"Because Flexeril made me really drowsy, I asked for an alternative and was given metaxalone. I found that it worked just as well without the drowsiness, and I was happy with it. I take it for when I throw my neck or back out. Then I started taking Viibryd (anti-depressant) two weeks ago. I checked here for interactions between it and metaxalone, and it said there was none, so when I needed it for my back this morning, I didn't hesitate to take one. And oh my goodness, I became super drowsy and pretty nauseous. I was also a bit unsteady on my feet. I had to climb in the bed and sleep it off."

Metaxalone "I have been on Skelaxin since 1994, and it is the only medication that has worked for me all these years. I was in a bad car wreck in '94, and then I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. When I had back surgery in '07 and I was without it for 3 months, I thought I would die. My surgeon put me back on it, and when he did, I started feeling better. It is a great medication for me."

Metaxalone "My pain management physician prescribed Skelaxin to help control severe spasms in my inner thighs down to and including my feet. My condition is 'failed back syndrome,' which resulted from 2X laminectomies at L4-L5. Prior to this, I had been using Zanaflex for two years but had side effects. I advised my doctor I needed a medicine that would help address my spasms without making me a zombie, and he prescribed Skelaxin. That was five years ago, and it saved my life. While I continue to have periodic spasms, I can eat my meals without my wife standing by in case I choked on my food. I would recommend Skelaxin to any individual who has muscle spasms."

Metaxalone "I had a very strange episode of a serious neck cramp. I was still able to move it, but if I did, I would get a constant dull to sharp pain. In fact, I could only sit in one particular position in order to subside the pain. I took some Skelaxin and a small dose of hydrocodone. It was without a doubt the best way to get rid of that pain. After about 45 minutes of taking it, I was feeling 90% without sleepiness or 'weirdness.' Highly recommended."

Metaxalone "I just took Skelaxin for the first time. While it relaxed just some of the pressure and pain from my chest due to fibromyalgia, it kept me up all night! I have not been able to fall asleep and was very restless all night."

Metaxalone "I was in a car accident, and my neck/shoulder was extremely painful. I don't like doctors, but after 3 weeks, I gave in and went to urgent care. I don't take medicines and have always done the alternative or holistic remedies. Not knowing anything about drugs, he gave me this script for Skelaxin with some samples to try before filling the script. I have only taken 1 tablet at night for the last 3 days. I noticed today I can move better. Everything that has been hurting feels better. What's more, there are no side effects. I just found out from my research tonight that this is a muscle relaxer. This stuff is a wonder drug. I feel so much better and don't feel like a zombie."

Metaxalone "I have tried everything out there, and for me, this is a drug that allows me to finally have a day without pain. I have had four cervical spine surgeries and two shoulder replacements. After the surgeries, I started having terrible muscle spasms around the neck/shoulder area. I pretty much gave up and just stayed home. I feel like a new person."

Metaxalone "Likewise. As others here have posted, I had an L-4/L-5 issue. It required a laminectomy in 1995. I also have no ability to control myself from overdoing dosage with medicines that have mind-altering effects. My doctor knew this and prescribed Skelaxin 'as needed' and a daily stretching regimen. 'As needed' has been very controllable, even for me (with my weakness for overuse). My pain is relieved and my mind stays clear."

Metaxalone "Very good! I was given samples to try instead of the usual generic Flexeril I usually take for muscle pain/spasm from severe degeneration in c-spine. This medicine works better and for me had no noticeable drowsiness. I can actually feel the release of spasm and loosening of joint pain, unlike the other which leaves me half conscious. Great stuff."

Metaxalone "I had fibromyalgia and muscle pain. With this med, it felt like my skin was on fire, and I couldn't sleep. I am now appealing to Medicare to keep my Soma, which has worked for me for at least 5 to 6 years now."

"I have always suffered from frequent headaches/migraines and was put on a preventative medication (Nortriptyline). This medication took care of regular headaches/migraines, but not tension-related ones. I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders and was originally prescribed Cyclobenzaprine for the tension along with (generic) Fioricet for the headaches themselves. This combo did not work, so my doctor replaced the Cyclobenzaprine with Metaxalone. This seems to have done the trick! When I feel the tension (without a headache), I take the Metaxalone with great results. If there is also a headache, the Metaxalone isn't enough, so I add a Fioricet. So far, this combo has allowed me to deal with headaches without having to go home and curl in a ball."

