Nifedipine for Raynaud's Syndrome "I've been taking this medication for quite a while for Raynaud's. I was concerned about my naturally low blood pressure, but the doctor said it wouldn't be affected. Seems that is the case. As far as Raynaud's, there are a few medicines I take that I describe as 'I'm sure it helps, I'm not sure how much, don't want to find out what it's like without it.' Also, my Raynaud's is accompanied by mixed connective tissue disease to complicate matters."

For Hypertensive Emergency "OMG, this is the worst medicine to take for hypertension during pregnancy! I was given this after I lost my first twin, and they kept adjusting it. A week later, after the adjustments, my baby died at 28 weeks. I had to deliver naturally. Next pregnancy, all was good until Christmas. I was past 30 weeks, and my OB said I needed it to control my BP. I needed another option, but they said this was the best and okay to use in pregnancy. At 38 weeks, I went into natural labor, and my baby died. The baby was perfectly healthy before the medicine, and then I was given the medicine, and she died. Please, please, please don’t take this medicine if you are pregnant!!!!! I have now lost 3 babies from preeclampsia/hypertension and nifedipine!"

Nifedipine for Raynaud's Syndrome "I started the nifedipine/Procardia this morning. About 4 hours later, the rare side effects kicked in. Heart palpitations, dizziness, headache, and I was FREEZING. Even at 43, I still call my mommy. She wasn't thrilled I was going to take it anyway since I have perfect blood pressure. But she recommended laying on my left side. That did help, even if it did take a while for me to get warm again. The headache is still lingering."

For High Blood Pressure "I took Procardia for about 3 years while in college, and I was at a point I was sleeping 18+ hours a day and still tired all the time. I had put on about 60 lbs. and felt horrible, and my blood pressure was erratic at best. I hated this medication!!!!"

Nifedipine for Raynaud's Syndrome "Previous doctors did nothing to help me resolve attacks. My new doctor suggested Procardia, but was worried because my blood pressure was low, and I may feel light-headed as a side effect. So far, this has not happened, and I have not had an attack since. I wish this was prescribed to me 10 years ago!"

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I do notice a difference! Headaches were a problem at first, but then they went away after about two weeks. You recover quicker from an attack. My left middle finger is completely normal, but my right middle finger is still a little purple, but better for sure! Going to take it for the winter months!"

For High Blood Pressure "Started in October 2019, nifedipine 60 mg, along with spironolactone, 25 mg, in the morning. Take metoprolol, 25 mg, at night. High blood pressure detected past January 2019 (age 82). Started on amlodipine; spironolactone was added. While it did move the BP lower, it was still high. Was also taking metoprolol. Significant drop since started with nifedipine and seems to be holding. Side effect: perhaps more urinating at night. Heart issue: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I am 33 and have SLE with Raynaud's. I do not have high blood pressure, I am actually on the low side. I took this medicine at 3:30 pm, and by 5 pm I developed a severe headache. This headache continued all evening, and at 9:30 pm I was shaking severely, dizzy, and the headache was the worst one I have ever experienced. At that point, I started to get very scared. I called my brother over just in case I needed to go to the ER. When he arrived, he immediately wanted to call an ambulance. I ended up waiting it out, and finally the shaking subsided. The headache still continued the next day, but it was not as severe. The night when everything was going on, I do not remember much of anything. I think from now on I will just keep my blue fingers and toes."

For High Blood Pressure "My cardiologist was really conscientious about putting me on a high blood pressure medication because of my age and reactions to most medications. She gave me 30-day prescriptions for a few months, and I had to go to monthly follow-ups for about 6 months. I had dizziness for about 3 weeks, but that resolved itself. I also had episodes of extreme tiredness, which a B-complex took care of. I've been taking nifedipine 30 mg once a day for about 3 years, and it's kept my blood pressure under control. The one thing I did learn from my pharmacist was that I tolerated the Procardia XL generic better than the Adalat CC generic. Both are generics for nifedipine, but the delivery is different. The Procardia generic has a tiny hole on one side of the pill. The Adalat generic doesn't have the tiny hole and has embossed numbering/lettering. I'm lucky that I have a pharmacist who notes that preference for me in my profile."

