Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've gotten the Depo shot 4 weeks ago, a week before my period was to start. I didn't get my period, then I got it a week later. For 2 1/2 weeks, I've been bleeding with clots and have a headache non-stop. I've gotten the Depo shot before and was on it for years and never had problems. I have no idea what is wrong this time, but I know that I'm not getting it again. I feel horrible. I'm moody and irritated, I just can't take it."

For Amenorrhea "I was prescribed a 10 mg dose of medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to start my cycle as we try to conceive. The 10 days were kind of weird - lots of mood swings, cramps, and headaches. By day 4, it seemed to normalize, but then it did seem to make me feel lousy days 6-8ish again. I think by the end I had just gotten used to it. I woke up with my period on day 3 of not taking it. I will say, this is one of the worst periods I have ever had (remaining positive as I’m hopeful we will conceive this cycle!). Cramps are really bad, and the flow is the heaviest it has been in years. Just a heads up!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "Depo as a birth control, I guess it worked, everything else just went wrong! I only had one shot and don't think I will ever go back. Within two weeks of getting the injection, I got really bad headaches, depressed, abdominal cramps, flash bleeding, vomiting, unstable gait, memory loss, my face broke out, lost a bunch of weight, optic nerve damage. I went into SVT, and the list goes on. My whole life turned upside down. So yes, it may work for some people with no side effects, but it has damaged my life."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Depo stopped my period when I got my first shot. Almost a week later, I started spotting. I had been consistently spotting for about three weeks. Then I just started bleeding more. It wasn't bad, but it's progressively gotten heavier with large clots. Been over 8 days now. I've had headaches, acne, increased appetite, no sex drive, painful sex, fatigue, chills, abnormal bleeding. Worst decision I've ever made."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "So I get on this shot to control my bleeding since I was going on vacation, and I didn't want to be on my period while on vacation. I was so crazy to get on this shot because my tubes are tied, but my period was out of control, so I got on the shot. Why did I do this to myself? I took my first shot on 9/11/15, started bleeding 10/14/15. I kept bleeding, so I called the doctor to ask her what to do. She said to take 4 ibuprofen pills 3 times a day, and it should slow it down... Nope, never stopped, so I decided to get another shot... What was I thinking doing that? To this day, 12/12/15, I'm STILL BLEEDING SINCE 10/14/15. My attitude is through the roof, my marriage is suffering, I'm depressed 'cause I've gained so much weight, I have constant headaches, etc."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've only had 3 shots from Dec 2014 to my last one May 2015. After the first shot, my periods stopped completely, no pain, nothing. Also took care of my cyst problems. Used to get horribly large cysts that didn't erupt properly or in a timely manner. So that has been really nice, not having to go through that pain for weeks. Second shot, still going strong, no problems, just a little boob soreness at times. Third shot, here we go - weight gain, lots of hair loss, cramps with bad shooting pain, boob soreness/pain when bending over, brown spotting to heavy brown, which I have never in my life had (I'm 30) for weeks now. Headaches, mood swings - very emotional at times. Going to the doctor 7/22/15, I might just get off the shot. #Listen to your body."

For Amenorrhea "I lost my job because of this medicine, and I'm an epidemiologist in infectious disease medicine. It has been one hard year. Last August 2018, I took 10 mg for 5 days. The treatment was for 10 days, but I couldn't finish it because of the side effects. Landed two times at the ER. I had taken this before (age 20, 26-nothing happened, but at 29-ouch). Please be careful with hormones. I have no idea how this medicine is legal. Doctors don't ever discuss details, and then they wash their hands as if nothing happened. I warn every single female I see and have spoken to other scientists in my field about it. It's best to diet/exercise, do natural teas. Symptoms: anxiety, depression, tremors/interior buzzing 24/7, overheating body temperature, memory loss, headaches, cramping, lightheadedness, sleepiness, weakness, lack of concentration-I could go on. Save yourself from losing your job and your health."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "OMG! I was freaking out because after the 10 days of Provera 10 mg I took, I thought I would be okay, but after 2 days of taking the 10-day treatment, my period is like running water. Even when I was in my heavy days, I would never wake up to a stained bed, and this morning it was soaking. I don't have many clots, and the ones I have are small, but my period lasts for 7 days, and today is my 6th day and still going heavy. I hope it goes away by the 7th day. For sure, I'm going to stop taking any vitamins and any pills I take that could probably make my period even more heavy, just until this period goes away. Oh, it has many side effects, mine were pimples, headache, sleepiness, spotting, and shortness of breath. I really hope after this period my next ones are light, after all, it's like a period cleanser."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been bleeding for six months now! I was on the Depo for three years, then I went off of it. I am 35 lb heavier, and my eating habits and workouts never changed. I felt horrible all the time: headaches, back pain. As birth control, it sure works great."

