"I recently went through an experience that triggered my anxiety. I have always had anxiety, social, loud noises, smaller sleeping quarters, etc. My sleep regimen now consists of taking 15 mg of Remeron and 1 mg of lorazepam. I know the lorazepam is very addictive, but I tried to go for 4 days without it, and my anxiety came back pretty high, so I'm back on it. I talked to someone else who has bad anxiety and trouble sleeping, and they take Xanax at night. It's really difficult for me to have to take such a powerful drug at night, but at this time, with all the other stressors in life-the election, COVID-I don't have much of a choice. I hope to find a better way to relax in the upcoming months and slowly taper off of it or switch to a different medication. If you do decide to stop taking this drug and have anxiety, you will need a plan to do so. There are methods. Google Benzo.org.uk for the withdrawal schedule."

Lorazepam "Ativan can be a two-edged sword. I have a prescription for 0.5 mg to be used as needed for anxiety and/or sleep. It works really well for both. I just have to be careful not to use it too often (it's tempting) because there are uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. I want to have it on hand because when I have a days-long anxiety episode, it's the only thing that helps calm me down. However, my doctor told me that regular, long-term use of Ativan can increase the risk for Alzheimer's. Articles I've read on this confirm his warning. That's a good enough incentive for me to use it sparingly. 7/10 stars for Ativan due to its helpfulness, but with accompanying risks."

"This is my second night. My Dr. prescribed me 1 mg, but it didn't seem to work. So then he said to increase to 2 mg. I had a good night's sleep on the 1st night at 2 mg. But on the second night, after 2 pills of 1 mg, I am still wide awake."

"About 20 years ago, I caught a debilitating lung illness that hung on for months. My sleep was constantly interrupted by coughing fits. I grew so weak I could hardly get out of bed. They sent me to specialists, to no avail. Four months in, I took a 0.5 mg tablet of lorazepam (L) before bed. I slept 14 hours and woke feeling stunningly improved. The next night, I took another tab before bed. I woke feeling nearly recovered. Lorazepam (L) gave me the sleep my body so desperately needed to heal. Since that time, when I'm ill and not sleeping well (which isn't often), I take 0.5 mg before bed for good restorative sleep. This seems to promote healing. About a month ago, I broke a rib. It was so painful when lying down, I barely slept for nine days. My doctor retired, so I asked my new doctor for a few lorazepam so I could sleep and heal. He told me 'new regulations did not allow' him to prescribe L 'off label' as a sleep aid. He recommended I take Tylenol."

"It did not help me sleep, so I took 1 Ambien at 10 pm, and if I was lucky, I fell asleep around 4 am, after many trips to the refrigerator. I'm also on prednisone 5 mg and Enviros as an antirejection drug. Nothing helps me sleep."

"I was prescribed Lorazepam about 5 years ago for anxiety and panic disorders that just started out of the blue - well, the panic attack did - then the anxiety came after. It was so frightening! My doctor put me on three 1 mg tabs three times a day to start with... and I sure needed them. I did have this problem for a couple of months then. Not being one who likes taking meds and through other counseling help recommended by the doctor, I was able to go between 1-3 a day till I eventually got to mostly 1 mg at night. I do not believe a 1 mg taken at a reasonable hour of night can cause you to keep falling asleep during the day, however, I could be totally wrong. It helps greatly with sleeping as does half a tab also, which I’m down to on occasions only now. I did wean myself from one to three-quarters to half to one-quarter over a couple of weeks just to be sensible, but I can't say they're more addictive, and I don't believe they're harder on the body than I've seen with antidepressants with people. But my caution here is, of course, you do have to use it along with other helps so you're not dependent on high amounts. I was having a prescription every so often to have on hand and/or so in the end to help me wind down and sleep, now I'm fine and probably won't get any more! I was told doctors don't recommend these so quickly as they don't get the incentives from the drug company for prescribing them, as they do with the newer drugs."

"I've been taking 2.5 mg most nights for a week. They're pink with MP61 on the back, made by a Genesis manufacturer, I think based in Romania or Turkey. I must say I'm sleeping, but I wake up every 2-3 hours, but it's better than nothing, and I do feel fresh when I get up."

