Nifedipine "Since using Adalat XL for 2 weeks, it first of all lowered the blood pressure significantly. Then, BP was out of control again. Started off with the Cipalat for the first 2 weeks given by the pharmacist, then decided since Adalat was prescribed to get that to see if it would work better. Then, feet started swelling immensely, diuretics helped nothing. Then went on like this for the rest of the month. Started to have shortness of breath, wheezing, pulse rate went up by 10 per minute, then started to have a very uncomfortable stomach, pain in the liver area, constipated and windy all over. Had pain in the groin and genitals, was irritable, sleepless, and depressed. Stopped the stuff, but it has been a week now and my feet are still swollen and still very windy, and my stomach is still blown up. How long will this take to subside?"

For Hypertensive Emergency "I started with hydralazine 100 mg every 8 hours. It worked for blood pressure, from 175/115 in the hospital, dropped to 105/68. Good BP, but for heart rate up to 112. I went to my cardiologist and he put me on nifedipine ER 60 mg. Blood pressure still good at 110/72 and now pulse rate down to 85-92. Much better for me in the last month. Still on other medicines and starting CPAP therapy. Also had a stress test and no heart disease or coronary artery disease. Had venous ablation on both legs."

For High Blood Pressure "I am trying to conceive (TTC), so I had to get off Hydrochlorothiazide medication per my ob-gyn. Went to labetalol 2 times a day and wasn't happy with the itchy scalp and sleepiness. So, I got on nifedipine 30 mg ER and yesterday I was just sitting on my couch when I got super flush and overheated and felt very lightheaded and not myself. My BP shot up to 147/95/101, and I'm never that high on meds. I hurried up and took my beta blocker to see if it would help control it. After a bit, it went down enough to get to bed. Well, I get home from work tonight and my ears start getting very flush, then my neck and my legs. I start getting lightheaded and knew it was like the night before. So, I took my beta blocker and think it's starting to catch it. I'm a hot-natured person, so this flush thing, no matter what time of the year, I can't do it. This drug has not lowered my BP consistently. I'll be calling my doc tomorrow and going back on the labetalol for sure."

Nifedipine "I took this drug Procardia for membranous glomerulonephritis as one dose in my doctor's office and sat there for an hour. No reaction. I went home, and an hour after that, I started vomiting. All my body functions moved... urine, bowels. My head was exploding. My son had to drive me to the hospital. My blood pressure was so high that it took hours to get it down. Demoral. I cannot take calcium channels. If you do genetic pharmacological testing, it will give you the drug interactions and genes involved. Mine was CYP3A5, also CYP2D6, depending on how a drug is converted to active or inactive metabolites."

Nifedipine for High Blood Pressure "I have been prescribed this medicine for my out-of-control blood pressure. First week, no problems, and my blood pressure went down tremendously. The second week, not so good. I had muscle pains in my stomach and legs! Also, my lips swelled up so bad! I couldn't continue taking that, now I'm just on lisinopril."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I have experienced many ways of taking nifedipine to get rid of the headaches. My doctor has me taking 30 mg XL 3 times a day instead of 90 mg once a day, and I got rid of the headaches and all those other symptoms that you sometimes get."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on a different brand of Adalat CC 30 mg. I am a military widow, so I fill most of my prescriptions at military base pharmacies. In Dec. 2011, I had my prescription filled and noted the pill was different in color and size. The military pharmacist told me the government had changed to a different drug company for Adalat and it might take three or more weeks before the new drug formula would work for me. Six weeks later, my blood pressure is not being controlled as well as my former Adalat prescription did. I can't switch to another brand for 90 days because TriCare for Life will not let me fill a new prescription until I run out of the brand I received. I cannot afford to pay over $110 at a civilian pharmacy to change to another brand."

