For Underactive Thyroid "After the birth of my twins 32 years ago, I was diagnosed with postpartum hypothyroidism. Started on 88 mcg, and with monthly labs, I found myself within a year at 200 mcg. My grandmother had lupus, and looking back, I think I had some sort of an autoimmune disorder since childhood. Two of my children also have autoimmune disorders, one with Hashimoto's and the other with psoriatic rheumatoid arthritis, and they both have PCOS and the anxiety disorders that go along with this lovely disease. Originally, I was given levothyroxine, but my levels were just not normal, so I was given Synthroid, and it had to be dispensed as written by the pharmacy. I still have symptoms that sometimes feel debilitating. I really feel that Synthroid has obviously helped me, but 32 years on this and still symptomatic and deficient in vitamins, I think it's time that an endocrinologist would allow me to become one of their patients! Autoimmune disorders are no fun!"

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Thyroid was removed 3 years ago due to Hashimoto and nodule hyperplasia. Surgery discovered a substernal thyroid. Prior to surgery and attempts to reduce goiter with Synthroid, felt terrible every day. Multiple diagnoses due to muscle pain, fatigue, insomnia, stomach upset, rapid heartbeat, irrational blood pressure. Take Synthroid every morning 1 hour prior to breakfast. Feel great. No negative side effects. All above symptoms are gone. Age 59!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I’ve been on this medication since I was 7, and I am now 32. I never had any issues that I can relate back to Synthroid. But I’m curious if my anxiety and panic disorder are related to this, because I have had it since around the same time I started this med and suffered my whole life. I also recently started having chronic dizziness that is pretty much 24/7 for the last 5 years. It’s probably not related, but I’m curious if anyone else feels the same."

For Hashimoto's disease "I have been on Synthroid and the generic for eleven years. If you ever suffered from the effects of thyroid disease, you probably know the depression and fatigue that I felt 11 years ago. I only noticed two side effects. One was an interaction with birth control, the other was my hair wouldn't perm well anymore (small price to pay)."

For Hashimoto's disease "43-year-old female, 5'7", 76 kg. I used to be 56 kg, and in a matter of 2 years, I reached 80 kg after quitting smoking. I also had a plethora of other problems, among which were lethargy, extreme fatigue, and depression. My doc discovered by accident my TSH was 10, plus huge antibody values. Started me at 50 mcg Synthroid and I went up from there. I am now at 175 mcg, a huge dose, and feel fantastic. My blood values are low, TSH, upper limit T4. I kind of talked my doc into increasing the dose, as his choice was 125 mcg and I felt that was too low. I finally have the energy to go to the gym. I feel like my old self. I LOVE Synthroid and I hope he won't lower it for me."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had a thyroidectomy, and I'm on Synthroid. This medicine just doesn't work like they told me it would. It doesn't work! My nails are falling off and ripping more easily. My hair, which was always so beautiful and long, is looking like a dollar store mop. It has breakage really bad, and it's so thin and just yucky. Also, gained 70 pounds."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had a goiter in my teens that was treated with radioactive iodine. I've been on Synthroid for almost ten years, having trouble finding the right dose. I was on 125 mcg for a few years, but my TSH jumped around a lot. Last time I checked, it was around 30, so not good. I decided to try 150 mcg. At first, I had a bit of insomnia, but otherwise, I felt great. Going to find out on Saturday if it's been working as good as I thought. I ran out 3 days ago, and I've already gained a bit of weight (looks like I'm bloated) and woke up this morning depressed. Oh well, I get more on Saturday."

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been taking Synthroid for almost two years. My doctor told me that I might not be able to conceive, but I am 15 weeks pregnant. My current doctor told me to take this medicine religiously because this is keeping me pregnant."

For Hashimoto's disease "Like many, I was doing amazing on Nature Throid until about 2017, and since then I have bounced from no medication and from Tirosint and Synthroid. Synthroid has been the worst decision of my life! I feel so sad and depressed, which probably has to do with a 40 lb weight gain after switching to synthetic meds. I truly wished this worked for me!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been taking this for 6 months now. Before these medicines, I had problems gaining weight. Now that I am on this medicine, I can't stop eating. I have gained 20 lbs. When I stop taking these medicines, I am not hungry all the time. I also have high blood pressure. Not sure if the combination of the medicines has anything to do with the weight gain."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was taking Levothyroid 75 mcg. Lost 15 pounds, stomach pain, unable to eat, shaky, unable to think or exercise. Also have dark, stone-hard stools. Will see my endocrinologist next week. When in my 30s, took Synthroid for 16 years with no problems, then all went as above. Took Levothyroid by Forest for 4 years with no problems until it was taken off the market about 2 years ago."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "After my thyroid surgery, I was put on Synthroid. I continued to get worse until I was nearly totally bedridden. I did some research, and after several months, found a doctor who prescribed medications other than Synthroid. I started taking a natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) medicine. Within two weeks, I woke up and felt like getting out of bed. I continued to improve, however, my strength never came back. I am totally confined to a wheelchair now."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I had my thyroid out in Feb. of 2016. I was put on 125 mg of generic Synthroid. My blood sugar was dropping below 50 on a daily basis. I looked the problem up on the internet and found that people had the same problem and advocated that I take the brand-name drug to correct the problem. For the past two months, I have been on the name brand, and I seem to be leveling out in the high 60s with my sugar, which is okay. I am stuck paying the extra charge not covered by my insurance, roughly $32 per month for 30 pills. Have had no weight gain yet, which I am very happy about. I am going to ask my doctor at the end of this month to increase my dosage to bring my sugar up into the 80s or even 90s where it belongs."