"I was on lorazepam for at least 10 years for restless leg syndrome and was told it is a dangerous drug. I stopped cold turkey. After 4 days, I was in very bad shape. Immediately, I called my primary care doctor who put me on clonazepam, mirtazapine, ropinirole, and hydroxyzine. That was the start of many other drugs for sleep, anxiety, and I could go on and on. That was the last 8 months, I went through hives, rashes, no sleep, etc. I have lost all my body muscle, am down to 106 lbs, lost my hair, and my gums are now receding. I am now very depressed and angry, what could be worse than this? My doctor just gave me Zoloft 6 days ago and I had a horrible effect on me, my face was pulsating all night, and my mouth was so very dry. When will this end? I am 78 and firmly believe they never should have taken me off of lorazepam. I was healthy, happy, not taking medications except for lorazepam. I am miserable and see no end in this except for the doctors to give me more medication. I was on 6 mg for a long time."

"I've had insomnia for about 6 years now (ever since I started working shifts). At first, I got zolpidem, but it gave me blackouts. Apparently, I did a lot of stuff while using zolpidem, but sleeping wasn't one of them. I went to a sleep lab, and they gave me a sleep schedule. This didn't work. I was tired all day and still unable to sleep. About 5 years ago, I started using lormetazepam 2 mg. At first, 2 mg worked fine, but 5 years later, I have increased my dose to enormous, and I'm still not able to sleep. Does anyone else have this same experience with long-term use of lormetazepam? I guess I have developed tolerance. Any ideas on how to finally get some sleep?"

"I have been taking lorazepam for many years. I started with the highest dose. My doctor began to lower it until I was taking just half of 0.5 mg. I am afraid, am I going to have problems? But I have been wishing to leave it for a long time. Am I going to have withdrawal? Please let me know."

"Have been taking .5 mg for a few years. Used to wake up at 1 or 2 a.m. with all the lights on, so to speak. Am a stem cell recipient because of leukemia. Originally blamed it all on other prescription drugs I was on, especially immunosuppressants. But as I have been slowly removed from all these other meds, I still was experiencing middle-of-night sleeplessness. Have occasionally tried a full 1 mg pill but saw no difference. The .5 mg dose does just fine for me. Remember, in most states it is considered a controlled substance, so DO NOT drive until 8 hours after using."

"I am 51, 4 years past menopause with chronic migraines. I have always had trouble sleeping and/or staying asleep. I also wake up with a sore back and shoulders. Tried 0.5 mg of lorazepam and slept all night, woke up refreshed with no soreness and had no migraine. Thought it was a fluke. A few days later, tried again with the same result. Now I sleep great and the fact that it helped with soreness and migraines was a bonus! If you have trouble with addiction, this might not be the appropriate medication."

"In 2004, I was leaving work and had my first severe panic attack (although I didn’t know it was that at the time). I was fortunate that my ER nurse immediately recognized what I was experiencing and gave me IV Ativan (lorazepam). My PC physician later prescribed Klonopin (clonazepam). It helped, but after taking it for 18 years, its effectiveness wore off. About 15 months ago, I started having “sleep anxiety” and would go four days, at times, with not even a second of sleep. I saw a psychiatrist, who switched me to Ativan, a faster-acting benzodiazepine, and I’ve been taking that for the past 15 months. It helps me with sleep-onset latency, most of the time, but as we tried to taper me off it, I experienced severe withdrawal (rebound insomnia and debilitating anxiety). Ativan might be ideal for short-term or occasional use, but I don’t recommend taking it every day."

Lorazepam "1 mg twice a day has resulted in a reduction of manic behavior, but regular sleep still eludes me. I'm averaging 3-4 hrs/night on Ativan vs. 1-2 prior to this prescription. Overall, the medication has proven effective in all ways except the ability to sleep adequately."

"Have used this for insomnia and also anxiety for about 3 years now. I have a reasonable doctor who recognized that being a sole caretaker to my parents, in their 90s, is exhausting and I need to sleep but couldn't because of excessive worrying. He first thought of sleeping pills, but I said I needed to be alert enough to wake up in case my peeps needed me. Hence, the lorazepam. Relaxes me enough to sleep, but I can hear and wake if I am called. My prior clinic-where I never saw a doctor, only assistants-would not prescribe me any benzos because they think everyone is an addict. They suggested antidepressants, which is idiotic because they do NOT work in the same gentle manner as the benzodiazepines. Plus, I wasn't depressed. I take one 1mg lorazepam a day, although at times of great distress, like when there was a death in the family, I took the dosage as it is prescribed, which is 3 times a day as needed. Now I'm reducing the dosage again. I have no side effects from it."