For High Blood Pressure "3 weeks, 40 mg Lisinopril, BP still at 150/100. Went back to the doc yesterday, 170/100 in his office. He switched me to nifedipine, and I asked if he thought buspirone would help me, he prescribed it also. Took those two with 0.5 mg of Klonopin. 121/71 after a rough night of work. I have been trying to find the magic bullet for 11 years. I pray this is it. Too soon to tell. I will post again in a month."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "It most definitely works at stopping my attacks when the cold hits. I used to have attacks all day, even if I just opened the refrigerator to take out the milk, my hands would turn white. However, I get really bad muscle spasms, mostly on my legs, but it can be all over. I only take it when the temperature is cold, and I know I will be outside watching a sporting event. I just started taking it again this week and have been getting muscle spasms in my jaw and behind my ribs, as well as my calves. It is the old thing that allows me to be outside to watch my kids' games, so I will use it on a limited basis."

For High Blood Pressure "Started taking Nifedipine 30 mg once a day for high blood pressure for about two weeks, with no side effects. Controlled my blood pressure well, but the day before yesterday, I began to have chest pains that sent me to the ER last night and were determined to be muscular. Now tonight, they are off and on and are so strong I may go back. On the recommendation from the ER doctor, I did not take my dose last night, and my symptoms have not improved. Tonight, my chest pains are much worse. Hoping to talk to my doctor about a suitable alternative Monday."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I just started using this medication for my Raynaud's flare-ups, which made me extremely cold, especially at night. Procardia XL has been great for improving the circulation in my hands and feet and has kept me warm. My only complaint about the medication is the tension headaches I have been getting since starting the medication and facial flushing. Both are easy to deal with, though."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I recently started taking Adalat CC. I have found that if I take it before bed instead of in the mornings, I don't get headaches, but if I take it in the morning, I feel funny and have a headache for most of the morning. I have found that I still have Raynaud's attacks, but I recover somewhat better, and I don't get as numb as I did, but I still get splotchy on my hands, and some blueness shows sometimes."

For Hypertensive Emergency "I was recently taken off of nifedipine because of the “rare” side effects I experienced! I thought I had a pulmonary embolism or an impending heart attack! I felt terrible. I was on it for postpartum preeclampsia and felt worse taking it. Even though it helped control my BP, I had to stop it."

For High Blood Pressure "I am a mom who is pregnant with a second child. I have had chronic high BP my whole life due to renal stenosis. I’ve been on lisinopril since I was 10 years old, but unfortunately, I can't take that while pregnant. Off of meds, I run about 190/110. Every BP med that is safe for pregnancy does NOTHING for me. Labetalol, methyldopa, and verapamil do not even lower it in the slightest. Nifedipine lowers mine to around 135/85. I hate the side effects, and my heart rate is through the roof on this med, but I am grateful it works and allows me to bring children into this world safely. Without this medication, I would not be able to have children. The second I give birth, I will immediately stop taking this and switch back to my normal med. The high heart rate and shortness of breath are temporary! I wouldn’t recommend this med for someone taking it long-term, but for a pregnant mama, it definitely works!"

Nifedipine for High Blood Pressure "Been taking this med Nifedical XL for 2 weeks, and my pressure is still high. I was taking Atorvastatin 10 mg for my cholesterol before, then the doctor gave me a new one that is Nifedical XL 30 mg for my blood pressure, and my pressure is still high."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "Raynaud's primary syndrome diagnosed in 1997. Nothing happened until 2011 when I had a blood clot in my left calf. My toes started to turn purple and the hospital had decided to amputate my left leg 3 inches below the knee. I went online and found Nifedipine XL. Had my doctor order it for me, and in 2 weeks, it calmed my pain in my foot, so it healed. All the skin peeled off with some toenails, and today I'm on 60 mg once daily. Now, I've noticed that whenever my body has a stressful event-chronic migraine (Botox) helps so much. But when I do get a migraine that happens when my next shot is close to the due date (every 3 months), I'll get an aura with a migraine, and my Raynaud's will kick in more with the itching at first. Don't scratch-running water over it."

