Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I take oxycodone for chronic persistent back pain because of spinal stenosis. As a result, I frequently have nausea and vomiting, roughly 4-5 times a week. My pain management doctor always prescribes Zofran which doesn’t help in the slightest. I tell him this, but he keeps prescribing it nonetheless. He says it is safe and doesn’t make you sleepy. I say if it doesn’t work, what good is it? My GI doctor gave me Phenergan, which does help, but he tells me to go back to the pain guy to get more. I go back, tell him, yet he just gives me more Zofran. DON'T YOU JUST LOVE PHYSICIANS WHO LISTEN TO THEIR PATIENTS (sarcasm)."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I've taken this medication on various occasions, and honestly, it's a lifesaver. Today, I woke up with a stomach bug. I got out of bed, drank a glass of water, and not even five minutes later, I was bent over the toilet. I laid down, and maybe half an hour later, again within two hours, I had taken six horrible, dry heaving, painful, and exhausting visits to the bathroom. Finally, I rushed to the doctor, where it happened one more time before being seen. She quickly gave me one of these, and I haven't thrown up or felt nauseous since. I've been able to keep down liquids and solids with ease. I see this medication as a great tool to help me get better faster than expected!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I’ve had a fear of vomiting for years (25+). Found out about this medication when my best friend had hyperemesis while pregnant, and it helped her stop vomiting. I asked my doctor if I could get it because I had such horrible anxiety about throwing up. I take Zofran 4-8 mg when I have bad nausea and anxiety, and it seems to help me. I did throw up once after taking it, but I think it was because I had worked myself up so much!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I was extremely hungover and was vomiting for about 14 hours non-stop before being prescribed Zofran. I know it seems silly to get medication for a hangover, but I was becoming dangerously dehydrated from binge drinking and heavy vomiting, as I was unable to keep even a sip of water down. Not even ten minutes after taking the medicine (dissolvable pills), I already felt significant relief from the nausea, and therefore the vomiting as well. A bit expensive, but completely worth it."

Ondansetron for Gastroenteritis "22 years on massive amounts of steroids to treat my Addison's... 22 years of vomiting most days. Many hospital stays. Severe gastroenteritis. First time trying this. It's amazing! It was prescribed by a lovely doc at my last trip to the ER. Sometimes you get lucky. My eating is broken. I'm a vibrant, beautiful 42-year-old woman, and I've been reduced to a meager 100 pounds. This helps. So far. Fingers crossed."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I've had central vertigo for years, but the nausea and vomiting have increased lately. My gastroenterologist prescribed Zofran 4 mg once a day. It's a miracle! I can go out and shop without vomiting in the aisles of the grocery store. I have my life back."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "In my chequered relationship with alcohol (35 yrs), I have found my way back to sobriety, crippled with nausea and vomiting many times. I have tried the usual suspects over the years. Medicines which increase motility (emptying of the stomach more quickly) right up to phenothiazines (used to relieve, amongst other things, seasickness and psychosis). Google anti-emetics. If you want to get sober, do it over a one-week to ten-day period with family support (probably more important than any drug). Ask your doctor for a serious anti-sickness drug, keep hydrated!!! Drink ginger tea! And rest. Good luck, my advice was sound for me. God bless, Dave. X"

Ondansetron for Gastroenteritis "Like one of the reviews above. I went into the ER with gastroenteritis symptoms. Could not keep down anything, including water, due to nausea and heavy vomiting of anything. Was given an injection of Zofran and a prescription for the generic ondansetron and felt less nauseous. Allows me to eat better and to sleep."