"This did nothing for me and my insomnia. It worked great the first two days I took it. It's great for stressful situations when you feel like you are going to have a panic attack, but for me and insomnia, it didn't do anything."

"Worked for years on insomnia, but tolerance kicked in, and the suffering that followed I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Take maybe once or twice a week. If you have a weak mind like me, it will work, but you will suffer afterwards."

"My pharmacy switched to this brand lorazepam, and I started taking it and can no longer sleep. Lorazepam was supposed to be for my insomnia, but this generic of it was horrible. It did not make me tired, it did not turn my thoughts off, it was basically useless, and I had to keep taking it for 60 days because my pharmacy couldn't order the other brand. I don't know how to check this out, but I believe it has too many fillers in it that counteract the medicine. I just got more anxious because I couldn't sleep."

"I was prescribed lorazepam for anxiety attacks and sleep. The first five pills I had lasted a year. After I took one pill, I fell asleep within one hour and woke up feeling refreshed. I find myself using it once a month now. I really think it's a great short-term fix when paired with a long-term plan (citalopram)."

"I have bad anxiety and am severely depressed and have bad insomnia. Doctor prescribed me Ativan. I took one at night to help me sleep. It helped me sleep all night. Woke up, had a coffee, then promptly fell asleep again, had lunch at 11:30, was up for an hour and a half. I then promptly fell asleep again the whole afternoon. That is the one and only time I took one. I told my GP I was prescribed this and told him I am not taking any more as all I do is sleep. I do not know what is worse, insomnia or sleeping all the time. He then told me to keep taking it, what did he not understand? So I am not taking it anymore and will just deal with it on my own with no pills."

"It’s been about two weeks since I have been taking lorazepam 2 mg tablets. I sleep so well, sometimes I will even sleep till noon! And even when I just woke up, I will feel sleepy again. Is it good? Sometimes during nighttime, I can see things that are not there, like hallucinations… not always. I’m just afraid one day I might not wake up!"

"I made an appointment with my doctor for frequent anxiety episodes that would last for days. He prescribed lorazepam .5 mg to be used as needed. It works great for calming me down, but lately I've been using one-half tablet (.25 mg) just about every night for when I wake up at 1:30 am and can't get back to sleep. It just works. One benefit of using it during the night is that it seems to help prevent those days-long bouts with anxiety. Side effects seem non-existent except for the 'calm' that I'm left with in the morning. However, from what I've read, I'm concerned that it will eventually lose its effectiveness. Not sure what I'll do then. I rate it at 9 since it has potential for dependency and possible loss of effectiveness with long-term use."

Lorazepam "It was given to me in the hospital to aid in sleeping. I woke up in another hospital bed down the hall. It was empty, and I was trying to get in that bed. I had a heart monitor on, but I had moved out of my room and was half-dressed, wandering the halls until I came to the nurse station. Why didn't someone know I was having an issue because of my disconnected heart monitor? They put me back in bed and seemed upset at me. They never explained. I just took it once. I was awake but couldn't see or know what had happened or was about to happen. Could have walked off a building."

"I caught COVID in October. Been having a bad time with the long effects. Since then, I have been suffering from insomnia where some nights I can't even get to sleep. If I do, it's only for a couple of hours. Even when I get up the next day, I am still very tired but still cannot sleep. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for more than 30 years. The doctor has prescribed me lorazepam. Took half a tablet the first night, great sleep. The next few nights did the same and cannot sleep, affecting my work. Been signed off just now, too tired to do anything. Has anybody got any advice?"

Lorazepam "This didn't help my insomnia at all. If anything, it makes my mind think even more. I have even more trouble sleeping than when I was on Elavil 25 mg or Zopiclone 7.5 mg. It's frustrating since I'm only 20 years old, and I've been suffering from insomnia for 2 and a half years now."