Nifedipine for High Blood Pressure "Worked like it said, it's lowered my blood pressure on the first day. Been trying to get my blood pressure under control for the last 6 months. On the other hand, it blocks you up, like your stomach is in pain, and I mean pain. The pain gets better after about 5 days."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking nifedipine for almost 2 years. At my 37-week check, my blood pressure was creeping up. I got induced, and my bp remained 140/90. I was first put on labetalol, which works, but every 2 weeks the dosage was having to be increased. So then they put me on nifedipine, which works, but now after a year of being on it, I'm noticing weight gain, upper stomach pains, and swollen ankles and calves. Thinking it's time for me to switch up. I sometimes wake up to a consistent headache that would last all day."

For Premature Labor "I was prescribed this RX to help with a TTT situation with my twins. After taking the med the first time, it literally felt like fire in my throat and would not stop, along with my heart racing and feeling my pulse in my ears. I took it a second time in the hospital, and the same side effects, but this time it dropped my BP so low I actually passed out. The last dose taken was at 9:30 am, and it is currently 9:30 pm and still have the heart thumping with feeling my pulse in my ears. This med is awful! I never have any issues with medication, but this one my body could not tolerate."

For High Blood Pressure "Got changed to nifedipine 60mg XL. 3rd meds changed within 4 weeks. 1st day, 9:30, and slept. 17:00 got up feeling loopy. 18:00 shivers, any slight cough would bring a retching, yakking episode that lasted 5 to 10 minutes. I could do this at will. I could cough on purpose, and retching episodes would follow within seconds. I felt droopy, sleepy, my hands were clammy. About an hour later, it would go away, and I would feel okay, but not quite right, so I slept. NEXT DAY. I did not take it. I let this get out of my system. Woke up sweaty at 04:30. The cough brought the retching, dry heaves for 15 minutes. Other than that, I felt fine. 08:00, BP was 127/91. I drove to the store, got increasing tingly feeling in my hands, fingers, shoulders, and behind ears. Symptoms of panic attack. Made it home and to bed. At noon, switched back to amlodipine and chlorothalidone. Drank plenty of water. 14:00 tried cough test. Great, no dry heave retching! I felt better and also got 0.5mg alprazolam. It takes time to get accustomed to meds."

For High Blood Pressure "Just prescribed this drug. I have had high blood pressure since 2004, no drugs have been able to lower it. Altace damn near killed me, my uvula was on my tongue. The doctors throw drugs at it, but what is the cause? No one can tell me. Why do they think my calcium channels need to be blocked? Is that what is causing it? While on meds, BP is consistently 190/113. On December 24, 2015, it was 204/142 on meds, no headache."

"When you first begin taking nifedipine, it causes migraines for about the first 3 days. If you miss 2 or more doses, it causes headaches, flushing, and nausea. I developed a rash and swelling on one side of my face. The rash covered my body. Do not take if you are taking vitamin C or B complex."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking nifedipine ER 60 mg, and my gums became swollen and bleeding when I brushed my teeth. Went to the periodontist, and she said nifedipine had been shown to cause swollen gums. Went to the cardiologist and primary care, and neither would change the med until I told primary care that I would find another doctor if he didn't change it. So he lowered it to 30 mg. Gums still swollen but not as badly. I'm going to stop taking nifedipine 30 for a few weeks and see what happens."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "They think I just have primary Raynaud's. I'm not entirely convinced... Side effects took a week to get used to. They still come and go. My heart rate is higher now, I get a recurring sore throat, and headache. But the Raynaud's episodes are less frequent and shorter. But I am uncomfortable much of the time due to the side effects."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I was started on this medication at 30 mg, then 60 mg daily. It has been bumped up to 90 mg. I finally am starting to notice. My hands seem to be warm more frequently and not freezing. And I now can put my hands under cold water without them burning. I'm actually surprised this medication is actually working."