Ondansetron for Gastroenteritis "I’ve been sick with the stomach flu since last night. Ate dinner, then a couple of hours later was in the bathroom throwing up with major diarrhea. Stayed on the toilet literally all night. It was one of those “one little move and you feel like you’re going to throw up” times. Well, once morning came the puking stopped, but I was still really nauseous with dry heaves. So I called my doctor to see if there was anything I could take, and they recommended Zofran. Wow, is this a miracle drug! My nausea was gone within 10-15 minutes of taking it, and I was even able to hold down a couple of popsicles and water with it, until about an hour and a half ago when I started feeling nauseous again (the meds were wearing off, so I took another one, and within 10 minutes my nausea was gone! I even ate another popsicle and downed a little juice glass of water and didn’t throw up! If this little white, grape-flavored pill isn’t magic, then I don’t know what is!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I can't say enough about Zofran. I was curled in a fetal position in front of the bathroom, on the floor, in a cold sweat after vomiting for the last two hours. The last bout was dry heaving. Still, the nausea was crippling me. My wife gave me one pill, and within 30 minutes, the hell I was going through broke like an ocean tide receding. I keep Zofran in the medicine cabinet now, at all times."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I went through a pure nightmare during chemo for my triple negative BC in 2015. Nausea is an understatement. My oncologist told me that I was the worst patient she ever had with nausea. This is a woman who was practicing in the '70s when they still treated with mercury. I cannot tell you how many nausea medications I was prescribed. Zofran was by far the BEST medication at relieving my symptoms. Five years later I still cannot 'handle' any kind of nausea. I have an 'emergency' prescription that I have with me 24/7. I only need it maybe twice a year, but it is still the magic bullet that relieves any nausea/vomiting I may have. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MEDICATION!!!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I suffer from chronic lower back pain due to scoliosis and arthritis (42 yrs old). I also suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. I take Zofran almost daily to deal with the miseries of both lower back pain and digestive issues. I still have regular bouts of vomiting, however, Zofran will stop the pain and nausea that would continue for days and land me in the hospital with an IV delivering morphine into my system to stop the cycle of vomiting, nausea, and severe pain. I love my Zofran! It makes life 'livable.'"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "Horrible drug for me. Actually makes me nauseous and throws up. Nothing tastes right on this medication. One dose had me throwing up and nauseous, not able to eat for a couple of days. One dose had me constipated for about 5 days before I was back to normal (with taking stool softeners Rx after surgery). May work for some, but for me, it’s a NO go."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "Ever since the 5th week of my pregnancy, my morning sickness was terrible. I lost weight and couldn't keep a thing down. I could hardly get out of bed. My doctor prescribed Zofran, and it's been a huge help. Doesn't always take away the nausea feeling, but no more vomiting! Definitely recommend it."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting, Radiation Induced "I have esophageal cancer, having radiation daily and chemo weekly. This medicine is so precise about keeping the nausea and vomiting down, I can tell exactly when a dose is due: 1 every 12 hours. I am thankful this medicine is there. The side effects are very bearable (unknown concerning liver). It is very expensive, but if you have a severe issue, the money is not your main concern. If you have cancer, there are agencies that can help with the drug cost. Try AM Cancer Soc. Maybe they can help guide you. Keep your spirits up and prayers in your daily life. Take care."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I used to take Requip for restless leg syndrome, and sometimes it made me so sick I would vomit. Other nights it would be fine. One day I decided to call my PCP for a script of Zofran or Phenergan to help subside the horrible, nasty vomiting and nausea effects of Requip, and they wrote me a script of 12 4 mg Zofran swallowable tablets. It helped almost immediately (not within a minute, but 10 minutes or less), and then I decided to stop my Requip medication because it just made me sick. My RLS went away with other meds that I take, and while I still take Zofran, I enjoy it for any spur-of-the-moment 'I'M GONNA BE SICK' kind of feeling, so I always carry it with me. At a hospital visit, they gave me a dissolvable one that tasted like berries. Good med."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I have severe nausea and vomiting due to an extreme case of endometriosis. I have to be hospitalized because of pain, weakness, and dehydration because of severe vomiting. I can't even hold down a tiny sip of water for 2 minutes. I have tried every medication possible, and Zofran ODT is the only thing that gives me relief! It is a prescription I always have on hand at all times."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I must say I don't have cancer, and I don't have a disease, I have a spasmodic colon, which in turn gives me a severe case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with constipation. I usually have a bowel movement every 6-11 days, and when I do, I get extremely ill with uncontrollable vomiting due to the pain. I've tried several non-dissolving medications, and I've found that Zofran ODT (8 mg) is the best, and I will stick with it as long as it continues to work for me. I hope someone finds this helpful. If you have any form of illness that causes severe vomiting, I recommend Zofran ODT."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I'm pregnant with my first. I was vomiting and couldn't keep anything down for the first 2 and a half months and lost nearly 13 kilograms in that time. I started taking the ondansetron 4 mg wafers (dissolvables) around the 2 and a half month mark, and they worked wonders. Within 5-10 minutes of taking one, I was feeling great and could conquer my day, but every now and again I take one, and I feel the same, if not worse. So they work great, but not all the time!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting "I have taken Zofran on and off for over 10 years. I have been given it after surgery for nausea and vomiting. Also, now again for gastroparesis. Sometimes the nausea and fullness in my stomach are very uncomfortable. Because there are little to no medications or non-invasive therapies, I sometimes will use this to help settle my stomach. While it does nothing for motility, it does alleviate rough times."

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I had a very long treatment time, 3X a week, 2 8-hour sessions with three types of chemo radiation. It was every 3rd week, Wed, Thur, and Fri. Wed/Thur were 8-hour sessions, Fri, 4 hours. I was constantly vomiting, morning, noon, and night. I took this from the get-go, but after about my 2nd session, I threw up a lot in the mornings, or if I coughed too hard even. I know it would have been SO much worse without the Zofran. I think with the amount of treatment I had, both chemo and radiation, to both my chest and to my brain that I was VERY lucky I wasn't more sick, and frankly, I'm lucky to be here at all. Thank you, Cancer Treatment Center, and of course, thank you, God!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am 7 weeks pregnant, and around 6 weeks, the 'morning' sickness began. I missed 2 days of work because I was miserable. I finally decided to call my doctor because I did not want to be missing work, especially since no one knows yet. It works great! I can make it through the day at work without constantly feeling like I need to vomit. I still get stomach aches and a little constipation, not sure if it's related to the medicine, but I'd take that over the nausea and vomiting any day. It's a lifesaver for the workday!"

Ondansetron for Nausea/Vomiting, Radiation Induced "After radiation, my husband could not keep anything down. If he coughed, sneezed, brushed his teeth, or just consumed food, he would throw up. For Nausea/Vomiting "I have a condition called gastroparesis, and for three years, I was in bed for 3 to 5 days a week, vomiting all day. I didn't have a life, it was slowly killing me. My doctor gave me every kind of medicine to try with no relief. Then she gave me Zofran, and it was a miracle for me! I take 8 MG, and I still will occasionally be nauseated, sometimes with vomiting, but as of now, it's been six weeks, and then it was only for a few hours. If anyone has suffered from this, it is horrible! I realize it may not work for everyone, but I was totally at the end of my rope, and this saved my life! I do have to take a laxative once in a while, but I'd rather do that than live the way I was!"

Ondansetron for Gastroenteritis "I'm unsure with this one. Yes, it helps the nausea a little, but I was admitted to the hospital for acute gastro - had two IV lots of this and Maxalon - lots of IV fluids - and vomited on my way out of the hospital - and every 30 minutes all night following. When I've been in the hospital and had this drug for HG (severe morning sickness), it did work, and I was asking for water and food within half an hour. I've just taken a 4 mg dissolvable and am on day 2 of the dreaded bug. Keep your fingers crossed for me xoxo."