Medroxyprogesterone for Amenorrhea "I'm 41 and was prescribed Provera because on August 23 of this month it will be 3 months since I haven't had my period! I have been reading about it like crazy! My test results came back normal! Can someone tell me that after the 10th day on the pill I will get my period! I have severe headaches and bloating!"

Medroxyprogesterone "I've been on Depo for a little over 6 months now. After my first shot, I had my period as regular, which worried me, but after that week, I've never had it again. I weigh about 115-120 pounds depending on how active I'm being. I have gone up a cup size in my breast, but I'm not complaining. My only concern is that in the future I might gain weight or I'll have weak bones. I'm planning on taking the shot for at least 7 or 8 more years, but I don't know what effects that will have on my body. So far though, it's a 10/10. No headaches, no more periods. I still want to have sex with my boyfriend more than ever, and I love the fact that I feel normal and like myself, and not moody and in pain. I love Depo, and I hope it works out for me in the long run."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I have been on DEPO PROVERA shot for about a year and a half. It works, of course. But I have recently decided to quit with the shots because of the horrible side effects. I have headaches every single day. I just want to sleep, and that's all I want to do. I'm a very active person, so that was easy to notice. Also, I get horrible shooting pains that are in my lower stomach and back."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I have been on Depo for just under a year. I am due for my next injection on the 22nd of December, and I will definitely not be going back for it. It did what it was supposed to do, prevented me from becoming pregnant, but the side effects were horrendous. I have had headaches every day, I have pains in my arms and my legs, extremely tired, and spotting all the time. I hope I am not the only person experiencing these side effects. I do not recommend this form of contraception to anyone!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Endometrial Hyperplasia, Prophylaxis "This drug Provera is a nightmare. I have a pacemaker, and it made my heart beat so fast, plus the chills to the point your teeth are chattering, the bloating, nausea, and sick headache. I told all this to my gyno, to which I got told just keep taking them. Medication should not make you sicker. I have stopped taking them and feel much better. I have tried three goes with them, the same thing happens. Now I'm getting a second opinion and to see if there's a natural way to go."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Literally, the worst decision I could have made as a new mom was getting the Depo-Provera injection. Who invented this stuff? Because while “possible spotting” sounds like a minor symptom, if I were to tell a man that all he had to do to prevent pregnancy in his partner was to get a shot every three months and then intermittently, or, even worse, continuously, bleed out his butt for months on end, while feeling depressed and enduring headaches, I guarantee you he would not sign up for that. I cannot stress enough to NOT use this form of birth control. Save yourself the trouble and just stop having sex altogether because that’s what you’ll most likely do anyway once you’re on it and bleeding black sludge uncontrollably. I cannot speak more lowly of this BC. I’m sorry if you’re reading this after having already taken it like it did."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I have been on this shot for almost 3 years now, starting out just to help with abdominal pain and now for use of birth control. I love that I have never had a period, let alone spotting, no cramps, nothing. Just recently, I have been having terrible headaches that make me nauseous. I have gained at least 15 lbs, which is very depressing, and sex drive... well, that's long gone (which seems very odd for a 20-year-old). Reading the reviews helped a lot, thank you!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I'm 17, and this is the first birth control I've been on. I had 150 mg of the Depo injection at my OBGYN office. I've only been on this injection for a few weeks, and side effects are already kicking in. The first day I even got it, I had abdominal pain, body aches, and piercing sensations around my body. My arms and legs have started to ache, I've had mood swings, a feeling of emptiness, increased feelings of depression, severe anxiety, and headaches. I was not told all of the side effects, and this injection was almost glorified by my doctor. She only told me I might retain water weight, lose hair (I haven't), and miss my periods. She never spoke of anything else I've been experiencing, as well as everyone else it seems. I don't recommend this injection, I'm planning on switching to a different method, like the Annovera ring, after research."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I have been on the Depo shot for almost 10 months now, and it hasn't been too bad. The only problems I've had are severe mood swings, nausea, and headaches daily. I'm a sick person anyway, so I'm not sure if I've gotten other side effects, but I do know those are from the Depo. My periods are now pretty much gone. My second shot, I had a period for about 2 months, but it wasn't heavy. I plan on getting off of it, though, after this shot wears off because I have been reading a lot of bad things about the shot. Severe mood swings, depression, anxiety, hair loss, osteoporosis, infertility, etc. I eventually want to get pregnant, but you can lose all options if you continue the shot for an extended period of time, and I don't want that to happen."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Worst decision I have ever made. I have fibroids, and I got the shot on 11/11/2019 to help me with the heavy periods problem, so my period was gone until 1/11/2020. I started bleeding, and it’s the worst nightmare. I have even been having painful cramps, heavy bleeding, horrible and continuous blood clots, headaches. Seriously, I’m praying every day for these symptoms, “side effects,” to go away. So I definitely do not recommend getting the shot, it’s been a nightmare for me."

