For Dry Eye Disease "Started using Systane Complete after the pharmacist recommended it to help with the sudden appearance of floaters. I made an appointment with an optometrist a week away. I started getting light streaks that night after two doses, but I didn't make the connection. Blurry vision as well. I thought it had something to do with the floaters. After a week, I had a complete retinal scan and eye test and was all clear. Nothing wrong. The floaters were normal. I mentioned the light streaks, and he said to keep watch for them, but he could see no reason for them. I did not mention I was using Systane. On a whim, I decided to look up the side effects. I was shocked and somewhat relieved that others had the same symptoms...light streaks and blurry vision. Sweet Jesus! This stuff is dangerous! I threw it out...and hope the light streaks stop."

For Dry Eye Disease "My eye doctor prescribed Systane for dry eye. I started using the product right after my exam, once a day, and since then I had issues with my eyes. Some kind of dizziness, sensitivity to light, and some eventual blurry vision and pain in the back of my eyes, it came and went. I went back to the doctor after one week to check what was going on, as I did not present any of those symptoms before the eye exam. The eye doctor said that I was not using the drops enough times a day. So, I used them more. But I started noticing that weird sensation in my eyes after I used them, like very heavy eyes that would last for hours. So I started to decrease the use of the drops, and my eyes seemed to be getting better, but I still have the heaviness that comes from time to time. So I started to research because I have been dealing with this for almost a month, and by reading these reviews, I am almost sure it is the drops. I am not using them anymore. Thank God it was not such a long time."

For Dry Eye Disease "I actually just did a search, “Systane causing grainy residue,” and I was shocked to find that other people have had side effects from these drops. I have also experienced worsened itching, burning, and blurred vision. I will not use these. I will inform the optometrist who recommended it."

For Dry Eye Disease "Just picked a bottle of 'Complete' based on a doctor's recommendation. The bottle's in the trash after a second use. The eyes felt MUCH worse after use than before. Maybe the gel would be better, but with $10 up in smoke, it won't be Systane."

"I had a tear in my retina and needed to use a good eye drop after my laser surgery. I started using these drops and experienced horrible cramping and diarrhea. My doctor said she had never heard of that side effect, but when I googled the active ingredient, it’s used as a laxative! I’m stopping today and finding other drops."

For Dry Eye Disease "So glad I found this site. I have had dry eyes for years. I used different kinds of eye drops, but mostly Systane Ultra and gel. Three months ago, I had YAG laser treatment for post-cataract surgery. Ever since then, I had cloudy vision due to floaters. One month ago, we moved, and I only had the Systane Ultra on hand, not the gel. So I just used Ultra. The floaters started clearing up. Three days ago, I bought the gel and started using it. Now the floaters are back. I am going to trash all the Systane bottles and find something that won't affect my vision."

For Dry Eye Disease "Has severe dry eyes and my eye doctor recommended the Systane Gel Eye drops - they were uncomfortable at first to use as they seemed to make my vision a bit blurry and eyelashes sticky, but prior to using them, my eye doctor had warned me of this and recommended taking it once only before bed instead. It's a medication that isn't really supposed to be used long-term and multiple times a day (I've seen other comments where people have apparently been told to use them 4 times a day for 4 weeks, which sounds very excessive...). All in all, Systane worked well for me as I didn't use it frequently as per my eye doctor's recommendation. It would be blurry and a bit 'sticky' before bed, but in the morning my eyes did feel less scratchy, and I supplemented these with other single-use eyedrops during the day to keep my eyes nice and wet. So far so good! I've been told to use it for only two weeks and no more than that, so one more week to go and no real ill effects so far."

For Dry Eye Disease "I notice this week my eyes were dry, I placed 2 eye drops of Systane Ultra High Performing Dry Eye Relief in each of my eyes. Within minutes, the back right side of my head began to hurt and throb. I knew this eye drop caused the pain. I read about the main ingredient polyethylene glycol 400 0.4 can cause head pain."

For Dry Eye Disease "I was using Systane Ultra and Complete as recommended by my eye specialist. I also use Azopt and Lumigan drops for glaucoma. I had been using the glaucoma drops for at least 2 years without problems. Shortly after starting to use the Systane, it became very uncomfortable installing the Azopt and Lumigan drops. After approx. a couple of months of Systane use, I decided to try to figure out why my eyes had become so sensitive to light and why it hurt so much when installing my glaucoma drops. I stopped the use of Systane, and after a couple of days or so, no more eye stinging or sensitivity to light. Not everyone will have my same problems, but just giving Systane users a heads up.....Don Little"

For Dry Eye Disease "I do not like Systane UD, as it does not help my dry eye. The drops are too thick and do not dissolve too easily in the eye. It makes my eye and around it too sticky, and I have to wash the eyelid after use. It gives me more gritty eyes. Unfortunately, I bought three boxes in one go but had to stop using them after a few days. I have to bin the rest of these expensive eye drops. Never again buy any Systane products."

For Dry Eye Disease "Caused horrible migraines and nausea both times using drops, within 30-40 minutes of using 1 drop per eye. First time I did not think it was due to drops, second time, 2 days later, I realized the cause was the drops. Caused a migraine both times... not a headache, but full-on migraine!"

