For Birth Control "After having the Skyla inserted, I almost passed out. It was very painful, and my clothes were soaked from sweat, but my doctor didn't give me anything to ease the pain. I cramped really bad for two weeks and then was fine. My period after the Skyla was inserted lasted 32 days long, but I haven't had one since (4 months with the Skyla inserted). I'm feeling better than ever. Some acne, but any kind of birth control will cause that. My appetite increased, but I allowed it, so I can't blame it on the Skyla. Hoping for no babies and no periods for the next 3 years."

For Birth Control "Many of the reviews are terrifying, and because of that, I went into my appointment very nervous. I watched cat videos while waiting for the doctor to come in to help my stressing. (It worked.) So what it was like: the majority of the procedure felt just like I was getting a Pap smear. I tend to be sensitive to the speculum, so I had some discomfort with that. Not until the doctor said, 'Okay, you're going to feel some pressure,' did I feel a strong sharp pain. It was gone as quickly as it happened, just made me gasp a bit. Then one more sensation, like that of the actual placement, and it was over. The cramps for the hour afterward were very uncomfortable. Home with ibuprofen and I feel good with slight cramping. Remember to breathe!"

For Birth Control "I’m 19, and 115 lbs. Got Skyla in February 2018, was super painful getting put in, but the pain lasted only about 30 minutes. Everything was great for the first 4 months, no period cycle, just slight spotting, no pain... starting in June, I began noticing my (almost always perfect) skin start to develop very large bumps. It was cystic acne. It snowballed from there, my skin only got worse. My face was producing an abnormal amount of oil, and the acne never seemed to let up. I tried many different acne solutions and changed my diet to more clean eating, but nothing seemed to help. I just ignored it and thought maybe college is causing stress breakouts and it eventually will go away. I was wrong. In August, I started experiencing severe cramping in my lower stomach. It came about every 5-10 minutes and was nearly every day until I decided to get Skyla taken out, which was on Oct. 5. The cramps immediately stopped. My acne is still bad, considering it’s only been a couple of days."

For Birth Control "I had a bad experience with the insertion of Skyla. I went there by myself and almost passed out at my OBGYN once I was about to leave. I was in horrible (cramping) pain for about 3-4 hours after. There are a lot of people that don't experience it that badly, but this was just my personal experience. I do love how I never have to remember to take a pill every day. With going back to school and working full time, it's hard to remember anything. My periods are normally pretty light but seem to last longer now, 5-6 days. Since the insertion, I have experienced more headaches and sometimes feel lightheaded and dizzy. I have also had significant weight gain, 15 lbs since I got it. No diet change, and I always feel bloated."

For Birth Control "I just had my Skyla inserted this morning, so I cannot say much about the effectiveness, but I can share my opinion. Before talking with my OBGYN about getting an IUD, I did my research, and I highly recommend doing your research! I compared different brands of IUDs, and I decided Skyla was the right fit for me. I am 19 years old, never have had children, and I am in a monogamous relationship. There definitely was pain and pressure, and I may have cried out a little, but nothing you cannot handle! The whole prep and insertion took no more than 5 minutes, and I was fine to drive home. The benefits of Skyla outweigh the minor pain you will feel. But, keep in mind everyone's body is different! I hope this helped you in your decision. :)"

For Birth Control "Got Skyla inserted on 7/27/18. Wow, that was painful. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain, and I was prescribed something to soften my cervix, but it still hurt like anything! The pain lasted until 5 seconds after it was inserted, and I was fine. Minor cramping and spotting. I have been spotting off and on since, but I expected that. Sometimes I get contraction-like cramps, but nothing a little ibuprofen can't fix. So far, I like it a lot. I forget I have it most of the time. My bf felt it the first time we were intimate after insertion, but hasn't since. Overall, I think Skyla is and will be a good fit for me! We will see in the next few months!"

For Birth Control "I had Skyla in for about a year. Beware if you have never had a child before-the insertion will be painful as they have to dilate your cervix. I never had any trouble with Skyla other than painful cramps during my period. They actually almost felt like contractions. My periods were very light-but never disappeared. I ended up removing it a little over a year into having it because my husband said he could feel it and it was painful. Removal was a breeze. My OBGYN said to 'cough,' and it was out! No dilation necessary!"

For Birth Control "I've recently gotten the Skyla inserted. It's easier than trying to remember the pill every day. However, I have been in constant pain since it was inserted, and I have been spotting/bleeding for weeks. It is quite uncomfortable, and the pain/bleeding gets worse after sex. It's bad enough that I cannot stand or walk at times because of the discomfort."