Medroxyprogesterone "I literally received this shot a few days ago, and I can already feel a difference. I was on the pill with no problems but had to stop taking it because of the migraines that I get and the possible risk of taking the pill. My chest is very sore, I'm tired, getting random headaches, and sort of down (mood). I'm not as talkative, it's almost like my personality just disappeared overnight. I definitely don't feel like my usual self. I wanted to see some reviews to see how quickly others were feeling side effects and what they are experiencing. It seems like these symptoms have a possibility of going away... not sure how long I want to wait, even though I still have a minimum of three more months."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "It is effective. However, the weight gain of 30 lbs, now I need to lose 60 lbs. The headaches, dizziness, and tiredness. Feeling hungry constantly and occasional numbness in my hands and feet. I am thinking of trying Implanon, but the reviews don't look so great. Would prefer getting my tubes tied, as we have a nice-sized family. I have been on it for 13 months since my youngest was born, and I hate that I eat and feel pregnant even though I am not."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I am 18 years old, and I've been on this since I was 15, two months before my sixteenth birthday. I have done loads of research on this shot, and after taking it this long and reading everyone's complaints, I have reached a final conclusion that this shot has deteriorated my health tremendously. I have always had problems with feeling depressed, but ever since I got on this shot, I've been feeling so horribly suicidal and anxious, my mood has been affected so badly too. I am always stressed or not really sure about what or how I feel. I have really bad abdominal pain, and not to mention the worst headaches and dizziness of my life. I am constantly dizzy and fatigued, and I gained lots of weight. It prevents pregnancy, yes, but not worth it."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I highly recommend the Depo-Provera shot (especially if you would like to gain some weight)! I decided to take the Depo shot because I kept forgetting to take the pill (this later led to a pregnancy which was followed by a miscarriage because of stress from the situation I was in). I didn't know anything about the Depo-Provera shot and was never given any kind of pamphlet on it. I was at 105 lbs when I first started the shot. Now I'm at 132 lbs. I've been on the shot for 2 1/2 months. My anxiety is worse (I'm on medicines for anxiety), I've had throbbing headaches (I also have medicine for this), and my periods are super weird. I'll barely bleed most of the time I go to the bathroom. It's almost like I don't have a period, but the cramps come and go. So far, it's doing its job and preventing pregnancy. However, my sister has friends who gained 100+ pounds being on this shot, so I was suggested to keep the late-night snacks to a minimum, but I choose not to and it's not really affected me."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "My first shot of Depo was great, no mood swings or any other side effects other than some very light spotting. Happy with my first shot, I got a 2nd, but it didn't turn out as the first shot did. I'm happy because there's no mood swings or really any mental side effects, which is why I switched from the pill. However, I was told my period would completely go away or just be light spotting, but for some reason I have now been having a normal/heavy period for over a month now, which is concerning. I've also been experiencing a lot of headaches and cramps that can get so bad they'll sometimes wake me up from dead sleep. I'll be going to the doctor soon to get off of this, blood loss is not fun :c don't think this is super common though."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I got a total of 3 Depo shots. So in a few weeks, I'm due for my 4th, and I decided to not take it. First of all, YES headaches, depression. I wouldn't say mood swings because I only was sad/upset/angry/tired, never wanted sex, always complaining about something. I was very unhappy for the past year and just NOW realized that the hormone shot was the reason. Did not help me gain weight like I wished (maybe a couple of lbs). Very bad abdominal pain, yes, period for the whole first month. I would not recommend it. Moms, stay away, this makes you a ZOMBIE!"