For Dry Eye Disease "I have allergies, and my eyes get itchy, so I thought I would try Systane to soothe my irritated eyes. When I put a drop in each eye, my eyes became blurred over, and I could not see! As it dissipated some, I could not longer read the information on the box! It damaged my eyes! I flushed my eyes out three times with water, and it still didn’t help! They felt itchy and sticky. That evening, my right eye had a lump that appeared on my lower lid, which is still there! And my eyesight from the eye drops on Friday is still not back to normal! How can a company produce a product that is not safe to use? I am going to call my attorney!"

For Dry Eye Disease "This has been my brand for the past 15 years, the product is very good. But the new bottle introduced in 2022 is not working well for me, the drop that forms at the tip most of the time is too big, like 3 drops in one. The product is wasted, it also doesn't fall always vertically in the line of the tip, so there is also wasted product. The former container was better."

For Dry Eye Disease "Gave me swollen and puffy eyelids. I quit using Systane lid wipes and Systane complete drops as they made my eyelids puffy. Now I see that Drugs.com lists this as a side effect. Don't take a chance with your eyes. Costco may have to stop stocking this product."

For Dry Eye Disease "I had some chemical go into my eyes on 18th December. The only symptom was some white discharge. I was put on Moxigram LX and Systane Ultra. Since 6th January, I have been seeing floaters and flashes. I went and got my eye retina checked and got to know that the vitreous fluid is sticking very tightly to the back of the eye, and I may get a retinal tear when it separates. I feel my vitreous fluid has changed its properties due to Systane Ultra, as I have started seeing flashes and floaters only recently (6th Jan). I may be wrong. I can't say. I have stopped Systane Ultra today. Will report back and tell you all if my symptoms stop."

For Dry Eye Disease "Started using Systane on the advice of an optometrist. It seemed to make my eyes burn, but I was under the impression that it was fairly benign medication. After a few months of using it periodically, it has become obvious to me that Systane has been the cause of my blurry vision and eye irritation. I woke up with some bad floaters and thought that it was the beginning of a retinal detachment. Kind of scary, and I don't know if it can be attributed to the use of Systane, but I can tell you that I will not use it anymore. You make your own decisions, but I would not advise its use."

For Dry Eye Disease "I used Systane Relief for Dry Eyes about 5 years ago and felt my eyes got drier every day. The day I stopped was when both of my corneas tore when I woke up and opened my eyes due to my eyes being so dry. I saw my optometrist and contacted Systane. Systane quickly sent a courier to pick up their product and never reported anything back to me. I called them, and they wouldn't respond. 5 years later, I am having laser surgery to repair my cornea where I had the most damage and lost 1/2 of my vision in that eye."

For Dry Eye Disease "I've used this wonderful product for years, but now I must change. The shape of the new bottle is awful. The product spills all over my face. What was a month's supply now only lasted 1/2 the time or less. I don't know if the design is to create waste so users must buy more, or if it's just a stupid design that I hope is corrected soon."

For Dry Eye Disease "I used Systane Ultra Drops, and I have been experiencing a painful ache in my eye ever since I put the drops in. Had used the gel before with no problem, so I am very surprised. Not happy with the product nor the response when I talked with Systane. Asked to have them send me the medical information containing the pharmacology, indications, and contraindications in detail. All they sent me was a copy of the back of the box."

For Dry Eye Disease "After a period of Dr. appointments for red, sore eyes, I was given Systane. At first, I thought they were amazing but a bit sticky. Then, I wondered why my eyes felt like they were turning in or twitching. Today, I had to cancel my plans because it was like I had double vision. I realized it started about the same time as the drops and checked here. I must never use again!"

For Dry Eye Disease "Glaucoma patient with a corneal graft who needs lubricant for dry eye. Was using Refresh ointment without incident. When I ran out, I was given Systane Original lubricant eye drops for use 4 times a day. After a few days, I developed SEVERE pain in my eye. My eye was BLOODshot, lid was swollen, I could barely open it to take my glaucoma drops. Stopped taking it right away. I also wasn’t told about preservative vs. preservative-free. I am hoping that when this nightmare is over, my vision will not be worse. I’ve already been through enough. Be forewarned."

"Systane lubricant eye drops have been a lifesaver for my dry eye condition. I have used all of the Systane products and have never had a problem. I am currently using RESTASIS also, but still have to use the Systane products (Ultra, Balance, and Gel). Some of the conditions described above may be due to the preservatives used in the multidose products. In that case, there are individual one-time use vials available that are preservative-free."

For Dry Eye Disease "My doctor prescribed Systane: 1 drop in each eye twice a day. I have used it for about 3 weeks. Lately, my eyelashes have been stuck together when I wake. This morning, I noticed they have become short and are almost gone. I am stopping Systane immediately. Forget Systane if you want your eyes to look nice."

For Eye Redness "Systane (long-lasting) makes my eyes blurry, and they stay blurry for quite a long time. However, Systane Ultra is just terrific. I have been using it for glaucoma with dry eyes for a couple of years now and find that it relaxes my eyes as well as moisturizes them. The Systane (long-lasting) was purchased in error. Went back and got the Systane Ultra again, and all is great. I highly recommend it for dry eye problems."
