometimes comes along with my headaches. I usually just want to crawl into a dark hole, but with this medication, I'm able to control my nausea and prevent myself from being sick. It also helps with the stomach pains I sometimes get from taking Excedrin Migraine."

"I was having anxiety attacks that brought my heart rate above 180, so I was given beta blockers to bring my heart rate down and this to keep me from vomiting. It stopped my vomiting within about twenty minutes, plus I got a good night's sleep."

"I am extremely ill with a multitude of symptoms. I visited my doctor and found out I am infected with 2 viruses. My doctor prescribed promethazine, and it has made a world of difference. I am now able to sleep, eat (without vomiting), and it has even relieved most of my muscle aching and allergy symptoms. I would definitely rate this medicine as a 10."

"OB prescribed it for nausea. I took a half dose and was high for over 12 hours. I don't think the symptoms are supposed to last that long, so maybe it's an allergic reaction, but it also didn't help my nausea much."

Promethazine "As a type 1 diabetic, I occasionally get nausea and/or vomiting with low blood sugar. If blood sugar levels are severely low, you may feel nausea and something similar to a migraine headache, in my case, with locking-tight neck muscles. It is hard to get blood sugar levels up when you are vomiting. I have found a Phenergan suppository is the only thing that works for me during these episodes. It works very quickly to stop nausea and gives me enough time to eat before making me sleepy. I have been diabetic for more than 40 years, so it is not as though I am inexperienced, and I have both an insulin pump and blood testing equipment with which to check my glucose levels before I ever consider going to sleep. I do not recall ever being truly 'knocked out' long term, but asleep for a few hours, long enough for the headache and tight neck muscles to subside."

"I just got put on promethazine for nausea and vomiting. I started out liking it a lot, but now not so much as I thought I was feeling better, it seems I've gotten worse. Was only having normal side effects, now starting to have more severe side effects. Gave a 5 because I did like it and it was helpful."

Promethazine "I take a Zofran disintegrating tablet, and this tablet just holds me over, laying down not moving until the Phenergan kicks in. Then I’m up and functioning like I was never about to vomit or had nausea."

"I was given this to take for severe nausea while pregnant. The first time I took it, it helped me sleep through the night but didn’t really help with the nausea. The next two days that I took it, I realized it made me have terrible mood swings, and I felt like I was drugged up the following day :( I could barely function. I will not continue taking this medication."

"I took one 12.5 mg tablet and had the worst side effects: dizziness, not feeling able to hold my head up properly, nausea was worse. I felt like I couldn’t control my movements very well. I prefer prochlorperazine so much more than promethazine! Wouldn’t give this medication to my worst nightmare! Would never touch this drug again!"

"For the past 3 days, I have been getting promethazine by IV. This medication is the only one that works for me for nausea. I am having treatment for my migraine called DHE, given by IV. Promethazine works so well for the nausea. It does not make me sleepy, and I have to be given it really diluted. I have small veins, and it is very sore when given by IV. I normally have a PICC line in, and I have never felt this soreness before. Tonight, I know the line is failing, and tomorrow I will have to have yet another line placed."

Promethazine "I have chronic pancreatitis and have severe nausea almost every day. My doctor tried many different medicines for nausea and vomiting over the 8 years I've been sick. Several years ago, I tried Phenergan and had a severe allergic reaction. I later learned it is called a tonic reaction."

"Longtime sufferer of spinal stenosis, occipital neuralgia, vertigo, and nausea. Hypersensitive to drugs. I take 1/3 Avomine tablet when really needed. Best anti-emetic for me, but only Avomine brand! Others give me side effects, agitation, confusion, worse nausea. Beware taking long term, as they are associated with dementia. Take the least amount as you can. I always have them on me."

"I would rate this an eight. Unfortunately, I found that if I take it when I am already nauseated (the kind where you know you will be throwing up in about an hour), it is too late. And this medication burns my throat when it comes back up. (Sorry to be a little graphic, but this is a nausea/vomiting medication.) I have to pay really close attention. If I have any vertigo that day, then I take one. Otherwise, like I said... it doesn't help. Rather like Vicodin and a few other pain relievers that won't stop your toothache once it has taken hold. I hate taking it when I am not sure. It certainly does make me sleepy."

"This is an excellent anti-nausea medication, no matter why you are nauseated, usually. If you are taking the maximum dosage and are still nauseated, something is wrong. Get to the ER. This happened several times to me last year. Promethazine, strong antibiotics, and I'd get better for a month. Finally, an ER doctor did a CAT scan and saw that I was having appendicitis but hurting in the 'wrong' place. Just a warning if this great medicine fails you."