For High Blood Pressure "The first 9 or 10 months on nifedipine for high BP, I had a lot of the same side effects others have mentioned. Specifically, dizziness, headache, extreme fatigue, edema in my ankles and feet, muscle weakness, flushing, etc. I have even had some hallucinations, not sure I can attribute that to the medication, though. A couple of months ago, the dosage was increased from 30 mg to 60 mg because there was a stretch where it wasn't seemingly working as well. Well, the 60 mg was working okay at first, then we started working from home, and it kept dropping my blood pressure to dangerous levels, to the point of passing out. I went back to 30 mg, and my blood pressure is close to where it needs to be some of the time, but it seems to be the best I can get on this medication. Close, but no cigar, as they say. I'm mostly upset with the swelling in my legs and feet, I can't wear my shoes anymore or some of my pants, and to get the swelling down, I have to lie down with my feet up for at least half a day to be able to slip on shoes."

For High Blood Pressure "I started taking Nifedipine for blood pressure. I took it for 2 days, and I noticed my fingers swelling because my ring was always loose, and it became tight. I also experienced what felt like my heart lunging out of my chest. It gave me a good scare, I was afraid to go to sleep on the 2nd evening and never took another one. I am now on lisinopril that has hydrochlorothiazide in it. I feel great on that, my blood pressure is so much better. It was 209/92, but now it is down to 142 over 76. They started me off on a lower dose of lisinopril for two weeks, but today they raised it a little in hopes of taking it down to the normal range."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "After years of agonizing pain in my fingers and toes exacerbated by army mountain exposure and 'halo' training, along with cold water deep scuba work, I was finally diagnosed at 52 and at first put on beta blockers, which made things much worse with multiple crippling attacks daily. A second doctor put me on Adalat (nifedipine) and within 48 hours, the pain, the numbness, and the symptoms were gone. Now we are experiencing an early severe winter, some symptoms have returned but are still manageable on my standard dosage."

For High Blood Pressure "I took nifedipine 30 mg ER for 3 weeks. It did lower my blood pressure down to almost normal the first day I took it. After a couple of weeks, I began to have a high level of anxiety, as well as fluttering in my chest. I had trouble concentrating and felt dizzy, like I had a couple of alcoholic drinks, along with headaches and a general feeling of ill health. I talked to my doctor and stopped taking the medicine."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on nifedipine for 14 years, since the birth of my last child. I take it with atenolol 50 mg. I began 14 years ago on 60 mg once daily (extended release), then several years later reported instances of rapid heartbeats, so we reduced it to 30 mg, and that worked. It works well for hypertension. But, I began noticing water retention from the mid-calves down to my feet and was able to control it at times with natural remedies. The swelling would resolve overnight, but it started all over in the morning. It also seemed to be worse in humid weather. But, presently, nothing works, and they don’t even completely resolve overnight anymore. It’s calcium channel blockers. Edema gets worse over the years. I’m switching to a diuretic and coming completely off nifedipine. Bye-bye nifedipine, I won’t miss you!"

Nifedipine for Raynaud's Syndrome "Been on Adalat for the winter period. Started off good, but after 2 months, my left leg and ankle swelled and itched like crazy. Felt like dozens of bees stinging my leg. I knocked the Adalat off and it was OK. Doctor has now put me on Naftidrofuryl. Going to try, but looks as though there are other side effects with these tablets. But give them a go. Anyone had a reaction with these capsules."