For Hashimoto's disease "I have been on Synthroid for a while, and when I started having stomach issues, I could no longer tolerate pills. My endo doc changed me from Synthroid to Levoxyl, and I couldn't tolerate that either. Now I'm on injectable, what a relief to know I have options!"

For Underactive Thyroid "I have been taking random dosages of levothyroxine for 1 year now, and my endocrinologist and I still haven’t found my perfect dose. I switched over to Synthroid at 125 MCG, and I’ve been on it for about 2 weeks now. I know it takes about 4-6 weeks to hit its peak. But I am just so impatient and tired of it not being my proper dose. I’m 27 years old, and my left eyebrow hairs started to turn white, and my bottom lashes are all white, and now my top lashes are starting to turn white too. It’s very concerning. I was told it’s from my autoimmune disorder. Is anyone else going through this?"

For Underactive Thyroid "OK, I'm still on Synthroid, and my doctor will not listen to me. He told me to see an OB/GYN, and they made me an appointment, but I have to wait another two weeks, and my menstruation has gone crazy. I've been bleeding since April 15. I stopped for 2 days, and it started again. All my tests say I'm normal. I went to the ER, and they told me everything was fine! I'm so frustrated with this. No one will listen to me!! It takes 4-6 weeks to kick in. I started this medicine in November, I've had my dosage changed 3 times. This last time, I went from .75 to .88, and exactly 6 weeks and one day my menstruation started early. I thought that was just a slight bump, but now it's out of control! I know my own body, I know it's this medicine. I'm sensitive to medications."

For Hashimoto's disease "Started Synthroid 50 mcgs on August 25th, 2020. I was 6’3" at 266 lbs. It is now October 28th, 2020, and I have lost 49 pounds. My weight is 217 lb. If you have Hashimoto's disease, I highly recommend the paleo or AIP diet. All I did was diet and take my meds every day at 9 a.m. on an empty stomach with water. I would then wait until 12 before I would eat lunch to make sure all of the meds absorbed. My antibody count is still unreadable, so I have to up my dose to 75 mcgs now. Needless to say, this medicine seems to do its job. But your diet is nearly as important."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Synthroid seems to work well, but still working to get to the correct dosage. Currently, my dose is too high and I see my doctor next week to adjust. Feel fine, but have daily armpit and back sweat. Will be really glad when that stops as it's difficult to work at client sites when your shirt is soaked."

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been on both, and yes, you have to see a doctor who specializes in this disorder. You also have to take it one hour before you eat both Levo and Synthroid because I feel different. I've done it taking after I ate, and it didn't work, and then I followed the doctor's orders to take it one hour before breakfast. I'm on 75 mcg, and my weight is doing great, my levels are normal if I keep on the medicine and take it like my doctor said to take it. I go to many different specialists because I have many medical problems, and I'm only 30, but this thyroid thing started after I had my daughter. So no, do not take it at night after meals because your body will not absorb the medicine. Correct, the medicine needs to be taken with a full glass of water and no food so it can work through."

For Myxedema Coma "I'm 54 years old and have had Graves' disease since I was 21, after the birth of my first child. At that time, 9/10 of my thyroid was removed due to a nodular goiter. For about 20 years, I was fine without any medication. About 15 years ago, I began Synthroid at 25 mcg and am now up to 75 mcg. I feel well. However, I am extremely careful about my health in general - take many supplements, no other drugs, and eat a very healthy diet. I did HRT for about 10 years and stopped this year. Still feeling fine. I'm sure my diet and lifestyle have a lot to do with that. I think you should get second and third opinions from endocrinologists if your concerns aren't being taken seriously by your GP."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I was 1st diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism. The doctor said it wasn't bad to just watch it. After a couple of years, it got worse - I saw another doctor, and he did 6 biopsies - found that I had papillary cancer. Following month, I had my thyroid and 2 parathyroids removed. The surgeon put me on 100 mcg of generic Synthroid - seemed to be doing okay until I had the RAI, twice, then everything messed up. I was still having hair loss, ears ringing, teeth getting bad, bathroom habits were never the same, cramps, affected my salivary glands permanently, so I'm dry all the time. Plus, I've put on 25 lbs. I eat, I don't eat, it doesn't matter, the weight will not come off. The endocrinologist changed my dosage to 112 mcg, and I seemed to be doing better. I am back to 100 mcg with previous symptoms."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "Had my thyroid removed at age 9 (cancer) 38 years ago. Been on Synthroid ever since then. My dosage has changed over the years. I am now on 150 mg (blue tablets). I have been getting an all-over skin rash and itching for the last 4 months. After numerous tests, my doctor told me it may be the dye in the blue 150 mg tablets. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I just switched today to take the 50 mg (white tablets with no dye) three times a day. I am hoping this was the problem."

For Underactive Thyroid "I've been on levothyroxine for a year now, and my life is so much better. When I graduated college at 21 and started working full-time, I was suddenly tired. All the time. Basic tasks made me exhausted. I always thought it was depression and tried counseling for years. I finally went to the doctor when I was 25 to get antidepressants, and she made me get bloodwork done. I had an atrophied thyroid! After about six weeks on levo, I had so much energy and even lost 10 pounds! Then it stopped working, so we had to adjust the dosage. I haven't had any long-term weight loss, unfortunately, but my energy is back up, and I wake up refreshed, which is exactly what I needed."

For Hypothyroidism, After Thyroid Removal "I have had my thyroid removed one year ago. Medication causes blurred vision. Some weight gain, nothing significant that can't be worked off with exercise. But, even though I have this problem, it's better than previous symptoms: heart palpitations, sweating, losing 20 lbs in less than a month without trying."