"I'm a cancer survivor, and promethazine was prescribed to me during the time when I was having chemotherapy and radiation. I was very nauseated at the time. My doctor prescribed me the promethazine, and it really worked. Plus, I got some sleep."

"This medication is amazing! For the past year, I have been feeling nauseated and sick, so my doctor prescribed me promethazine. It takes about 15-20 minutes, and I feel a lot better. The only side effect is the extreme sleepiness I feel afterward. I will go to bed and sleep for hours. Lately, I also developed some anxiety to feel nausea, and I take half a 25 mg pill of promethazine in advance, and usually, it works great. I'm a little tired, but I can still function. This medication works amazingly!"

"I take this medication for nausea caused by endometriosis pain. I apparently had also taken it on and off for most of my life since doctors used to prescribe it to me when I could not stop throwing up. I only realized recently that the pill that worked so well to stop my vomiting and the one I had just been prescribed were one and the same. Previously, I had been on Zofran, but it only stopped me from throwing up; the nausea persisted. This medication stops the nausea and gives me an appetite. My one complaint is that it causes terrible drowsiness for me. I can be fully rested, but then if I take one pill, I am a walking zombie. So I try to use it sparingly. Of course, sometimes the drowsiness is worth it."

Promethazine "I took Phenadoz (25 mg) rectal suppositories (as needed or PRN) for intense nausea/vomiting due to chronic migraine. This form of the medication was far more effective than taking the oral pill form and did not cause me to experience negative side effects (vs. the oral pill form). Bonuses: no worries about vomiting up this form of the medicine, and also, this ROA kicked in faster vs. most oral antiemetics for me!"

"By far the best and non-addictive medication for motion sickness or vomiting. I know you shouldn't do this, but if you do end up consuming too much food or 'drink' and feel sick, take half of these and drink a couple of full glasses of room temp. water, and in 15 minutes, it's all over with. Make sure you read all the ingredients before consuming. Good for massive headaches as well."

"My son has constant nausea and sickness, but these pills didn't help him at all. All tests have come back clear, and I've even changed him to gluten-free, but I am at a loss. We are waiting for his referral to a pediatrician, but really need something to relieve his symptoms. Unfortunately, this didn't work for him."

Promethazine "My experience was awful. This medication was put into my IV and in seconds, I felt myself going into a deep sleep. I wasn't fully in the hospital when it took an effect. I thought that I could not breathe and screamed for oxygen. The nurse stated that I was breathing just fine. Well, I didn't need oxygen, just a bad trip. Yes, nausea went away quickly. I guess it is effective, but not worth the trip, very scary."

"Promethazine syrup is what I started out with. It used to be real good for me to take away nausea whenever I would experience it. After having used it for over 10 years, I feel like it isn't working as effectively as it used to. I just found out that it has alcohol in it, and I no longer feel comfortable using it. I also own it in pill form (50mg). The pill is very strong, and I find that it leaves me feeling lethargic, dizzy, and it creates stomach upset. I don't understand how a pill that's supposed to help you when you're nauseous and sick can actually make you feel worse. The suppositories work the best for me. I don't have any side effects from it. And unlike a pill, I don't have to worry about it possibly coming back up again."

Promethazine "This has been a game changer for my migraines. If I do not catch them in time, I cannot keep anything down, which means the Imetrex doesn't have time to work. It becomes a vicious cycle and can last for a few days. Phenergan stops that cycle! The only drawback is the drowsiness - I am limited to taking 1/4 pill at a time so I can still function when the migraine has gone away. Do NOT drive until you know how this medicine will affect you."

Promethazine "Received Phenergan (IV) in the hospital for nausea and vomiting. Did not have any history of hypertension, but my blood pressure spiked after 3 doses of Phenergan. I am now on a beta blocker and have not been able to have my BP return to normal since being discharged. Just really a strange situation. Historically, I have not been on any medications."

"I have taken 25 mg promethazine for a few years now. I don’t take it every night, but the nights I have it are a godsend. I have gastroparesis, and so I'm nauseous all the time. I also have bad insomnia and usually bad stomach flares during the night, and this saves it. The only downside to this med is that you will wake up VERY tired usually and maybe dry mouth. It takes a bit to fully wake up. Also, after I take it, I notice myself being lowkey grumpy and irritable. But, I guess it’s better than nausea, insomnia, and throwing up! I will take it!"