For Raynaud's Syndrome "I get particularly bad pain, occasional numbness, and lack of motor control in my hands and feet due to quite severe Raynaud's. It makes many ordinary tasks, like getting out of the sea at the beach, incredibly difficult, dangerous, and painful. Thankfully, my introduction to this wonderful medication means that my attacks are much less frequent, and my partner has remarked at the noticeable sudden warmth in my usually cold as ice hands and feet. The only real drawback is that without a satisfactory amount of food, it collaborated with my naturally low blood pressure to make me feel faint, it does not mix well with alcohol, and it does not seem to prevent emotion-based attacks. Nonetheless, I can carry on living my life normally with it."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking metoprolol 100 mg and lisinopril with HCTZ 20 12.5 mg for 15 years. My weight was 235 lb, and the metoprolol was causing ED. So I switched to nifedipine. Withdrawing from the metoprolol caused tachycardia for at least 4 months, and now after exercising and weight loss, I have been taking only the nifedipine 30 mg. It has worked well for me, my BP is 120/80, and heart rate is constantly 60 to 80..."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on Procardia XL 60 mg once daily for a few weeks and hate the side effects. It started out with simple tingling in hands, hyperactive bowel sounds, and some constipation. Now I'm experiencing a fast heartbeat. Although it helps to stabilize my BP, it's definitely not worth the side effects, especially the palpitations, which get scary at times. I plan on stopping this med and switching to something else asap!"

For Hypertensive Emergency "I had a left basal ganglia stroke due to hypertension. My B/P was 220/125. I was 49 at the time. Upon discharge from the hospital and God’s hand, I was able to go home with minimal effects. I began taking Procardia ER following the stroke and had multiple trips to the ER with severe symptoms of heart palpitations, extreme dizziness, excessive weight gain and swelling, shooting electrical-like pains in my arms, joint pain, severe anxiety, random confusion, and a fuzzy feeling in the back of my head. I was told by the ER, just a headache... need to wait and see what the full effects of your stroke will be... I waited and lived like this, never knowing which day would be a horrible day of symptoms. Finally realized the first hour of getting up in the morning before I took the med, I felt normal, with symptoms starting about 45 minutes after taking it. I know I have no choice but to take some type of medication, but this medication has horrible side effects. I still have issues with B/P and even this med."

Nifedipine "Since using Adalat XL for 2 weeks, it first of all lowered the blood pressure significantly. Then, BP was out of control again. Started off with the Cipalat for the first 2 weeks given by the pharmacist, then decided since Adalat was prescribed to get that to see if it would work better. Then, feet started swelling immensely, diuretics helped nothing. Then went on like this for the rest of the month. Started to have shortness of breath, wheezing, pulse rate went up by 10 per minute, then started to have a very uncomfortable stomach, pain in the liver area, constipated and windy all over. Had pain in the groin and genitals, was irritable, sleepless, and depressed. Stopped the stuff, but it has been a week now and my feet are still swollen and still very windy, and my stomach is still blown up. How long will this take to subside?"

For High Blood Pressure "High blood pressure has been the bane of my existence for years. I take Clonidine, lisinopril, and recently back on valsartan, aka Diovan. Also added Procardia at the same time. BP drastically better for 4 weeks, but today I am light-headed, dizzy. So discouraging these lousy side effects! Will call Dr. tomorrow."

For High Blood Pressure "I take 30 mg Nifedipine, not a generic, it has been a side effect nightmare. Doc has had me on all BP meds. I’m sensitive to generic BP meds. My Doc states my BP is great. But, like others post, sex dysfunction, dreams, urinating all night 30 mins after taking the pill. Pee my whole body water contents out. Doc states not a water pill. It’s a water pill. Most posts list frequent urinating and dehydration, dark urine, and burning after peeing. Urologist states no issues, have had every urine test, culture, Mycoplasma, and STD. All negative. Nifedipine has more side effects than the solution. Docs think I’m crazy and told me I read too damn much. Advocate for yourself. Keep notes. Do whatever. I’ve had heart pounding and ER visits. No issues. Stay away from red meat and salt, especially before your nightly dose. Red meat and salty White Castle burger caused my first heart pounding on the first dose."