For Birth Control "I'm 21 with no kids. I got the Skyla put in today after reading these scary reviews and... yeah, it hurts, I won't lie to you. Y'all... I wanted to bite my gyno's head off, but true enough, it only lasted like 30 seconds tops. It's super quick, I went into the Dr. office at like 3 pm and was in my car headed home at 3:15 pm. Lol, I didn't bleed during the process, but around 8 pm I started spotting, and the pain is gone. I'll be back soon to update everything! :)"

For Birth Control "Please don't let these reviews scare you! I read 2 hours' worth of these horror stories before I got mine, and I almost decided not to get it. I had my Skyla inserted 2 days ago. I'm 19 and have never had kids. My doctor and nurses were very helpful with the process and answered about 1,000 questions that I had going into this. The actual insertion is not bad. I've had very bad cramps since I started my period, so maybe that's why I could handle it. It almost feels like you're getting a bad cramp and you have to poop at the same time, but it goes away in under a minute. After the insertion, I felt completely fine. I was scheduled to work that night, and other than being slightly uncomfortable, there was no serious pain. I've yet to have spotting."

For Birth Control "I am 18, and have never been pregnant. I have a very small cervix and had issues with the initial insertion. I originally went in to get the Mirena, but after 10 minutes of pushing and pulling, it didn't go in, so I opted for the Skyla. I had a lot of pain the day of and the two days following, but now that I have had it for a while, I love it. My boyfriend and I have had sex I'm sure upwards of one hundred times unprotected, and I haven't gotten pregnant yet. I haven't had a period since the month of and I've had it for 9 months now. Totally recommend it."

For Birth Control "I rate this a 5 because I'm not sure what else to rate it. I've had it for 2 years now. I've tried the pills and the patch and hated both! I have one problem with Skyla, and it's the cramps. I started Skyla at almost 18 years old. Before that, my cramps were a breeze. There were pains, but they were tolerable. After starting Skyla, my cramps were horrible. I'd be on the floor crying because the pain was so intense! No medicine even slightly eased the pain. I don't know if this is just because it was just inserted wrong or if it's just how my body reacted. But I know when I got it inserted, it hurt very badly and continued to hurt for 2-3 days, while I was told it would only hurt for a couple of hours. If you get Skyla, I hope your experience is better than mine!"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about a month ago, and so far, nothing crazy has happened. I have almost zero pain tolerance, so the insertion sucked. It was a lot of pressure, but pretty bearable up until he went to measure my cervix and was actually inserting the Skyla. I also haven't had any kids, so that also plays a factor. I had some pretty bad cramps the day of and the day after, but nothing after that. The only real complaint I have about it is the nonstop bleeding and spotting. It went on for about 3 weeks and finally stopped a few days ago. It's nice to not have to worry about taking a pill every day or going to get a shot every 3 months. If you're considering it, go talk to your OBGYN about your options and DO NOT go just off of what others say!"

For Birth Control "I got my IUD put in in March of 2015 after over a year of being on the depo shots. The initial insertion was pretty painful, but I was able to drive home and take some aspirin and lay around while the pain subsided after a few hours. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I wanted to try something that I could feel more like myself and have the least amount of side effects on. This has really been working out really great. I no longer have random pain that I used to get, and the only negative that I have noticed is a lack of sex drive since getting it inserted, but I am going to the doctor soon to see if it is a side effect or if my hormones are off."

For Birth Control "I got on Skyla when I was 18 after I had a miscarriage back in December of 2015. Insertion hurt like crazy, as if you were having period cramps that would make you want to double over in pain and go to the hospital. After having it inserted, I started gaining weight, I was constantly depressed, I would want to eat more, periods would last for two weeks at one time minimal. It felt like I was on a constant period with all these mood swings. It's now August of 2016, and the pain is ten times worse, I go to the hospital about the situation and they tell me I'm a month pregnant. I do not recommend Skyla to anybody."

For Birth Control "Super painful when I got it inserted. Almost fainted. Cramps continued and continued on and off for the LONGEST. I've been with it for almost a year now, and I'm still getting the constant cramping. Not to mention the constant spotting/bleeding for the first 4-6 months was horrible as well. It was told to me that my periods were gonna be lighter and cramps lighter as well. But I experienced the complete opposite. I did gain weight as well. I don't recommend this to anyone. Literally."