Metaxalone "I had to go to 800 mg of Metaxalone every 6 hours (directions from the inpatient pain specialist) while trying to recover from an emergency laminectomy L3 & L4, even though the regular directions say per 8 hours. It helped for a while, but now I am off of it temporarily so the spine specialists can figure out how much of the scoliosis is due to which spasms. The original injury caused total paralysis progressing over 6 weeks; I had no choice but to get the surgery. Long ago, I took Baclofen for the great pain and spasm relief. However, it caused major memory loss and other mental weirdness that caused people to think I was psychotic. Thank God for a wise doctor who knew about this rare side effect. If you take it, BE CAREFUL!"

"Was prescribed this medicine after weeks of crippling muscle spasms due to CRPS in the lower left leg, ankle, and foot. Very effective at 800 mg 3x daily. My neighbors are relieved I no longer awaken screaming in pain from the spasms, as am I. Very expensive, but worth it."

Metaxalone "No bad side effects, but minimal pain relief in lower back. I did notice lowered tension in shoulders, and it felt a lot like Flexaril. Flexaril really causes some bad side effects for me. Skelaxin had no side effects that I noticed, just not right for my condition. I'll give it credit for lowering general muscular tension, though."

Metaxalone "I have muscle problems in my upper and lower back from carrying drums in drumline in high school. My back hurts constantly every day (but a very tolerable and mild pain). But those of you with back problems know that you have good days and bad days. On the bad days, I started taking 800 mg Skelaxin, and it did absolutely nothing for my pain. It provided the same amount of relief that 2 or 3 Aleve provides."

Metaxalone "Treatment for Restless Legs Syndrome - I was recently diagnosed with RLS (a condition I thought to be psychosomatic until I got it - it's real!). I thought my wife and I were going to have to sleep in separate beds due to my tossing, turning, stretching, etc. to get relief. From the first dose of Skelaxin, the problem was eliminated. It's a wonder drug in my personal opinion."

Metaxalone "I was prescribed this after a very minor fender bender. I thought I was fine after the accident. But as I sat in my work chair, I turned to the side to get a printout, and I just got stuck! Stuck by the pain. After the chair situation, the day just got worse. I went to an urgent care where I got the prescription for this along with physical therapy. The conjunction of the two might have led to the speedy recovery! After some spring cleaning today, I knew I would need some Skelaxin. I know, seems like normal wear and tear for a homeowner. But when you are as inactive as I am, even an extra activity can be excruciating! Being allergic to ibuprofen also doesn't help. One Skelaxin later, and my leg and arm pains went away. Thank goodness."

"I've been taking 3-4 800 mg metaxalone tabs/day for about 5 years, and it takes about 1/2 hr to start feeling muscle pain relief, but it's not enough to take the pain away on its own. I need to take one or two 50 mg hydrocodone tabs with it to be effective."

Metaxalone "I had muscle spasms from sleeping on my stomach, and I couldn't function much at all. I told my doctor I needed something to relieve the pain, but something I could function on at work and while driving. She prescribed this, and I love it. The only thing I can tell from it whenever I take is relief of my spasms. No drowsiness or loopiness for me."

"Dr. wants me to switch from Percocet to metaxalone for my herniated and stenosis of cervical nerves. It doesn't help with the pain in my neck or arms. It also makes me dizzy, headachy, and I get an upset stomach."

Metaxalone "I take this medication for pelvic floor dysfunction. It works well, but does leave me a bit foggy. I try to only take one pill a day, but I definitely notice I'm not as sharp for the entire day after taking it. But I couldn't get through physical therapy without it."

Metaxalone "Episodic incidences of serious back spasms and pain due to having herniated discs of L4 and L5. Skelaxin relieves the spasms so I get back to somewhat normal in as short a time as possible without feeling drugged out and tired. It works so far as to what it was prescribed for."

Metaxalone "I found Skelaxin made me drowsy, but it also made the muscle spasms go away. I take it at night because of that, but I realize that I may be a special case because 800 mg of Motrin makes me sleepy as well."

Metaxalone "I just had back surgery for a ruptured disc three weeks ago, and my surgeon prescribed me Skelaxin to help with the remnants of muscle spasms I was still having. I was expecting it to knock me out, but I was actually able to study for an exam, and I was virtually pain- and spasm-free."

Metaxalone "I have used Skelaxin for over four years. I have found it quite useful for muscle spasms in my lower back. Unlike Flexeril, it doesn't make me sleepy during the daytime hours. My muscle spasms in the lower back are from a ruptured/bulging disc in the L4-L5 area. Without the Skelaxin, I am limited to very short time periods (5-10 minutes) of work in the yard and house. With Skelaxin, I can work 30-45 minutes before the lower back muscles begin to spasm. Skelaxin changed my life for the good."
