"I suffer from depression, anxiety, irritability, and anger. I recently fell into a deep depression, was suicidal, and began cutting myself. I was admitted to a psych ward for 4 days and was prescribed 5 mg olanzapine, and my fluoxetine was reduced to 10 mg from 30. I'm doing so much better with this combination. I'm not as anxious as I used to be. My depression is about gone completely, and I'm more patient with society. I've been on it for 2 weeks. The only downside is that I am starving all the time. No food can satisfy my stomach. I'm 6' and 150 lb, so I don't care if I gain weight, but my mom has type II diabetes, so I'm paranoid about taking this medication, which doesn't help my situation."

Olanzapine "Prescribed Zyprexa after taking Duloxetine/Cymbalta made me suicidal. It did mellow my mood, helped me gain back the 30 lbs I had lost during the height of illness. Hated the inability to laugh or cry. Hated the dry mouth. As a dancer, the stiff, dry joints were dangerous. I hurt my knee because of the extreme change in my flexibility. Took it for 3 months."

"Typical antipsychotic, makes you sleep, gain weight, and suffer from sexual side effects. Disconnects you from all emotions, and you walk around like a zombie. This one, though, has the added effect of DOUBLE the weight gain. My girlfriend gained 45 pounds in 4 months on this. All atypicals should just be gone as far as I'm concerned. They should only be used for people with serious psychosis, delusions, and hallucinations. Doctors are giving them to everyone because they know SSRIs fail more than half the time, and they will do anything to avoid giving a benzo because they care only about their license and stopped caring about the patients. Signed and attested by me, a psychiatrist myself that specializes in mood disorder and addiction. Plot twist: We don't like giving it as much as you don't like taking it!"

"I've been very happy with having this added to my antidepressant. My doc put me on a low dose early last month because my depression wasn't fully lifting...and I feel better than I have in at least the last couple of years. I'm actually able to get things done and I feel overall better."

Olanzapine "I had an episode of major depressive disorder and was given this med. I weighed 154 and have never had a weight problem. Within about 6-8 months, I gained 60 pounds! It increases your appetite but also slows your metabolism by a lot. At the higher doses, I had stomach issues like diarrhea daily. I had bad nausea 90% of every day and lived on ginger. We’ve been lowering it now very slowly for a few months, and I completely stopped it 2 weeks ago. The side effects are terrible. I’ve missed so much work as I’ve had horrible migraines, weakness, shakiness, etc. This is a horrible medication!!!"

"I have been diagnosed with F33.1 (Major depressive disorder, recurrent, moderate) and F60.3 (Borderline personality disorder) as my secondary diagnosis. My treatment plan included the following: - Olanzapine (0-0-1) 5mg - Venlafaxine (1-0-0) 75mg - Valproic Acid (1-0-1) 250mg. It did almost immediately relieve my symptoms. However, the treatment had several side effects that were debilitating and have led me and my psychiatrist to discontinue olanzapine as an adjuvant: - Loss of ability to concentrate. I work as a senior Java developer in charge of my own projects, and using olanzapine has led me to stutter and forget words during meetings, unable to keep conversations or explain my recommendations to my clients. - Sleeping 12-14 hours a day. While I did have a normal night's sleep, I wasn't able to keep up an activity for more than 30 mins. - Minor movement issues. I sometimes had lip tremors, especially while having facial expressions."

Olanzapine "This drug didn't do shit to me. It actually made me feel worse. My doctor doesn't want to take me off it. I've been taking it for 3 weeks for anxiety and it hasn't done anything. Plus, I have put on 7 kilos. My dosage is 7.5 mg."

"10 mg of this olanzapine per day plus 20 mg Prozac has made a huge difference. Less anxiety, less depression, only side effect has been tiredness, but that’s only a small price to pay! Wonderful and wish I’d tried it before."

Olanzapine "It made me sick, made me have a horrible gut pain, and spent a 24-hour period vomiting stomach acid. I had to go to two different ERs and get a CAT scan because morphine wouldn't even touch the gut pain."

"I just started taking the drug olanzapine. However, I am having problems with rapid weight gain. In only 6 days of taking the drug, I have gained 6 pounds. Tomorrow, I'm starting to exercise at least 20 minutes a day. Mentally, I am feeling much better. I am currently taking 5 mg of olanzapine along with 40 mg of fluoxetine once daily for major depressive disorder. I know this medication is working because I am willing to exercise. So far, so good."

"Have been on 2.5 mg - 5 mg of olanzapine for about nine months now to help with my depression (I also take an antidepressant). The good: I’ve noticed I don’t have the same level of anger flare-ups as I did before, and my general mood is definitely better. The bad: I’m a little more tired than I think I would be otherwise, but for some reason, that’s not every day. Could be a factor other than the med. I’ve also gained a few pounds. My conclusion is, at least for now, I’m willing to put up with the side effects since the med does a lot toward me not dealing with severe depression."

"This drug is the worst! Please, if your doctor has prescribed this drug, try to find something else with the doctor’s assistance. I got on olanzapine, and within two weeks, I felt like a zombie and could barely keep my eyes awake to drive my children to school (none of the coffee or energy drinks I downed all day worked). I started craving sweets and carbs like a fiend. I couldn’t not eat them. I am typically a balanced and disciplined eater. Within six weeks, I gained 10 lbs. I told my doctor I had to get off this drug. I was on a small dose and tapered off quickly. I immediately began waking up with such extreme panic I thought I could die. It was one of the worst feelings I have ever had physically. The only way to “survive” this was to take another drug that knocked me out and sleep through the panic till the afternoon. Not only that, my depression came back with a fury. And my fatigue was so intense most days I got back in bed to sleep for hours. This all lasted 2-3 months."

"I am opioid dependent for nearly 5 years. Subs and methadone are the medications I rotate, never together. Since starting Zyprexa 2 weeks ago, my worries, agitation, and depression have gone. My medication is the following: 80 mg methadone daily (mornings), 15 mg mirtazapine before bed, and 5 mg wafer Zyprexa mid-afternoon. Only since adding Zyprexa have all my worries and depression been absolved. Incredible medication. In a wafer lollie. If you are opioid dependent like me, suboxone or methadone, and you still feel a bit off. SSRIs are not working. Talk to your doctor about Zyprexa wafers. People worry about weight gain on Zyprexa. But a calorie is a calorie. Fasting, you'll be okay. Food cravings have not really increased. Fast fast in the mornings and you will be fine. Balanced diet after lunchtime and you'll be fine."

"I was prescribed olanzapine as an adjuvant to a major depressive episode, along with Trazodone. I had taken it before during another depressive episode, along with Cymbalta (Duloxetine). I was on either 5 or 10 mg. On both occasions, it caused me akathisia (a feeling of being unable to stand still, move constantly, internal restlessness, and even suicidal thoughts). If anything, it made my depression worse. I’m in the process of removing it from my treatment plan. Hope the akathisia will go away as it did in the past."

"I've been diagnosed with psychosis and major depressive disorder. I got prescribed olanzapine in January. It was the only antipsychotic that didn't make me want to kill myself after increasing the dose. It made me numb to just about everything and I gained 28 pounds. However, it did cure my psychotic symptoms. I notice a lack of energy in my personality. I find it harder to socialize with people, but I'm not sure if it's because of anxiety or if it is actually the olanzapine making me slower."