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla placed in March 2015 - I'm 21 and never had kids. The insertion was terribly painful, and I stayed in pain for about 3 or 4 days. I've bled/spotted for most days out of the month since I got it put in. I've gained a lot of weight with this IUD, and my acne has gotten a lot worse. I went to my doctor about my bleeding, and after looking at it, he said that everything was fine and there was nothing that he could do to stop the bleeding/spotting, and I would have to deal with it until it went away on its own. I would get this removed early, but because of how painful it was to get it inserted, I'm terrified that it's going to hurt just as bad. As far as keeping me from getting pregnant, it's 100% effective. I wouldn't recommend."

For Birth Control "I've had it for a year and three months, and it was alright up until I couldn't feel the string anymore, and now I'm having pregnancy symptoms. It was very painful during insertion. I will be getting it taken out due to pregnancy. But it was a good birth control until now."

For Birth Control "Okay, so I read a shit ton of horror stories and was terrified. DO NOT BE. It only felt like a cramp. The worst part was the first one they put in was a defective IUD, but the second one was fine. No pain, no nothing."

For Birth Control "I'm going to college in a week and thought Skyla would be easier than keeping up with the pills. I got it inserted yesterday, about a month before my period, so my cervix wasn't open at all. I'm not going to lie, it was the worst pain I've ever felt. Even the 30 minutes after it, when I felt sick, like I was going to faint and was sweating, was horrible. I had constant killer cramps for the rest of the day, but today they have settled down and they aren't so bad. Overall, the insertion was unbearable, but I'm definitely glad that I got it. Honestly, we're women and we're strong enough to get through anything, so don't let this post throw you off. Everyone's body is different and we all react differently."

For Birth Control "Getting this IUD inserted was the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was screaming so loudly at the doctor's office the entire time. I almost threw up from the pain. Three days later, I started bleeding, and it hasn't stopped for 25 days. I'm already anemic, so this is really worrying me. I've been very lightheaded, plus I'm having terrible cramps. I very rarely ever had period cramps before, and now they are unbearable. I have to lean against the wall or sit down, the pain is so bad. Plus, it's making me feel that I'm not in control of my emotions. I've been moody, and my anxiety has gotten worse. Plus, my acne is getting so bad since I got this IUD. My libido has also decreased, and sex is painful. My boyfriend is a doctor, so he assured me it was safe, but he was wrong. I'm so upset I got this instead of continuing to take the pill. I would NOT recommend getting this IUD. I really want it removed. I'd rather have a baby than deal with these symptoms for a full 6 months!"

For Birth Control "The insertion of it was so painful I was shaking, sweating, and nauseous. I stood up, whitewashed face, totally pale and about to vomit/pass out. Prior to this, my doctor gave me three 'extra-strength ibuprofen.' It wasn't nearly enough, I wanted to die. After one month of solid period bleeding, writhing around in pain in the fetal position, tears streaming down my face from excruciating pain, my mother took me to the hospital. They did an ultrasound to make sure the IUD was in its proper place and not stabbing through my uterine walls. Surprise! My body was having contractions trying to push out the IUD. I had the IUD removed the next day. It took two doses of morphine to get the pain to dull out. Horrible, horrible experience."

For Birth Control "I was 21 years old when I got my first Skyla and 24 for my second. I was the first woman in my OB-GYN to get it when it first came out. It was so new, my insurance company didn't cover it because there was not a billable code for Skyla. Both insertions did hurt, and I was tender for a couple of days after. Almost like period pain. Once the cramping from insertion was over, I didn't have any side effects or problems. Had the first one removed 3 years later. The NP had problems finding it and had to recruit a DR to come in. He, of course, found it right away. The first removal was worse, but I believe it was because I was so tense from the NP 'digging' for about 15 minutes. The second removal was a breeze. I would definitely recommend this IUD."

For Birth Control "I have been on Skyla for 7 months. I have a very high pain tolerance, covered in tattoos and piercings, but insertion was one of the most painful things I've ever felt. I cried in my car afterward. I stayed in constant pain for about 3 days. That constant pain turned into pain for about 3 hours a day. When that went on for several months, I went back to my doctor. I told her I had sharp pains in my uterus that seemed to come and go at random intervals. She gave me an ultrasound, took blood and urine, told me I was fine, and that I just needed to exercise to help the IUD acclimate. I walk now for 20 minutes a day and do other low-impact workouts, the pain is less, but I am in pain from it at least one day a week since starting to work out. I fear it's endometriosis or an ovarian cyst, but my doctor is pretty set on my weight being a factor, so I have to try and go find a second opinion in my network. Overall, no, I haven't gotten pregnant, but the trade-off for me is fear and pain."
